geto’s downfall (unfinished)

a/n — hi guys!! sorry for disappearing suddenly. i made this fic ages ago, the plot being geto and how the whole backstory arc would effect him and his s/o with a heavenly restriction (like toji’s) knowing how his views on those without cursed energy changed.

i grew disinterested with the fic and jjk overall (dw, the hyper-fixation comes and goes) but i still wanted to post what i had already written, so here you go. i may or may not complete it one day, but who knows.

the world is a cruel, unjust place. 

“riko… let’s go home.” 

“yeah!” as the young girl spoke her final words, instantaneously receiving a bullet to the head, oblivious and unaware. 

the scene was too sudden to comprehend – with one moment filled with a heartfelt conversation, and the next with the murder of an innocent child. 

geto didn’t even have time to react, his face still stuck in a pleasant smile before realising what just had occurred. with the boy’s body still and unmoving, his eyes followed the direction of where the younger girl had collapsed and took residence on her newly lifeless body.

her eyes lacked the warmth of a soul, as they stared into nothingness. her crimson blood oozed from the bullet wound on her head. it was splattered sporadically along the concrete floor, which was eventually to be forever stained with her remnants and what went down that night. 

“riko?” was all that he could muster.

he noticed a large man carrying a gun stalking into the light, yet he was confused as to why he couldn’t sense him or his cursed energy. as far as he was familiar with, the only person he knew that lacked the presence of cursed energy was y/n.  the man spoke some words but all geto could hear was the ringing of his ears and a slight buzzing noise. 

with no regard to what the man was previously saying, the boy asked one question, “why… why are you here?” 

“why…?” the unknown entity pondered for a moment, “oh, gotcha.” 

“i killed gojo satoru.”

“is that so?” an unforgiving fury envelops the raven haired sorcerer as he summons his two strongest curses, rainbow dragon and kuchisake-onna, “then die.”

the rainbow dragon bursts through the walls, scattering heaps of debris and rubble everywhere. it catches the man in its protruding jaw and soars across the air, sending gusts of wind throughout the chamber. 

the man hangs from the dragon's mouth and shoots a few bullets directed towards the sorcerer with an absurd level of pinpoint accuracy. 

at this, geto quickly summons a small curse between his hands to shield himself from the incoming bullets. he dispels the curse and soars downwards towards the destruction in a ravenous manner.

landing in the corridor, he abruptly spins and watches as the rainbow dragon fades away. the chiselled man rested a hand on his hip, with the other holding his gun at his side. he bore a wicked grin and simply said, “don’t be so impatient.”

he turns to the side and begins to take slow strides, explaining something that geto had no choice but to listen to with a furious scowl on his face. he matches the slow pace that the opposing man took and walks with him from a large distance. 

one thing the man says particularly catches geto’s attention. “...and since i have no cursed energy, i’m like an invisible man.” 

‘just like y/n then… so he’s bound by a heavenly restriction too, huh?’ he didn’t fail to notice that toji was as fast as shit — obviously due to the physical empowerments he was gifted in exchange for his cursed energy. the same stuff applied for y/n too, and he could see the uncanny resemblance. the way they both moved so effortlessly – as if they were one with the wind. judging from the man’s monstrous build and heavenly pact, he could already assume that he’d have a sinister and terrifying strength to him. another thing he and y/n had resemblance in. 

and it was true, he was an invisible man. geto wasn’t able to sense him, despite the fact the man was around 10 feet away from him. he should’ve fucking known. he has experience in dealing with those without cursed energy – his girlfriend – so why? why was he so fucking useless? an innocent child wouldn’t have lost a life today if he had attuned to his senses a little more.

geto was livid.

the man says something about how wielding a cursed tool reveals his presence, but geto already knew about that. y/n taught him most of the basics and what there was to know about her and her heavenly restriction. it was a curse and a blessing. 

he had enough of the man’s blabbing and raised both of his hands. his dominant hand took position in the form of a finger gun, with the other hand situating itself underneath the ‘gun’ as a form of support. his hand illuminated a bright blue and he aimed upwards to where the man was. a bunch of small, squid-like curses shot from the barrel of the ‘gun’ and crashed into the ceiling.

