Clearwine - RuneQuest
Last year I worked with Jon Hodgson and Kalin Kadiev of Chaosium on two RPG books in the Glorantha setting. They now appeared in the books The Smoking Ruin and The Pegasus Plateau. https://www.chaosium.com/the-smoking-ruin-other-stories-pdf/
The city of Clearwine had a wonderfully inspirational map to work from; the amazing location was just the icing on this cake, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

"The Witcher" Map A map of the Northern Kingdoms of the Witcher series. I drew this in collaboration with Stoneflask Studios and it will be available for purchase at https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheGeekFind soon. I'll take any excuse to stare at the Middle-Earth map for hours ;) and the style fits the setting very well, I think.

Inktober 24 - Dizzy by Ranarh
Day twentyfour: "Dizzy". Materials: "I Love Art" Encre de Chine, Faber Castell PITT ink pens Brush size Phtalo Blue and Scarlet Red, and black size S. Bristol carton, 25×17,5 cm. Method: I made a simple drawing of the face with Chinese brushes and ink pen, then worked my way over the image with red and blue pens, one area at a time. Idea: I did a drawing like this ages ago - it might even have been for another InkTober - and the effect without glasses was nauseating, so it seemed perfect for today's prompt. It even works a little if you put on red cyan  glasses; I didn't make it a science so it's not quite correct.

Inktober 4 - Freeze by Ranarh
Day four: "Freeze". Materials: Round and filbert brushes, Faber Castell PITT Ink pen size S, Mitsubishi Uniball Signo white pen, "I Love Art" Encre de Chine. Bristol carton, 17,5×25 cm. Masking fluid. Method: Masked the figure's light side and some snowflakes, then applied several thin washes with diluted and pure black ink. Brushed in the figure. Rubbed off the masking fluid with a plastic eraser, made some larger white spots into snow crystals and added fine detail to the previously masked areas, like the gun. Idea: It's one of my favourite scenes in Now You See Me, how the hypnotized audience tackles the FBI agent when he shouts "Freeze!", so the prompt had to be fulfilled with an armed person.

Forest speedpaintings - I used fairly old conté sketches as a base and PS's mixer brush for these two that I worked on simultaneously.

No flavour text this time, this really is only training. I was looking at speedpaintings from artist I admire, how they implied detail and which brushes they used to what effect; and as always, a colour and light study.

Magician's Tower
Commission for a roleplayer's birthday gift. I enjoy these commission for classic fantasy subjects; my own tendency towards bizarro fiction makes me paint few of those.

Some drybrushed ink portraits done between everything else on sketchbook double pages. Actually double pages are terrible because of the fold, but it's very satisfying to use such big brushes.

East Star Boulevard by Ranarh
"Of the star-shaped streets leading towards the city centre, East Star Boulevard was the most famous, because of its beautiful blossoming trees, excellent tea houses, and the fact that forgetting conversations held there was physically impossible."

Inktober 31 - Ripe by Ranarh
Day thirtyone: "Ripe". Materials: "I Love Art" Encre de Chine, Rohrer&Klingner white ink, Faber Castell PITT ink pens sizes M, F, S, and XS, and Brush in Deep Red and Scarlet Red. Bristol carton, 17,5×25 cm. Method: I sketched the hand from reference for the lighting from below and invented the fruit, then crosshatched the fingers and finally decided emtpy space was too boring so I also hatched the background. The fruit was colouerd with two red Brush pens and the white ink dipped on with a dropper. Idea: I had hoped for something original for the last prompt, but eventually stuck with the Halloween classic of agricultural horror. I liked the idea of white juice dripping from the ripe fruit as opposed to red. Crosshatching such a large area as the background is very tiresome to me so while I would've liked it to be darker to bring out the white drops, I quit early.

Inktober 30 - Catch by Ranarh
Day thirty: "Catch". Materials: "I Love Art" Encre de Chine, Mitsubishi Uniball Signo white pen, black Faber Castell PITT ink pen size XS, masking fluid. Bristol carton, 17,5×25 cm. Method: I masked off the mouse's upper half and the cat teeth, then drybrushed with a hogshair bristle brush. I used Chinese brushes and ink washes for the mouse, then pens to add the whiskers. Idea: I had misread the prompt for day five, Husky, as Haste, and intended this idea for it. But I found another prompt to fit it in, and I love how the brush lines on the mouse turned out. I had no references for a running rodent from this perspective, so it was the most challenging part of the drawing. Happily, this original is already sold.

Inktober 29 - Injured by Ranarh
Day twentynine: "Injured". Materials: "I Love Art" Encre de Chine, Faber Castell PITT ink pens black and white, Rohrer&Klingner carmine ink, letter opener. Japanese watercolour water, vinyl glue. Bristol carton, 17,5×25 cm. Method: I drew the figure loosely with pens and drybrush, added some washes in black and carmine, then put it on an empty carton and stabbed it from behind with a letter opener so the tears would show on the front; ripped out two smaller pieces and reattached them, filling up the gaps with Japanese watercolour paper glued on from behind, then brushed black ink on those patches so they would appear deeper from the front. Finally, I also made simple folds, bending them in both directions to deepen them. Some drops of inks were applied with a pipette to run down the drawing (they stuck closely to already drawn lines, which was fortunate because it looked like the figure was bleeding and not the page). I finished the drawing with pens, hatching and scribbling where it fit. Idea: I had poetic ideas about the wounded heart, but for the sake of trying techniques, I decided for a more violent execution of the prompt. The thick paper is quite forgiving, but made crumpling it impossible, which would've been a natural addition of destruction otherwise.

Inktober 28 - Ride by Ranarh
Day twentyeight: "Ride". Materials: "I Love Art" Encre de Chine, Faber Castell PITT ink pen size S. Bristol carton, 17,5×25 cm. Method: I drew the horse relatively tightly with pencil but kept the figure loose, then carefully placed inks with a Chinese brush. Some fine detail was drawn with the pen. Idea: I considered dragon riders for this prompt but the composition (that's a little more cramped now than in my original sketch) of this was the best. I like the stark contrast, it reminds me of summer days.

Inktober 27 - Coat by Ranarh
Day twentyseven: "Coat". Materials: "I Love Art" Encre de Chine, Faber Castell PITT white ink pens sizes B, C, and 1.5, and black size XS. Bristol carton, 17,5×25 cm. Method: I did some first pale washes, then drew the pen lines, and added more subtle washes, alternating with white pens. Idea: This is basically the same drawing as for yesterday's prompt Dark, I liked the pose a lot and made the drawing once in dark tones and once very bright. I think I like the subtelty of this one better.

Inktober 26 - Dark by Ranarh
Day twentysix: "Dark". Materials: "I Love Art" Encre de Chine, Faber Castell PITT white ink pens sizes B, C, and 1.5, and black size B. Bristol carton, 17,5×25 cm. Method: I used pure black ink and a rugged brush for the stark outlines and then plenty of washes to create this. In between I added white pen lines that were partly overpainted again. I used the hairdrier a lot, creating the bloom edges of the washes. Idea: The sketch for this prompt fit so very well for tomorrow's as well that I will iterate the same idea twice. I enjoy drawing hands, so I often look for an expressive pose or one I simply find elegant.
