Your eyes slow flutter open blinking afew times from the sunlight that was booming right into your eyes. You look at your clock checking the time ‘8.40am’ you still have quite sometime before work starts looking at your side you see hoodie remembering what happened last night your face wet hot standing up you exited your room and proceed into the bathroom to shower where it helps you refresh your memory.
You slip on your work dress and grabbed your backpack slinking it on your right shoulder letting the other side of the bad strap stay hanging around in the air stepping out of your house you twist your key and pull it out pushing the door handle down to make sure you lock it securely you made your way down the streets greeting the familiar faces of your neighbours you turn to the right into the alley using this short-cut you knew for years the big hospital building can already be seen.
“Hey Y/N!! Morning sweetheart” you place your bag down looking up to meet your cheerful colleague “morning girly cheerful as ever huh” you gave her smile before settling down on your chair “well...have you heard lisa new solo music? I cant explain how happy i am, my bias finally did her own solo” she screech, making you chuckle at her obsession over blackpink “well ye it sure was lit, im still waiting for jisoo to sing her own solo too” you pout seeing your computer has loaded in you to check your gmail and schedules for today “hey jas you got a appointment with me later” you look to your left seeing her swing her chair to face you dramatically “really when oh my god!” she whispered-scream, you sigh asking her to see the schedules you noted down for both you and her as shes always very forgetful hearing your phone chime you unlock your phone to read the text you just received

°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
You were reading the last few words kiri texted you when your phone slipped out of your hand “dam shawty guess you got yourself a boyfriend” you snatched the phone from jasmyne hands offing your phone “hes taken” you place your phone on the table pushing her away from your computer screen “mah gawd chill will ye im just saying and you haven't told me when was our appointment” you look at the screen confirming the time “2pm, and don't even think about being late missgurl” she hummed in response sitting back on her sit. You took out one of your patients file from the drawer reading the informations -each word you read you slowly daze off remembering what happened yesterday in the gym you wanted him to kiss you so badly touch you more and just shove you against the mirror and just start pounding hard into- shaking your head you snap out of your thoughts.
7.53PM
"Hey cutie watcha you doing" you blink your eyes snapping out from your daydream for the 100th or more times today you turn to look at jasmyne "hey wassup", "well if you didn't know your boyfriend is here for you already" she chuckled looking out of the door that leads into the staff room "what do you mean" following where her eyes went you saw kiri waiting outside on his phone, remembering that kiri wanted to meet you, pushing your stuff in your bag pack you zip it up grabbing your phone and sprint off "help me off my com thx!" You pushed kiri lightly by the shoulder closing the door behind you, "oh hey you're finally here" you scratch your head in guilt "ye sorry i kinda lost track of time shall we?". Leaving the hospital you hear a familiar voice calling out to you turning to your left you see blonde boy you wave at him in respond. "He wanted to follow after peeking our texts" nodding your head you lead them to your house.
"Dam a cute girl like you walk here everyday? Aren't you scared?" You swing your body alittle to face denki "at first it was, but after walking her for like forever nothing happened so ye".
"Make yourself at home ima find our yearbook, you guys want anything to drink?" You place your bag on the sofa sitting on the floor and started ransacking your cupboard seeing tons of book you took them out one by one it felt endless its not that cupboard neither was this checking the last cupboard you open the last cupboard you knew you didn't use, tip-toeing you tried to see what you could and held the books you could take placing it on the ground.
-3rd person view-
Denki watch as you tip-toed to reach for the books in the cupboard, your dress rising up and curving your ass much more he gulped wanting to seeing whats underneath that dress of yours he shifted in much comfortable way on your sofa. Pretending to look at his phone to not make it obvious he suddenly had an idea angling his phone he got nice picture of you reaching up for another pile of books licking his lips as your ass was just so fine (like sheesh that cake of yours is just oou lala) after a few good takes he let his wander "yo denki come here" he jolt up not expecting kiri to suddenly pop up he stood up still staring straight at your ass till it was out of his sight seeing kiri stop in his track to motion denki to look in the room he turn to see a nicely furnished room looking at the bed he realised there were sex toys denki started laughing (dont ask me why i just got a feeling denki will laugh at the dumbest shit)
-back to Y/N POV-
You sneezed at the amount of dust in the cupboard you rubbed it seeing the last pile of book you reach out for it suddenly hearing a loud laugh you tried to look at the boys but the wall was in your way hearing fast footsteps you see denki coming up to you laughing you took the books down placing it on the floor "look what we found" denki gave a smirk showing you picture you slowly felt your face heat up snatching the phone from his hand "you guys were not supposed to see that im so sorry" you mumbled softly pressing the delete button you were about to press confirm when denki snatched the phone back "hey delete it now!" You shouted, face still red "try reach for it than" he held his phone high up in the air making you tip toe to reach it you use his shoulders for support no use, you jumped up brushing your fingers against denkis hands you attempt to jump again to be stop by kiri's voice "look what else i found" the both of you turn to see a black hoodie you immediately knew who's hoodie it was all you could do was just stand there frozen do they know who's hoodie it was? Ofc they do what kind of friend would be dumb not to, will they tell bakugo? Is bakugo going be disgusted? "Oh my what do we have here?" Denki grab the hoodie looking at the white spot on the hoodie " you guys are not going to tell him will you?" You sounded softer your voice filled with fear minutes away from crying. "Course not this can be our secret among us" kiri winked at you chuckling "hey look is our school yearbook" kiri walked past you picking up one of the books your eyes still staring at denki his stupid smirk still on his face you walked up to him snatching the hoddie back "ill be back and DONT touch anything else" you ran into your room and closed your door sliding down the door you crouch down hugging the hoodie you sigh feeling the heavy weight that was on you long gone you close your eyes letting yourself calm down from the intense situation.
