Whaddya think about the Stones blessing Joe Bonamassa with an opening act set at their Seattle date (personally, pleased Mobile’s own The Red Clay Strays got the nod for Gillette Stadium)?
Well, I confess that as great a player as he is, Bonamassa’s music fails to move me. So I think it’s a decision that was made when Mick and Keith were busy yelling at each other rather than truly paying attention.
It’s funny, they have had some talented openers, courageous choices including Ike and Tina, BB King, Prince, Stevie Wonder and Wonderlove, Fab T-Birds, etc.
I’m happy they are still around, I think that’s all I have to say about that because I don’t want to join the anti-Joe club, a club of millions of jealous white dudes my age. Still, hard to imagine who made that call unless ticket sales were slow and they needed to pull in the “Blues Lawyer” demographic.
By the way, you did not ask, but they remain a true band live, no tapes, Mick is singing all the songs. They have fewer people on stage than in previous years, nobody to fill in when Woody forgets a chord change, and choosing Steve Jordan to take the drum throne was an inspired choice.
Very kind of you to ask. My Stones answers run long.

A collection of quotes in which Eric Stewart describes Paul McCartney reacting to the death of John Lennon, approximately three months later.
McCartney and Wonder continued their collaboration in England, going into Eric Stewart’s Strawberry South Studios to work on a co-written song, ‘What’s That You’re Doing?’ During the session Paul fell into a lugubrious mood. Recalls Stewart: "He said, ‘I’ve just realised that John has gone. John’s gone. He’s dead and he’s not coming back.’ And he looked completely dismayed, like shocked at something that had just suddenly hit [him]. I said, 'Well, it’s been a few weeks now.’ He said, ‘I know, Eric, but I’ve just realised.’ It was one of those things maybe he wanted to say something to him, but it was too late to say it then."
Source: Fab: An Intimate Life of Paul McCartney by Howard Sounes
Then one afternoon, probably a few months into 1981, he looked up at Eric Stewart, the 10cc cofounder he’d called in to help with backing vocals, and was suddenly stricken with horror. “You know, John’s dead,” Paul said. “John’s dead. It’s just hit me. He’s not around anymore.” Stewart gazed back into Paul’s eyes and tried to think of something reasonable to say in response. “I just nodded,” he recalls. “He looked quite sad and shocked. I think it just came home to him that this guy he had done so much with just wasn’t around anymore.”
Source: Paul McCartney: A Life by Peter Ames Carlin
Q: Another thing that must have been quite difficult, I guess – correct me if I’m wrong – but the timeline suggests you would have been in the studio in early ’81 when John had just died?
STEWART: Yeah. It was interesting, it was very, very sad, and I was working with Paul actually down at Strawberry South at the time, we were doing Stevie Wonder and he’d written a song with Paul, I think it was the Tug of War album, yeah, What’s That You’re Doing. And we had his girl backing group there, Wonderlove, who were doing the most wonderful vocals. Paul’s sitting there, just looking very, very strangely, just looking into the distance, and I said ‘Are you okay?’, and he said ‘Yeah’, he said ‘Do you know, I’ve just realised that John is really gone and I’m never going to see him again’, and I said ‘Bloody hell, you’re right, wow. You must be feeling it a hell of a lot more than I will'.  He said ‘Yeah, it’s so sad’, but I don’t know what was going on between them at that point in time, but obviously there were big fallings out with the Beatles anyway, as you’re probably well aware.

During these sessions [for What’s That You’re Doing?] Paul and I were in the control room one morning, just the two of us, and he looked a bit distant and withdrawn. I asked him if he was OK, and he suddenly said, ‘Yeah, I’m fine Eric, I was just thinking that John’s really gone, and I won’t ever be seeing him again!’

