#winx club missed opportunities

Bringing in Irish/Celtic myths to winx (Tír na nÓg, Leprechauns etc) was such a fun idea and tbh it was just so under-utilised

A scene in S1E10 that annoyed me
Tumblr media
We all know Winx Club is too Bloom-centric and doesn't give enough time and attention on its other characters away from her, but here's a moment that could've been really cool for one of the others but in typical Winx Club fashion, they didn't do it.
In S1E10 - Bloom Tested, Bloom enters the simulator for her exam, whilst in it she's attacked by the Trix who are trying to figure out if she has the dragonflame or not (in which they learn she does). Meanwhile Palladium outside is trying to stabilise things as he can see something is wrong. It takes him a good while to fix things whilst Bloom is still being attacked, she eventually destroys the Trix on her own eitherway and shortly after things return to normal.
But here's the thing: Palladium struggles understandably to get things under control, but consider: Tecna is literally right next to him and even better the girls are asking her what's wrong as she's the one who would know. What if in this scene Tecna jumped into help him to try and shut the Trix down, taking an active role alongside him? Maybe even she figured something out that Palladium didn't and then ended up being the reason Trix were dealt with? Wouldn't that have been such a good moment for her and it would've made so much sense? The Winx are shown to be exceptional in multiple ways and this would've been a great way to show that. Not just exceptional because the show needs them to be, but because they have real skills that are actively useful and they use them smartly. Tecna could've gotten a huge dub out of this scene which would've been awesome for her.
It's disappointing because it's not just this scene, there's so many moments in this show where there are missed opportunities for character development and the show almost never takes them. Too many moments where the show prioritises Bloom when it really needs to give others the spotlight. It's not one scene or one episode or even one season, it's a problem in every part of the show no matter where you look that Bloom is oversaturated. It's the little things like this scene that add up overtime to cause what I would probably argue is Winx Club's biggest problem.

when ppl first discovered that winx club was italian i was a little bit confused. winx is full of sarcasm, im not even kidding, and since usa isn't known for this type of comedy it would have made sense for winx not to be american. then i checked cinelume dub and i got why everyone was surprised... all the sarcasm was cut off. why??? you dont even know how much funny is italian dub, especially stella and musa are so fun to listen to (stella for example calls everyone with sarcastic nicknames (she is so me)). i know that they kept some lines but you still miss most of the comedy. somehow it looks like a total different show... it would have been also a good opportunity to learn more about italian culture. that's sad

After 3 years of being on hiatus (if I can even call it that), I’ve decided to return to my writing, despite only having published one fanfic from the Winx Club series lmao. I had written two more before and left them unfinished but I’m back at it.
Anyway, I’ve recently been reading the Winx comics and some fanfics that I’ve either read before or are new to me. Again anything with Griffin, I’ll read. Even more so if it’s a Griffin and Faragonda friendship/romance. Also anything with the Company of Light, I’ll also read.
I think the time before the Winx really fascinates me, especially the Company of Light era. There is so much material to explore, which I think is a HUGE missed opportunity from the writers of the show. Not to mention the countless plot holes that I, and several other fanfic writers, are trying to piece together in our own AU.
I’m currently rewriting ‘Heartbreak Anniversary’ and potentially changing its name to something more suitable. This follows 10 years before Season 1 and provides my own backstory of what went south between the two headmistresses of Cloud Tower and Alfea with flashbacks from the battle in Domino and when they were younger.
This leads to my second chapter, which I’m also writing, following the end of Season 1. To me, this is the time when they reconcile their friendship that gradually changes over time to lovers. (Though, they’ve always had something for each other in my verse)
The third chapter I'm writing follows Season 2, Episode 17 where Griffin teleports into Faragonda's office just to 'talk about strategy' *wink, wink*. After the three chapters, I’ll start piecing together my Company of Light AU. I’ve been writing notes of my head canons for each member, some of the winx’s parents, villains, planets/realms/dimensions, and the whole world building of it that I’ll share soon.
I guess I’m trying to fill in the holes the Winx writers left throughout the series, picking up clues to make sense of some of the characters and their storylines in my own alternate universe.
I’ll probably write some Griffin x Faragonda one-shots in the future but don’t quote me on that lol because I don't know when I'll get to it. I’m still finding my feet with my writing because my only background is poetry and it’s always been one of my passions. I’ve only ever written 3 fictions and a few magazine articles.
For now, I’m gathering facts about Griffin from the show, comics, and the enciclomagia. Feel free to exchange head canons with myself!

