The death of the Ninth Gate set everyone rushing around, vying for position and power, preparing to take Xie Jiu Ye's property by whatever means - fair or foul - they could.

The fact that Xie Jiu Ye left everything to his grandson didn't matter. Even if Xie Yuchen was - as claimed - a boy after all. Even if he has the Second Gate's countenance and support. He was a child, a mere teen, with no protection and a family vying to take him out even if the other Gates did not.

He arrives at the funeral; awkward, thin, gawky, a mere child facing down wolves and rats. Alone.

Or so the Nine Gates thinks, until they see the shadowy figure behind the new Head of the Xie family. They'd forgotten about him. Forgotten the quiet Doctor Yan who never involves himself with the politics of the Nine.

But now they remember who Doctor Yan was. What Doctor Yan is. And a collective chill runs down their collective spines.

Yan Sanxing has long since promised never to murder out of hand. Long since promised to protect life, not end it.

He's also sworn to protect anything and anyone his beloved Er Yue Hong values. And that includes the boy he and Er Yue Hong helped raise.

He may not kill, but he can make you wish you were dead.

Another of the Yan Sanxing lives series. Whether fox shifter or not, this will be part of his history; making sure what Er Yue Hong values is safe. (I think I need to do a story where he gives Hei Yanjing the shovel talk, because he totally will.)

When I took the second photo, I didn't even know what Daomu Biji was; I just thought wow these guys on my friend's bookmarks sure are pretty. It's really hard to believe Daomu Biji has been by my side for so many years now.

Third pic doll is a female-version Zhang Qiling I made; although it doesn't look like him, I say it's him so it is him. Third pic book was gifted to me by a relative ten years ago; I completely forgot about its existence until I accidentally found it a few months ago, and I was so pleasantly surprised I almost cried. I'll just call it my ten years. teehee

About this fic:

They worked together to survive from the zombies and sought refuge. They were wounded and didn't know where to go, at this seemingly inappropriate situation, love was gradually blooming in the slow heat...

Personal opinion:

This fic is so good ✨ and this setting is really interesting ✨ I like watching them slowly fall for each other in a life and death situation, because in this kind of situation true feelings can easily be seen. The plot is nice, with some logic in it. The fighting scenes are also exciting. The romance is steady, and later it heats up quickly 🔥 (not that I'm complaining, I like it!) It's a journey to survive and also to fall in love ♡ Very nice ✨

A little note:

The author said that this is a new revision, so it's slighly different from the one in 2015.

There is smut despite the rating.