the sorcerer lowers his hands and stares expectantly at the area he shot. his eyes widen as hears a voice from behind him, “now, there’s more to this story.” again, he jolts and abruptly turns to the source of the noise. 

he points towards his open mouth and continues, “see, i keep a cursed spirit capable of storing objects around.” he begins his slow stride once more and geto follows the action, “so i usually put my cursed tools in it when i’m walking around.” 

geto locks a hawk-like gaze onto the man and the man reciprocates – but instead with a lazy, careless one. he was smirking as if he greatly enjoyed this whole endeavour. 

“now i know what you’re thinking… shouldn’t the cursed energy from the spirit make him no longer invisible?” the sorcerer remains silent. this was unfamiliar to him, and you’ve never tried anything like it. to find a cursed spirit that is able to hold an inventory of weapons is… not unheard of, but rare. and yes, he did wonder as to why the spirit didn’t reveal the man’s presence, since it was indeed a curse.

geto’s train of thought suddenly stops as he watches the man throw something up. he bore a look of deep-rooted disgust on his face as he witnessed the scene in front of him.

in his palm, lay a small, ugly curse drenched in slobber. 

“the spirit shrinks by storing itself within its own body.” the man says, holding intense eye contact with the young sorcerer, “then i ingest it and keep it inside my stomach.”

that’s all he needed to know in order to connect the dots; and for the rest of the rambling, he didn’t care. the longer he stared at him, the more bile raised at his throat. his anger was accumulating just from the look on his face. 

and at the very back of his mind, another source of anger derived from the chaos and damage he managed to bring – despite not having any cursed energy…

he knew it was wrong to think that, after all, his girlfriend didn’t possess any cursed energy either; and he loved her so dearly. however… he felt the phenomenon to be… unnatural. actually, it was unnatural. how is it possible for one to not bear the power of cursed energy be so destructive? 

suddenly, he felt disgusted. he shouldn’t be thinking that. y/n isn’t unnatural, for god's sake! she’s perfect, funny, and powerful. the hideous man in front of him is the one to be blamed. he’s the one who killed riko, the one who killed satoru… the boy swallows and tries to bury the thought at the back of his mind.

“...reveal myself to the six eyes…” 

the sorcerer had enough. “shut up!” he yelled, enraged, “it’s a heavenly restriction, i know that! and like us, revealing certain information can give you an advantage. i’m aware of that too!” 

geto didn’t want to hear about the heavenly restriction, he was well versed in that subject. what he wanted to know was how on earth the man knew about the entrance into the tombs. he begins to ask about it, but then a realisation occurs. 

‘heavenly restriction… enhanced senses, right? those with heavenly pacts are able to sense things the average human can not. we must have left traces like footprints, and odor. for fucks sake…’

it must have shown on his face – a grimace, due to his daunting findings, for the man opposite him bore a devilish grin.

“i see that you have the answer. humans leave many more traces than just cursed energy, ya know. i also see that you’re quite knowledgeable regarding heavenly restrictions. why is that?” 

“like hell i’d tell you. scum.” 

“could it be… that you're familiar with someone who bears the same curse as me? an acquaintance, a friend?” he drawled and his grin grew larger, “perhaps a partner?” 

his hand glows once more, and he launches a curse towards the large man. the rainbow dragon tunnels through the countless thin doors and soars upwards – not without capturing the man in its mouth.

once more, he summons a dozen small curses, erupting from miniature black holes in the sky. they project towards the rainbow dragon and the heavenly restricted man, appearing as though they were quantities of blue laser beams. 

the man soared in the air as if he belonged in the sky, effortlessly dodging and deflecting the hundreds of attacks barreling towards him with his weapon – not without a sinister grin present on his face. 

he flips backwards and lands on top of a roof, causing the bricks underneath to crumble from the sheer force of his landing. 