So in your Winx club post, you said that the poses don't reflect the characters personalities. And I realized that might be a problem with monster high too. And side not what's your opinion on the monster high designs ? ( Apology if you're not familiar with the series)
Folks I'm just gonna put this out there: Early-90s kid speaking. For a lot of kids' media that came out in the 2000s and beyond, I'd already aged out of their target audience. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the odd Spongebob, Flapjack, or Chowder, but that's probably because their humor and creativity were accessible to broader demographics. So as a general PSA, if you're wondering whether or not I'm acquainted with a series tailored specifically for children post-2001, the answer is "probably not".
That said, I do vaguely recall seeing some of these characters before (a side effect of having any kind of presence on DeviantArt, I'm guessing), but I've never had a reason to actively seek out more information on them. Now that I do, uh...
Tumblr media
...yeah. As someone who knows nothing about these girls' personalities, their poses aren't giving me much to work with. And much like Winx Club, we have more Sameface and Samebody Syndrome going on, which feels like a huge missed opportunity since these are monster girls. There's so much potential for creativity that isn't being utilized.
I checked out the Monster High wiki for this and there are some pretty cool character concepts there. Sure, you've got the standard MGM movie monsters in the main cast, but then you've got a gargoyle girl, a yeti girl, a 15-foot-tall goo girl, and the fucking Grim Reaper's daughter??
Tumblr media
And... and... A zombie-unicorn hybrid? Are you kidding me?
Tumblr media
Child-me would have eaten that shit up, and even more so if the characters actually looked like monsters rather than humans cosplaying as monsters.
Look, I get it, this is a line of fashion dolls first and foremost, and reusing the same mold for everyone's faces and bodies is more cost-effective than creating a new one for every character. But if Mattel just split the difference and maybe created separate head molds for every species (as well as the two sexes within that species), there'd at least be a bit more variety. Honestly, where's the harm in making dolls with some unconventional looks? Where's the harm in showing girls their worth isn't diminished if they don't have the standard Bratz face?
Man, now I want to redesign some of these.

CATCHING MY BREATH, STARING OUT AN OPEN WINDOW
Aisha Andros is based on Aisha from Winx Club. She is a 25 year old fairy, bathhouse employee, and uses she/her pronouns. She has the power of flight, bubble manipulation, and water manipulation. Aisha is portrayed by Lovie Simone and she is open.
CATCHING MY DEATH, AND I COULDN’T BE SURE
Hailing from the land of Andros, Aisha is royalty down to her core. She was raised as a traditional princess and every single move she made was scrutinized. She wasn’t allowed to have many friends if her family didn’t pick them out herself and one toe out of line resulted in groundings of the highest degree. Her entire life was mapped out for her before she could have a say; from an arranged marriage to the shoes she chose to wear that day. All Aisha ever wanted was a chance to make her own choices and learn more about her own magic. Her only solace being a place where pixies conjured and kept her company as she gained their trust. She would often sneak around to hang around her pixie friends and after going on several adventures of her own with them, she somehow wound up right outside of Alfea and introduced to several students from there that would change her life for the better. She might have been late to the party, but Aisha fit in with Bloom and the others right from the jump. After begging her parents to let her stop homeschooling and go to Alfea to strengthen her magic, she was surprisingly given the opportunity. Having true friends like the Winx Club was unlike anything she could have dreamed of. She was the mom friend at most times, but of course those traditional royal views came in from time to time. The more adventures they went on, the more she loosened up and let her hair down. Even with her birthright in the back of her mind at all times. It was a no-brainer trying to find Stella the moment she went missing. When tracking her down was easier than expected, Aisha of course, was concerned by that. Still, they made it to Earth and a strange town called Evermore and then…well, Aisha is still trying to figure it out. It felt like one day she was figuring out her place at Alfea and the next she was in Evermore, trying to start a new life for herself while still trying to find her missing friend. She got herself a job at a really weird bathhouse and just…kind of adapted to what she could. In the back of her mind she is worried about her kingdom she feels like she has left behind and the responsibilities that come with that. At the same time in Evermore she could be whoever she wanted to be and that was kind of thrilling to her. As the years passed Aisha was learning that while she knew a lot about herself, there was still so much to discover. She is taking this opportunity to figure out where she stands with herself and her kingdom and how the two can someday co-exist. Stella’s disappearance is still hanging over her head just as much as it is the rest of her friends but she is determined that she will show up and things will work itself out. If they didn’t and they all ended up being truly stuck in Evermore forever…it might not be the worst thing.
I HAD A FEELING SO PECULIAR
❀ Ariel Carinae: She adores Ariel! She has such a unique perception of life and Aisha feels like she is learning a lot by being her friend! ❀ Ami Mizuno: Aisha really feels like her and Ami are cut from the same cloth. She feels so calm and at peace when she is around Ami and feels like she can fully be herself around the girl. She would easily call her one of her dearest friends. ❀ Haku Kita: One of her coworkers. He’s a bit mysterious and hard to read, but she likes him enough. She’s only a receptionist so it’s not like she sees him that much but when she does she always makes sure to see how he’s doing.
THAT THIS PAIN WOULD BE FOR EVERMORE

