I was in a store, and there were these two white cis dudes in polo shirts. They had a sort of useless look to them, so I figured they might be district managers for the store chain.

"Excuse me, do you work here?"

"No, but I can help you. What do you need?" Again, he looked basically useless, so I guessed the only way this man could be helpful to me would be if he had store information. So I sallied forth.

"I was just wondering if these ladders are part of the 50% off sale."

He proceeded to tell me his opinion about the quality and price of the ladders. He seemed to be unaware that ladders had weight capacity ratings and that the ones that were sturdier cost more. This was not helpful.

He went on to add, "You shouldn't be on a ladder anyway."

"Oh? Why's that? "

"Because they're dangerous."

"Then how the fuck am I supposed to get my work done? "

So that was cisman 1.

But *then* I post in frustration about it to my faceybook, and a lovely, kind, progressive liberal amab friend of mine replies in an attempt to be supportive, with one of those bizarro cartoon violence revenge fantasies about swinging the ladder around and decapitating the offending man.

Why? Why do men think that if I'm tired of men acting in the way society has taught then to act, that what I need is a fantasy about physically violent responses to petty annoyances? Didn't I *just say* I was fed up with the way men are trained to behave? Why would they do *more* of that?

I know a lot of lesbians in their 60s and 70s, who in the past were married to men. The older I get, the less and less willing I am to just let men's behavior slide. It helps that I've recently started seeing a woman who is a little older than me. Damn it's SO REFRESHING!
