Woonsocket Mill Fire: Historic Building Destroyed, Community Reflects
Tumblr media
This past weekend, a devastating fire engulfed the historic Woonsocket Mill, a landmark that stood for over a century. The blaze, which started in the early hours, has left the community in shock as they mourn the loss of a piece of their history.
The mill, known for its iconic architecture and significant role in local industry, had been a symbol of Woonsocket's rich past. Firefighters battled the flames for hours, but the building was ultimately lost. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.
Residents are now coming together to reflect on the mill's impact and share memories of its place in their lives. As the community grapples with this loss, they are also looking ahead, considering how to honor the mill's legacy and rebuild their sense of history.

Time For A Different Approach Regarding The Trump Assassination Attempt
Yesterday I spent the morning in Kennedy Plaza talking to folks in addiction.  I learned a lot.  Then I went up to Smith Hill and learned more.  Then I went to Chalkstone Avenue and learned even more.  However, I can’t talk about it yet.  I’m not sure if it all fits together.  Heck, I’m not sure if it has anything to do with the rest of it.  Once I figure it out, I will let you know.  In the…

Novans baseball thanks umpire for going above and beyond
April 4, 2024
Sharing some good news on this rainy Thursday . . .
Woonsocket baseball coach Tommy Brien contacted the RIIL office wanting to pass along this "shout out" to umpire Mike Coffey: "On Saturday, March 30th Woonsocket varsity boys baseball hosted an Injury Fund double header. In the first game, Burrillville played Smithfield. In the second game, North Smithfield played Woonsocket. We would like to recognize umpire Mike Coffey for doing both 7-inning games behind the plate. He was solo for both and did an awesome job. So thank you, Mr. Coffey for a great day. We appreciate you."
What's more, Coffey volunteered his time for these Injury Fund games. It's great to see this kind of continued support for the RI Interscholastic Injury Fund, which defrays the cost of medical expenses not covered by insurance for athletes, coaches or officials injured in sanctioned interscholastic games and practices. Established in 1947, it is the only organization of its kind in the U.S.

Flopcast 599: I Can't Mall Here Anymore
New Post has been published on http://esonetwork.com/flopcast-599-i-cant-mall-here-anymore/
Flopcast 599: I Can't Mall Here Anymore
Flopcast episode 599! Let’s go to the mall! But one specific mall that isn’t there anymore! (Well, it’s sort of still there, but not really.) We’re joined by Gleaming the Tube‘s Kevin Cafferty to look back on the Lincoln Mall in Lincoln, Rhode Island (frighteningly close to Woonsocket). It wasn’t the biggest mall, it wasn’t the best mall, but it was our mall. And our Lincoln Mall memories include: Waldenbooks, our primary source of X-Men comics, Bloom County collections, and Tolkien; sketchy sausage samples at Hickory Farms; failed attempts to meet girls at the movies; the freaky pet store; the inexplicable organ store; the restaurant no one went to (Roast House); the restaurant everyone went to, because there were two of them in the same mall (Papa Gino’s); the neverending weirdness of Spencer Gifts; and the glory of the Dream Machine video arcade. Also: Andre the Giant eating spaghetti! The sticker girl phenomenon! Our first comic book shop experiences! Our first dishwashing experiences! Record store employees with attitudes! Randy the Talking Reindeer! The Challenge of the Checkers Champion! A mall visit from Spider-Man! A ring of car stereo thieves! Rhode Island’s own John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band! And yikes, so much more… Even if you never visited the Lincoln Mall, we know there’s a mall or two in your past, so you can relate. In a way, we’re all still lost among the overflowing bins of cheap junk at Kay Bee Toys.