Winx Club Hot Take 5!
Tumblr media
I adored The Pixies ever since they debuted in Season 2. I love their designs, I love their names, I love how they contributed to the story and world-building (mainly in Season 2's case), and I love their relationship with The Winx. The idea of having our main fairies have a special bond with these little sweethearts was such a cute idea! Especially with their dynamics. Bloom was bonded with Lockette (The Pixie of Portals) and while Bloom is outgoing, headstrong, and a little hotheaded (insert fire-related joke here), Lockette is shy and a bit of a scaredy-cat. Musa was bonded with Tune (The Pixie of Manners) so Musa's carefree personality contrasts with Tune's conservatism. Flora was bonded with Chatta (The Pixie of Gossip) and because Chatta's loud personality and endless speaking helps Flora come out of her shell, it helped her confess her feelings to Helia. Stella bonds with Amore (The Pixie of Love) who adores Stella while being elegant and poise (the features Stella thinks she has). Techna bonds with Digit (The Pixie of Nanotechnology) who brings out Techna's louder emotions such as excitement. Lastly, we have Piff (The Pixie of Sweet Dreams) who is a baby. While being bonded with Aisha, she brings her comfort by staying near her and is able to chase her nightmares away. The Pixies were great additions to the series and it's cute that they got their own spinoff show, PopPixie!
Then.....Season 6 rolled around! Now, Season 6 had come out around the time Winx Club was approaching it's 10th year anniversary and that meant bringing back a lot of nostalgia but also missing the point of why that nostalgia mattered in terms of the characters. Back in Seasons 2&3 and maybe 4, each of The Pixies had their own personalities and charm to them that complimented their bond with The Winx. Now, Season 6 made The Pixies all act similar to each other which diminishes their bond and when one of the Pixies does show more personality, it flanderizes their former selves. I also have to address the elephant in the room that Digit and Tune straight up got REPLACED by two pixies from the Poppixie series despite the fact that they CAN be seen in The Pixie Village later on during the season. So that means Musa is now supposedly bonded with Cherie (The Pixie of Weather and apparently the richest pixie) and Techna is now supposedly bonded with Caramel or Cara for short (The Pixie of Super Strength). I don't have anything against Cherie or Cara but I wish they had a better opportunity to shine rather than being known as the new girls who replaced two fan favorite pixies. I believe the spinoff does them more justice than Season 6.
Tumblr media
I love The Pixies, but they also deserved better! They're so precious!

