About the event: The Wayfarer Creative Exchange is an anonymous exchange of fanworks, by fans for fans, celebrating the wide variety of MCs within this fandom! We encourage participation from all skill levels, and from fans both new and old.

The Timeline:

Jan. 24 - Feb. 7 | sign-ups Sign ups will open on the 24th of January at 00:00 GMT [ countdown to opening of sign-ups ] and will close at 23:59 GMT on the 7th of February [ countdown to close of sign-ups ]

Feb. 8 - Feb. 22 | Matching, interest review, and assignments This is the period where the Hosts will check over references and request any additions that might be needed, do all the back-end matching, doublecheck that everyone who signed up is still interested, and hang out your assignments. All matches will be assigned on or before the 22nd.

Feb. 23 - Apr. 25 | Creation! This is the creation period! It's long on purpose, to allow time for participants to create work they're proud to gift their giftee, and also (if you like) to create "treats" for other participants. There will be mandatory check-ins on the weekends of the 22nd of March and the 5th of April. At these check-ins we will ask to see some manner of WIP, even if it's just a base sketch or a loose fic outline. We're not looking for polish at the initial check-in stage, only to see that work is underway and is a thoughtful representation of the giftee's MC. At the second check-in we will be wanting to see a work in a more polished state, to be assured that you can complete your piece by the deadline of Apr. 25.

Apr. 26 - May. 11 | Gift review Hosts will use this time to check over submitted works and ensure they meet event guidelines. If we need to request any edits to your finished work we will endeavour to do so as quickly as possible. This is also the final period for any last-minute pinch-hitting.

May. 12 | Reveal day! The big day! Gifts will be shared on tumblr, Ao3, and the official server and we'll all get to see and celebrate everyone's hard work and wonderful MCs :>

[About the Zine]

Description: Dark, evil, and wicked, Specters are the final boss to face in the Saint Seiya franchise. Abandon hope all ye who enter here!

Participation: You will submit one (1) original, new fanwork (older/already published work is not accepted) to be compiled into a zine. Please do not share your final work until the zine has been properly published by SSZ (you may, however, share WIPs, previews, and/or close-ups as you work on it)

Type: The final compilation of all fanworks will be a free, digital PDF file (no physical versions will be made, no money will be earned or paid)

Character: Submission types have the following limitations:

Fanarts: 1 main character per submission (no duplicates ✪)

Fics: focus on 1-2 main characters per submission

Cosplays: 1 main character per submission

Merch Photos: 1 main character per submission

✪ This means most characters will have 1 fanart only. That said, due to their popularity, the following characters will be allowed a max of 2 fanarts overall: Hades, Wyvern Radamanthys, Griffon Minos, Garuda Aiacos, Pandora Heinstein

The Character Confirmation list will be updated daily at 19:00 UTC -6 until the sign-up period is concluded. We appreciate your patience while this occurs. Once you are added to the list and your character is confirmed, you may start working on your submission. This is on a First Come, First Served basis.

For fanarts, you'll input 5 different options, from your top choice to least. ☆ Please note this zine does not review/approve/reject sign-ups, everyone is welcome to take part in the activity as long as they sign-up. If there are any issues, we'll get back to you.

Submission period: 26/Dec/2024 to 8/Jan/2025 23:59 UTC -6. Fanworks submitted after this will not be included (this is non-negotiable). However, if you are facing challenges with your submission, let the staff know ASAP.

Submission: Send via email to saintseiyazone@gmail.com. The email subject should be "Underworld Zine, [Creator], [character/fic name]", and the file name should be:

Fics: [Creator] - [Fic title]. Writers, please also include a 400x400 px image you want us to use in the credits page

Art/Photography Canvas size: 72 dpi, JPEG 

2480 x 3508 px (portrait orientation) OR

Fics: docx file, prose, English or Spanish only (due to Staff limitations). You must include a title (please keep it short), but it won’t be considered towards final count

4 OR 6 full pages in total as exact as possible, Arial font, 11 pt, single space

Margins: 1 in (each)

