Things I noticed while watching High and Low the Worst X again

I was watching High and Low The Worst X while I was on lunch break and then had more realizations and wanted to write about them lol

These are probably nothing new and someone else probably already noticed these but I wanted to make a post about them sooooo

I’ve watched the movie so many times now idk why I just realized the weight of the three scenes I’m about to talk about. But also I feel like I notice something new every time I watch the movies so I'm gonna cut myself some slack.

Amagai being the only character in the movie who genuinely doesn’t have a sense of friendship/comradery with anyone else.

The first time we see the 3 schools alliance meeting is the opening of the movie, and I remember when I first watched the movie I was like "well damn this looks like a solid ass team" only to find out later that they were in fact not really a team lol 😂 but anywaysss

Watching the movie this time I just realized what Fujin says to Amagai in the first scene in the restaurant where the 3 schools are holding their meetings.

Reiji is first to jump up and say "Let's get this brawl started," and Ghandi jumps in telling Amamgai that their troupes and weapons are ready. Shoji laughs and says that weapons are typical Kamasaka behavior which prompts them to jump at him and Fujin, Raijin, and the other Ebara guys jump straight to his defense while Shoji continues sitting. Amagai tells them to "get us more" while tossing the money bundles in their direction.

Every single fuckin character in this scene's facial expressions have me dying because the disbelief on their faces😂

Shoji looking at Amagai like he's full of shit.

Fujin, Raijin, and Ghandi are looking at him like "wtf?"

The background characters are looking at him in disbelief also like I was WHEEZING when I realized this. Back to the characters who are the main focus of this specific camera frame though, Ghandi and Fujin.

Both characters turn to Amagai with the BIGGEST look of disbelief on their faces and Fujin says "You don't trust we can do it huh?"

To which Amagai says "What's the use in trusting you guys?" and goes on a spiel about how being powerful means you trust no one and not even giving them a slight chance. He also goes on to say that being powerful means bringing everyone else down to their knees and tells the other 3 schools "Just shut up and stick with me. I'll show you what it's like to be at the top." Ryo's face when he says this is a whole other conversation for another day.

I'M SORRY BUT THE LOOKS REIJI AND SHOJI GIVE HIM AFTER HIS LITTLE SPIEL HAD ME ROLLING🤣 Like both characters gave him the most judgmental expression and then you got Shoji over here looking away and rolling his eyes PUH-LEASE I AM DEAD🤣

Aside from all of this being extremely funny to me, this plays into my point from above. Yes, all these looks are super funny but it really shows how as "bad" as the other guys are they still run in the same way that Oya and the other S.W.O.R.D gangs do, through friendship and comradery.

Fujin asked "You don't trust we can do it huh?" because Ebara most likely runs on comradery as well. You don't pay someone to do shit for you, they just know to trust each other to get it done. This is a concept that Amagai does not and can not understand because he's been conditioned to believe that the people around him are not worthy of trust or friendship due to his status, they just work for him. As long as he throws money at their feet, they'll do what he wants.

That's like kind of sad actually, the fact that the other "antagonists" of the film still know friendship and he doesn't... I still hate his guts though. We love Ryoki but we don't love his character Amagai.

The way Shoji vs Tsukasa asks Suzaki why he’s working for Amagai

I think everyone can agree that within that 3 school alliance, Shoji Sameoka was the only character with working brain cells (full offense to all the other characters lol no one else in that room had critical thinking skills I swear). From the first meeting we see, the audience can already tell Shoji is the only character who has doubts about this alliance but also questions it; while everyone else has doubts but proceed to just follow Amagai's orders. This eventually leads to Shoji being the one to suggest that Ebara drop out of the alliance because he thinks it’s stupid which then leads to him agreeing to Todoroki’s terms of dropping out of the alliance if Todoroki wins against Fujin and Raijin. I feel like Shoji as a person judges the other characters based on what he knows/hears about them.

