Even though it was childish, Valentin didn’t care. He made a fort in his new room, mostly to escape the talk about the two countries. His country was neutral, and Austria didn’t get into things, mostly international things. His father told him to stay out of it, after he clearly said that he didn’t think there should be a war. He had everything he needed-candy, chips, a huge TV and every single drink he needed. He was good as he picked a random movie and started to relax. It was an escape from what was going on, and honestly, he was happy about that. “Go away,” he groaned when a shadow came over his fort. “I’m not here, and I don’t wanna talk about the whole...thing that shouldn’t even happen.”

Ivan relished the cold breeze as he sat on the steps leading to the gardens. He was onto his third cigarette and as he wrapped his lips around the stick he felt unlikely to stop anytime soon. The first person who had asked him if it was true his family was moving military forces caught him off guard, by the third one he figured something must be up.
It had taken him half a day to get through to his parents and find out what the hell was going on and their answers hadn’t exactly been helpful. Of course they said it was ridiculous that they would attempt to go to war over someone who wasn’t even in their family anymore, yet they also didn’t deny the shifting of troops. Hearing the footsteps behind him he released a plume of smoke, speaking without even turning around. “If you’re here your ask whether we’re about to be trapped in the middle of a war, I can’t give a good enough fucking answer.”

Everything was chaos once again in Matthias’ life. With all of the rumors swirling around about his country possibly engaging in war with the Russians he was in a slight panic. Not only was war the last thing he wanted for his people but what would that mean for him, Kat, and Maggie when it came to staying in Khatanga? Yes, he and Ivan were trying to work on something but it was slow going at the moment as they wracked their brains for a solution both of their parents would approve of and in the mean time he felt lost. Papers were strewn over the table he was sat at in the village, Honey Brews seeming like a nice place to be able to concentrate in. But the chatter around him was catching his attention and Matthias was finding it hard to ignore. A particular statement caught his interest and he looked up from his work to lean towards the person at the next table. “Do any of you even know what you’re talking about or are you just content with spreading lies around until this whole things dies down?”

With the clean up in the village and at the castle and all the royals wanting an escort to help it was no wonder that Gio had heard all the rumors that were circulating about the two countries supposedly going to war. It was exhausting having to listen in on these conversations as Gio really preferred to stay out of it. He didn’t know either of the princes involved nor did he know their sisters very well aside from the snippy one he sat with on Valentine’s day. But he was being pulled in anyway, people asking his opinions left and right to which he usually replied with a shrug of his shoulder. Which is exactly what he had done when he’d sat down and the person nearest him had asked which side he would take if he were a royal and involved in this mess. “I try not take sides. Is Switzerland still neutral because that’s who I’m going with if they are?”

Elias wasn’t really one to gossip, the Liechtensteiner prince was usually too absorbed in his own little world for that. This particular rumour, however, seemed to be on everyone’s lips and was hard to miss even for him. Aside from finding the whole military deal absolutely tiring and a complete vibe killer, Elias did find the idea of “forbidden” love very intriguing.
“Going against parents to be with the one you love, they lap that up in Hollywood.” he thought aloud, before taking a long drag of his cigarette. “It’s sweet, you know, if you exclude the countries acting like little kids playing with those green plastic army men.”

Rumors flowed freely for weeks as the tension between the Netherlands and Russia mounted. No one in Khatanga truly knew what was going on between the two monarchies as communication was limited. The only thing that anyone could hold onto were different rumors. The Netherlands and Russia were going to war. World War IV was just around the corner and it was all because the Dutch prince insisted on marrying the Russian princess.
Although these rumors swirled for weeks after Matthias gave Maggie the engagement ring, none of them proved to be true. In the background, the Russian and Dutch monarchs were working closely to figure out a deal that would not lead to war and one that would make all of their allies happy in the wake of such a selfish folly on the part of the Dutch prince.
In a bid to help out Khatanga, the Netherlands promised to lower tariffs on produce destined for Russia, especially produce destined for the small village where the royals were secretly being held. In return, Russia would lower tariffs on steel to be used for wind turbines in the Netherlands.
While neither country is pleased with the actions of their children, they feel as though they have come up with a fair plan to keep tensions down and relations strong.
OOC: The second test is now complete! Feel free to have your characters respond to the now confirmed engagement of Matthias and Maggie, as well as the trade deals.

With the rebuilding of Khatanga underway and day to day life settling back into a more familiar pattern it was no wonder that whispers started to resurface through the castle and down in the village. By now the world knew that the Russian king and queen had disowned their only daughter for her romantic links to Prince Matthias of the Netherlands. And by now Khatanga’s residents and the royal families also knew that the act had done nothing to dampen the pair’s affection for each other. In fact some people were saying it had only ignited the couple’s passion a hundredfold.
It had started with a slip of the tongue from a well oiled maid but soon it began to spread that tensions were rising between Russia and the Netherlands. That the Romanovs weren’t happy that they had seemingly been bested. The other royal parents seized the opportunity to fuel the rumours, much to the chagrin of the involved countries, and dropped breadcrumbs here and there. Russia was getting ready to engage the Netherlands, their military bases spotted growing active. The Netherlands had set Maggie and Matthias up on purpose in order to goad Russia in an all out war.
Stories erupted all over the castle and throughout the village. But what was the truth and where did other countries stand?
OOC:
As can be seen above the current state of politics between Russia and the Netherlands is pretty tense to say the least. For this task you can explore your muses thoughts and feelings on the standings, as well as giving you the chance to research possible political ties of their nationalities, royal or not. Some of the questions your character may ask themselves include:
How would your character respond? Who would they side with? Are they suspicious of the other based on alliances? Rebels might ask themselves how they can use this to their advantage?
This task can be approached in many ways including; self-paras, ooc overview, as an interview or conversation, or even incorporate them into starters.