"Took you long enough you remember xyrus?" You lean against the kitchen counter not far from the two guys "ye that troublemaker thats obsessed with PewDiePie and thinks hes a rock musician" kiri laughed at you "you still remember that kind of thing huh, you still keep in touch with him?" You shook your head "but i have his IG" you took your phone from your pocket and open IG scrolling through your following list and landing on the username you were looking for you pass your phone to kiri. "Whats with xyrus?" All you get in response was kiri shaking his head 'nothing' you guessed is none of your business. "Thx we got to go now" kiri handed you back your phone and left off "cya nxt time cutie" denki waved at you and closed your apartment door sighing in relief they were all gone. Walking back into your room you grab bakugos hoodie into the nearly full washing machine you poured some divergent and other soap pressing the start you hear the water start pouring inside you chug away the sex toys and went to make dinner.
Sitting down on the couch watching the news you couldn't help but worry over the situation that happen this evening you grab your phone texting bakugo "hey im free after 3 tmr, you?" You sent the message and ate your pasta, 5mins went to 10 to 30 you checked your phone again worried about bakugo ignoring you , they promised not to tell bakugo right why the hell is bakugo ignoring you placing your plate and utensils done you decide to text him again "heyy you there??" Cringing at the thought of sending it you threw your phone back to the side of the sofa you groan standing up to wash the dishes.
You checked the time on your clock that was hanging directly above the television you sigh deciding to end the day off just when you had off your television you jumped at the sudden notification grabbing it you expecting bakugo to reply you read the message it was from your boss reminding you to come in early for the morning surgery you groan replying to the text as storm back into your room through the dark pathway crashing yourself onto your bed you shut your eyes ignoring everything that could disturb you.
"Hello?? Y/N, miss gurl you awake or not" giving huh you look at jasmyne beside you "seriously pass me the goddam tools" you hurriedly grab the box on the metal cart beside you passing it to her you watch as she slowly slice the patient's skin blood slowly started to flow out you helpless watch her and the other doctors continue to cut through the patient's stomach you didn't get an hour sleep last night because your dumbass was still wide awake waiting for bakugos response at the same time worried that he knew about what you did with his hoodie you turn to keep track of the patient heart beat.
"Hey what's wrong with you?" You shake your head taking small bites of the lotus biscuit "we know thats crab come on now tell me whats up girly" she pushed her chair closer to you leaning in ready to hear your story "well..is just this guy i kinda just met him and not going lie hes extremely hot-"
"And you fell for him am i right?" you turn to look at her, her eyes had sparkles or were you just imagining things "er well ye..and i kinda did something bad he probably knew by now" you hit your head on the table resting in that position you ignored the pain that formed on your forehead feeling arms wrapped around you, jasmyne rested her head on your upper back letting her other hand up and down smoothing your back "is fine there are more fishy out there i can help you find them" you shake your head "i only want him you know the feeling where no one matters just the person you like and you only want that person"
"Yea.. i want Jun Yen" sitting up you push her off you "shh i dont need you whining over him this early in the morning" she stood up washing her cup in the basin "you guys are so mean i always listen to your rant and you guys nvr hear mine" walking up to her you place in the basin throwing the biscuit wrapper in the bin you leaned against the table "thats because all you say is Jun yen this Jun Yen that you should really just confess to him you know" she hum in response passing you , your washed cup placing on the table by the side with the others you both walked out talking about the patients health.
After another long ass hour of explaining the conditions of the health risks to the patient you sat on your chair checking your phone you sat up straighter in the chair seeing bakugo message quickly tapping on it to read the message.

You tap your transportation card on the scanner walking into the train it was easy to find a seat lucky for you it was not peak hours yet seeing the reflection opposite you wore the same workout clothes this time remembering to bring a towel and a jacket. After afew stations you alighted at your stop finding your way to club 332 walking down the ceramic stairs you knocking on the door hard afraid the person couldn't hear you over the roaring music the door slightly open you look at the guard remembering the code that denki said was "2802" the door slam into your face you curse at the guy you clearly remembered what denki said grabbing your phone you texted bakugo.
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
Y/N

Y/N
K! No one told me the code so dont blame me!!