We see this when he confronts Suzaki. Shoji asks Suzaki why he would come to Senomon and work under Amagai when he was the one running Nami High. Suzaki tells him to mind his own business. Shoji is asking Suzaki from a place of strength. Based on the dialogue, it seems like Shoji knew Suzaki and Amagai’s reputations before this alliance. I deduce this down to Shoji knowing that Suzaki was the strongest at Nami High and knowing that Amagai isn’t actually physically strong compared to the other characters, he just likes to cause trouble and make others work for him. People fear Amagai not for his strength or skills as a fighter, but simply because he has the money and status to be at the “top”.

This brings me to believe that Shoji was asking why someone as strong as Suzaki would even work under Amagai who is clearly not a match for him strength wise. It seems like Shoji is asking Suzaki why he would be scared of Amagai’s money and work under him when Suzaki is clearly stronger. I think this is because the Ebara guys ranks are based on their strength/who is the strongest (I make this assumption from the fact that Fujin and Raijin are straight up gym bros lol) so Shoji can’t understand why Suzaki is working under someone clearly weaker than him.

Tsukasa’s question is the same….. but also different.

Tsukasa strikes me as someone who really gets to know someone personally to the best of his abilities before he makes his own judgment on them. We see this with Rao in the movie. Tsukasa could’ve taken everyone’s word for it and been like “oh Rao is a big mean monster” but he takes it upon himself to find out who Rao actually is through Mercy. This is how he finds out Rao isn’t actually all that bad like the stories suggests and that Rao fights for good reason (for his siblings). This trait about Tsukasa is why he asks Suzaki why he fights for Amagai but is also why he’s the only one who is able to understand why Suzaki fights for Amagai without a direct answer.

When Tsukasa asks Suzaki why he works for Amagai, he says “why do you work for a guy like him? Does he has some kind of dirt on you?” and Suzaki just keeps quiet. This brings me to believe that Suzaki probably had a reputation for being the strongest at Nani High but also fought people within reason, he didn’t flaunt his strength just because he felt like it.

Tsukasa asked him based off the kind of person he is and not his strength. I'm assuming Ryo fought people within reason and not so much for fun or to assert his dominance over others with his strength, so him working under someone who has as shitty of a personality as Amagai probably threw Tsukasa off a bit.

He is also however able to tell that there is a friendship there even if it isn't great. At the end when Yuken and Todoroki ask why Ryo would work for someone like Amagai, Tsukasa says it's because he means more to Ryo than that. Alluding to the fact that Ryo is doing stuff for Amagai because he sees him as a friend even if everyone else doesn't.

Okay, I'm done now😂 this wasn't as deep as my other analysis because it's not super deep with comparisons or anything like that it was just stuff I noticed while watching the movie again.

 “Oh come on! It’s just gonna be a kameo. They’ll be in and out, one day.”, Johnny explained.

 “Kakkō is a warrior, not an actor, Cage.”

 Speaking of, Kakkō popped from the corner with the rest of the Earthrealm crew. They had come to the Wu Shi Academy to take care of some errands.

 “Everything okay?”, they asked.

 Hanzo turned to the group, “Yes, everything is fine. I am just doing damage control.”

 Johnny looked both offended and surprised at that statement.

 “I just asked you for kameos, my guy!”

 “What are kameos?”, Kakkō asked Kenshi.

 “It’s a reference in the form of a person on screen.”

 “Oooh. Why do you want kameos?”

 “Is it for the Mortal Kombat movie?”, Kung Lao asked excitedly.

 Johnny smiled at that, “Yep! I was wondering if you guys had any free time. Would save us from hours of trying to find lookalikes.”

 Before Hanzo could repeat his previous statement, Kakkō asked more questions.

 “Will it take long?”

 “Nope. You guys will be in and out within a day.”

 “Deal!”, Kung Lao said excitedly, much to Raiden’s chagrin.

 “I...don’t know.”, Kakkō said, “Don’t we have work to do?”

 Raiden nodded, “I have to agree with Kakkō. We are needed here.”

 “Come on Raiden! The monks can be on their own for one day.”

 “Are you guys talking about movies?”, Fujin chimed in.

 Raiden sometimes hated how his sister’s and his best friend’s chaotic energies wold match at the worst times possible.

 “I mean..do we just have to stand there or?”

 “Trust me, it will be very simple.”

 “Kakkō is not going.”

 “Da-Master Hasashi! Sorry, my bad-uh, I mean, if it’s only for a day..”

