8 for billy??? But it doesnt have to be classical exactly it could just be like a slower song? Or something no one would expect him to lsieten to thats more on the softer side

Hi!! I hear you with it not having to be a classical piece but I’m 150% making it a classical piece (although there are definitely some very soft, very quiet songs people are Very Confused to hear Billy listen to)

8.     a classical piece 

(So I wrote basically a short fic about this and I dunno if you guys wanna read that but it’s based around Christmas and we’re still in Sept. so maybe I’ll save it and polish it a bit and post it around Christmas)(unless you guys wanna read about it now but it’s just Billy as a kid + some OCs ((his aunt and cousin)) I made real damn quick and anyway)(it’s emotional and also kinda fluffy)

So whenever it starts to snow, Billy will sit in his room and put on a tape and listen to Waltz of the Snowflakes - Tchaikovsky.

It confuses absolutely everybody. No one expects Billy to be listening to music from a fucking ballet.

But there he is. The snow is swirling in the air and Billy is sitting at the window, cup of hot chocolate in hand, watching the snow twirl on the wind as if there’s someone out there dancing on it.

and I’m gonna sit here and give Billy family (bc that’s what this entire blog is now, alright?? Justice for Billy bc the boy deserves a goddamn family, thanks) and the family I’m giving him is an aunt and a cousin who both live up in Northern California.

And I’m saying that Billy’s aunt comes down to pick up Billy and drive him up for a Christmas in NorCal one year, when Billy is 8. There’s a number of reasons as to why this happens, like Neil’s childhood friend dying very suddenly and Billy’s mom catching a pretty bad stomach bug and neither of Billy’s parents wanting him at a funeral or catching sick for Christmas. and Billy’s aunt had been begging to see Billy again, so they agree and Billy’s heading up to NorCal with his aunt who’s telling him about his cousin who’s in The Nutcracker in San Francisco.

Billy goes w/ his aunt to see it.

He’s enthralled.

Absolutely enchanted. He feels the music in his chest as they dance and spin and twirl and jump. The song is nearly 7 minutes of ups and downs and intensity and softness and Billy’s breathing heavy by the end of it. Little Billy is absolutely in awe.

And he meets his cousin and lo and behold, she’s fucking awesome. She sneaks him out onto the stage after the show, after everyone’s left the house. She twirls him around and lifts him like he’s a ballerina and they laugh together. The three of them walk Billy around the city to see the Christmas lights. They stop at a bakery on the corner and grab some cookies to eat on the way home. Billy is spoiled and he’s never been spoiled in his life and it’s the absolute best Christmas he’s ever had.

His cousin makes him promise to come see her dance again sometime. “They’ve got my ass tied up in a contract, so I’ll be here for a few more years!”

Obviously, Billy doesn’t go again. He doesn’t see her again.

But he thinks about the show everytime Christmas comes around. He goes out and buys a cassette of the Nutcracker one day when he wakes up to snow on the streets of Hawkins. He listens to the song any time there’s snowfall and he has time to just sit in the window and see it. Picture it. Every year that passes makes the dancing gets hazier. Makes the blizzard consume it a little more.

And Billy tells Steve about it one night when they’re snowed in at Steve’s house. He explains bc Steve asks. He talks about his cousin and how he promised and how he hasn’t seen her since then. But that she was beautiful. That the music is so thrilling. That there’s something about it that took him away from himself. That put him somewhere else entirely.

And the following Christmas, Steve gives Billy his gift in an envelope.

“Tickets to...? Really?” Billy looks up at Steve with wide, confused eyes.

Steve smiles a bit.

“Yeah. I mean, they’re for New York, and your cousin won’t be there, obviously, but the way you talk about it I just... I wanted to see it with you so-oh!”

Steve is cut off because Billy captures him in a strong hug, squeezing him tight and burying his face in Steve’s neck, mumbling multiple thank yous against Steve’s skin.

Steve laughs brightly.