Paper size: Letter (8.5 in x 11 in)

There must be spaces between your paragraphs

Allowed:

Age reinterpretation (e.g., an adult character as a child)

Alternative Universes

Other applicable characters (including OC), please check FAQ

Not allowed:

AI-generated content of any kind

Characters that do not belong to the Specter faction

NSFW/Explicit content (contact staff for case-by-case reviews)

Non-official genderbends

Crossovers with non-StS series

[Frequently Asked Questions]

May I draw whichever character I want? The purpose of this zine is to focus on Specters, so only characters that belong to this faction are allowed. There are more applicable characters than you think! Check the Reference List

May I submit more than one work?  If, after the sign-up period is over, you would like to collaborate with a second submission, reach out to us. You may send different submission types if you want (e.g., 1 fanart and 1 fic). Please bear in mind the second character must still be available for you to take.

May I include other characters in my submission? Yes, as long as they belong to the Specter faction and there is a clear hierarchy where your chosen character is the main focus. Original Characters (OCs) may also be included as long as they follow this guideline. There is no problem if those secondary characters are already taken, or if the mix of characters would not make sense in the official material (for example, Shouichirou interacting with Vermeer). Please note that for characters who have worn a Surplice, only those with an Evil Star are considered Specters. Therefore, resurrected Saints, ROP Marina Generals and any applicable others are not allowed. For Hades Shun specifically, he should not be depicted wearing the Saint Cloths.

Orpheus, the Bronze Saints, Saori, Yuzuriha, Rugonis, Cattleya, Soujirou, Sasha, and Tenma can be referred to, but not appear in the fanwork. For example:

✅ Shouichirou looking at a picture of Soujirou / Yoruhime remembering a conversation with Cattleya ❌ Shouichirou and Soujirou during class / Yoruhime talking to Cattleya

Which Original Characters (OCs) are applicable? As long as they are not the main focus of your fanwork, OCs that are Specters (or serve under Hades in general), are welcomed in the zine. However, Saints, God Warriors, Marinas, and members of any other factions in Saint Seiya cannot be included.

The sign-up timeframe already passed. Can I still join? After this timeframe is concluded, no new submissions will be accepted.

May I use spinoff characters? Sure! All characters officially included in the Saint Seiya universe for the Specter faction (refer to list previously provided) are applicable. Please note that even though there are characters with different versions across the franchise (e.g., Minos), they are not counted as different options for the Zine, so if said character is already taken, no other version of them will be available.  

I changed my mind about the character I chose, and the new one is still available. Can I switch? To prevent confusion and misunderstandings, all character selections are final and cannot be changed/traded.

Am I allowed to change certain aspects of a character’s official design? It depends on the aspect, and should be reviewed case-by-case.

Example 1: as a Latin American, Niobe could differ in skin tone to the one seen on the official materials. However, characters like Pharaoh, who has a darker skin tone, should not be given a lighter one.

Example 2: if due to a personal headcanon, you believe a character has a certain scar or marking that is not seen in official materials, it can be included, but once again, please reach out to Staff for a case-by-case review.

What is the difference between an Alternate Universe [AU] and a Crossover? Some AU use popular tropes as a base, while a Crossover uses an already existing material as base. Examples:

Popular tropes for an AU: magic school, space fantasy/sci-fi

Existing material: Twisted Wonderland, Mass Effect [games], Little Witch Academia, Star Trek [series], Heralds of Valdemar, Dune [books]

So making a fanwork of the general "Saint Seiya × Magic School" or “Saint Seiya x space fantasy/sci-fi” concepts is an AU, but "Saint Seiya × Twisted Wonderland" or “Saint Seiya x Star Trek” are considered a crossover. In essence, heavy references to other existing fandoms are not allowed.

Could you please elaborate on what is/isn’t considered Not Safe For Work (NSFW)? If it is not appropriate for a general, non-specialized office work environment, then it is not accepted.

Examples: ✅ Blood depictions/mentions of it ❌ Graphic/detailed gore, mutilation, or body horror  ✅ Sensual themes (e.g., pin up) ❌ Sexual themes (including, but not limited to: genitalia, specifically erotic gestures like blowjob, etc.)

