Seriously, the photobooth has gotta be one of the best ideas they had for XCOM 2. If only it was easier to turn the hud off and on tho.

i had surgery a couple of weeks ago so ive been on bedrest since then and will continue to be resting for like another month or so, so understandably ive gotten really into Xcom 2 to try and pass some of the time
for those who dont know Xcom 2 is like a turn-based tactics game where you have soldiers and work through missions with your squad yknow, doing whatever, killing aliens, rescuing civilians, stealing alien tech, the expected
and cus you ideally spend a lot of time levelling up the same soldiers Xcom 2 lets you customise and name them to make them more distinctive and one of the features is the nickname system, where characters earn a nickname after a certain amount of levels so you recognise them even more easily
and another feature of Xcom 2 is a kind of photobooth mode where you can make propaganda posters featuring your soldiers to fight back against the alien propaganda brainwashing the humans
all of this is to say that the culmination of the customisation items, the automatically generated nicknames, the ability to make posters with fun backgrounds and slogans has led to the point where the poster decking the halls of the human rebellion in Xcom 2 is this

I grew so accustomed to Victor's appearance that I rarely remember his actual proportions in contrast to fellow humans. Curiosity prompted me to see how Jake and Victor would look side by side, and-

Bobbit's Current Hyperfixations June Edition
-It's not May anymore, but I'm still a bit Star Wars pilled atm.

XCOM 2: Long War of the Chosen (mod)
I've been a strategy game enjoyer probably since I played LEGO Battles for the DS way back when. However, it took me a long time to give XCOM 2 a try even though I knew it was an incredibly beloved game. I can now say that this game is one of my all time favorites, especially thanks to the incredible mod creators. It's also thanks to this game and the amazing Republic Armory mod that I've been on a bit of a Star Wars kick for the past 2ish months. Since I beat the main campaign last month, I decided to dive into the expansive Long War of the Chosen mod and it's been a blast. I honestly don't know if I'll ever be able to go back to the vanilla experience. Attempting to complete a commander difficulty iron man campaign where I'm pretty sure most of my play time has been in the photobooth so it's been slow going.

Star Wars Battlefront II (2017)
Who would have guessed that without the loot-box and micro transaction bs, that Star Wars Battlefront II is actually a really fun game. It's a shame that Galactic Assault is still pretty cheater rampant and that EA decided to abandon the game (although not really surprising). Still been having a great time experiencing this game with active lobbies again. Been fantastic for when my ADHD brain fatigue sets in and I can just go pew pew some droids for the glory of the republic.

LEGO Star Wars - Starship Collection
I'm sure they aren't everyone's cup of tea, but holy shit I love the Starship Collection LEGO has been putting out recently. Lego had taken a back seat for several years in terms of hobbies I'm actively engaging with, but the Death Star Trench Run Diorama just looked awesome and since then I've been checking every so often to see what other 'Adult Lego Star Wars' sets come out that aren't like $500+. Recently picked up the Acclamator set (the giga nerd in me wishes it was a venator, but Lego want's me to break the bank instead) and I haven't built it yet but I intend to soon... probably...

Star Wars Andor
Last but omg certainly not least, Andor. I didn't watch season 1 when it originally aired as I was still frankly disgusted with Disney and the vocal toxic Star Wars "fans", and I assumed the show was just going to be whatever. Welll..... season 2 recently came out, and I kept on getting out of context clips recommended to me on my YouTube home page. Eventually I caved out of curiosity and watched the first episode of season 1 that had been posted to YouTube. Needless to say I was hooked. I literally finished watching Season 1 the day before writing this post so it is very fresh in my mind still. I'll probably ramble about it for longer in a separate post, but god damn. It really is a completely different flavor of Star Wars than anything I have personally watched. Really pumped to go watch season 2 after I've let season 1 simmer in my head for a little bit. Side note, I couldn't give less of a shit about BB8, but my god B2EMO is easily the best "tee hee, funni side droid to sell merch" since R2D2. Idk I might actually like him better. He's just a little guy ;-;

lol, midnight suns has a photobooth feature like xcom 2 where you can make comic covers, but you have to choose from pre-made text blurbs - i guess disney didn’t want anyone to make brand-inappropriate art, frown

The problem with XCOM 2.
If you want to play XCOM (2012), the ideal is either EW vanilla (maybe with slingshot) or EW Long War. The differences between EU and EW are just noticeable enough, it doesn’t feel like a completely different game if you switch between them. (While it may not be worth paying an additional $30, I feel like EW is the definitive edition).
If you want to play XCOM 2, you have
XCOM 2 Vanilla
XCOM 2 w/ Mods that only work with Vanilla
XCOM 2 Long War 2 (Vanilla Only)
You can also add in the fairly useless SPARK -and/or- the game-breaking Alien Rulers to any of the above 3
XCOM 2 Wrath of the Lich Kin- War of the Chosen
XCOM 2 w/ Mods that only work with WOTC
XCOM 2 A Better Advent Project (conflicts with many mods, as is an overhaul)
And all of these have their pros and cons.
If you want to play Long War 2, you can’t be playing WOTC.
If you want the photobooth, you have to be playing WOTC. If you want to play with the hero units, you also have to deal with purifiers (which can fuck up overwatch ambushes on reinforcements pods because they explode), the chosen (who are fucks), and the lost (zombies) in WOTC.
What I’m saying is, EXALT wasn’t nearly as disruptive to gameplay as all of the above.
If you want to use, say, Grimy’s loot mod, you can’t use A Better Advent.
The Alien Rulers DLC behaves completely differently when it’s installed on Vanilla as compared to WOTC.
Not to mention most QoL mods only work with either Vanilla or WOTC.
What I’m saying is, there’s no definitive version of the game. And you can’t have all the content in one campaign.

New XCOM 2 campaign with the tactical legacy content, with some fun new options for the photobooth.  Here are some posters commemorating:
-First encounter with/first kill of the Chosen Assassin
-Randomized soldiers James and Jessica Collins both from America.  So they’re siblings.  They hit a level one bond on their first mission
-Grenadier Schneider having killed the Chosen Warlock twice
-The two survivors of an embarrassingly  botched guerrilla mission

me: * wants to make my tdef soldiers in xcom 2 photobooth complete w proper weapons *
steam workshop: here's a mod (infinite tlp weapons) to slot onto a existing campaign instead of having to start a entirely new one with mods that give lasers n such (:
me: excellent! shall we begin?
me: * stands up, will immediately drops to 0 as I realize how much work making everyone would be *
me: neverfuckingmind I guess

I both love and appreciate the fact that in the War of the Chosen DLC for XCOM 2 they added a neat photobooth mode so you can celebrate victories properly with your team
They also added a friendship mechanic which is cool
But the only problem is that those two don’t work well with eachother, mainly if, say, a soldiers best friend happens to die during a mission. It feels VERY weird to see them posing for a photo right afterwards with the tagline being “and they ran out of bubblegum”