 “A lot can happen in one day. We actually have work to do here.”, Hanzo responded.

 “We’ll be out before you realise, Scorpion.”, Kung Lao said, “Besides, I think you guys can manage without us for one day.”

 “Bu-”

 Kung Lao placed Kakkō in front of him, their big eyes staring right into his soul.

 Hanzo rolled his non-existent pupils and gestured at Johnny, “Fine.”

 “Yes!”, Kung Lao exclaimed.

 “Can I come too?”, Fujin asked.

 “For sure! You can be with us on set!”

 “I’m going to stay here.”, Raiden said, earning a disappointed noise from his sister.

 “Oh come on!”, Fujin said, “We rarely go out anymore. Pleeeeeeeeeeease?”

 “No no no! Don’t you give me that look!”

 Hanzo let out a short laugh and looked at Kakkō, “Looks familiar?”, he asked.

 “Oh shut up.”, they said, playfully punching his arm.

 Eventually, Raiden gave in.

 “Fine. This better be good.”

 For the most part, it was both good and bad. The set was big, and crouded with equipment. Kakkō had to restrain themselves from shapeshifting and freaking everyone out, Kung Lao got compliments on his hat, but told they’d have to replace it for a replica because the blades could hurt the actors on set, and Fujin enjoyed talking with the makeup artists there.

 “Kakkō, we fucked up.”, Raiden whispered.

 “I know.”, Kakkō responded.

So! FFVIII! Finished it yesterday, loved most of the last stretch! And it totally comes appart the second you think about it too hard!

First what I liked:

Squall and Rinoa, obviously. Their dynamic and respective growths mirroring each other. One who shuts off the world and one who forces herself to seem like this dizzy social butterfly, both because they are terrified of being hated. Their friendship very organically evolve into a romance and the best scenes in the game like the space rescue are always between these two.

Quistis was also the teammate I felt got to do the most. Started off as a mentor, before realizing the mantle of leader was not for her and learning to put her full trust into something other than her instincts. She also had the emotional intelligence to dodge a love triangle when she felt that shit arrive lmao.

The game is also full of really cool setpieces in general. The space rescue, the Gardens themselves, the Lunatic Pandora... And of course, Ultimecia's castle! I absolutely loved the whole dream sequence at the end, how it communicated without words on all of Squall's fears and how Rinoa became the reason he learned to enjoy his life. How he clung to her image like a lifeline even if the time distortion + GF poisoning tried to take it away from him (as it did with Ultimecia if you subscribe to the U=R theory). Like god damn, this was strong stuff.

Speaking of! I'm actually shocked Ultimecia being Rinoa is just a fan theory Square went out of their way to debunk because it seemed so obvious to me from the get go and I wasn't even aware of the theory until I looked into it. I find it weird they decided to just say no to the whole thing instead of keeping it ambiguous, as the game does, because thematically, this makes it a really powerful story, and Ultimecia a much more sympathetic baddie. Like damn, you can do so much with Griever being all she has left of her knight, while her refusal to let go of it twisting her memories to the point she can no longer recognize him when he comes to her from the past, as she wanted. Respectfully gonna kill the author on this one.

Now for the less good stuff... The orphanage plot twist, obviously. Doctor Odine's whole deal. The Norg stuff. I imagine the fact this plot is held together by duct tape is like, the popular opinion at this point. The best parts of this game kind of mostly work in a vacuum.

Also, well... Zell, Irvine and Selphie don't really have any arc to speak of as far as I can tell. Which is a bit disappointing, compared to VII, I wish they all got to do a lot more. They are still my babies but I really didn't care for them as much as I did the other three, and that Is a problem in a seried that lives or die by how much you engage with its characters.

Oh and bro, Seifer. I jokingly compared him to Draco Malfoy and just like Draco they totally half assed his part in the plot. He had strong momentum as a rival character in Disc 1, but the fact Rinoa stops having feeling for him the second he does his heel turn, and that he just wanted to be Ultimecia's knight, regardless of whether it was Edea or Rinoa, TWO WOMEN HE LOVED, is completely ridiculous. He also got a total anticlimax with the most heavy-handed Gilgamesh cameo, and then Fujin and Raijin (the best part of this stupid plot thread) just redeem him off screen where he goes back to Balamb and never gets any comeuppance for actively trying to destroy the world, like, what the hell even was that.