Pullin’a bit of a fast one, but I was quite curious. 👀
For the character questions; Mist/no.96? 🩵
Oooooo The Fun Astral, now this is a spicy character we're talking about in zexal, and I have some thoughts on him. Although I have to admit I didn't pay enough attention to him in the past rewatches, so my memories may be a bit fuzzy about him, but I always found him to be an intriguing villain in Zexal, so here lays my truest thoughts on Dark Mist, aka Mr. No.96
•How do you feel about this character
I really liked Dark Mist as a character, he's just a living and breathing slimy liquorice who likes to wrap tentacles around Astral and is so horny for hi- I mean posses him and dreams about making out wit- I meant become independent and powerful of course (we've all been there...) BUT SERIOUSLY THOUGH THIS MAN IS SO DOWN BAD FOR ASTRAL HE KEEPS MOANING HIS NAME EVERYTIME HE'S FRUITY ASF─
There is also a part of me that feels like he didn't appear often enough or there were missed opportunities to kind of hit the mark in terms of writing, but this is Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal we are talking about I didn't expect anything less about a show who keeps shoehorning protagonists and put unnecessary filler over actually interesting side characters (this is my and my opinion alone and I will stand by it).
Ideally what Dark Mist represents is an interesting concept, if Astral is the light then he's the darkness. "Where there is light, there is darkness" Dark Mist said in one episode, implying Astral needs to use the "Power of evil" aka No. 96, when necessary, or a part of Dark Mist will always be within Astral, but they don't use this concept beyond one episode, it's just cheap writing making him to appear once in a blue moon throughout the show and dip just like that.
Later we discover that he is born from a fragment of Don 1000 trapped in Astral and took the identity of a Number card, as Astral likes to randomly split into cards because Yu-Gi-Oh - but what I found very interesting is he's not either on Astral world's side, nor the Barian world, even though he was born from a fragment of the Barian God himself. He's just a free spirit who does everything for his own benefit, but in doing so he keeps getting sent to horny jail- I meant get sealed by Astral.
He is cunning enough to let himself be absorbed by Astral just so he can play him inside the Emperor's Key, which is very smart of him, but then he is trapped in a cycle of...
Tumblr media
I feel like the writers just didn't know what to do with him at this point, he's as threatening as the Trix in Winx club (like- I can even draw parallels and similarities) and Astral keeps winning against him again and again cause 'Good triumph over evil yay', seriously I feel like he's a missed potential. Also can we talk about how many times he broke free? Like Astral, what lock are you using to seal him lmao?? (The writers doesn't even explain this btw)
Later on, No.96 just decided to trick Astral into releasing him and then for some reason decided to possess Donald Trump but good for him I guess.
ALSO
CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE PURPLE LIPSTICK
Tumblr media
LIKE OMG, I KNOW HE WAS A FRUIT BEFORE, BUT THEY TOOK IT TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL
He really put some lipstick and said "I'm a god now", can't blame him (Also I have to be honest about his God complex era, HE WAS SO ANNOYING, HE PROBABLY SAID "KAMI" MORE THAN KOTORI CALLING YUMA'S NAME)
Also him treating Vector as a pet while being used and Vector just seething inside was so funny to see, it's like a complete opposite end pair compared to Yuma and Astral.
Overall he's pretty solid, I just wish the writers treated him better and made him a more complex villain (like this guy wasn't in anyone's side they could have done so much more than "he bombs all three worlds cause he can now" like c'monnn they made him flat and one dimensional in the end compared to how he used to be???).
•All the people I ship romantically with this character
I like to ship him with Astral and Vector as a joke.
•My unpopular opinion about this character
He ate with the purple lipstick c'mon now
•One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon
I think I pretty much summed it up in the first part, but anyway he's not dead and alive in Zexal III canon.

