Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered aired for BTVS season 2, episode 16. Cordelia breaks up with Xander. He attempts to force Cordelia to fall back in love with him, planning to then get revenge by breaking up with her. But the magic spell goes wrong, so every woman in Sunnydale attempts to seduce Xander, except for Cordelia. This includes - among others - Amy, Buffy, Jenny, Willow, Harmony, Joyce, and Drusilla. Eventually the spell is lifted and things return to normal. Cordelia ends up returning to Xander at the end of the episode.

While Buffy still appears in several scenes, she is turned into a rat by a jealous Amy and is on-screen less than normal. This was done because Sarah Michelle Gellar was preparing for her first time hosting Saturday Night Live (SNL). Typically for an SNL episode the entire week leading up to the live episode is busy with work for the writers, host, cast and crew. That SNL episode aired on January 17, 1998.

I'm so happy to find someone else who ships Cordelia and Xander! What are your 3-5 favorite Xandelia scenes? What do you see them as having in common despite their obvious differences? And which other ships do they remind you of? In my head The Fluke never happened (for many reasons!) and Xandelia, after going their separate ways for a bit, found their way back to each other.

The "I understand if you want to see other fish" scene in Go Fish where Cordelia thinks Xander has become a fish monster already

The scene where Xander compliments her prom dress (that he bought her but he doesn't say it and she knows it but doesn't say it)

the moment right after Cordelia tells her friends off at the end of Bewitched, Bewildered and Bothered, and she's walking away and freaks out a bit and Xander reassures her that they can fight whenever she's in front of the Cordettes.

The biggest things they have in common are their ability to be absolutely ride or die for the people they've decided are important to them, a rather black and white view of morality (at least relative to other characters) though Xander's evolves more into a bit of an us vs them as the show goes on, and their ability to see right to the core of a situation, and use that to help their friends. Cordelia more by taking people to task (though she does the supportive thing too at times on AtS) and Xander - later on - more with the supportive though he starts more a 'take them to task' type more often and still sometimes breaks it out (it lands less well to most viewers when Xander does it, but that's because a lot of people just don't like Xander. le sigh)

I don't know of a specific ship they remind me of per se. I mean, I do ship a number of bickering-into-lovers ships, but none that really feel quite like Xandelia in their canon presentation. I suppose some versions of Dramione that I like in fanon are kinda Xandeliaesque, and Bamon has some Xandelia vibes as well at times, some. But I don't really tend to track what ships are like other ships. I have an easily identifiable character-i'm-into-type, but not a ship type that's so easily to generalize and categorize.

And yes, that is a good version of reality. I like where your head is at.

Did Cordelia ever have a line to Xander, similar to Anya's one about Xander always hiding behind Buffy? Because I feel like she did (but I can't think of what it was exactly and when it happened if it was a thing), but I may also be crazy.

I know one time I tried to Google it, and the closest I could find was Cordelia's line about how Xander was too busy rushing off to die for his precious Buffy. And how he'd never die for her (which is a line I love. But definitely not the kind of one I'm thinking about here. Haha.).

Today I'm trying again, and weirdly all I'm seeing is something about Cordelia asking why they're hiding, and Xander saying she isn't hiding. She's bait. And her then demanding why she has to be bait. Which definitely isn't close (maybe the Google search just really focused on the "hide" and "Cordelia and Xander" parts of my Buffy ask).

I actually really like this ep. It is problematic and I don’t generally like the love spell concept but I enjoy this one

This Xandelia scene is probably one of my favourites: he’s nervous, she’s touched but resolved to break up, and his speech? Not super grand or romantic but it is for them

I like how we see people in school teasing Xander abt getting dumped. It’s a great detail that adds to the story and offers incentive for his moronic actions

I find it interesting that the spell calls to Diana. I assume it’s the Roman gods but Diana isn’t the goddess of love, that’d be Venus. I suppose the hunt makes sense bc the girls do chase after Xander and eventually try to kill him as a “trophy” of their love

I do like that Xander goes into that herd of teenage girls to save Cordy

I love the gradual reveal of Joyce being under the love spell. SO gross but the dialogue is good 

If I was Xander I’d let Dru sire me. Let’s do that eternal life together 

NB’s acting was really great this ep, he does a range of emotions really well 

Cordelia is so touched by the fact that Xander did the love spell for her and I’M touched that it’s a vulnerable moment for them when neither of us should be feeling anything positive abt this situation

I think part of why I enjoy this ep is that Xander’s actions aren’t just brushed off. Giles scolds him and is mad, Oz punches him, Willow won’t talk to him afterwards, there are consequences and his actions aren’t framed positively

Harmony’s line about Cody Weinberg is so underrated 

I LOVE CORDY’S SPEECH ABOUT HER FRIENDS BEING SHEEP, WANTING TO DATE WHO SHE WANTS

AND HARMONY BROUGHT UP MATCHING OUTFITS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE EP, THEN IN THE ENDING SCENE THEY ARE MATCHING

I was thinking Jet & Zuko in Buffy AU were the new Spuffy in some ways (Azula & Katara have already gotten a lot of Spuffy moments & they will get more but their melodramatic will-they-won't-they era is over now that they're together so ya know. Almost everyone gets some Spuffy moments tbh because the romance of Spuffy deserves to be spread) but actually. It hit me that Jetko is more like the new Xander & Cordelia at this point in the story. Not because of any specific moments, just vibes.