Oh yeah also the gameplay system is jank and I only started having fun with it when I broke it.

That about sums up my thoughts. I'm really happy of my experience with this game, and to finally be done with the Playstation era!~

My X replay is next, and then I'll probably hop straight onto XV.

Seifer and Quistis in Act 3: Chapter 9, Part 2

This part of the chapter started with everyone continuing on in Ultimecia's castle. They decided to divide the team into 2 forces, one in charge of finding the lost memory fragments, and one in charge of finding and defeating Ultimecia. Seifer volunteered to find the memory fragments, bringing along Raijin, Fujin, Laguna and Kuja saying that he owes them a debt (he says this again later during the final fight with Ultimecia). Squall leads the other team.

Trouble finds Squall however when Ultimecia confronted Rinoa when she was alone, wanting to steal her powers as a sorceress. Squall managed to save Rinoa in time but in result, Ultimecia warped Squall to a different place with the purpose of isolating him from the others to defeat him. Coincidentally, Seifer's team was in the same area and managed to rescue Squall from his predicament. Then, they all decided to go back to the others as defeating Ultimecia would be their top priority considering the others are in danger.

Meanwhile, Rinoa was left to be in charge of the other team. She was determined and put on a brave face while she led everyone on their journey to find Squall. However, she faltered little by little because she was getting very worried about Squall. The others were afraid and anxious about what's to come due to their lost memories. They were also worried that Rinoa would think that they were all a burden because of the holes in their memories.

Then, Luna came to thank them for finding her memories and convinced them that they only felt that way because they were thrust into a new place with new challenges. She also convinced that in time, they will eventually see at the same level again because they care about and have known each other for a very long time.

After a little bit more of exploring the castle, they came across several memory fragments. However, before they could claim them for themselves, Ultimecia appeared and challenged them again wanting Rinoa's sorceress powers. Rinoa then confronted Ultimecia with her sorceress powers (shocking everyone else since they don't remember her being a sorceress) and almost lost control of the power herself. With Rinoa weakened, Ultimecia summoned a guard dog to which the others have to defeat. After we defeat the guard dog, Ultimecia ran away with the memory fragments. Luna managed to bring Rinoa back to herself with the help of others. Rinoa then passed out from exerting herself.

Selphie then ran to find help and came across Squall and Seifer's team. They rushed back and listened to what happened in their absence from Quistis.

Notice when Seifer was shocked when he heard from Quistis that Rinoa is a sorceress (he lost his memories too and doesn't remember this fact), Quistis assured him with a nod while the others continued on with their conversation. I think it was just adorable. There's their silent camaraderie again in this game that I absolutely loved 😗

Also notice that when Seifer picked a fight with Squall so that he would get his act straight and stop blaming himself and to stop others from blaming themselves since they're going nowhere with this, he really stopped fighting with Squall when Quistis said to stop and that it isn't the time for it. Even when Laguna and Kuja were egging them on to settle any doubts once and for all. He also really saved the fight for later after defeating Ultimecia. I know that he probably started that fight just to set Squall straight and never intended to fight him for real (or maybe he does) but I love the sentiment that he stopped when Quistis said to stop regardless 🤣

It was just very wholesome when Squall asked for Seifer's help and to come with them saying that they need him. I also loved to see the usual orphanage gang dynamics when Zell said they don't need his help and Seifer's just like shut up chicken-wuss, the adults are talking. It's just a very classic orphanage gang setting 🤣

Seifer also seemed proud and happy to be needed and didn't hesitate at all to help them. It just made me proud too that he has come this far in his redemption arc 🥺 The crossing of gunblades were symbolic as it was what the banner was based on. Not gonna lie though, I was actually disappointed that it didn't involve them picking sides like what the banner suggested (y'know with Quistis being on Seifer's Hyperion and all). I was also expecting more elaborate interactions between Seifer and Quistis but I guess I expected too much and clowned myself. Should have known that would be too good to be true 🤡🤣

This chapter concluded with grand speeches about Love, Friendship and Courage and them fighting Ultimecia.