May I switch from one contribution type to another (ex: fanart to fic) after I signed up? To prevent confusion and misunderstandings, all contribution type selections are final.

I’m a writer! What is an acceptable image for the credits page? You can send an official StS work, fanarts (as long as it is made by, gifted to, or commissioned by you), or a picrew-generated image (as long as the picrew allows that use)

May I include a watermark on my submission? Yes, we encourage you to submit already watermarked fanworks to the zine, but it is not mandatory.

Do I have to send something for the check-ins? Nope. Our check-ins act as reminders only so you know exactly how much time you have left to send your submission.

I’m unable to complete my submission and would like to withdraw. Is that okay? Yes, you can withdraw at any time, for any reason (you don’t need to explain). Please just let us know in advance.

17. What is something you recently felt proud of in your writing?

I've recently been getting comments saying I made people laugh and I'm so pleased I've managed that, because I've always imagined it'd just be me chortling to myself in a corner over my ridiculous mental images haha

20. Share your favorite kiss scene from [insert fic]. If there's no kiss scene, share your favorite moment of intimacy (romantic or platonic)

My mind immediately went back to More Than Riches and Muscle for this which I think might be my magnum opus. But it's actually not the kisses that are my favourite, it's the tender not-kisses in between, like

If even this much was unexpected, however, then what truly threw him was the way Gale eventually ceased kissing and instead gently nuzzled his nose with their own, touching their foreheads together while their arms wrapped around him properly. As they embraced for a long few moments, January scrabbled for a coherent thought amongst the shards of his entirely blown mind.

There was nothing particularly seductive about the way Gale carefully cradled the back of his head, carding fingers through his hair. This was not the script of a drunk, celebratory one-night stand, or even the desperate passion of someone who knows their time is quickly approaching its end. This felt like… something else.

23. What’s a story you’d love to write but haven’t even started yet?

I reeaally love "there was only one bed" fics but I can't come up with a solid enough excuse for Jan & Gale to have no choice but to share a bed. so that one just stays vaguely floating around in my head forever

“Let me just—”

“Okay, fine, but I’m taking this away.” He leans down and scoops the mug back up. “I’m fully prepared to drink it myself if my efforts are going to be ignored. In fact, I’m already starting to look forward to it—”

He gets only one step away before Gale says, “Wait.” January pauses, looking back to find them twisted in their seat, gaze imploring. “It—it has tiny marshmallows on it.”

WinterIron Gets It Done Bingo [WIGID] 

This new WinterIron Discord server event runs on a monthly basis as a flash bingo with a content creation card and an engagement card - got a Blackout for October & November but missed out on December.   Hopefully January will be a more successful writing month.  

* Dec1 - Handle With Care -  Posted A Way with Words here on Tumblr as a crossover with the FlfC Day 23: Confessions   and BBB U5- Secret Admirer squares, along with   It’s a high school AU where Bucky gets a poem from his secret admirer; Steve has his suspicions as to who the author is.  It came in at 550 words. 

* Dec2 - Cold Toes - Posted On Frozen Pond  here on Tumblr as a crossover with the FlfC Alt2 prompt Fallen Through The Ice  - Tony’s lack of winter outdoor savvy gets him in (minor) trouble, but Bucky comes to the rescue.  It came in at 238 words.

Another writing challenge that I kind of forgot I signed up for!  This one is a bit complicated - check out the Tumblr blog for more info.  Ended up with seven fills posted of the 12 combos on the card – I have ideas for a couple more and may end up writing them at some point.

It’s a WinterIron one shot where Tony is about to make another bad decision when he’s interrupted by a four-footed interloper - eventually finding his way to his neighbor’s door.  It came in at 571 words.

* Full House: Family, Adventure, Road Trip, Mix-Up, Surprise – Tony, Pepper and Harley, Peter and Morgan  rent what turns out to be a duplex vacation home -  Steve, Bucky and Sam have the other half. 