Do you have any advice for planning out a rewrite (incl. plot, characters (incl. your ocs/self-inserts and integrating them into your rewrite as if they were canon characters in [insert source material/piece of media here]), arcs (plot-wise & character-wise), redesigns (if you're going to include them in your rewrite, that is), and fixing issues the piece of media has (ex. addressing fan criticisms, fulfilling wasted/missed potential & missed opportunities, answering unanswered questions, resolving unresolved plots, filling in plot holes, fixing inconsistencies (be it with the plot, characters, worldbuilding, or even minor details), giving characters you and/or fans felt were done dirty and deserved better, and what to keep & what to cut in your rewrite)? ✍🏻📝📖📔📓📚🌈💭
I ask because I'm doing some work for my Let's Reimagine series and my Ben 10 Reboot Reimagined project and thought I could ask a fellow friend of mine who is a writer (you) for some advice on how to plan out a rewrite. Not just for B10RB Reimagined, but for all my projects from Let's Reimagine as well (ex. Power Rangers Reimagined, Helluva Boss Reimagined, Winx Club Reimagined, Steven Universe Reimagined, Pokémon Anime Reimagined (Sun & Moon, Journeys, & Horizons), etc). That, and I was also inspired by an ask between me and @helluvabossrewrite45 (who btw I highly recommend checking out if haven't before, as their rewrites of HB are really great, so great that I can hear the characters voices in my head when reading the rewritten scenes because of how good the dialogue in those rewritten scenes are) where I asked them for some writing advice in regard to rewrite stuff. 🙋🏻‍♀️🤔💭
Feel free to respond back to me whenever you get the chance. Thank you and have a wonderful day/afternoon/night G.B. 🤗💕❤️🧡💛💚💙💜💖💕🤗

'A Green Goblet' - Oneshot story between Ryota Yakushimaru and Housamo!Flora (platonic)
'The Winx Club'. The name of a group worming its way around Shinjuku Academy. Through the hallways, mentions of delinquent behaviour, skipping class, denial of authority. And all from a simple group of six girls. Ryota has heard of them in passing, though with a school as huge and diverse as this it was unlikely that he'd ever even see them. He was more preoccupied with his friends and their problems anyhow. Ryota makes his way over to the roof. The rest of the Summoners are all off doing their own things and he doesn't wish to intrude. Through the fence, courtyard sweeps into his view. A warm, orangey light gives colour to the grey stones. The roof itself is mostly sparse, simply having a few benches and a small alcove which leads to the stairs. Ryota adjusts his weight and lets himself flop onto one of them, reaching into his pocket and taking out a sweet. He closes his eyes as he throws it into his mouth and swallows it whole. It's a nice blend of sweet and sour, must have been lemon-flavoured. His eyes open to settle on a girl who has just ascended the stairs. Her skin is a deep caramel tone, her outfit a foresty green cardigan and pale pink jeans. Ryota looks down at his own clothes, an orange jumper, brown gloves and black tracksuit bottoms. --- Flora's eyes lay transfixed on the potted plant in her hands. She was hoping to come to the roof for some peace and quiet. Her legs guide her to a nearby bench before raises her head. She thinks to herself. A reputation is one thing, but it doesn't matter if you have friends who care, right? She sighs, the romantic in her waning on how many lost opportunities she may have missed.
Her emerald-green eyes widen as she starts to hear the passage of footsteps. She turns around to see a short and stout man smiling at her, waving. "Hi!" He says, his voice having a warm, fuzzy texture. "You look kind of lonely, want some company?"