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
Knocking on the door you tell the guy the new code this time letting you in, you walk through the crowded room making your way to the  familiar door you knock on it waiting for it to open, it didn't open knocking on it harder this time the door swung open meeting a lime-green eyes "ah you must be bakugos girlfriend, kaachan your girl is here!" He open the door wider for you making your way in the door closed behind you seeing familiar faces "HUH stupid deku who the fuck told i was hers" you look at bakugo not expecting to see what comes after. He was holding a nife filled with blood and the victim was tied on the chair you gasped at the sight “Y/N help me” xyrus screamed in pain you ran up to bakugo trying to take the knife from his hand you just struggled bakugo was too strong“dumbass wth do you think you are doing” he grab both your arms restraining you from doing anything “i should be the one asking wth do you think you are doing!” you spited back struggling to get out of his hold bakugo pushed you lightly but hard enough to make you stumble “tch this what we do if you dont like it fuck off” you look at kiri with dissapointment you helped him find his old classmate and this happened? “Why, why kiri, why are you guys hurting him?”
“We needed answers” you look at him confused “answers?” he sighed “like i said he is the one who hurt me and clearly he was used by the number 1 mafia gang so now we are just gathering answers” you didnt know what to do all you could do was watch while bakugo did dirty things to xyrus. “Im going to ask you again WHERE.ARE.THEY?” silence xyrus didnt respond he just started laughing “never!” this time was deku laughing “really? Why dont you look at your cute family” deku showed his phone to xyrus you couldnt quite see what was it but you could hear kids laughter “please dont hurt my family leave them alone you son of bitch, fucking sociopath!” bakugo punch his in the face”sociopath is not the right the word dont you think”bakugo started to laugh maniacally sending shivers down your spine your eyes follow bakugos hand upwards with a knife, when it was stopped by someone else's hand “calm down we dont need you messing up again and going back to square one” bakugos hand went back down “-ah- if you dont want your family getting hurt maybe you can tell us where.the.fuck.they.are” a voice came in through the phone “boss sniper is ready anytime” the handcuffs connected to xyrus hands and legs with the chair started to make noises as xyrus kept pulling out of the handcuffs like it would eventually fall of easily “no please no ill tell you where they are please” the room went silent waiting for xyrus to continue “they are in Toshima City the new bank that open last year they are there” bakugo nodded pulling a chair over and sat on it you hit your head for thinking such dirty thought of bakugo having his legs spread open in a time like this. “Someone has to approach you right” bakugo swing the knife around playful near xyrus knee “they wouldnt tell me what are their names all i know is the person who approach me has black hair and almost his body was covered in burnt” bakugo hummed flicking his pointy finger at kirishima and then to xyrus, the big shadow that was standing behind you long gone. Kirishima took the knife from bakugos hand and stab xyrus in the same spot where kiri got hurt in that alley he kept stabbing and stabbing till he was satisfied none of this bothered you the only think that bothered was you had just witness a murder and theres no way in hell you are going to tell anyone about this or else that would be you next. “Hey cutie came to visit me?” you look at denki that was still the same cheerful guy that looks like the murder scene did not just happen. “Ouh erm im meeting with bakugo” denki pouted signing “man whats so good about him that i dont” you look at him confused “huh?”. “Come on man leave the girl alone she probably just wants to ruin another of our boss hoodie” sero smirked at you while patting denkis back, you blushed not expecting sero to know “aww look at her cute face when she blush, i can give you my hoodie if you want or... do you want the real thing mi amor” sero lightly brush your cheeks slowly leaning closer to you, “oi hands of her” sero swang backwards by bakugo pushing him away from you, he grabbed your arm dragging you like a pet on a leash “come on lets go, and stupid deku you know what to do right” bakugo didnt even turn to look at deku for an answer.
You awkwardly shift in the passenger seat the silence was so loud after you guys left the club. “Must you guys really kill him” bakugo steer the wheel smoothly looking at you through the rearview mirror but not obvious for you to notice “it was a warning not to mess with us” you look at him angrily “you guys could thought of something else right!” you felt the car jerk forward to a stop bakugo took no time unbuckling his seat belt leaning forward and slam his hand beside you on the window “you got a thing for him or something” you tried pushing him forward shouting back “you dumb or what he has a fucking family, a family do you not realise that katsuki bakugo” bakugo inch forward more you could smell the burnt caramel scent yet again “thats it baby i love it when that cute mouth of yours say my first name” you hesitantly slap his face “you fking bastard im not a fking object for you to call me your baby” he half-heartedly chuckled “oh sorry my bad shld i call you a child since you at like one” your eyes widen at the insult opening your mouth but words couldnt come out “thats what i thought now come on time for us to do some fun i mean...fighting” he playfully threw his hands around and stood out of the car.