After defeating Ultimecia, everyone gained their memories back including Seifer and everything returned to normal. I was proud and glad to see that Seifer only has plans for new dreams ahead and that he would not abandon his friends again.

In conclusion, this chapter was such a great chapter because they really focused on Seifer's redemption. We could also see more of Seifer's interactions with the other characters that we could barely see in game.

Speaking about Seifer's interactions with other characters, I was surprised to see that he was pretty indifferent to Rinoa for someone he used to date, since he didn't hesitate to suggest Rinoa be bait for Ultimecia and how he downplayed the fact that Rinoa was down by saying that an ally was down and that it was no big deal. He didn't seem to have any resentment too towards Squall for being with Rinoa. In fact he seemed pretty happy that Squall is with her, considering that he was the one who pushed Squall to his senses so that Squall could go help Rinoa and defeat Ultimecia. It also reminded me of when Quistis was the one who pushed Squall to help Rinoa when she was in trouble in the main installment. It's like they're the matchmakers for Squall and Rinoa. I honestly think it's better this way and that they don't bring up any of that love triangle business which was one of the reason I left the FF7 fandom (still am team Cloti though 😉). Love triangles can just be very tiring at times and I'm glad FF8 didn't go down this route.

For Seifer and Quistis, I could see that they will always be linked by fate regardless wherever they're at be it in the main timeline or in Opera Omnia. Quistis has always had Seifer on her mind and cares about him a lot while Seifer has always wanted to impress her and holds her in high regards. Even as far as wanting to be her favourite. Their dynamics within the orphanage gang will always be of the eldest of the team. They just have this responsible aura where they have to take care of the others whenever they falter. They also seem like that they would rely on each other for this and for a lot of things. They just seem to have this wordless partnership when it comes to that. Even their skills in Opera Omnia mirror each other's a lot. I think it just opens them to many possibilities. Even though showing them outright will never happen and that they would have to resolve their personal issues first, I just think that they have interesting future potential. I look forward to seeing more of Seifer and Quistis interactions in Opera Omnia and perhaps in a distant future, in a remake or new installment of FF8 🤡😉

Always good to see how well she knows him and how she has always had faith in him. I'm happy that seeing him succeed now would be something Quistis would be able to see 😉

Babyspace Regressor Fujin Who Needs Padding  Hcs

☁️ While Fujin mostly regresses to a bigger kid headspace, even Gods need baby days (a lot of baby days, let's be honest)

☁️ Especially Gods with Brothers always keeping them in check, making sure they're doing their ‘Godly Duties’ instead of being able to just dance in a flower field 🙄

☁️ Fujin first baby regressed around Raiden, so it wasn’t the scariest thing in the world, because Raiden has Babyspace watching experience, but it was a little scary being small like that for the first time

☁️ But he does really like baby regressing!! Especially after a really long, hard day of whatever duties he had to fulfill :(

☁️ Fujin found out about padding when Liu Kang started using it!

☁️ He could see how embarrassed and upset Liu was over it, so he made it his mission to do some research on his own to help him!!

☁️ He tried, key word is tried, to use padding by himself, secretly, but Raiden apparently knows everyone's business, for some reason 🙄 (also Fujin was acting suspicious and he wanted to make sure his brother was okay)

Horrible,i hate dark raiden(always have,sorry to me its a cop out and a cheap way of writing his darker traits. I hate when a character has to become "evil" to show dark traits. Or worse have an external factor to contribute to said darkness,ugh). I hate hate how raiden sounds. No offense to Richard epcar fans but he doesn't sound like raiden to me. He just sounds like Joseph joestar. (I love him but not for this character. Not rai). I hate how he basically had to do a dbz fusion dance with liu kang to defeat a mediocre villain. Which btw was easier to beat with shang tsung than liu kang. And liu is supposed to be easy in every mk game ive played. Which for the past how many years i have never had any problems playing liu kang,like at all. Legit shang tsung is so damn easy to play.

Raiden is relatively easy and so is kung lao. Sindel is embarrassingly easy to play,oof.