There's a quick puff of breath out of her nose, a small chuckle. "Hello." Her voice is soft and slightly deep. "I wouldn't be opposed… What's your name?"
The young man in front of her chuckles a bit, scratching the back of his head. "Just call me Ryota." She smiles. "My name is Fujiko Carvalho."
"All right, Miss Cara- Carab- Carabal." He shakes his head between each stammer. "I prefer Flora." She says simply. --- "Man…" Ryota sighs, dissapointed at his inability to speak correctly there. "Wait a second." He begins to hum, thinking. Flora, isn't that the name of one of the Winx girls? "Are you a member of the Winx Club?" He asks, tilting his head.
Flora turns her head away, raising one hand from the potted plant to hold her neck. Ryota places a hand on his forehead. "It's okay, it's okay."
He scoots in to sit next to her. "You don't seem like a bad person to me." He shrugs. "Wait, that came out wrong." He groans as he holds his head, fingers pressed into his dyed, pale red hair.
"It's fine." He hears her voice as she places a hand on his shoulder. "But yes, I am. We just do things our own way." Ryota feels his cheeks push up as he smiles, glad he didn't mess anything up. "And, well, you only know Japanese, right? My parents are from Brazil, I don't blame you for not getting it right."
"Yeah, yeah." He holds one of the arms of the bench. "Thanks." Ryota takes note of Flora's appearance and seeming elegance. Despite that, he also notices that her arms are quite toned. ---
Flora leans back on the bench, starting to feel more confortable. Ryota pipes up with a question. "Do you work out?" Flora blinks for a moment before shaking her head. "No, but I do camping a lot. Getting in tune with nature is important to me."
Ryota continues. "Yeah, I get it." Flora places a hand against her chin, a brow furrowing. "What about you?" Her expression and posture soothes again. "Anything interesting with you?"
Flora sees him nod. His body thrusts itself up from the bench as he turns to face her. He spreads his arms out in a goofy way. "Well, I consider eating and comparing foods a hobby of mine. I play some video games and uh… I guess helping other people is what's important to me."
She stands up as well, the pot in her hands. "Yeah." She takes one hand away and points over to the goblet slung with the thermos around Ryota's neck. "What is that?" --- Ryota's brows come together, slightly upturned. "Oh, the goblet? Uh… just something I found. Turns out it's kind of important." He shrugs. "It's not really much."
Flora pushes her hand into her pocket. "It's a sacred artefact, isn't it?" She pulls out a feather quill. Ryota taps his chin. "Yeah, it is. You're an app user too?"
Flora smiles. "Yes, the others are as well." Ryota shuts his eyes tight before snapping his fingers. "So the Winx Club is a guild, that's why you're always together."
He sees Flora place her hand against her neck. "I suppose you couls say that. We came together for two reasons, one to help each other in the app and two because we believe we can learn more if we collaborate. Regular classes don't work for a lot of us so we take what we're good at and hone that."
Ryota nods. "So that's why you skip class. You still wanna learn, you just don't like school's way of it… Understandable, really." --- Flora smiles as she opens the door, she should probably check on the others right about now. The two of them continue talking as they descend the stairs, sharing bits and pieces with each other.
Ryota has made a new friend like he always does and Flora feels just that slight bit more confident about what she's doing.