You place your sports bag on the ground unzipping the bag to get your water bottle seeing a black hoodie inside you remembered you brought it along to give it back to bakugo drinking the water you place back on the floor grabbing the black hoodie along with you as you made your way back up to ground floor not seeing any sign of bakugo you decide to shout for him no respond you walk up the spiral stairs seeing afew closed rooms except for one thinking bakugo would be inside you made your in. your soul nearly left your body when you hear a growl “oh fuck hey buddy didnt see you there” you see a husky looking at you dangeriously kneeling down you put out your hand for the husky to sniff it slowly walk towards you and sniff your fingers it then slide into your palms resting its head there you smiled patting the husky head “i didnt expect hachi to let in easily to you” you look up seeing bakugo only in sports shorts his tone abs never fail to make you blush “hachi what a cute name” the husky stood wacking its tail excitedly “when did you get…-”
“Its a he, i found him abandoned on the streets” you nod playing with him “are you going to give me that back?” he pointed at the hoodie on your lap “ye here i washed it for you already” you stood up passing the hoodie to him hachi lean onto your leg whining “i think its hungry” you said looking at bakugo hachi whined again using his left paw to tap on your leg “ya,ya letsgo” you guys headed down to the kitchen hachi always by your side you watch as bakugo poured some pet food in a orange bowl with a name on it ‘hachi’ bakugo chuckled “you got some special power or something, the dam dog had never been this clingy to anyone except me” you rub its head lightly “of course not it just has good taste in human” you smiled at bakugo “heh so you think im a good?” you hum “maybe but youre not my type” you giggled as you continue watching hachi eat his meal. “Come on i dont have all day” you leaped behind the broad blonde hair into the basement  “you that busy huh, whatcha gonna do nxt? Kill more-” you stop there remembering what happened this evening “hey! If you cant handle shit like this you dont have to be around us or go back there” you shook your head “come on we have to warm-up” you walk closer to bakugo lazily mimicking his steps. You kept lazily copying the exercises and bakugo had to keep correcting you and holding you in place each time till bakugo just gave up on you “alright we’re done come on” yours eyes went wide like you just woke up from class “huh where are we going?” you ran out of the basement chasing after bakugo “just follow you idiot” hachi came leaping towards you the excitement he gave you since you guys first meant never change “hachi come here”bakugo called out, hachi was still attached to you rubbing its head against your smooth leg “hachi!” he still ignored its owner “hachi your owner is calling you” you said cutely to him, it then listened to you and walked towards bakugo and you watch as he hook the leash around the collar “lets go now” you guys proceed to walk towards the door “fuck wait” he shove the leash into your hands and ran up “where are you going” you shouted seconds later he came back with circle plate? Ouh is actually a frisbee my bad. “Went to get this” he showed you the black frisbee swishing it around like he just won a prize. The park wasnt far from his house the whole walk hachi was the on pulling you and not you both man are strong you know ;) “here you wanna to throw it?” you took the frisbee from his hand “thx here goes nothing ig” you effortlessly threw the frisbee and watch it fly far “oh shoot is too high” bakugo scoff “he got it” not long after hachi caught your attention he ran fast like faster than any other dog you saw and up he goes he a little twirl and caught it that impressed you “good job hachi!” you praised hachi and pat his head “my turn” he took the frisbee from hachi mouth and threw it hard “thats too far and high thats not playing fair”
“You look down on him so much” you shook you hair watching hachi chase the frisbee was like watching a race on who will win first “holy shit” your jaw literally drop at fact that hachi could run and jump high so effortlessly “who my good boy huh” hachi bark at bakugo “thats right your the good boy, now open wide cause i got you your favourite treats” bakugo waved around the dog and threw inside hachi’s mouth. You started laughing at how such a scary mafia man can sound this playful and be playful too “what you never seen a feed their pet?” he asked while still playfully feeding hachi “nah i just find it astonishing to see you like this” this time it was him to shake his head “you just dont know me” you nod your head as he threw the frisbee again.
“Wowww the sunset is so pretty” you rub hachi head that was sitting on your head “ye it sure is pretty aint it hachi” hachi barked in response licking your hands “i think he meant by me” you giggled as you continue looking at setting sun “huh thats got to be bull shit”
“What did the bull even do to get criticise about its shit”
“No idea” he lay down flat on the grass patch and covered his back head with both hands
“Hey, thx for this it really help me with ‘that’” you turn to look at him and smiled earning a tsk from him. The sun finally settled down making the town dark only the street lights helping it to lit up.

Old School X is a project interviewing X-Files fanfic authors who were posting fic during the original run of the show. New interviews are posted every Tuesday.
Interview with Mary Ruth Keller
Mary Ruth Keller has 42 stories at Gossamer, plus her stories are at AO3. She's written a number of short standalone stories, but she's thought through the X-Files mythology and written about it probably as much as anybody ever has. So if you want to dive into the mythology and all its drama, you need to go read her mythology fics ASAP. (But read this long, interesting interview first!) Big thanks to Mary Ruth for doing this interview.
Does it surprise you that people are still interested in reading your X-Files fanfics and others that were posted during the original run of the show (1993-2002)?
