"Roaring Cherry Blossoms" is essentially a "What if Sakura survived and got her own action game spin-off". The gameplay presented in this fake game is like that of the Yakuza series. Hard hitting and grounded with some Asura's Wrath style set-pieces depending on the boss (to accommodate for her long distance jumping abilities). She's not about combos but hitting very hard. Searing "Roaring Cherry Blossoms" on Tumblr gets you the AU as like the first result.

1- Favorite fic you've written and why: Serendipity (TRR x college AU) because I love TRR + college AUs + imagining what Liam would have been like as a non-royal, non-Cordonian, average guy with a heart of gold.

2- Biggest success/most popular: my one shots do better than series (tumblr top 10 site says [TRR] Night Owls, [MOTY] The Sun, the Moon, the Stars, and [TRR] Morning Workout are my top 3 Choices fics), but I think series-wise it’s also Serendipity? Strikhedonia might be more popular because of all the 🍋🍋 I dropped in that miniseries (and it's actually a story that has an ending, lol)

3- Biggest flop/least popular: ROD Mixtapes AU; I had ambitious goals to write two AUs with two different MCs (paralleling the two sides to a cassette tape) but got sidetracked by other writing ideas and it just dropped to the bottom of the writing list. I want to work on it again at some point, even if it’s just for myself.

4- Most Challenging and why: A TRR Yakuza AU - I posted a sneak peek forever ago, but learning about Yakuza hierarchy + describing martial arts movements takes a lot of time (even if it’s only for a few sentences/paragraphs in a scene or chapter) to research. Also the Soulmates AU keeps tripping me up because I’m making up a strange, semi-post-apocalyptic world and have to answer odd questions for myself - like, if the world has sort of gone to crap and my MC is nearsighted (requiring contacts/glasses), how has she made it 12 years without being able to correct her vision and still shoot accurately?

me, to me: I DO NOT KNOW, lol.

5- Something new you want to try: To finish at least one series this year 😅. I have so many ideas for one shots and AUs that live in my head rent free, and I want to be able to share them with you!

If it is okay may I ask you about Dragon Age: Origins (If you played it, of course and might be spoilery so feel free to ignore it if you didn’t 💕)? I started playing again and I find Alistair and Warden are kinda giving off Levihan vibes.

Keeping in mind that they are much younger than Levihan (Alistair being 20 and Warden being late teens/early tweenties) and not knowing each other for years, they are still the last of their kind and have great responsibilities. (And both can be kinda awkward... Alistair asking Warden if they lost anyone and if Warden is Human Noble they can answer with something like “My whole family has been murdered recently..”

Especially Warden romanced Alistair’s banter with Wynne is cute and awkward and I can imagine Hange reacting like that to being teased like that, lol. (Also hardened Alistair being more willing to have responsibility even if he doesn’t want to reminds me of Hange.)

i'm going to start a real rant there, please forgive me in advance.....

dragon age is actually my favorite series! da2 was the first game i played in a really long time and it was because of that game that i started playing more. origins is my favorite of the three, though, and i played that game probably a dozen of times, always with the same origins, same choices, you know the drill. naturally, i romanced alistair in nearly all of my playthroughs, i tried romancing leliana once, but i skipped some dialogue and her character quest didn't load up, i also downloaded a mod, so my fem!warden could romance morrigan but it didn't work too, so i ended up romancing alistair once again

about alistair's romance btw! in my first playthrough i wanted to save loghain, he got angry and decided to become a king, and then he went ahead and dumped my human mage warden right in front of everyone. the most tragic heartbreak of my life. and then he had the gall to go and sacrifice his life for my warden. horrible. vile. disgusting. i cried so much lmao. but then i loaded the last save and killed loghain (some old man's life isn't nearly as important as the epic romance of my warden lmao) and made alistair go through with dark ritual, so he and my warden could continue being epically in love

enough about dragon age (for now), the other games i like include assassin's creed (although i have a huge beef with latest games over abandoning stealth mechanics), devil may cry, resident evil, the witcher (the way they capture the essence of true slavic culture is just 👀👌) and the evil within! i recently got into yakuza series, although i'm moving through it at a snail-like pace (i've been playing since october and only reached the fifth game, and i skipped 3 and 4 because they were too boring lmao)

now back to dragon age! i've actually thought about this crossover! although, i pictured levi as grumpier and already hardened alistair and hange, as maybe, a mage? mainly, because i thought alistair's grief and desire to avenge duncan resonated with levi's character pretty well. but hange as alistair, omg! now i see it too! friendly and sassy? brave and selfless? attractive and charming? poor levi, he'd be subjected to so many puns and bad pick up lines

also??? hange giving levi a rose??? telling him that he's just as thorny and spiky (and just as beautiful and precious?) oh, levi would have swooned so hard (internally, of course. externally, he'd just be glaring at hange and then grunt something like "i'm not some kind of a delicate flower to you").