* Large Straight: One Night Stand, Condoms, Kink Discovery, Middle of Night, Sub space – Bucky and Tony hookup - Tony tells Bucky not to bother with condoms,  he insists and Tony gets all subby;  Bucky discovers he likes domming,  and Tony goes into subspace.  

* Yahtzee: Morning Sex, Quickie, Kneeling, Untouched, Caught -  Posted Caught Red (and White) Handed  to Ao3 as part of the Wanksmas Smubbles challenge. It’s an   established Stucky PWP one shot –  After an erotic dream, Bucky gets caught masturbating; Steve tells him to finish and then prep himself for morning sex.  It came in at 607 words.

Bucky Barnes Bingo - Round Six [BBB - R6]  (Ends 31 Mar)

This amazing bingo event from the folks over at @buckybarnesbingo is still in progress.  I have twenty-four  fills  and six bingoes with one WIP at the moment, and a couple  more crossovers planned to hopefully get a blackout.  

* U3 - Yelena Belova  - Magica and I are circling back around to Peresmešnik, (aka Three Avengers and a Baby) - with the next chapter featuring Tony’s interactions with Mirriam, and a revelation about her parentage. I’ve written 313 of the 560 words in this chapter so far - it needs about 500 more words before we’ll be ready to post - maybe sometime  next  month?   

*  K2 - IMAGE: Bucky and Steve in Siberian silo hallway (CA:CW)  - Combined this with the Flash Fiction Friday prompt  [#FFF269 Living Weapon]  for  Reconstruction - a fix-it/canon divergent ficlet where Steve, Bucky and Tony team up instead of fighting.   It came in at 268 words and will get posted  to Ao3 before the event is over.   

* U5 - Secret Admirer - see WIGID Dec1 - Handle With Care above. 

* Adoptable Nov - Canon: Animated Series - I picked this up intending to do something with the What If … Captain Carter were the First Avenger? episode from Season One,  but  Season 3’s  What If… The Red Guardian Stopped the Winter Soldier?  is the perfect fanfic fodder.  I plan on keeping my fic platonic between Alexie and the Soldier, but there will be some shenanigans… 

Tony Stark Bingo - Mark VIII [TSB_R8]  (Ends 31 May)

This amazing bingo event from the folks over at @tonystarkbingo is also still open for pre-made card signups, I believe. I have  twenty-two squares filled, five bingos with no  WIPs  at the moment, but more crossovers planned.

* S1 - Bodyguard - filled this with A Dark and Stormy Knight - a vaguely medieval AU WinterIron AU double drabble which crossed over with the Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF276 Dark and Stormy Night]. It came in at 200 words and will get posted on Ao3 at some point.  

* K1 - old team - filled this with  No Pie for Justin Hammer - Tony Stark Bingo Mark VIII Round Robin, November 2024 - Tony hanging out with Pepper, Happy and Rhodey at a diner in Delaware.   My part came in at 308 words and it should be posted sometime soon.

* A3 - Road Trip - Used this prompt towards Chapter Five of  Half of the Flesh and Blood That Makes Me Whole - where Bucky returns from a self-assigned mission and gets to know Tony a little better.   It came in at 1560 words.

But beneath the façade of pure charm was a mischievous Fett. And she was not going to fall for it the third time running.

I don’t know how long it will be until she’s critical.” “Fives and Achilles should be at your location in less than five minutes. I’ve asked Dusckie to get the bomb squad prepped and one of the LAATs down here ready for extraction prep. Hold on tight in there, alright?” “Yes, Sir.” He heard then, the sound of Clankers in the vents. Rex looked back at Nia, settling her into a better position before reaching for his DC17s, searching through his visor for her eyes. “You’re going to make it, Nia.” He pressed his forehead to hers. “I promise.”