But yeah. Raiden's character consulting every five damn seconds with the elder gods is annoying af. The real raiden wouldn't have a need to unless and absolute crisis. But even then he has faith in his warriors. Thats the difference between the real og raiden,and legit any other raiden before mk9(minus crappy dark raiden,sorry not sorry) and mk11 raiden.

Plus i hate how unemotional they make raiden. That's not how he's supposed to be. In fact. That's quite the opposite of how he is.

Its like NRS is trying to make raidens character unlikable so we should like his younger brother more when thats horrible. Because raiden n fujin go hand n hand and never separated.

Fujin is his equal and brother. And should be treated as such. But he isn't. The only difference between them is one does things in an introverted way and the other extroverted. One is the carefree young bro and the other protective and caring older bro. Thats legit it! Its not the fucking hard to comprehend.

Yet NRS,completely forgot that. And shat on the ogs work and lore.

But then again they wanna be the next hot thing to the *shivers* mcu. Like its disturbing.

Like also not to mention,there was more gameplay in aftermath than the main story. I felt like i was watching a movie instead of playing an actual game.

That's annoying af. Like i absolutely about fell asleep while playing. That's how annoying it was.

Aftermath is clearly the stronger of the two archs. And genuinely ngl. Solely because of shang tsung,fujin and nightwolf. Especially shang tsung. Come fucking on its cary hiroyuki tagawa ffs! How can you not!?

But also fujin and nightwolfs contribution to that arch was amazing too.

Like fr. I wish the whole game was about those three.

It would be way fucking better than whatever crap they were trying to sell before shang came back.

Shang tsung single handedly made mortal kombat interesting.

To get rid of him is not good. But its also bad when this one asshole(i say that lovingly shang darling) is your only one thing keeping you afloat story wise.

How bad does your games storyline gotta be when the dlc og villain is the best thing about your game? Shang tsung legit was the saving grace of mk11.

If asked, he would deny that the situation was calm and relaxed, for Seifer could hardly ever really shake the tension that the anticipation of something catching on a hook brought with it. Raijin had tried to teach him the skill of patience and quiet, but much like Fujin, the tall blond wasn’t really cut out for it. It had taken him a whole month to suppress any need for fumbling around, tapping his foot in impatience or otherwise disturb the quiet that was inevitably needed if one wanted to catch something. In the end, however, he appreciated his old friend having taken the time with him, as much as the ex-knight hated to be surrounded by quiet, especially after the war and the various fallouts it had for him, it was simultaneously something strangely therapeutic. Facing his weaknesses or something to that effect. Even with their contact almost died out nowadays aside from ocassional letters or messages on phone, the fishing-thing had stuck with Seifer. It was something he needed to be in the mood for, something that afforded him to be in the right headspace (otherwise thoughts would circle and wander, ending him up in a maelstrom of memories he’d rather not face out in the open where people could see the tremors coming with it). Hearing footsteps approach, the blond had learned to usually ignore them, and most of the time people would not really interrupt him when he was sitting in his usual place, he still caught the other from the corner of his eye - it was simply impossible for him to not sense the presence of black leather and white fur along with that stare that would bore into him when Squall thought he wasn’t watching. One had idly lifted, waving the brunet closer, without really sparing him a close look as he kept his focus on the lure in the water, listening to the rustling of clothes as his former rival came closer, letting himself finally sink down close. The minutes kept passing in a silence that just didn’t seem right between the two of them, but Seifer privately had already decided to rebel against his instincts when it came to the brunet and use what was expected of him against the other. Admittedly, it took a lot of effort to even keep his face straight, but he managed to, almost appearing disinterested in what he was doing or that the other was sitting in what actuall should feel comfortable for him. Wasn’t it Squall who always appreciated silence over noise? The atmosphere in Madam Bo’s restaurant was lively as always, Raiden and Kung Lao enjoying themselves. Even Fujin was here, which was always great.

 “How have you been? I haven’t seen you back in Fengjian for a long time.”, Fujin said, refering to Kung Lao and her brother.

 Raiden scratched the back of his head, trying to not divulge anything about their secret journey. Fujin was going to be tested soon, after all.

 “Me and Kung Lao have been busy. This mission has been helping a lot of people.”