geto crouches down and summons another curse. a gigantic one, at that. it erupts from below his opponent, causing him to lose his purchase and soar into the air once more. he seemingly does a flip amidst the air – which unnerved geto, since there was no footing to pull a stunt like that.

the man lands onto the thick, old rope that was intertwined around the large tree of tengen’s chamber. he evades the barrage of attacks sent by the young sorcerer, as if were an animal relying on pure primal instinct. how could a human possibly be capable of this?  

he jumps into the sky and unsheathes his large sword, swinging it in the sky. suddenly, he’s splitting the rainbow dragon open, dragging his weapon through the tough scales of its hide, an act that is almost deemed impossible. it’s purple blood splatters everywhere, raining down of the world below it.

the sorcerer’s eyes widen, and he’s immensely taken aback. 

‘the rainbow dragon has the toughest hide there is! how the hell…?’’ 

to geto’s chagrin, he again couldn’t help but notice the everlasting similarities you and the man held. it was eerie. the sense of deja vu was strong, and geto felt lightheaded. he had been in this position before – with you airborne and elegant, deflecting his multitudes of attacks ever so effortlessly. of course, this battle was not taken in a serious manner – it merely being some sort of training regime.

he remembers the times you’ve been able to slash and hack curses that bore the toughest skin with the utmost efficiency, the resemblance with the man uncanny.

his thoughts beginning to intrude in his mind, he wonders if you would ever be capable of wreaking mayhem like the murderer before him had done. his heart rate speeds up and he feels sick, the disgusting thoughts invading geto’s mind and etching onto each of his brain cells. he pleads for these thoughts to go away, yet they don’t – and he is distracted.

the rainbow dragon tumbles and descends into the ground due to the massive injury it had suffered – with it practically being split open. rubble flies everywhere but the sorcerer and the murderer are unphased, gravely facing towards each other amidst the chaos that reigned upon them.

January Romance

hello friends i have not slowed down, and perhaps i have maybe even sped up. in the. shotgunning queer romance novels department.

i am mostly on a hockey kick lately. i know nothing about hockey. i have probably watched a grand total of 5 minutes of hockey in my life. i do not care about any sports at all. but i figured that if i can get invested in a sports movie without caring about the sports part (such as Hoosiers (1986) or A League of Their Own (1992)), i could get invested in a sports romance novel without caring about the sports part. and i was correct. thank fuck, bc i think i've read all of the historical romances that there are.

nothing i read this month was like. perfect. it's very hard to measure up to my KJ Charles faves. but there was still some good shit!

Hockey Ever After Series (Winging It, Scoring Position, and Unrivaled by Ashlyn Kane and Morgan James- each book follows a different couple. the characters are so good and well fleshed-out, the team dynamics are fun, the plots are engaging, and the sex is hot. you really don't have to know anything about hockey (especially if you start with the 2022 edition of Winging It, which is definitely, definitely the correct choice), but also apparently their hockey shit is pretty accurate, which i always appreciate. overall, the complete package.

 ●Undressing the Duke by Erica Ridley (a duke falls in love with his valet who is also his best friend. couldn't finish it. i know KJ Charles has me spoiled for historical accuracy, but i yelled 'WHAT!!!' so many times at so many things that i finally gave up. also it's just not very good in any of the other respects.)  ●The Campion Square series by Adella J Harris (three romances taking place in the same little neighborhood. the series is essentially just sweet and sedate and wholesome, and there is nothing wrong with it, but it did not make me feel a single emotion. the definition of 'okay'.)     ○Mr. Wilkins and the Lodger     ○Mr. Montague and the Pineapple     ○Mr. Jenkins and the Necklace  ●Best Laid Plaids by Ella Stainton (simply not that good, and not even in a fun way.)  ●Mr Warren's Profession by Sebastian Nothwell (clueless son of a wealthy baronet falls for an impoverished clerk. it's nothing special and requires so very much suspension of disbelief that it stops being fun.)  ●One Night in Hartswood by Emma Denny (it has its problems and isn't going to make the faves list, but is basically a lovely and heartfelt romance. two men who don't know each other's identities travel together through the winter. requires a normal-mid amount of suspension of disbelief.)

