I've seen a few ppl talk about this but I'd also like to!!! so!!!!
Jason and Annabeth would've made better "rivals" out of the seven than Percy and Jason.
if it is absolutely necessary to have a set of rivals in the seven, which it really isn't, it would've made more sense for Jason and Annabeth.
okay, I know Jason and Percy are children of the big three, Zeus and Poseidon, who don't really get along, but why does that mean Percy and Jason can't? if they'd had more time and weren't basically brainwashed into disliking each other, I think they'd have become really close friends.
Percy's humour evens out Jason's lack thereof (though he definitely does have a sense of humour in there somewhere, he was just never given the chance to find it), and as we saw a few times, they were really powerful when they fought together. Jason is logical and cautious, Percy is impulsive and quick. they even each other out. if anything, they should've been closer friends than any of the seven.
ok, back to the rivalry. so, it's said multiple times during MoA that Annabeth never really trusted Jason. she thought (correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a while since I read the books) Jason was too controlled and quiet.
also, Jason and Annabeth probably have more in common than any other duo from the seven, and that's not even their physical descriptions.
they're both smart and logical, preferring to think things through properly before making decisions, and they both use this during battle, for example.
Annabeth never really trusting Jason could've also added to their rivalry; it would've made her more apprehensive of everything he said, right? so, just imagine the seven getting into a rough situation and needing somebody with brains to figure it out. of course, we have Annabeth, daughter of Athena, who's known for being smart; but you also have Jason, son of Jupiter, who is cautious, careful, and logical. imagine they come to different conclusions, and argue about which is right.
their rivalry would've been so cool! two super smart people getting different answers for the same situation, both seemingly right, but who's do the seven follow through with? the natural choice would be Annabeth, who is, again, a daughter of Athena, who is the goddess of wisdom. it could've added to the story; having Leo and Piper side with Jason's answer, for example, and having Frank, Hazel, and Percy side with Annabeth.
but with Percy and Jason's so-called "rivalry," that really made no sense because they hardly knew each other, it's just two awkward and powerful 16 year olds, whose dislike for each other stems from their godly parents not getting along. it makes no sense. especially because Percy isn't the type of person to judge people based on their godly parents, so why would he have a pointless rivalry with someone just because his dad and their dad aren't exactly best friends? it doesn't seem like a very Percy Jackson thing to do, in my opinion.
so yeah. I think it would've made more sense to put a rivalry between two characters who have more in common, over two people who literally met yesterday and don't know anything about each other (except, of course, Jason hearing about the 'all-powerful Percy Jackson' stuff from CHB). I really do think that a rivalry in general wasn't necessary, and it didn't really add anything solid to the plot or storyline.

The saddest thing I've heard is that despite being called Would've Could've Should've, only Would've and Could've are used because all the Should'ves are in Dear John

1) Ew.  2) Ladies, Taylor has warned you not to dance with the Devil. Listen to her! Heck, listen to Jessica Simpson as well. I am sure there are more women who’ve tried to warn others too.

The subtle "fuck you" in clarifying what "you paint me a blue sky then go back and turn it to rain" actually means, the subtle way she calls him a fucking moron for not understanding why she was so upset over their break-up by spelling it out for everyone who abused her and gaslit her, called her a whore for holding him accountable for dating a 19 year old at his big age, would've could've should've song of the fucking century.

i think in amnesia rebirth instead of you having to fix an elevator after a man steals your baby from you and leaves to offer her up to a goddess-queen for repentance in your name you should instead hulk tf out and climb up the elevator shaft and run on all fours to kill him. for like. a game where you have been hulking out and killing monsters from getting too angry or scared instead of dying. like i think actually losing the baby who's been keeping you going the whole game and is the only one in your family you have left should make her go immediately insane and hulk out, for someone who's been like. hulking out by accident because it got too dark in a room for too long and she got too scared from it. thats my biggest gripe with the game. also it would be cool to actually PLAY a little as the quasi-ghoul you transform into instead of being shown like a cutscene of her running around for once

i also just don't understand the neurochemical theory for ADHD i guess. i mean, as far as i can tell, stimulants have genuinely helped me a lot, especially with sensory overload and being able to activate focus at will more often. but they haven't changed the core part of me that just goes too fast, if that makes sense. when i was a kid, most of the adults around me were convinced that (and it sounds fucking stupid, sorry, i promise i am not making this up) i was like... so smart that i had excess neurons that fired so much it caused literally every symptom of ADHD you can imagine. sensory overload was because i had like, heightened senses and took in too much data, talking fast and on a train of thought was because i just thought faster than other people, stuff like that. it's definitely a lot better than being told i'm stupid and defective (though i got a fair bit of that too, depending on the adult), but pretty obviously pseudoscientific and also the reason i didn't get diagnosed till age 16 despite the extremely obvious flags i was throwing up. regardless, that explanation that my brain was simply structured differently, that i basically took in too much data too fast, always spoke to me a lot more than the idea that it's caused by my dopamine receptors only. i just don't generally link most of my symptoms to my emotions or adrenaline levels most of the time. certainly it plays a part, but the way i talk, the sensory stuff, and the way i learn and process new information seems to be largely unexplainable with dopamine levels.
#i suppose i am kind of also just describing autism#and it's entirely possible that i just have comorbidity going on#but psychiatry is far from an exact science and i can't help but wonder if there's more to it than brain chemicals and maybe its more to do#with electrical signals. god that sounds dumb i need to learn neuroscience#i hate gifted kid shit man it's so stupid. i had a good teacher for most of it that mostly just had us do like#typical stuff for autistic kids tbh. different puzzles and logic games some sensory stuff#she did a lot of cool stuff with different tests she had us take about learning styles and whatnot#but it's stuff most other kids could've benefited from so there was no real need to have it be its own program#also you got in on an iq test but got kicked out if your grades dropped which is dumb and kinda defeats the purpose#they probably should've given everyone iq tests at the beginning of each year and based it on that#...scientific legitimacy of iq aside#i do think there is some merit to the sort of horseshoe theory of intelligence they used#it was basically an ese class for high functioning adhd and autistic kids#and maybe high intelligence does cause neurodivergent symptoms but ive yet to find valid data to prove it#i mean i think most of the other kids wouldve found it boring but only with that one teacher#later teachers that my siblings had just had kids do projects and research stuff#i do think i would've acted out a lot more without that as an outlet for the ole noodle. also helped w executive dysfunction a ton#it just. could have been a regular ese class for kids w/o intellectual disabilities. the gifted label is dumb