The Walking Man's Boots
Warm, sunny weather today lent itself to a nice walk. But, instead of taking the iPod along, I pulled my Sony Walkman out of the drawer where it's been since winter, and dug into my collection of bootleg tapes. When I was managing a small record shop in the late 1980s to the mid-1990s, I had a few regulars among my clientele who were collectors, and they often bought bootleg CDs. Bootleg CDs then were everywhere, but because they cost about twice what an authorized CD did, I rarely bought them. Even at cost the prices were high. Still, my curiosity was peaked, and friends and co-workers often ran them off for me on a cassette tape. Most of my pals specialized in one or two particular artists. A guy I worked with was a Black Crowes fanatic, so he ran off a lot of their shows for me. One of my customers was a veritable warehouse of Bob Dylan bootlegs, and I could hardly keep up with the supply of those. The owner of the store I managed was into Springsteen, so there was a lot of that, too. These cost me nothing, but I'd usually get them a blank tape, or maybe run something off I had that they wanted to hear. It was a nice way to expand your collection without emptying your bank account.
There was one guy who sold bootleg tapes as a sideline, and for 10 bucks, and a blank, he'd take your order, and run whatever you wanted. He had a great supply of 70s classic rock - Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Yes, Captain Beyond, Rush, the J. Geils Band, Pink Floyd, and countless others. And many of them were soundboard recordings. The ones that weren't were usually good quality audience recordings, and he always used good quality tape as well. So, ten bucks seemed like a fair deal to me. I have live shows from every Zeppelin tour from '69 to the end. I have Aerosmith in a Boston club before they hit the arena circuit. He even ran some studio recordings of outtakes and demos on some of those bands, and that was in the days before labels were raiding their vaults and using that stuff on box sets, and Record Store Day releases.
In any case, what I listened to today was an outlier in my collection. The guy who did The Black Crowes tapes for me happened to have a live Stevie Wonder show from 1972 that might've been sourced from one of the shows he opened for The Rolling Stones that summer. But the flip side has a 1978 Joni Mitchell show when she was touring her Mingus album. Usually my cassettes were one band - sometimes two shows, or maybe two different bands who shared a sound in common, or played the same venue the same year. But the Joni, and Stevie sets were all he had by each, so he put them together on one C90. I listened to the Wonder side on my walk, and it's excellent. Fine performance, and good sound, and more valuable today because Wonder never did another live album after a 1970 release (Stevie Wonder Live). So his classic period is undocumented. But this '72 show catches him just as Superstition is exploding onto the charts, and has Higher Ground, Superwoman, Signed, Sealed & Delivered, You Are The Sunshine of My Life and others. His band, Wonderlove, is spot on, and it's a fine show. It's been years since I listened to it. I forgot I even had it. So it was nice digging it out today, and getting reacquainted with it. That's the best thing about having a great collection. There'll be more to come throughout the summer.

Angela Lisa Winbush (born January 18, 1955) is an American R&B/soul singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer who rose to fame first in the 1980s R&B duo René & Angela, also scoring hits as a solo artist. To date, she has sold over 10 million albums and singles worldwide. Born in St. Louis, she began singing in church. She is a graduate of Northwest High School. She did not initially aspire to a career in music, instead studying architecture at Howard University, singing only to earn extra money. She continued to sing in church while at Howard as well as with gospel legend Richard Smallwood. She performed as a singer with a group called "Hot Tea" while she attended Howard University. They opened for various well-known performers during shows and did background singing for recording artists. She changed her major to music education and recorded a demo. She shopped it to various record labels with no success but, through a personal introduction furnished by respected industry veteran, Wayne K. Garfield, the demo was heard by New York disc jockey Gary Byrd, who made the call that landed her a spot in Stevie Wonder's backing vocal group, Wonderlove. Becoming Wonder's protégé, she learned a great deal about writing and arranging songs. While in Los Angeles with Wonder, she met singer, Rene Moore. The two formed the duo René & Angela. They soon realized that they could be successful as duo music writers and producers for others as well, and began pursuing that goal. René & Angela released their self-titled debut album in 1980, followed by Wall to Wall in 1982 and Rise in 1983. During this period they scored two top 20 R&B hit singles, "I Love You More" and "My First Love.” #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence https://www.instagram.com/p/Cnjmio2LjDv/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Happy Birthday to Ollie E. Brown, Drummer, Percussionist, and Record Producer. A prolific session musician, Brown has performed on over a hundred albums in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Brown was also half of the American dance-pop duo Ollie & Jerry, which had a Top 10 hit with "Breakin'... There's No Stopping Us" in 1984. By 1976 he had already performed as a drummer or percussionist on dozens of albums, including I Can Stand a Little Rain by Joe Cocker, 1990 and A Song for You by The Temptations, It's My Pleasure by Billy Preston, and Black and Blue by The Rolling Stones. In the 1970s Brown also performed on albums by Diana Ross, Van Morrison, Leo Sayer, and Sly and the Family Stone.
Along with Billy Preston and pianist Ian Stewart, Brown was part of the Rolling Stones Tour of the Americas '75 and The Rolling Stones Tour of Europe '76. He also was an early member of Stevie Wonder's band Wonderlove.  In the late 1970s Brown performed on Raydio's self-titled debut album. This led to a partnership with Raydio bassist Jerry Knight, who was also a prolific session musician. Together, the two formed the duo Ollie & Jerry, and recorded the song "Breakin'... There's No Stopping Us" for the 1984 breakdancing-themed film Breakin'. The song was successful, reaching number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1984