Quite frankly, yes. The Kuxan Sum Cycle branches off the actual series following the Third Season episode Syzygy. I took the myth-arc as it stood at that time, post Nisei-731, and the agents in mid-Rift. Although I didn’t quite realize it when I started out, I was most interested in moving the myth-arc forward in a continuously unfurling narrative, one where Scully and Mulder became an effective investigative team who support each other as partners and friends again. After I started writing in my little corner of the X-F universe in 1996, there was a lot of stuff on the show that just happened, with no real storytelling logic to it I could fathom, but that seemed to be popular. I stopped writing in 2000 because I was frantically busy at my new job (which consumed far too many twelve-plus-hour workdays and weekends) and because my sister and I were trying to take care of my elderly, increasingly frail, Mother. So, I never expected, when I started writing in 2018 and posting again in 2019 (I reposted all my stories, in order, to AO3 and fanfiction.net, because Chermera would never have made sense without them) for readers to take an interest in myth-arc and character issues that the series writers had simply abandoned to go chase, well, anything else, especially if it made no coherent sense whatsoever. What do you think of when you think about your X-Files fandom experience? What did you take away from it?
The fandom was a lot of fun. There were many interesting, engaging discussions I took part in with other fans of the show, some of whom I am still in touch with.
Social media didn't really exist during the show's original run. How were you most involved with the X-Files online (atxc, message board, email mailing list, etc.)?
All of the above. I spent a lot of time discussing writing and characters with other writers on ATXC, except when I was actively working on my novels. Since I was doing basic research into microwave remote sensing of the Earth while working at the Naval Research Laboratory at the time – yes, I was one of those dreaded Department of Defense scientists the show had a love/hate relationship with – my writing happened at night and on weekends. Novels, especially the longer ones, take me about a year from first words on disk until release, which meant I didn’t have all the time to participate on-line as I would have otherwise. But, I enjoyed chatting with the fellow denizens of the Endies Board, and on the EMXC, Scullyfic, and Je Souhaite mailing lists. I’ve saved some of those posts and conversation threads on my older computers, where it’s fun re-reading them from time to time. What did you take away from your experience with X-Files fic or with the fandom in general?
There were a lot of generous, funny, very intelligent fans involved with X-F back then (not that there aren’t now; there are, of course). I started writing because I wanted to get the myth-arc and the characters back on-track, the long-term story moving forward and the agents again being the smart investigators I loved hanging out with on Friday nights. But, outside of having read a lot of myth, literature, fiction, and non-fiction, I didn’t know enough about the mechanics of writing fiction. Several authors were willing to help out, some explicitly through E-mail conversations, and some from general comments about crafting stories that were posted to ATXC. I had a real problem with how I initially handled dialog, which I had some E-mail guidance on, that was very much appreciated. I also had two quite diligent beta readers, one an on-line fan, and one a real-life friend, both male, who helped me with the direction of the Scully-Mulder half of Anath. I was, at the time, utterly exasperated with how the pair of them had become such complete morons on the series, both totally incapable of investigating anything successfully, which was affecting my writing the characters in that story.   What was it that got you hooked on the X-Files as a show? Ooh, boy. I’d like to say I started watching with the show with the Pilot, but I didn’t, quite. Tom Shales was the Washington Post TV critic at the time the Pilot aired – yes, not only was I a government scientist, I was living in Alexandria, Virginia, in 1992. He was intrigued by the characters and premise and found Duchovny and Anderson engaging while playing their roles. At the time, I was wrapped up trying to work on a PhD while still employed at NRL, so I tucked the review away, waiting until I had Friday nights free to check it out. I’m a great lover of science fiction, so I thought to give the show a try, eventually. [Lilydale note: I found a couple things Tom Shales wrote about The X-Files premiere in 1993: Fall 1993 TV preview article and a “Pilot” episode review.]
The first episode I sat down to watch was the First Season Darkness Falls, where Mulder and Scully get trapped at the logging camp with the Earth Firster, Doug Spinney, the logging executive, Steve Humphries, the Forest Ranger, Larry Moore, and the gooey green bugs. I was amazed by that story. It was as perfect a little piece of science fiction as I have seen on TV (except for one bit toward the end), with an environmental moral to it as well, where all the characters make good and bad choices, and they all suffer or succeed because of them.
What hooked me, really hooked me, were the first/second acts, specifically, Dana Scully’s actions, once they find the desiccated logger in the tree. The investigation is handled logically, in that it’s not the big male agent who goes shinnying up the trunk to look at the evidence while everyone else stands around watching and wailing, “Whatever shall we do!” No, it’s little Dana Scully who takes the ride to the upper branches. This made oodles of sense, in that she was this tiny woman whom two men could lever up that far with a rope, a hand winch, and pulleys. When she gets there, after grimacing (who wouldn’t, considering what she saw), she starts investigating. She does an on-the-spot post-mortem exam, while Mulder makes an ooky male-body-parts joke, but everyone takes her results seriously. I was thrilled. Here was a female character I could really relate to, someone who could hold her own in a difficult situation, unlike most of those on the tube, then or now.