It was hard to choose but this part from aitwys (ch33) warms my heart:

She used the fingers in his hair to tug his head back, forcing him to look into her eyes. “It isn’t,” she insisted. She tried to find the words to voice it - the feeling inside her that she had to make him understand. “And I’m not leaving. This is not…” the hazel in his eyes was dark in the dim car, the moon serving as their only light. “This isn’t an ending,” she finally said, the words coming to her like a revelation. “This is a beginning.” His eyes widened at that before they squinted, the result of a smile filling his face.  “Be patient,” he said quietly as he kissed her jawline, “I might need you to remind me of that, occasionally.” She couldn’t nod, so she just smiled, knowing he’d feel her face twisting underneath his lips. “Promise.”

Other than the final 2(!) chapters of aitwys, I have some other wips I'm considering to start working on, but nothing solid just yet.

Sooo... what's Rich Boys Don't Stink?

...so remember the ad for Adrien, the Fragrance? 😂 This one is partially because of that and partially because our current building has no air, and summers at work are awful, and Luka rides a bike delivering pizza look me in the eye and tell me he doesn't sweat/stink.

I don't have actual fic, just a summary/notes of where I was going. 😂

I have the Girl Squad meeting at the Liberty to plot the latest Adrienette Matchmaking Scheme. It's in the middle of a heatwave, and they go to the boat bc the river's cooler. Except they're still waiting on Marinette to get there & they don't know Dingo's also there waiting for Luka.

And Alya read this article about pheramones/Teen Boy Sweat & has some bogus bs plan about using that to finally get Adrienette together, and "Rose tell them I'm right it's SCIENCE", but Alix snarks about how Adrien doesn't sweat (and if he does it probably smells like Adrien, the Fragrance”), which is around when Dingo's like "yeah don't trust a guy who don't sweat" bc he can't listen to this crap anymore.

Which leads to Dingo getting into a fight with Alya about the matchmaking, and Alya is insistent, but even the other girls are like "but she doesn't seem interested in Adrien anymore?" But Alya is her best friend & Knows, right?

Anyway. What Alya doesn't know is that Mari's late bc all week she's been meeting up with Luka while he's making his deliveries to bring him cold water. And I'm thinking Mari & Lu arrive back at the boat together (maybe she met him at work and he gives her a ride back so they can hang?), but the others hear them laughing/Mari shrieking before M/L realize they're there. Bc she dumps water on his head & he shakes it off on her like a dog & they're just being disgustingly cute. And Dingo just smirks at Alya & tells her what Mari's been doing, bc it's hot & Lulu's a growing boy & he's Thirsty.

And it all ends with Luka & Mari kissing & Alya losing her gorram mind & Dingo going, "I knew this & you didn't does that make me more of her best friend than you?"

Guardianofrivendell 2022 followers celebration

A genuine thank you to each and every one of you, all my lovely followers, my mutuals, my friends. I’m still so very grateful for all of you and when I started this sideblog back in the summer of 2020, I never would have guessed it would take off like this.

I met so many new friends, learned a lot about the fandom and writing and slowly started to find my place into this hellsite. I couldn’t have done this without you! 

I want to give a special thanks to @acahope311​ @laurfilijames​ @lathalea​ @xxbyimm​ because they are the ones who usually put up with my nagging and complaining, and always manage to get me back up again and give me the confidence and pat on the back (or necessary kick in the butt) to get going again. I love you! 

So as a thank you I thought it would be fun to host another celebration/sleepover/whatever you want to call it!

Based on this ask game going around but I figured I'd just answer all the questions for fun!  All 30 answers under the cut.

1. How many words have you written this year? 42,048 on AO3, and I have another 20k or so that's not published yet

2. How many works did you publish this year?  10, which includes my Yuletide fic that's not revealed yet but not my consent issues fics which aren't quite done, and I guess also includes the ones I wrote for holiday stuff last year that got posted on like Jan 1.

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)? how many spruces grow on the moon?

4. What work of yours has the most hits? workout

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected? definitely also "how many spruces grow on the moon" because it's such a niche rarepair!

6. Favorite title you used this is also how many spruces grow on the moon lol

7. If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most? actually none of my titles are song lyrics for this year

8. Pairing you wrote the most for this year?  I didn't write much this year but I did two for Aho/Jarvis so that's the winner

9. Favorite pairing you wrote for this year?  ...that's also gonna be Aho/Jarvis based on what I've written so far I think.

