I know some ppl in the BUCCHIGIRI?! community would disagree with me (or jump on me as a worst case scenario) but…
I truly feel sorry for Jabashiri as a whole cuz way back in Episode 2, he was kind of setup to be Matakara’s bitter and unequal rival.
I mean look at his design:
And then you compare it to Matakara’s:
Right there, you can see the obvious differences:
Design:
- Jabashiri has short blue hair and Matakara’s has orange-brown short but fluffy hair.
- Jabashiri wears his piercings on his left ear while Matakara wore his on the right.
Personality:
- Jabashiri likes to revel in violence but deep down, he has shown to have a honorable and caring side of him if him going up against a nameless Minato Kai grunt is of any indication after he and everyone else assumed that the latter group was responsible for Outa’s injury (when in actuality it was NG Boys) whereas Matakara is a caring and honorable person upfront but won’t hesitate to use violence.
- How both reacted to the truth of NG Boys being behind the Gang Wars: Matakara noticed Zabu being distressed and after the latter revealed that he recklessly challenged Akutaro, Matakara doesn’t blame Zabu at all and set out to confront the root of the problem itself. Jabashiri on the other hand was unaware of the truth and went ahead with the Gang War until Arajin brought in the NG Boys and both he and all of the gang members involved in it are shown the truth.
I can’t find anything they have in common other than having older brothers (Jabashiri’s bio reveals that he has a mum, dad and big brother) but we don’t know anything about Jabashiri’s relationship with his older brother while we are shown some aspects of Matakara’s relationship with Mitsukuni (whether or not Matakara is idealizing Mitsukuni and the latter is not how the former think he is would be another situation altogether)
I know it’s not a whole lot but long story short: I wish that Jabashiri and Matakara should’ve been each other’s foils.
Thanks for coming to my TEDTalk on why the writers sort of failed to capitalise and invest on this rivalry.
Hello! So like I've been having that Lights, Camera, Sing Your Sins AU rent free in my head for a while, and thought this up.
Since the prisoners weren't allowed to meet at first, they could hear the others practicing their singing nearby/next door. Some are awed by how passionate they put into their songs (eg: Haruka & Shidou), how into it (eg: Fuuta & Kotoko), how emotional (eg: Kazui), etc. This allowed the prisoners to imagine what the others are like.
...Then there's Mikoto with Red going all out with their MeMe song and it stunned everyone into silent fear until the prisoners meet him and go "YOU SANG THAT!?!"
I've been going so so crazy over this omg!!
No matter how big the facilities are, I'd imagine it would be difficult to keep ten people undergoing a full filming process completely separate from each other. Though they don't actually see each other, they overhear recording booth sessions while while walking down the hall. They spot unique outfits and props in the costume closet. They hear crew members giving Jackalope weird updates ("sir, where do you want the massive tarot cards when they're finished?" "the order of thousands of fake flowers has arrived" "we ran out of medieval outfits" etc.) They see teams lugging around massive set pieces from one stage to another. They hear a few hushed rehearsals from behind dressing room doors.
Mahiru totally tears up listening to Kazui. Meanwhile Kazui is blown away by Mahiru's enthusiasm and speed. Yuno thinks After Pain sounds really fun. Amane is awed at the other songs, (she's never even heard rock music before). Kotoko finds herself singing bits of Weakness. Muu is moved by Shidou. Fuuta is torn between being jealous of Mikoto's song and excited there's someone else with some yelling.
And so of course, the prisoners go crazy trying to piece together predictions about their upcoming cellmates. One the experiment begins, they subconsciously start matching up the voices they remembered hearing with their expectations. I think Shidou, Amane, and Kotoko would surprise people the most -- it seems hard hard to get a day-to-day read on them from their songs alone. Fuuta is simultaneously exactly what people were expecting and nothing like what they thought. Everyone's ideas of Mahiru were spot on. Haruka sang so confidently that the group is surprised to hear him stutter so often. Anyone who heard a bit of Meme is shocked when they meet Mikoto and make the connection. When asked about it, he just shrugs and laughs innocently, which only makes it harder to believe. Fuuta, excited to find someone else who did a rock song, is sorely disappointed at first.
The way I love a spin-off paranormal/urban fantasy series of a more popular paranormal/urban fantasy series that’s set after the events of the first series with different characters and the female protagonist only featured in the last book or last couple of books of the original series but developed a friendship with the female lead of the og series in them, and the spin off is set in California where there’s a murder mystery going on and the main couple is a blonde girl with brown eyes and a brunette boy with green eyes who paints, and their love is forbidden because of the fantastical government which the storyline/themes are extremely critical of and also there’s familial/psuedo-familial drama and exploration of parts of the magical lore of the world the og series didn’t get into as much (witchcraft/alchemy for bl faeries for tda).
Gotta love how there’s two characters voiced by Dan Povenmire who have brown hair, are short compared to other characters, relatable to people who have autism & ADHD, somehow involved with time travel, and commonly headcanoned to be trans and not straight

9.) what’s a podcast that you know the characters so well you can recognize their breathing?
Probably wbg, I feel like I can tell Most of the mikes apart with very little voice lines, possibly breathing lmao. Also malevolent/deviser but I feel like that’s an expected answer