 Kung Lao nodded as he continued to eat his dumplings, “Seeing and exploring places outside the village have been great. We should take you with us sometime.”

 Raiden tried to gesture to him to shut down the idea, but Fujin replied excitedly and positively. Raiden sighed. He really hoped that nothing too crucial would be found out before Fujin was meant to be tested, otherwise the test would not be true.

 “By the way.”, Fujin asked, “Who are they?”

 She pointed at Kakkō, who was looking at the food like a baby learning to speak for the first time. Raiden also noticed they weren’t wearing their Shirai Ryu uniform.

 “Um, I don’t know....?”

 “Hi.”, Kakkō waved.

 “Did you follow us all the way here?”

 “Hey, Kung Lao said Madam Bo’s food was the best I’ll ever eat.”

 Raiden looked at Kung Lao with a scolding look, to which Kung Lao lifted his arms up.

 “I didn’t tell them to follow us!”, he tried to defend.

 This resulted in a back and forth with Raiden. Fujin used the distraction to scoot closer to Kakkō.

 “Soo, what’s your name?”

 “Oh. I’m Kakkō, nice to meet you.”, they said as they extended a hand for a handshake, which Fujin returned.

 “Nice to meet you! I’m Fujin.”

 “Raiden’s sister, I know. He talks about you a lot.”

 “Aw, he does miss me!”

 “Guys, I’m right here.”

 Kakkō scanned the table for more food, and settled on some odd-looking noodles. They reached out a hand to grab the bowl and try the food but Raiden stopped them just as they were about to put the noodles in their mouth.

 “I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”, he said, to which Kakkō raised an eyebrow.

 “Why?”, they asked.

 “Ooh, those are Madam Bo’s spicier noodles.”, Fujin said, “I have no idea how Kung Lao can handle them.”

 The man in question shrugged smugly, “Cause I’m that awesome.”

 Raiden rolled his eyes at the remark, but Kakkō only shrugged.

 “Oh come on, it’s just hot food. What’s the worse that can happen?”, they said, shoving a mouthfull of the dark noodles in their mouth. They slurped them, staining their mouth with sauce in the process, chewed and swallowed.

 They held the bowl for some time, but then started to visibly shake and their mouth started to quiver. Fujin looked at them in worry.

 “Are....you okay?”

 Kakkō nodded quickly and with a closed mouth, but sweat started to creep in.

 “Should I get you milk? You don’t look okay.”

 “Huuu shh fhhshhh......”

 Fujin could have sworn Kakkō started to get shorter, which was slightly confirmed when she got up to go and get the milk. Then, right before her eyes, the person in front of her started to turn into putty, which was really disturbing.

 “Get the milk! Get the milk!”, Raiden shouted as he got up to run into the kitchen.

 “Dammit Kakkō!” 

 “W-What is going on?!”, Fujin asked in confusion and panic.

 “We’ll explain later!”, Raiden said as the two fethched the milk from the kitchen in a rush, passing by a confused Madam Bo.

 The shapeshifter calmed down once they had gotten the milk, their shape becoming more human again as they slumped onto the table. They groaned in despair as Raiden scolded them.

 “I told you, you couldn’t handle it.”

 “Okay, what is going on?”, Fujin asked in a demanding tone.

 “Kakkō is a shapeshifter.”, Kung Lao explained, “That apperently doesn’t like spicy food.”

 It took Fujin some time to take it in. So, Raiden and Kung Lao have been making friends with actual cryptids? Raiden must have noticed her unease, because he turned to her to speak assurances.

 “Don’t worry, Kakkō wouldn’t hurt a fly.”, he explained as he rubbed their back.

 For the most part, at least from the first impressions, Fujin could see that Kakkō meant no harm. But it was still hard to not be cautious. Who wouldn’t be once they discovered shapeshifters existed. She walked over to Raiden.

 “Is that what you’ve been doing outside Fengjian?”

 “That is.....a story for another time.”, Raiden said.

 “Brother, you ought to have faith in me. You will have to tell me at some point and you know it.”

 “I do, Fujin. Just..now is not the time.”

 Fujin sighed, “Right. Of course.”