 ●Him series by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy (guy falls in love with his straight best friend in high school and cuts him out of his life. they reconnect 4 years later for one last summer together. i loved 90% of the first book, but did not love the direction the authors take things. this series is a genre-wide favorite for tons of people though.)     ○Him     ○Us     ○Epic (novella)  ●On The Brink by Kate Willoughby (there's nothing fun wrong with it. it's just not good.)  ●Puckboys by Eden Finley and Saxon James (these are fine for what they are--just enough plot for hockey boys to have a lot of sex and fall in love, in that order. there are a ton more of these but i had no desire to keep going.)     ○Egotistical Puckboy     ○Irresponsible Puckboy  ●Light Up the Lamp by Kit Oliver (i cried my fucking eyes out. and then i listened to a bunch of songs that i knew would make it hit harder and i cried some more. the writing is... not that bad but also not that good. the premise destroyed me. childhood best friends who fall in love and then life takes them in different directions and they fuck it up so stupidly because they are nineteen years old. and then they go through life with this. chasm. where the love used to be. and then 15 years later they are forced to work together and they decide they will simply never speak of it even though they never resolved any of their shit and it is breaking them open. if you read this book you are contractually obligated to talk to me about it thanks!)     ○Biscuit in the Basket (epilogue novella)

 ●Hard Feelings by Ashlyn Kane and Morgan James (artist/graphic designer and software developer who can't stand each other are forced to work together, and they have a lot of hate sex about it. i do not think the authors know anything about design or coding. several parts of this book are cringe. it still had its moments that made my fucking chest hurt. possibly worth it just for that.)  ●The Rock Star's Guide to Getting Your Man by Ashlyn Kane (another one where a guy is in love with his straight childhood best friend. he goes back to his hometown 15 years later to hide from drama with his bandmates, and finds his former best friend still lives there. this one also made me cry, but mostly the dead dad parts. a little bit cheesy and awkward. some funny moments, and not, like, heavy, but also not exactly lighthearted. i appreciated the fact that most of the conflict was with the band and not with the love interest.)  ●The Inside Edge by Ashlyn Kane (tv cohosts who annoy each other and bicker on-screen -> casual sex -> fake dating -> real dating. just a delightful little bonbon of a romance. does go zero-to-i-love-you, which is a pet peeve, but you can't have everything in life.)  ●All the Right Notes by Dominic Lim (composer's dad asks him to come home and put on a charity performance, and to convince a former classmate, now a famous movie star, to perform in it. nice amount of focus on the asian family dynamics without being too heavy-handed. engaging story, and sweet, but clunky. it's a debut novel though, so i'm looking forward to seeing what else this author will put out in the future.)  ●Winter Ball by Amy Lane (i don't even know what to say about this book. i think it is from an alternate universe. the story and the dialogue both feel weirdly out of time, and the author uses phrases in the sex scenes that probably have never have never even been thought by another human. anyway it's about two best friends who discover their sexualities together, and decide to build a life together in spite of familial and societal disapproval.)  ●Iris Kelly Doesn't Date by Ashley Herring Blake (the third book in a series that unfortunately peaked at book 1. all of the things that were awkward about the first book have only become more pronounced as the series progresses. i gave this the old college try, but could not finish it.)  ●Date Me, Bryson Keller by Kevin van Whye (YA book wherein a popular boy agrees to pretend to date his gay classmate for a week. it is. not well-written, but it is basically a sweet story.)  ●The Best Men by Sarina Bowen and Lauren Blakely (this one just felt aggressively like a book by straight women for straight women. also they didn't do the anal research. also also they didn't research the jobs they gave their main characters.)  ●Top Secret by Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowen (what if you were a straight guy in college and you were anonymously sexting another guy to set up the threesome your girlfriend requested. and then it turned out you were really into him. and then it also turned out he was the guy in your frat house that you hate. would that be fucked up hot or what. i will not lie to you, this book is kind of cringe. like one of the main characters insists approximately 500 times that he's only sexually experimenting because he's a scientist and it's scientific. but it's still fun and i still enjoyed it. there's also a bonus epilogue available.)  ●Heels Over Head by Elyse Springer (incredibly repressed olympic diver falls for his new teammate. full of heartache and shitty families and tenderness and choosing joy.)