You know for the life of me I never understood how in Winx club they had schools for witches and fairies but not mermaids. Like…what about a merperson school huh? Missed opportunities fr
Yeah, or like, what about the guys with magic? They exist in universe. And would Layla technically go to mermaid school since she's from Andros? Is that where she went before?

Why Mirta is my favourite Winx Club character
I mean, the aesthetic helps. I like redheads and goths, which she is both of, also she has that black sleeveless top which seems to keep popping in my "literally me" characters (Susie from Deltarune, Dipper from Gravity Falls, and Hilda from Pokemon B&W)
Tumblr media
So what do I see in Mirta?... Idk I like her ig, what? I don't have to have super well-thought opinions every time, she's just cool! And you know it!
But I guess a little extra analysis wouldn't hurt would it:
So as we all know, Winx Club's witches aren't the best. The show takes a very simplistic view that fairies are innately good, and witches are innately evil. This essentialist view has been critiqued extensively overtime and for good reason: it's a major missed opportunity to have such a narrow idea of what fairies and witches are, and also is just not very original. Witches and witchcraft in media have been portrayed extensively as just simply evil with no real explanation. Winx Club could have chosen to have taken a more interesting and original interpretation, but true to the shows mission statement of being brutally average, it doesn't. I've got some of my own ideas of how they could've handled this and I'll probably share those in a future post. But sufficed to say: Winx Club's witches are definitely a disappointment (for a more comprehensive look at witches, see Unicorn of War's video on YouTube about the subject).
But then we have Mirta, the one good witch supposedly. Bar the Trix, the ancestral witches, and maybe Griffin she's probably the most important witch in the show at least earlier on. The fact that she's actually different by being good invites intrigue to her character, she actually believes in something which is really quite cool and a nice standout amongst the rest. The Trix clearly are the mean girls in Cloud Tower with other witches wanting to be like them or to be friends with them. Lucy, Mirta's best friend, is in this camp and is disillusioned with her looks and supposed status and seeks to remedy this by trying to be more like the Trix. Mirta on the other hand doesn't follow this dogma and tries to convince Lucy to stay clear of them. This is great, though as I've said it would've been nice if the show portrayed witches more broadly as being a bit less black and white. Her assistance to the Winxes was cool too informing them of the Trix' plans and actions. Wow! Isn't that so awesome! She was shaping up to be an interesting and well-developed and fleshed out side character and then they remembered it was season 1 and that's illegal so they turn her into a pumpkin so they can forget about her. Why? Because fuck you! That's why! Though seriously, I don't mind in theory she was turned into a pumpkin but like really? She could've been a really fun part of the equation throughout the latter parts of season 1 as like the Winxes' witch counterpart. ALSO, when they bring her back to Alfea in pumpkin form, did they not think to like, ask Faragonda to turn her back? The Trix did the spell pre-dragonflame I highly doubt it's anything Faragonda or at the very least Griffin couldn't handle which I'd imagine they'd probably want to inform her of what'd happen considering she's one of her students?! Man if I was Mirta I'd be PISSED off. #JusticeForMirta. Eventually she's freed from her pumpkinhood and once season 1 concludes she decides to become a fairy and transfers to Alfea. Like with becoming a pumpkin: I don't hate that she does this on principle, but I do think it says a lot about how the show writes its witches that the one they make out to be good-natured ends up choosing to become a fairy. Like the view of fairies and witches is THAT rigid.
Though I also do think it's a fun transgender analogy, the idea of being able to transition from witch to fairy and vice versa. The 4Kids dub takes this idea much more seriously with Mirta being described as "transmagic" and Darcy also states "she claims to be fairy who just so be happened to be born in the wrong body", this appears to be a very intentional parallel to the "born in the wrong body" idea that is often used to explain what being trans feels like*, and this was back in 2007 for crying out loud. Additionally Mirta and Lucy are probably the closest thing the main show has to a queer couple, obviously not canon by any means, but they have a very strong bond and are shown to dance together at the end of season 2 (or was it 3 I forgot). Mirta therefore arguably has the most going for her out of any character when it comes to Queer representation.
*Just to be clear, I know plenty of trans people dislike and discredit the "born in the wrong body" narrative, I'm just pointing it out because it does seem this is what the scriptwriters were aiming for.
I like Mirta a lot because of what she could have been. I really think she's an awesome character who had a lot of potential to be fleshed out way more and serve a more involved role in her allyship with the Winxes in season 1 and beyond. It would've been so cool and she deserved way better. I imagine many would be wondering if I think she should've been part of the Winx as she's probably the second most commonly proposed member besides Roxy to be one, and the answer to that is fairly definitive no. Six to me has always felt like a natural limit for these kinds of groups, any more and it starts to be a bit much, which is why I'm glad Roxy didn't become a proper part of the group when season 5 came around (though she still deserved more than what she got). Simply adding Mirta the Winx would ignore the problem that she doesn't get fleshed out enough as a character. Maybe it could've worked in some alternate timeline but she could've been a useful asset to the Winx and the show as a whole whilst not necessarily being a member.
So that's why I like Mirta, she's a fun character who I will defend that she should've gotten more until the day I die. This gay little goth redhead has been my favourite for a long time and I don't see that changing any time soon. Keep stanning Mirta people.
P.S: I really didn't expect this post to get this long LOL I genuinely was gonna post just the "idk I like her" bit and then move on but I was like "ehh, I'll write a little bit" and then I spent 2 hours writing way this whole thing it's 3am I need spiritual assistance okay BYE.

Listen I love Aisha/Layla to death. She’s awesome. She’s fabulous. She brings mystery, adventure, and pixies to the show.
All I’m saying is that there was seriously a missed opportunity to fit my homegirl with bubble braids, and I’m not mad about it, just disappointed. I mean her power is LITERALLY gum. It would be so perfect.
Now I have to find the time to draw her with bubble braids 😪🫡

An A-Z of Fantasy | Machines
While my love for W.I.T.C.H. was the greater I did enjoy Winx Club. The one element that edged it out – but which I didn’t really appreciate at the time – was its incorporation of technology. I do love contemporary fantasy but so often it feels like a missed opportunity. W.I.T.C.H. was also contemporary for its time. The girls had phones but that was so often just a part of the world. The show’s…