I made a point, over the following summer, of watching as many re-runs as I could, catching up on the episodes and characters. The stories ran to science fiction and horror, which are my preference. Further, although there was an emphasis on the paranormal, several of the first season episodes were written so both Mulder’s wanting-to-believe-but-needing-proof intuitive, emotional approach and Scully’s logical, scientific, justice-oriented viewpoint each got the narrative coherently from initial crime to identifying and apprehending a suspect. It was some spectacular, complex writing, and I was hooked, hopelessly hooked. I discuss this some on my old author web-page, which still exists, courtesy of the Wayback machine), so I won’t belabor it. What got you involved with X-Files fan-fic? The shenanigans within the Third Season, quite honestly. The myth-arc wasn’t moving forward, as it had during the Second Season, which I really couldn’t understand. Carter had given us this bang-up start in the ABC Trilogy with all these new fictional possibilities to explore, but instead, bupkis. The MOTW’s were retreads with no depth or moral/ethical weight to them, except for Darin’s stories. The intelligent agents I had enjoyed spending time with while they pursued their oddball investigations were evaporating before my eyes. Mulder had always been this deeply intuitive character who cared about others and knew he could get it wrong, so needed Scully’s logic in their investigations, even if he didn’t always want to hear her observations and questions. But that character was being replaced by a cookie-cutter misunderstood anti-hero, who wasn’t thinking, just running off to chase butterflies, who was always right because he was The Guy. Scully, as an investigator, the little agent who could, was simply being sidelined. Sure, she’d argue with Mulder, but the writers had stopped giving her and her logical viewpoint a real role in their cases, Darin excepted, again. As the series went on, the Agent and Doctor Dana Scully I respected was replaced with this snappish little female whose only notable skill was running in high heels, who spent her time standing around with her arms crossed, and made pruney faces at Mulder if she were required to do any actual investigating. I hated that character, but, apparently, the all-male writing staff just loved her.
I knew about the on-line fandom, so I thought to check out if anybody else had noticed these “improvements.” First, I spent time at ATXF, discussing the changes with the series, that disturbed a lot of folks, not just me. Eventually, I tripped onto ATXC. There were writers there who understood the two characters, quite well, but weren’t that interested in the other problems with the show that bothered me deeply.
Like many fan-fiction writers, I decided to try to bring in, or in my case, bring back, what I was missing in what was being aired. Sins of the Fathers was the result. As I mentioned above, it was a far from perfect story, but I learned much putting it together, and it got a lot of positive feedback. So I kept writing and trying to improve what I wrote. Folks appreciated it, then and now, surprisingly, which was endless encouragement to keep going. What is your relationship like now to X-Files fandom? With work and my Mom, as I mentioned above, I dropped out for a few years. My new job is still microwave remote sensing of the Earth, at a University-affiliated laboratory, not working directly for the government, but the NASA/NSF-type funding for the research I like to do is much harder to come by, so it takes up a lot more of my time to keep funded and working. Adding to that, I haven’t found places like ATXC in the 90’s or the Endies Board, but I suppose lightning only strikes once. Were you involved with any fandoms after the X-Files? If so, what was it like compared to X-Files?
Not really, no. I’ve enjoyed other TV series, but, I never felt those shows were just throwing away essential parts of themselves as X-F did, or, if they went bad, I simply stopped watching them. A fandom is, or can be, a huge time commitment, which, as I’ve noted, I don’t have that much of. I discuss this quite extensively in my author’s notes at the end of Chermera, so I won’t repeat myself. [Lilydale note: the long author notes are at the end of the story’s last chapter, not in the AO3 notes section.] Who are some of your favorite fictional characters? Why?
As a child, I loved reading myths and legends from many different cultures. So many amazing stories, so much that touches on truth. Greek myth, Norse legends, Islamic tales, Celtic fables, all of them. It goes without saying that discovering Tolkien’s fully-realized Middle Earth in my early teens was like falling into an river of endless delights.
In literature, perhaps the character I enjoy most is Sherlock Holmes. On television/in movies, I’d have to say: Beverly Crusher, (early) Dana Scully, Susan Ivanova of Babylon 5, Pa’u Zotoh Zhaan and (early) Aeryn Sun on Farscape, Samantha Carter on Stargate SG-1, Hermione Granger, and most recently, Lagertha on Vikings. Dunno, there might be a pattern there. Possibly. Do you ever still watch The X-Files or think about Mulder and Scully?
Yes, absolutely. I started rewatching the series when it ran on BBC America, enjoying the first two seasons again. I’d actually never stopped thinking about Mulder and Scully; I just lost the time to write about them, until two years ago, when I managed to land some long-term funding so I wasn’t staying up nights writing proposals every few months. I’d have a thought about how to advance the story that became Chermera, so I’d make a mental note and play with it in my head. I also have two more novels and a satyr play left to go in the sequence of stories I want to write, so I’m turning over plot-lines and potential arcs in my head all the time. Do you ever still read X-Files fic? Fic in another fandom? I do read X-F fan-fic. Since the series has wandered so far away from what engaged me, and most fan-fic keeps up with that, I don’t read very much. As far as other fandoms, one was enough. Do you have any favorite X-Files fan-fic stories or authors?
