Can we get some more padlock/general dhmis Concepts headcanons? I thought nobody else talked about them anymore and I love your hcs!

First off, I'm so happy to that you like my headcanons and I'm honestly just glad to have someone else to talk about DHMIS with, since I missed it so much when the fandom went dormant.

Secondly, I would be happy to share some headcanons of mine for both Padlock and Concepts in general. These are going to be fairly vague since for most of them I plan to make longer dedicated posts about them. They are also going to be based on my own interpretation/version of the universe.

Starting with the general Concept headcanons. This is just going to be about the Concepts as a whole, not specific characters, but I will do those in the future if you (or anyone) wants to ask about specific Concepts/Teachers. I’ll do the Padlock headcanons later/on a different post.

Concepts can come into existence in one of two ways. They can either be “created” where they just pop into existence and are made purely from magic and a sort of energy. Or they can be “born” which means they have at least one parent.

Concepts can have up to three names - their “true” name is the thing they represent, but they can also have an object name and a human name.

The Council that Larry mentions in “Death” is an actual thing, but instead of rating your performance of your life, they’re simply the authority of the Concepts. 

While Concepts that are created are immortal from the second they’re created, the ones who are born do actually have a window of 24 hours after they’re born where they are actually mortal, though they’re a lot more resilient than “regular” newborns.

Concepts do not need to eat or sleep, but most do both just for the experience and also because both of those things can make it easier/faster for a Concept to revive after a death.

For Concepts that have an object form, they can change back and forth between humanoid and object form basically whenever they want, though if they do so too much in succession, they can sometimes turn themselves into a sort of “hybrid” for a short time.

Despite common belief, most of them aren’t actually actively malicious, and don’t go out of their way to harm anyone, but you still should be cautious around them.

Adding to an old(er) headcanon of mine, while baby Concepts can walk fine from the time they’re a few months old, they do often still get carried around just for convenience. Because they are still the size of months old infants, meaning while they can walk, they can’t walk very fast.

The amount of time it takes for a Concept to revive from death usually depends on how they died, but the average amount of time for revival is between 2-24 hours.

All Teachers are Concepts, but not all Concepts are Teachers. Teachers are the ones who actively try and teach about what they represent, while Concepts are just the beings that represent that concept.

The physical human form of a Concept is no indication of how old the Concept itself is. For example, Tony has existed for much, much longer than Colin, but their human forms appear to be the same (physical) age.

Concepts that are created come into existence fully grown, while the ones who are born do have to physically grow and age until they hit their “final” physical age at which point they stop appearing to age. 

If a Concept wants to enter someplace, either to visit or to stay there, nobody can stop them. Not even out of fear of retribution; there’s just an innate ability of the Concepts that makes the “welcome” anywhere they want to be.

Have you ever loved someone? Not in a romantic sense, but genuinely caring about someone other than yourself.

Yes. I have genuinely cared about others, in my own twisted little way.

No matter how selfish I am, I do care about Sketchbook to some degree. There are times where I am concerned about smaller things, such as how well she's eating, if she has fallen ill or gotten hurt by something or someone other than myself...I don't favour the thought of her being too cold in the winter or too hot in the summer, either...

When there is something that she wants that she cannot get herself, I am happy to provide. I also help her with rent and other expenses because I'd rather her not financially struggle. (Her workplace's wages really should be higher with how diligently she works.) I don't hesitate to cook for her, clean for her, or anything along those lines if I feel as though she would want or need it.

As strange as it may seem, I am very proud of her accomplishments, and believe her to be a strong person. I make it a point to tell her so every once in a while.

There have also been...very few times in which I have cared for someone, no violence or trickery involved. As rare as even the case with Sketchbook is, you can imagine that a truly healthy relationship is even rarer than that.

Think of it as the 0.01% percent of the 0.1% percent.

I'd already personally seen the Louvre many times, even before it was a museum...but with Sketchbook there, it was as though I'd visited it for the first time. She was flitting from piece to piece as a bee buzzes from flower to flower!

You should have seen the brightness on her face, the sheer excitement! The joy! I could barely keep up with the girl.

Of course, I knew her mind had erased me from the picture...but I do not care.

As I've said, it was but a glimpse of how happy and full of life she used to be, back then...but I'll treasure the sight for lifetimes over~...