Anyways, this is for my latest FranMaya fic ‘my blood is red and unafraid of living’ and I have a whole fucking iceberg’s worth of lore for the fic. For those that may want to read it, after reading this lore drop, the link will be in the replies!

What you need to know about the fic: Maya is a Fandom Old and has been writing Steel Samurai and Pink Princess fanfics for a decade and is best friends with SteelEdge92, her biggest fan and beta reader (who is of course, just Miles Edgeworth, but neither of them have realized who the other is bc they’re dumb and it’s really funny to me).

Now, without further ado, the Lore:

Interestingly enough, Maya and Miles online friendship started off rocky and adversarial. Maya got into writing fanfiction after the Will Powers case, writing about the Pink Princess as a way to work through all the big feeling she was having after that case. Maya managed to grab the username ‘TheRealPinkPrincess’ since she learned about Pink so early. 

Essentially Maya wrote the Pink Princess as a self insert and very Mary Sue like, added a bunch of OCs (including a big sister of the Pink Princess, that Pink was able to save at the very last minute from a murder plot) and wrote Steel as Pink Princess’s gay best friend, writing something that was rather stereotypical, but not purposefully cruel, about gay men.

Maya was 17, had never written before, and was struggling with her sudden realization that she might be into women too (Penny Nichols made her start questioning herself), and that felt terrifying to consider the implications of, so writing Steel x Magistrate felt like a safer way to explore same sex attraction, than by writing Pink liking a woman.

Miles fell back into the Steel Samurai fandom around the same time (which he had been secretly apart of for a long time, but super deep in the repression) and stumbled upon Maya’s fanfics, since she was writing about the new character. Of course, he was very snobbish about fanfiction at the time, and normally he would’ve ignored something like Maya’s fanfic, considering it childish and beneath him, but at that time in the fandom, there weren’t a lot of people writing Magisteel (there was a lot of homophobes claiming they could only be ‘just friends’) and so he tended to read anything with Magisteel content.

He sent her a scathing unasked for critique absolutely picking apart the fic and completely going off on her about her accuracy at writing gay men and the gay experience.

Which caused Maya to almost give up writing. (She continued out of spite.)

It wasn’t until after RFTA, while Miles was re-evaluating himself and his belief system that he realized that ‘TheRealPinkPrincess’ was barely an adult, struggling with her sexuality and he had been so cruel as to tear apart something that she worked on so earnestly, (realizing that he had treated her the way he was treated at that age, and it felt awful.)

He found Maya online and she hadn’t actually blocked him and he gave a sincere and heartfelt apology. And offered to help Maya write more accurate depictions of gay men if that was something she wanted, without expecting any forgiveness for hurting her. Maya forgave Steel and they started a very tentative friendship that only grew and deepened as the years went on, to the point that Miles eventually sent Maya a very heartful message about how much being her beta reader and friend helped him through difficult times.

As Maya got better at writing, she continued the same story (it’s been an overarching series of one-shots and multichapters since she started) fleshing out the world and becoming a beloved writer in the community (at least for some people.) Miles is her #1 dedicated fan at this point, especially bc she wrote a huge arc that was almost better than the show that explored in depth the Evil Magistrates trauma and struggles and ended with him healing and starting a relationship with the Steel Samurai. Miles sends her essays in the AO3 comments gushing about her work, and they frequently exceed the character limit.

And that is the entire Miles and Maya friendship iceberg from the fic!

Also, I know you didn’t ask about the Cody lore, but you are getting the Cody lore too astri, bc I love him (Cody Hackins plz return in AA7 all grown up).