oh, and the first kiss? the "maker's breath, but you're beautiful?" if levi hadn't fallen during the rose incident, he'd surely fall for hange then.

oh, oh what about "i'm going to be standing there until the blushing stops, just to be sure"??? hange totally would

and while i hc warden hange to be a mage, you know, a scholar and what not, levi would probably be a dalish elf? unaccustomed to human's behavior and all that (sorta how he came from underground?). although, levi as a dwarf.... now this is some canon stuff lmao (and dwarfs even live underground!)

hello ! i know this isn't ur yakuza blog, but im refraining from followin it to avoid spoilers (also i trust ur persona opinions more than most of the fandom's so im inclined to trust ur yakuza opinions lol). i've never played a yakuza game in my life, however based on what little i know of the series i rly wanna get into it. i'd prefer to watch playthroughs (cant justify dropping a ton of money on games rn) and im kinda intimidated on where to start lmao do you have any recs?

Yakuza 0!! If you DO want to play, it frequently goes on sale and is a great place to jump in (and it's on xbox/ps4/steam). I think even when it's not on sale it's like $20 maximum? But yeah, watch or play them in numerical order, it's not like Metal Gear where they're all weirdly out of order; go 0, kiwami, kiwami 2 (they're remakes of 1 and 2), 3 & 4 Remastered, and then I recommend watching the original Yakuza 5 on PS3 (it doesn't REALLY matter, but I have some issues with changes made in the updated translation where I feel like the writing feels a little underwhelming and they gave Saejima a weird accent that I had a conversation about with the head of the localization team about and he was like lol yeah shit sucks, wish I could've changed it but-- anyway uh, if you're watching it, watch original Yakuza 5, if you're playing I'd say just play Yakuza 3-5 Remastered on PS4) and then watch 6.

Yakuza 7 isn't really a continuation, stars a new protagonist, but is my favourite game in the series (it's so fucking good oh my god) so I'd suggest watching a playthrough after 6, since it does have to do with them, but it's not entirely necessary.

Judgment is completely separate from the main series and is good as well! Highly recommend a watch, it's got the best finale out of all the RGG Studio games IMO.

The spinoffs (that are worth checking out) are Yakuza: Dead Souls which is a little hard to find on YouTube but doable (the substories and side content are some of my favourite in the series, I have a video I posted with all of Majima's hostess interactions which are great even if you don't wanna watch the whe game) It's a zombie AU and it's a LOT of dumb fun with some genuinely good character moments.

Kenzan/Ishin are JP exclusive and are set in the past, so they don't have anything to do with the main series. As much as I love Ishin, they're both skippable, and I wouldn't worry about them unless you're done and want more content.

TLDR; Play the games in order, starting with 0 all the way to 6.

A warning for Yakuza 4, it's a trainwreck and I would honestly suggest skipping it, especially if you're sensitive to sexual assault, it's got a (non-explicit) scene in the second quarter of the game that really triggered me (I nearly dropped the series because of it). I wrote the wiki pages for several characters in Yakuza 4 specifically so that the recap would cover basic information you'd need to know (Yasuko Saejima, Taiga Saejima, Shun Akiyama) so you can read them before playing 5, other than those characters' introductions, the plot of 4 doesn't matter at all in Yakuza 5, 6 and 7.

So basically, what I wrote for the Yakuza Wiki's homepage but like.... I dunno, I didn't give my own personal thoughts when I wrote this because I can't be biased on the wiki LOL but seriously fuck Yakuza 4 and don't bother with the PS2 versions of Yakuza 1 and 2, they're bad.

majima from yakuza is a HARDENED criminal and also absolutely out of his mind behavior wise. but i think it would be interesting if saito entered his brain because of abis shenanigans and found out he was a perfectly normal and logical person inside, even tho he harbors Great Secrets (and probably not the ones that saito is looking for, but ones that end up helping saito solve whatever case we come up with!)

ann & yusuke (from p5) could both grow up to be abis agents so easily. stealing hearts and finding secrets in people’s brains? BASICALLY the same thing! i would love this au for them. like date CANNOT be the only one working for abis its IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!

and finally. gladio (from ffxv) as a legit cop that is suspicious of top secret abis happenings, and gets involved with them, hijinks ensue.

