Now, Janey hated many things. Some of them she could share out loud: Vault Tec, the Enclave, cowards, her many enemies, radiation sickness, roach meat, and more. She also hated things she could not say out loud, not because her raiders would ditch her for it, they were ready to die for her regardless, but because she didn't want to admit it to herself: unfair fights, the way people treated ghouls and synths before even talking to them, punishments that in her opinion went too far. Putting someone in a fucking grave for decades was a punishment that went too far. It was also something Dom Pedro had done, and he was someone she'd share her hate for.

One of the many reasons, besides wanting to get a hold of the scientist to make sure he'd get to Moldaver, why she had Roy and Pat dig the ghoul out that night; she was stronger than the both of them, but she had to keep some distance in case he jumped out of there as a feral one and needed someone to end his misery. Her minigun was hanging from a strap around her shoulder as always, but her hand was close to the gun to do a cleaner job.

And then they opened it for him and stepped back. There was no immediate growling and attempting to pounce out of the coffin to get to her, so she assumed he hadn't gone feral. "Guns down, he's fine," she told her men, who lowered it and returned to her. "Hey. I'm not with Dom Pedro," she warned, so that he wouldn't attack her for the wrong reason - she would in his place, if she thought someone had been sent by her mother, even if it meant getting killed next. "I'm gonna get straight to the point. I'm getting you out of there for two reasons: one, I hate that fucker and I want him to suffer. Two, coffins are for the dead. That said, I've been told you are the best tracker we can find on this side of the Wasteland, so if you are interested I've got a job worth a lot of caps. If you are not interested, good-fucking-bye, good luck and I hope you kill that son of a bitch." Given her pitch, Janey waited for a response; if he wanted to hear more she'd give details, otherwise no point in wasting more breath.

Ekko and jinx form an unlikely temporary truce to escape a literal pit, Silco gets assassinated, and chaos ensues as it's open season on his hex stone-thieving daughter - and on the Firelights who have the audacity to steal her right out under the nose of everyone else. A slow journey of redemption, rehabilitation and hope for a better ending.

🖤 Roleswap AU - formed off the basis that the events of Act I went a little differently, and it was Ekko who accidentally caused a fatal explosion trying to help buy his friends time to escape + was found by Silco. Featuring Powder as the Firelights leader (with her own stylistic flair of course) and Ekko as Silco's dangerously tech-savvy weapons inventing ward with Issues™️

They had been left to themselves, if only because no one who had ever known her for more than a couple of hours wanted to ruin the incredibly rare sight of a smiling Janey, even though her distinctly visible delight came from having murdered a bunch of enemy raiders together. She wasn't sure if he'd have preferred to avoid that sort of thing, but she saw no point in pretending all of the sudden to be a damsel in distress with clean hands, and had just dug in with the usual violence.

"This is one hell of a way to do 'family bonding', dad," she pointed out amusedly, deciding to see the bright side, "Do you think if we go to a New Vegas' show it'll count as prom?"

She had been feeling drunk with happiness, truly, ever since learning who he was, learning she wasn't alone, that her memories were in fact perfectly accurate, that she had a reason to keep on fighting. Maybe she hadn't shown it a lot, nor all the time, but it was always bubbling beneath the surface, where anger normally lived. Would've been great if any of those idiots had brought supplies in their packs, though, so she could keep feeling happy instead of sick with radiation from the water she'd have to drink before reaching camp.

"Oh come on," she muttered, lifting yet another bottle of liquor. A little more annoyed now, like she always got when she could only find alcohol and she was forced to decide between drinking that or radioactive water, she went back to her bag to shove it in and decide later, when she found a new bottle there. She opened it, smelled it, and yep, it was clear water. He had done it again. Why he wouldn't just tell her he found some, she had no idea.

She turned around and grinned, a flash of pearly white teeth - the one thing she had kept from her Vaultie time that she didn't mind preserving - and in another surge of affection, something that she had repressed for twenty-four years and she couldn't be blamed for letting out now, she walked back and pulled him down to her to plant a kiss on his cheek, not missing the occasion to reach out and feel how real and solid he was. "Thank you, daddy."