Reaching back into the dark ages, I’d say Pellinor and Nascent. They may both be available on Gossamer. [Lilydale note: Fortunately, they are!] What is your favorite of your own fics, X-Files and/or otherwise? Zurvan is the favorite of my older stories. It, like Twelfth Night (Denha on AO3 to avoid confusion with another X-F story named Twelfth Night), builds on the past stories in their trilogies and brings the overall arc to new places. It’s fun to uncover surprises when writing and develop challenges to address in the future, which both of those stories did. Do you think you'll ever write another X-Files story? Or dust off and post an oldie that for whatever reason never made it online?
I’d certainly like to. I had planned to write three trilogies with their satyr plays, each of them focusing on an aspect of the mythical Triple Goddess: Maiden, Matron, and Crone, in the X-F universe. Only, being me, I turned it around. Sandra Ann Miller (Samantha) is the Maiden, but I’ve just started telling that part of the arc with the transitional Anath and the first trilogy story Chermera. I’m approaching this trilogy as a coherent tale spread across the three novels, which is different from the other two. The Caroline Lowenberg Trilogy didn’t really get organized until Twelfth Night. It was only the third story I’d ever written, so perhaps I can be excused. The Dana Scully Trilogy was all interconnected, but that was more of an organic, rather than a pre-planned and deliberate, effort. I didn’t really grasp the full arc of what I was creating there until I was writing Chermera and looked back over the threads running from Rustic Suite through Anath. The next story in the Sandra Ann Miller Trilogy involves the exposure of the Japanese arm of the Consortium, but, I need to read up on Japanese history, myths and legends, and world view before I write it. After finishing and posting Chermera, that’s what I’ve been doing. The conflict between Amaterasu, the Sun goddess, and her ne’er-do-well brother Susanoo-no-Mikoto, the god of, among other things, storms, marriage, and love, as told in the Kojiki and the Nihongi (both written down in their near-final forms at the same time as we in the West were just recording the first skeletal versions of the Arthurian Legends), will definitely get worked into the Sandra Ann Miller Trilogy. I’m starting to put the arcs and plot-lines together, but, I’m not ready to begin writing yet. Do you still write fic now? Or other creative work? As I’ve discussed, I do. Part of why I take my time is because Mulder and Scully are owed real, challenging cases to solve - the two intelligent agents with their own approaches, strengths, and weaknesses, remember. Partly, because I have original fiction ideas I’d like to pursue. Trying to do the best I possibly can in the sheltered world of X-F where I attempt to create stories with universal themes, well-realized settings, coherent plot-lines, and original characters who resonate with my readers is practice for the original fiction. I’ll never write the Great American Novel (whatever that is), but I’d like to write stories that are as good as I can make them and fun for my readers, so I keep plugging. Where do you get ideas for stories? Reading and thinking, mostly. I try to look for ideas that haven’t been done to death, or different approaches to old themes. I have four original novels I scribble mental notes on. After I bring this myth-arc I’ve been working on to its (to me) logical resolution, I hope I’ll be able enough of a writer to get started on them. What's the story behind your pen name? Actually, it’s my real name. At the time I started writing, I didn’t think to do anything else. On ATXC and Gossamer, I wrote several of the shorts that are separate from the Kuxan Sum Cycle under the pen name Lise Meitner. She was a Twentieth Century theoretical physicist who explained nuclear fission, then was cut out of a Nobel prize because the judges of her day thought Marie Curie and Irene Joliot-Curie were “enough” women physicists working in radioactivity to be so honored. [Lilydale note: here’s her Wikipedia page. Among many other fascinating things talked about there, she was nominated for the Nobel Prize 48 times in two different categories and had the 109th chemical element, meitnerium, named after her. She also escaped Nazi Germany in a plot involving trains, boats, planes, and an emergency diamond ring. You really ought to read about her.] Do your friends and family know about your fic and, if so, what have been their reactions?
I’d shared the first five of my novels with my family back in 1996. They liked them, my sister especially. I’m not sure they knew what to make of them. I haven’t shown them to my in-laws, but, I think my sister-in-law found them on her own. We haven’t discussed them, as they aren’t her usual preference, which is Romance. One distant blood relation was thrilled to discover them on-line and wrote me about them. My sister, though, is my (self-admitted) biggest fan. When we were kids, she and I shared a bedroom, where I’d make up stories to tell her at night so she could fall asleep. She and I correspond regularly by E-mail (she’s in Florida and I’m in Maryland). Back while I was working my way through Chermera, she asked out of the blue if I was ever going to write any more. She was thrilled to hear I had been but she doesn’t have regular Internet access other than at her job. I made printed, bound copies of all my stories to mail to her last Christmas. She loves them, bless her. Is there a place online (tumblr, twitter, AO3, etc.) where people can find you and/or your stories now?
I’ve sent Chermera to Gossamer, but, it hasn’t been updated since July 2018. All the rest of the stories are there.
At AO3, my stories are under: https://archiveofourown.org/users/mrkeller. The Kuxan Sum Cycle is linked together at: https://archiveofourown.org/series/1555492.
