Almost everyone who's ever worked for Donald Trump, whether in the Trump Organization or the White House, has emerged from the experience with a negative opinion of the man. So it's little wonder that dozens of Trump's erstwhile subordinates — from his former fixer Michael Cohen (who has called Trump a racist, a liar, a con man and a cheat) to his 2020 campaign manager Bill Stepien (who quit the campaign because he didn't think "what was happening was necessarily honest or professional") to his one-time chief of staff John Kelly (who said Trump was "the most flawed person" he ever met) — have since become scathingly critical of Trump, with many testifying under oath against him.

The reason? Trump is an absolutely horrible person to have as your boss, and almost no one leaves his employ on good terms. This is because Trump is an overbearing, vindictive man who belittles those who work for him, micromanages their efforts, demands their unquestioning loyalty (but doesn't return it), and occasionally orders them to commit crimes on his behalf.

Those who've worked for him say he is far from the cool-headed, decisive manager he portrayed on TV's The Apprentice. As Politico reported back in 2016,

Throughout his career, according to people who know him, Trump’s ego has grown and his patience has dwindled, intensifying his tendencies toward imperiousness and impetuousness.

Invariably, after staff members either quit in disgust or are fired (always by someone else on Trump's orders), his massive ego requires him to humiliate them out of spite. Take a look at some of the nasty insults he hurled at  those he appointed to senior positions in his administration after they ceased being on his good side.

Last year, when the former guy still lurked in the White House, the Pew Research Center undertook a 13-nation survey of America's reputation in the world. Here's how they summarized their results.

In several countries, the share of the public with a favorable view of the U.S. is as low as it has been at any point since the Center began polling on this topic nearly two decades ago.

For instance, just 41% in the UK held a favorable opinion of the US (the lowest percentage there ever). In France, only 31% had a positive view of the US, the lowest since the bad, old days of the Iraq war. And the Germans liked us even less — only 26% rated the US favorably.

The cause of our worldwide unpopularity, of course, was the near-universal distrust and loathing of Darnold Trump. For example, a mere 9% of Belgians reported having confidence in Trump to do the right thing in world affairs. And only a quarter of Japanese expressed confidence in him. Here's Pew's 2020 report again.

Since Donald Trump took office as president, the image of the United States has suffered across many regions of the globe. America’s reputation has declined further over the past year among many key allies and partners.

That drop-off was due mainly to Trump's comprehensive lack of leadership in handling the coronavirus pandemic. Across the 13 nations Pew surveyed, a median of just 15% said the US had done a good job dealing with the outbreak.

But now that a raving narcissistic lunatic is no longer in the Oval Office, all that seems to have changed. A new Morning Consult poll shows that with Joe Biden president US net popularity is up 30 points in the UK, 32 in Canada, 37 in France, 39 in Japan, and 47 in Germany, with China and South Korea the only countries whose view of the U.S. has worsened. University of Kansas historian Dr. David Farber explains it this way.

People in many nations around the world are, I think, hopeful, that the election of Joe Biden marks a rejection of Trump’s ‘America First’ bullying and go-it-alone international policies and a return to a more collaborative, pro-democracy approach to international affairs.

After four years of Trump's disengagement from the world community, his abuse of our allies and his coddling of dictators, it will take time for Biden to repair the damage to our international standing. But it's good to know the world is willing to forgive our (temporary, one hopes) lapse in judgment.