I continued to nest about, feeling inexplicably restless and anxious for whatever reason. Peter stayed with me, shooing Isabelle off to study for her upcoming finals and telling Katie to go off, our adopted daughter going off to play on the piano in the sunroom. He would pick up stuff for me from the floor and let me sit on his knee when I needed a break, showering my face and neck with whiskery kisses.
“You doing good there now, sweetheart?” Peter asked me as I was pumping more milk from my aching tits. He had carried me upstairs into the master bedroom and was curled up around me from his side of the bed, one hand placed lovingly over where the Ratajczyk triplets were incubating, the three babies calm with the presence of their daddy nearby.
“Hey sweetheart, I think we’ll need to use formula for the arrival of the triplets,” Peter chuckled at the growing pile of full milk baggies. “I don’t think you’ll make enough for all three babies.”
I sent him a withering stare as I removed the now full bag from my pump, handing it over to him to be sealed.
“Yeah, well, whose fault is it that I am now pregnant with three babies?” I bitched, in a cranky mood for whatever reason.
“I’m so sorry, sweetheart,” he groveled, looking up at me with eyes full of wonderlove. I almost forgot how pissed I was at him for some reason after meeting his soft hazel blue eyes.
“Tomorrow, I see Dr. Isles and we’ll review my birthing plan.” All my frustrated anger had left me, leaving me feeling exhausted and limp. I smiled as my husband removed the now full bag of milk from the milk pump, skillfully sealing it before fitting another to the machine. “And then from there, we will go to Saint Mary’s Maternity Hospital for Expectant Mothers and talk to a birthing counselor about the birthing plan.”
“That does sound like a good plan,” Peter agreed as he leaned forward and pressed three whiskery kisses to my tummy.
KICK KICK KICK KICK
“Hey, what do you think of keeping the girls home from school tomorrow?” he pitched to me. “Bitty had a very stressful day today and I think the day off would be good for her.”
“Fine by me,” I shrugged, making a note to call the school in a bit, but Peter was already beating me to the chase, sliding his phone out from his back pocket and lifting it to his ear.
HIC HIC HIC HIC
Baby Eve suddenly began to hiccup in her sleep, her tiny baby body jerking up as spasms of air ripped through her itty bitty baby lungs.
HIC HIC HIC HIC
Sniffle sniffle sniffle
I looked up at the sense of needing love ebbed from the open doorway, only the doggy gate in place and saw Elizabeth, bundled in a purple blankie and rubbing at red, teary eyes, Elle tucked under one arm tightly to her chest.
“Elizabeth, what’s wrong?” I asked her in a soft voice, holding out my hand in an open invitation for her to enter and crawl onto the bed for some very much needed snuggles from mommy and daddy.
HIC HIC HIC HIC HIC HIC HIC HIC HIC HIC HIC HIC
Elizabeth bounded into the bedroom, leaping onto the bed and then tucking herself in between her father and I.
“Why do such evil people exist out there in the world?” she sniffled as Mittens jumped up onto the bed, padding up to her distraught not a kitten before curling up into a little ball next to her and erupting into loud purrs.
PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUR
HIC HIC HIC HIC HIC HIC HIC HIC HIC HIC HIC HIC went Baby Eve, her soft chocolate brown eyes fluttering open. Her little lip trembled violently before-
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH… HIC WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH… HIC WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH… HIC WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH… HIC WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH… HIC WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH… HIC WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH… HIC WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH… HIC
“Poor baby,” I murmured sympathetically as I began to tickle my fingers across Elizabeth’s bald little head. “Elizabeth, do you want to talk about what you’re feeling?”
“I think I suffered a panic attack today,” she meeped timidly, looking up as Primrose jumped up onto the bed and immediately came up to Elizabeth, hopping into her lap with a quiet chitter.
“What happened, Elizabeth?” I asked her, my heart clenching at her emotional breakdown that she was suffering from.
“I was looking at a photograph of a man falling, and then it just hit me,” she called numbly. “My heart starts racing, I get sweaty, and I started to tremble with chills, I have difficulty breathing, my vision starts to fade out, and I felt as though I was going to be sick right then and there.”
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH… HIC WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH… HIC WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH… HIC WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH… HIC WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH… HIC WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH… HIC WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH… HIC WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH… HIC
Peter rolled over and scooped Baby Eve into his arms before settling himself down on the bed with the little six month old tyke on his beefy chest.
“Elizabeth, the world is a cold, dark, cruel place,” I explained bluntly. “There are people who hate, hate, hate with every fiber of their wellbeing. Some people just cannot function unless there’s something to hate. That’s why the terrorists hate people who don’t believe in what they believe. They will kill women who don’t wear full head to toe coverings, they will kill men who don’t follow the Qur'an, they will kill children if they’re from home that don’t practice what they think.”
“Why?” she whimpered.
“There has always been such hatred in the world,” I shrugged matter of fact tone of voice. “It’s only been within the past twenty five, twenty six years that their unjustifiable rage has been broadcasted around the world with the power of the world wide web and television.”
“Oh.” Elizabeth’s tears were still falling, though not as rapidly.“Yeah,” I told her, the milk pump turning off for the final time and I tugging the full bag from the machine. Elizabeth took the bag from me and sealed it for me before adding it to the tall pile of bags of milk on the bed. “Gramercy, Elizabeth.”
She only smiled at me before asking me if she wanted me to carry the bags of milk downstairs to be deposited into the big space freezer in the garage.
“Here Bitty, stash them into the mini refrigerator at the foot of the bed,” Peter urged her. “We’ll take care of them in the morning, yeah?”
Gramercy, thank you, old French?