So, Cody 1000% lied about his age and got a Tumblr when he was 11, I feel this in my bones, so that he could follow Maya and Maya realized right away it was him and adopted him as her fandom little brother. He would mail her his fanart and she would mail him her fanfics (edited for 11 year old sensibilities). And once Cody was older he started posting his fanart to Tumblr and amassing a large following of his own.

At 18, in the present time of the fic he is one of those ppl that logs on once a month, also leaves essay like comments on Maya’s stuff, drops a single piece of insanely detailed art and then disappears for another month.

And that’s the Cody lore.

And one last lore drop, this one is spoilers for after the fic:

After Maya explains to Fran what is going on, Fran does take a look at Tumblr to see if she can do anything about the rude comments Maya is getting and sees SteelEdge92 defending Maya and decides to take a look at his account and see the user Maya is always talking about as her best friend.

And then in 0.3 seconds she realizes with dawning horror that this is Miles Edgeworth’s Tumblr page, bc he hasn’t changed it since he was 13 and she accidentally caught a glimpse of it.

And that neither her wife or brother have at all realized that they’ve been best friends online for almost a decade.

And then she has to lie down.

Astri, I love you, thank you for letting me lore dump about my most recent FranMaya!

This is for the ‘director’s commentary ask game’, if you wanted to know lore or headcanons or whatever about a specific fanfic, just let me know which one in the ask box or send ⭐ and I’ll pick a fic to talk about!

Anyways, this is for my latest FranMaya fic ‘my blood is red and unafraid of living’ and I have a whole fucking iceberg’s worth of lore for the fic. For those that may want to read it, after reading this lore drop, the link will be in the replies!

What you need to know about the fic: Maya is a Fandom Old and has been writing Steel Samurai and Pink Princess fanfics for a decade and is best friends with SteelEdge92, her biggest fan and beta reader (who is of course, just Miles Edgeworth, but neither of them have realized who the other is bc they’re dumb and it’s really funny to me).

Now, without further ado, the Lore:

Interestingly enough, Maya and Miles online friendship started off rocky and adversarial. Maya got into writing fanfiction after the Will Powers case, writing about the Pink Princess as a way to work through all the big feeling she was having after that case. Maya managed to grab the username ‘TheRealPinkPrincess’ since she learned about Pink so early. 

Essentially Maya wrote the Pink Princess as a self insert and very Mary Sue like, added a bunch of OCs (including a big sister of the Pink Princess, that Pink was able to save at the very last minute from a murder plot) and wrote Steel as Pink Princess’s gay best friend, writing something that was rather stereotypical, but not purposefully cruel, about gay men.

Maya was 17, had never written before, and was struggling with her sudden realization that she might be into women too (Penny Nichols made her start questioning herself), and that felt terrifying to consider the implications of, so writing Steel x Magistrate felt like a safer way to explore same sex attraction, than by writing Pink liking a woman.

Miles fell back into the Steel Samurai fandom around the same time (which he had been secretly apart of for a long time, but super deep in the repression) and stumbled upon Maya’s fanfics, since she was writing about the new character. Of course, he was very snobbish about fanfiction at the time, and normally he would’ve ignored something like Maya’s fanfic, considering it childish and beneath him, but at that time in the fandom, there weren’t a lot of people writing Magisteel (there was a lot of homophobes claiming they could only be ‘just friends’) and so he tended to read anything with Magisteel content.

He sent her a scathing unasked for critique absolutely picking apart the fic and completely going off on her about her accuracy at writing gay men and the gay experience.

Which caused Maya to almost give up writing. (She continued out of spite.)

It wasn’t until after RFTA, while Miles was re-evaluating himself and his belief system that he realized that ‘TheRealPinkPrincess’ was barely an adult, struggling with her sexuality and he had been so cruel as to tear apart something that she worked on so earnestly, (realizing that he had treated her the way he was treated at that age, and it felt awful.)

