Practically every vegan on Earth kills animals to get their food. Combine harvesters gore the heck out of little bunnies and mice all the time and that's a way worse death than a cow will have. If I was a cow I'd rather be instantly killed with a shot to the brain than get ripped apart by wolves when I can't keep up with herd for whatever reason, starving to death, wasting away over a week of painful illness, or one of the other myriad brutal fates that await almost all animals in nature.

Some people want, NEED to believe that their lives are moral ones. I’m not totally sure that’s a bad thing, people should strive to be moral after all.

BUT.

Life feeds on life. It’s a THING. Animals die every day, to feed other animals. And the moral consideration of that meat that they eat is never a thing to them.

And remember, a big part of the moral argument of Vegans is the fact that animals can think and feel! And yet, plain and simple, they will still eat. They will GLADLY eat. They will hunt, in some cases just for the THRILL of the hunt.

Because food is food.

Now, are there problems with the present system? Yes. The international export of meat is a dumb fucking idea, every location should produce as much as they can locally. That’s a thing that is always going to be true.

But then again, vegans don’t question the international export of produce. So there’s that.

It’s a list of things that can just go on endlessly, the constant flaws that both systems have.

But between the two, only the omnivore side has come to the conclusion ‘food is food’ and accepted the fact that you cannot be morally or ethically pure when it comes to consumption, because our idea of moral purity is a literal impossibility compared to the reality of flesh.

Many Vegans do not seem capable of recognizing that.

But if you don’t want to eat meat on a personal level, that’s fine. It really is. But you’re literally NOT more ethical than I am for doing so.

Oh, and all that brazilian beef?

Yeah it’s mainly exported to the UAE and China.

Not throwing this in the tag because so many other folk have covered this, but man. The way I read this and went, “Oh, big fucking mood???” And then the shock and fear of knowing that someone writing Vash’s state of mind so accurately means that they probably have experience with stuff like this. Back in the 90s when this was being written, it’s not like Nightow would have stumbled across a ton of great resources for the kind of condition Vash is in. Hell, even nowadays we hear about how mental health isn’t doing so great in Japan. Part of me wants to know, while the other part doesn’t and wants to respect his space, where Nightow was at internally when he wrote Trigun. Because so much brutal, raw, emotional honesty just bleeds off the page