10. What work was the quickest to write?  escape because it's like 300 words I splatted into a tumblr post

11. What work took you the longest to write?  hmmm, I'm not sure!  I think it was either team bonding or workout because it's always hard to manage that many characters together

12. How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?  well, I have two that are nearly done that I'm planning to post for consent issues so those will be this year but also revealing like Jan 1, and I have one hockey wip that I would like to not abandon since I put so much work into it already but idk if it'll happen.

13. What’s your longest work of the year? team bonding at 10,130, but one of my wips for consent issues is longer

14. What’s your shortest work of the year? escape at 362

15. What WIP are you taking into next year with you?  I guess the Aho/Jarvis omegaverse wip that I haven't finished?  I don't know if I will finish it or not though, but it's not getting done this year for sure.

16. What’s your most common “Additional Tags” tag?  Apparently it is "2021-2022 NHL Season"

17. Your favorite character to write this year?  I am having a blast writing Tim Stoker right now so it's gonna be him at the moment.

18. The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?  Roope Hintz for sure, idk why I had trouble with him!

19. What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?  Jon/Martin for TMA, although I feel like I'll end up writing weird stuff that's just about one of them or the other but with that as a background throughline?  idk we'll see

20. Which work of yours have you reread the most?  ngl it's probably workout

21. How many kudos in total did you get this year?  702 on fics that were written this year, I'm not sure how to calculate how many I got on older fics during this year

22. Which work has the most comments?  how many spruces grow on the moon

23. Did you do any collaborative works this year?  well the actual real book I self-pubbed was a collaboration, but I don't think that counts?  All my fanfic is like a pseudo-collab between me and the people I complain to about it constantly while I'm writing lol

24. Did you write any gifts this year?  Yes!  This year almost all my fic was gifts actually.  Of the 10 that are in AO3, 4 of them are gifts, and my two that are finishing up for consent issues will also be gifts.

25. Did you receive any gifts this year?  Yup!  4-5 depending how you count Dec 31/Jan 1 posting dates.

26. What’s your most common category?  M/M

27. What do you listen to while writing? nothing usually, maybe hockey on the tv in the background lol

28. Favorite work you wrote this year?  it's gonna be how many spruces grow on the moon, I felt like it was a fun concept to base it on Duolingo, and a cute little romance and like....not coming-of-age exactly but kind of?  and it was much better received than I expected given that it inaugurated the ship tag.

29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?  Martin telling Jon "I've never been afraid of you watching me" in see you later because I'm obsessed with it as a character beat

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?  I guess the biggest surprise of the year is finding a new fandom?  Or maybe the fact that I randomly wrote a Stargate Atlantis fic in the middle of this year sometime, definitely wasn't expecting to do that!  Also the good reception for my Aho/Jarvis fics, that was a nice surprise.

Artists won’t be asked to hand any art in until March 12 and even then, it doesn’t have to be finished, just a draft or outline so that the writers have an idea of what their choices are!

The final deadline (for both the art and the fics) is April 30

Jan 25 - Feb 15: Sign-ups are open for all roles

Feb 16-19: First email is sent out for all participants, verifying that they are still interested. Artists begin thinking of an idea.

Feb 26: Cheerleaders will be assigned to writers and artists.

March 5: First Check In for Artists. Nothing needs to be handed in, we will send out an email with a survey to see how artists are doing and if they are on track with their art and if they need additional help.

March 12: First Draft is Due. We need a visual WIP - it can be a sketch, a basic outline for an edit, or a preview of a video. More details will be coming soon.

March 15: Writers will get their chance to pick out their top 3 picks for the artworks they want to make fic for.

March 22: Writers will be matched with their artist.

March 23: A spreadsheet with betas will be sent out to writers in order for them to contact for additional support.

April 19: Second Check In for Artists, First Check In for Writers. Are you going to be ready to post your fic/art?

April 30: Final Fic & Art are due

May 1: Reveals begin!