I’ve published the Lise Meitner stories under my own name there: Faustus Mulder; Late Night Thoughts on Evolution, Hard Times, and Lost Pets; You Just Don’t Understand; and Lux Perpetua. Since I could separate out the trilogies into their own cycle, it just made sense.
At fan-fiction.net, they’re under: https://www.fanfiction.net/~maryruthkeller
Again, the Lise Meitner stories are under my own name. Since fanfiction.net doesn’t have a linked series option like AO3, I’ve added a header to all eleven of the stories in the Kuxan Sum Cycle so far explaining the order. The novels all are tagged with thumbnail versions of the covers I made for them. Also, the literary quotes I started each chapter and begin and end each story with, are kept in the AO3 versions, but are removed at fanfiction.net to avoid potential copyright issues. Shakespeare, Christine de Pisan, the Popol Vuh, the Ugaritic myths around Anath, and others are all long out of, or never were in, copyright, of course, but, just to be on the safe side, I’m following fanfiction.net’s rules.
If folks care to write, I’m still at my old eclipse address: [email protected]. Is there anything else you'd like to share with fans of X-Files fic?
Enjoy it, use it as an opportunity to make connections and expand your horizons as a storyteller. Fan-fiction was much more of a home-grown effort back in the 90’s than it is now, when there are how-to books, of all things. But, don’t get so wrapped up one forgets about real life. That’s where all the best stories are.

IRS Audit
We can help you if you’re undergoing an IRS Audit. If you’ve received papers, call us to discuss your situation right away.
What is an IRS audit?
An IRS audit is a review/examination of an organization’s or individual’s accounts and financial information to ensure information is being reported correctly, according to the tax laws, to verify the amount of tax reported is accurate. The tax lawyers are seasoned and experienced in tax controversy and can successfully guide you through an IRS audit.
IRS Audit Selection
Selecting a return for audit does not always suggest that an error has been made. Returns are selected by the IRS using a variety of methods, including:
Random selection and computer screening – sometimes returns are selected based solely on a statistical formula.
Document matching – when taxpayer records, such as Forms W-2 or Form 1099, don’t match the information reported.
Related examinations – returns may be selected for audit when they involve issues or transactions with other taxpayers, such as business partners or investors, whose returns were selected for audit.
Audit Methods
An audit may be conducted by mail or through an in-person interview and review of the taxpayer’s records. The interview may be at an IRS office (office audit) or at the taxpayer’s home, place of business, or attorney’s office (field audit). The IRS will tell you what records are needed. Audits can result in no changes or changes. Any proposed changes to your return will be explained by a document called an exam change report.
IRS Audit Notification
Should your account be selected for audit, you will be notified in two ways:
By mail, or
By telephone
In the case of a telephone contact, the IRS will still send a letter confirming the audit. The letter notifying you that your return was selected for audit will also contain an information document request (IDR) that will outline which line items will be examined and inform you which documents are being requested from you.
Your Rights During an Audit
You have significant rights as a taxpayer in the examination, appeal, collection, and refund processes. These rights include:
A right to professional and courteous treatment by IRS employees.
A right to privacy and confidentiality about tax matters.
A right to know why the IRS is asking for information, how the IRS will use it and what will happen if the requested information is not provided.
A right to representation, by oneself or an authorized representative (tax attorney).
A right to appeal disagreements, both within the IRS and before the courts.
It is critical that you obtain representation by a skilled tax attorney who will ensure that your rights are protected during any contact you have with the IRS.
IRS Audit Length
The length of each audit varies depending on the type of audit, the complexity of items being reviewed, the availability of information being requested, the availability of both parties for scheduling of meetings, and your agreement or disagreement with the findings.
Records Needed
You will be provided with a written request for specific documents needed. The law requires you to retain records used to prepare your return. Those records generally should be kept for three years from the date the tax return was filed.
The IRS does accept some electronic records. If records are kept electronically, the IRS may request those in lieu of or in addition to other types of records.
Audit Determinations
An IRS audit can be concluded in three ways:
No change: an audit in which the taxpayer substantiates all of the items being reviewed and results in no changes.
Agreed: an audit where the IRS proposes changes and the taxpayer understands and agrees with the changes.
Disagreed: an audit where the IRS has proposed changes and the taxpayer understands, but disagrees with the changes.
What Happens When You AGREE With The Audit Findings?
If you agree with the audit findings, you will be asked to sign the examination report or a similar form depending upon the type of audit conducted.
If money is owed, there are several payment options available. If you cannot make a full payment right away, you are allowed to establish an installment agreement with the IRS to make monthly payments that are affordable to you. You also may qualify for an offer in compromise or innocent spouse relief.
What Happens When You DISAGREE with the Audit Findings?
A conference with a manager may be requested for further review of the issue or issues. In addition, Appeals Mediation Programs or an Appeal request may be filed. If you cannot resolve your disagreement with the manager, you are entitled to use every avenue to dispute the proposed deficiency.
