imagine Buffy and Spike trying to do a crossword puzzle
Buffy "Four letter word for 'garment worn over clothing.' Robe!"
Spike "I think they're going for 'coat' here pet"
Buffy "It could be robe, you wear those over clothing"
Spike "The cross clue is '3 day festival of peace and love' so unless that answer is Woodstork..."
Buffy "Yeah that sounds right"
Spike "It's Woodstock"
Buffy "No, I don't think so. I distinctly remember Oz saying Woodstork was a major event in music history"
Spike "I was at Woodstock! I know what it was called!"
Buffy "Are you sure? Maybe you were at a different concert. It was a long time ago and old people get mixed up a lot"

WoodStork Caught A Meal by Lutfi Shedraway
Via Flickr:
Quiet a distance but the 800 mm lens did its work! A closer look at this wood stork bill, looks like he caught a small frog. As I had him in my view, I noticed he snapped his head in the water fairly fast and with a sequence of shots, I caught this bird catching a meal. The wood stork is a large American wading bird. It was formerly called the "wood ibis", although it is not an ibis. It is found in subtropical and tropical habitats in the Americas, including the Caribbean. Wood Stork are also the largest wading bird in the U.S., weighing 5 to 7 lbs. with a wingspan of 5 to 5.75 feet and standing nearly 4 feet tall — in other words, the height of an average 7-year-old child. Please see the photo at its largest size to see the frog! Explored: www.flickr.com/photos/shedraway/53398928745/in/explore-20...

November 20 - Sunshine then clouds with temperatures in the upper 70s and a mild wind made for a pleasant day. There were a few hours of stuffy, sweat breaking stickiness but the unpleasantness didn’t last too long.
This morning we said goodbye to Marcia and Dan on Cutting Class. The left Vero hoping to make the crossing to the Abacos on Wednesday.
Goodbye Cutting Class! Safe travels!
We will see Marcia and Dan in the spring when we both return to Mystic/Stonington.
Shortly after Cutting Class left the raft up, we welcomed Bob and Wendy on Sol A Maya (our former Molly D). This is their first trip down the ICW. Sol A Maya knows the way so I hope that she will keep them safe. Bob and Wendy are enjoying their trip. We have gotten together with them in Annapolis, Solomons, Coinjock, and here in Vero. They are great company. David and I will be keeping an eye on Sol A Maya while they go home to Massachusetts to enjoy the holidays with family.

Bob and Wendy joined us for an afternoon on the town. Photo taken at Jaycee Beach.
Exciting day tomorrow!! We have rented a car for the day so that we can do a Target/Walmart/ Publix run and to get an empty propane tank refilled. Woo hoo! We are going to load up the trunk with “stuff” and it will feel so good! We will also bring Bob and Wendy to the VB airport.
Our friends, Vic and Heather on Journey, pulled into Vero yesterday. They rented a car and are driving to Arkansas to have Thanksgiving with Heather’s mom. Vic and Heather will be back in Vero a week from tomorrow and we will get time to enjoy each other’s company.
Here are some photos from the past week.
This bird is a woodstork
A movie production came to the marina last week. The “creature” in the rear of the boat must be very uncomfortable in that rubber suit in the hot sun!
A beach toy borrow bin at Humiston Beach.
A bit of high water washes over the dock’s finger pier.
Sunset over the Barber Bridge.
Colorful flowers amongst the greenery.

From the exhibition-
For “Nature Inspired”, the artists visited Brooker Creek Preserve in March 2022 and March 2023 to strategize the exhibit and hike around the Preserve. Their love for Brooker Creek and nature has been inspiring and their work represents a variety of approaches from comical to realist to aesthetic abstraction. The exhibition includes prints by: Holly Bird, Saumitra Chandratreya, Tyrus Clutter, Elizabeth Coachman, Marjorie Greene Graff, Mary-Helen Horne, Stephen Littlefield, Ry McCullough, Polly E. Perkins, Christine Renc-Carter, and Rachel Stewart.
Below is work from the exhibition by Mary-Helen Horne. You can also find her work on Instagram.
Mary-Helen Horne, "Floating on Air", 2023, Monoprint with drypoint, relief and pochoir
Nature Inspired has been extended until 8/13/23. It's a great show and a chance to check out the natural surroundings that helped create the work.