He found Maya online and she hadn’t actually blocked him and he gave a sincere and heartfelt apology. And offered to help Maya write more accurate depictions of gay men if that was something she wanted, without expecting any forgiveness for hurting her. Maya forgave Steel and they started a very tentative friendship that only grew and deepened as the years went on, to the point that Miles eventually sent Maya a very heartful message about how much being her beta reader and friend helped him through difficult times.

As Maya got better at writing, she continued the same story (it’s been an overarching series of one-shots and multichapters since she started) fleshing out the world and becoming a beloved writer in the community (at least for some people.) Miles is her #1 dedicated fan at this point, especially bc she wrote a huge arc that was almost better than the show that explored in depth the Evil Magistrates trauma and struggles and ended with him healing and starting a relationship with the Steel Samurai. Miles sends her essays in the AO3 comments gushing about her work, and they frequently exceed the character limit.

And that is the entire Miles and Maya friendship iceberg from the fic!

Also, I know you didn’t ask about the Cody lore, but you are getting the Cody lore too astri, bc I love him (Cody Hackins plz return in AA7 all grown up).

So, Cody 1000% lied about his age and got a Tumblr when he was 11, I feel this in my bones, so that he could follow Maya and Maya realized right away it was him and adopted him as her fandom little brother. He would mail her his fanart and she would mail him her fanfics (edited for 11 year old sensibilities). And once Cody was older he started posting his fanart to Tumblr and amassing a large following of his own.

At 18, in the present time of the fic he is one of those ppl that logs on once a month, also leaves essay like comments on Maya’s stuff, drops a single piece of insanely detailed art and then disappears for another month.

And that’s the Cody lore.

And one last lore drop, this one is spoilers for after the fic:

After Maya explains to Fran what is going on, Fran does take a look at Tumblr to see if she can do anything about the rude comments Maya is getting and sees SteelEdge92 defending Maya and decides to take a look at his account and see the user Maya is always talking about as her best friend.

And then in 0.3 seconds she realizes with dawning horror that this is Miles Edgeworth’s Tumblr page, bc he hasn’t changed it since he was 13 and she accidentally caught a glimpse of it.

And that neither her wife or brother have at all realized that they’ve been best friends online for almost a decade.

And then she has to lie down.

Most of Tumblr completely misunderstands Ice Pick Joe’s function in the narrative as a whole, and it’s absolutely infuriating. He’s not just some guy with an ice pick, but rather the driving force of the film’s narrative and themes. It is impossible to understand the interplay of machismo, homosocial relationships and male loneliness and alienation from society without the crucial through-line of Ice Pick Joe as a foil to Goncharov himself.

Goncharov can never be whole, as evidenced by the always missing stop watch in the second half of the film, his core character costume piece. Goncharov feels like his stopwatch is critical to his sense of self and identity, as using it to count and time his acts of violence was the thing that allowed access to the world of men when he was just a boy. Losing it therefore loses part of himself. Whereas Ice Pick Joe, in the pivotal scene where he saves himself from death on the mountain by finally using the ice pick for its intended purpose instead of the world of violence he was born into, becomes whole as he sheds the need to conquer nature, thereby shedding his need to conquer ppl.

All this to say that Ice Pick Joe is far more complex than Tumblr gives him credit for.

For those of you watching the death spiral of Twitter in real time THIS IS WHY us fandom olds always defend AO3 and it’s donation drives.

Twitter is an incalculable loss for artistic expression, news, and so many other facets I can’t even begin to count.

This sort of loss of information is impossible with AO3 and how it’s set-up. Obviously an AO3 style model isn’t sustainable for every site bc the moment images get involved the server costs skyrocket exponentially, but now more than ever the theory applies.

AO3 is an archive of our own, donators have direct say via vote about what happens to the site, you help shape it.

As long as AO3 has donation drives and doesn’t rely on advertisers it will remain around as a foremost place of art and freedom of expression. What happened to Twitter can’t happen to AO3 as it currently exists. And that is why we fight tooth and nail to protect AO3 from corporate interests and out of touch billionaires like Musk.

I hate that Twitter is dying and that anyone has to experience it, but please learn from this experience!