Actually Would've Could've Should've and Ivy do do well together because that was part of both-all situations. Taylor's smart. Not the way I see those songs in my own life but still.
i think they worked so well together. like you can read ivy as the precursor to wcs— the religious imagery, the hopeful secrecy of ivy leading to the loss of privacy in wcs, and now i’m covered in you leading to years of tearing down our banners. ivy accepts a corrosive force, wcs deals with its consequences.
but i think you can also see ivy as the escape from wouldve couldve shouldve. wcs details this loss of faith, and the protagonists of ivy meet in a faith forgotten land. in wcs, taylor is surrounded by man made structures, stained glass windows and tombs, leading to ivy covering a house of stone.

You're as Cold as Ice
Martyn knew Scott was a playful fellow, and he knew he used his powers for mischief. Somehow, though, this still surprised him.
ANOTHER fic i wouldve posted on anon if it werent so short . based off this hc , where martyn freezes when surprised ^_^
word count: 485 | warnings: none | overall: majorwood , the sillies of all time
"Go on then..." Martyn groused, nudging a bucket of powdered snow at a few of his Colins. Two sniffed, but none of them ate. "C'mon! What else are you eating in the mountains anyways? I've given you everything else I've got!"
The Colins seemed unimpressed by this little tirade. To be fair, Martyn thought with a huff, they seemed fine enough just not eating. Maybe they didn't have to? But then how-?
Martyn's hood fell down- no, got pulled down- and he startled. He turned, being met with a quickly dissipating flash of orange and an impish giggle. He sighed with a smile.
"Scott, I saw you."
A pause. He saw another flash of orange behind him, reflected in the ice.
"No you didn't," said Scott’s voice- though Martyn couldn't turn in time to see him.
"Oh, c'mon," Martyn scoffed when Scott had disappeared once again. "All you're doing is tiring yourself out, you know. If you've got something to say, y'can just say it!"
Martyn waited for a moment, one longer than the previous, before he heard the quiet sound, began to twist around-
But Scott’s hands went to his waist, and suddenly a soft kiss was placed to Martyn's cheek.
Martyn was frozen before he realized- as tended to happen when he was surprised or otherwise frazzled- but now was an incredibly inopportune time for that to take effect. Scott had managed to move quick enough that his face hadn't got stuck in the ice block, but his hands weren't as lucky. Martyn could make out a muffled laugh and a surprised "Martyn!" as Scott tried to pull his arms free. Martyn would've cringed had his face not been stuck in an embarrassing look of shock.
Finally, finally, the effect wore off. Scott stumbled back, cackling with laughter as Martyn turned to give him a nasty look.
"Quit laughing!" said Martyn which, in retrospect, he should've known would only make Scott laugh louder. "You can't just do that, alright?"
"I didn't know-" Scott wheezed. Martyn folded his arm as he waited for the other to get it together enough to speak.
"I didn't know you'd freeze like that," he said. Then, with a remaining chuckle, "Usually people get hotter when they're flustered."
"Well, clearly I'm hot enough already," it was basically an automatic response on Martyn's part. Scott cooed a little laugh.
"Aw, that's true..." he hummed. Then, after a moment, "I'll have to try that again sometime, that was adorable-"
""Adorable-?'"
"I wish I could've seen your face."
"You will absolutely not be doing that again, I'll learn to spot you in seconds if you even try."
"Aw, you don't like my kisses, Martyn?" Scott asked, stepping forward with a frown.
"Uh-" Well.
Scott giggled again, then, and gave Martyn a little boop on his nose.
"Careful," he said with a grin, opening a portal behind himself, "You're getting a little frosty."

God his 'apology' is dogshit. I could've come up with something better on no sleep and delirious from a fucking fever.
How do you make an apology and forget to apologise? Bro would've been better off having a PR team write a statement or even waiting a few more days so he could bounce it off of other people and improve it.
Do I think he's made changes to his behaviour? Maybe. There could be a tiny chance that he just focussed on the wrong thing in his tweet but meant well. I don't particularly believe that narrative but there is a chance that that was the case.
Does that make this statement / apology acceptable in any way? No.
He didn't properly address what he did and he never apologised or really recognised the harm he did to Shelby. Instead he made it about himself and how much he's theoretically grown. That was the exact opposite of what he should've done.
This apology seem's half baked at best and a simple statement saying 'I will address this once I get some stuff together and can format this correctly' wouldve been better than what he's done.
I'm not here to tell you who you can and cannot support. I recognise that many people are probably far more invested in Wilbur and Lovejoy than I am. But as someone who's been around since Soothouse I will say that I won't be supporting him any more.
I will continue to write his character but as far as anything else goes, thats it.
Wanna watch his videos? Get an adblocker. Wanna listen to his music? Download it or find a video of it uploaded somewhere else.
Stand with victims. Support Shelby. He made his own 'apology' about himself rather than the victim so make sure you don't do the same. Don't make excuses for a man that can't see or understand the fault in his own actions.
