WORKSHOP8 2nd of December- Clay Creative experiment workshop
Week 2nd- 6th of December
Today I did the Clay- creative experiment workshop.
We started off my doing a drawing onto paper I decided to look at my car wheel and look at the patterns on the revs first, then we developed it onto card, I cut out circles but we had to make it 3D so I decided to play around with paper to see if I could make it become 3D.
After playing around with different circle shapes I decided to look at patterns and sizes all over the car instead of just at the revs size and pattern.
I combined these two ideas together which I got the outline of a car steering wheel with different pattern shapes and sizes.
These patterns have all different meanings and the ones I started off with represent time and sun which to me is happiness.
Which for the social side of my car there bes a lot of happiness as we spend a lot of time together from its sun till moon.

Workshop8. Sara - After Effects: Stop Motion
Within this workshop we created an effective (glitch looking) video. I found this tutorial effective as I learned new techniques and effects that added to the video, such as creating new textures which added something more to the video rather than just having the initial drawing moving by itself. We did this by drawing around our images and then adding an effect that looked as if the shape was being drawn onto the video which gave it a nice hand drawn element to it as well as emphasising the illustration.
I also liked these effects because by adding these textures and effects I could play around more with the colours rather than it being a black and white video. I found this effective as it added to the object that was being drawn and kind of brought it to life.
After creating the video I also understood the impact of having three separate drawing of the same thing as it added texture and movement (by scanning it in and having marks from the scanner, as well as being able to see the lines and hand drawn elements of the pieces). It is a simple technique that I would like to try and take forward within my other work.

Workshop 8 - Compression
The 8th workshop covered compression, specifically the compression of videos for additional use, whether you need to upload it somewhere or give it to someone that has a file size limit.
The two main things to consider are the file format of the video and the video format of the video, the file format is a container while the video format is actually how the video is compressed. Where the file format deals with a user’s output functions i.e. what player are they using? The video format deals more so with the video quality itself, although it may at times be a factor for certain players too.
There are a few reasons for the compressing of videos. As previously mentioned, one reason is that a lot of uses for the video will require a low file size due to file size limitations. The other important consideration for compression is the compatibility, this is to say that not every user/viewer has a player that will be able to play every file type or video type.

Workshop 8 - Compression (1 Mbps compression)
Lossy; Quicktime Photo JPEG (3/10)
Lastly, Photo JPEG; the least favourable. Honestly, with today’s standard for videos you would never really make use of this kind of compression, unless your purpose was for an actual bad quality video. This format is also known for producing JPEG artefacts on the video itself, which is problematic.

Workshop 8 - Compression (3 Mbps compression)
Lossy; Quicktime H.264 (5/10)
The next lossy compression method is the H.264, still a reasonable quality for most cases. Although not the best in terms of render time and file size in comparison with other formats, in regard of the quality it will do the job.

Workshop 8 - Compression (5 Mbps compression)
Lossy; Quicktime Prores HQ (7/10)
Prores HQ, arguably the best lossy compression file format as the quality of the video seems almost lossless. Again, given the file format’s render time, file size, and overall quality; a clear choice. The render time was in the top 3 formats, however it didn’t have the best file size, but in the perspective of lossy file types and it’s actual quality it’s still a good choice.

Workshop 8 - Compression (full quality)
Lossless; Quicktime TIFF LZW (10/10)
For the lossless compression I have deemed the ‘Quicktime TIFF LZW’ the most efficient file format due to a number of factors. Considerations included render time, file size, and video quality. Though the render time was 3-4 minutes longer than some other favourable options, the overall file size and quality far out weigh the additional wait.