First impression: I watched a playthrough of yakuza 4 on youtube (twobestfriends) and i honestly didn’t think much of him when seeing him first? I thought he was ok? like “oh i guess that was the character from the games before” but that’s kinda it? i probably felt like that because the game kind of is more about everyone else than kiryu tbh.

Impression now: After playing all localized yakuza games, i can safely say that I love kiryu and that he’s my favorite yakuza character. You see him go through some real terrible things but despite that, he always stays helpful and kind. He’ll do EVERYTHING for the people he loves but is a lot of times too selfless and seems to think he isn’t worth much? which is really terrible and not true? He is sometimes a bit stupid but means well… I love that he actually loves children and see him playing with them is absolutely precious. Kiryu is an absolute terrible criminal but a saint otherwise, god bless him. Big muscles but also big heart.

Favorite moment: this is actually hard because there’s like lots of scenes I really like (from the main story but also substories). Picking a favorite scene is incredibly hard tho, so I’ll tell you a recent one that I really liked which was a moment in yakuza 6 (spoilers??) where he meets up with the kids of the orphanage and they all run up to him and cry… and kiryu almost starts crying too ( you can hear his voice cracking and he is all teary-eyed). I love that scene soooooooooooooo much.

Unpopular opinion: I-I don’t think I have one?? not really Kiryu related but I  thought the ending of yakuza 2 was stupid lol? i also love yakuza 3 an awful lot (the mainstory was ok but i loved the rest) and okinawa is one of my favorite locations of the whole series. Taking care of the orphanage was a lot of fun and I love all the kids and loved teaching that dumb dog new tricks.

Favorite relationship: I love Kiryu’s and Haruka’s father/daughter relationship so much. He would do anything for her (and so would I) and the more yakuza games you play, the more you realize how similar both of them are. People are so surprised how Haruka can still be so kind and nice after all that happened to her but how could she not be? She was raised by Kiryu.

Special mentions also goes to Kiryu’s and Majima’s relationship because I’ll never get tired of kicking Majima’s ass, they are good rival friends. Another one I really like is his relationship with Nishiki and even though it took a turn for the worse in kiwami, their sibling like relationship before that was really sweet. ALSO i wish they wouldn’t have written Kaoru out of the story because she was cool and her and Kiryu were really cute together? wtf Nagoshi

Favorite headcanon: Kiryu is not too good with technology which might now be even a headcanon tbh. Like he can use a smartphone but did you see him typing on a keyboard??? you can see it in yakuza 6 and it’s really hilarious. Also I’ll never forget how there was that one substory in yakuza 5 where you had to fix a broken computer or something and one option was just to smash it, so yeah. Old man and computers don’t mix.

The Lotus in Paradise (chapter 2 + epilogue) Irregularity Record of Moonlight

...Since I only finished these three stories I won’t bother with the best/favorite/underappreciated/etc. categories and I’ll just talk broadly instead.

Lotus and Moonlight clearly dominated my entire year. I actually don’t recall much else from 2016 in terms of fandom activity -- in the end I wound up back in Kpop but for most of the year it was all MiSawa AUs, all the time. I’m glad I managed to finish two long projects. Yakuza ‘verse is probably the series I’m most proud of (because it made people suffer) and had the most fun with (because unapologetic badassery). Moonlight caused me the most writing pains and is the most underappreciated compared to my other AUs, but I expected that given the story and setting. Irregularity was wildly popular because people sure do love omegaverse porn (it has more kudos than Dragon Gate lol but not as many as catboy fic).

As for what’s next, I have 8k of B1A4 fic just lying around but I’ve lost the motivation to write it. And god knows I have plenty of Daiya WIPs to choose from, but I’m not feeling very motivated on that front either. 

Yesterday I unearthed my notes and drafts for an original story that I get the urge to work on every couple of years, so that’s going to be my writing project until fandom steals my attention away. Lately all I’ve been doing is reading books, watching kdramas, and playing FFXV (working my way through the post-game menace dungeons for the sake of quest completion).

Untitled TRR Liam x OC mutual pining thing - you’ve seen snippets of it from Parched and a Sunday Six/WIP Wednesday. Basically Liam’s a widower and OC/MC who is not Riley, and they start to develop feelings for each other but their propriety stands in the way.

Untitled TRR Liam x MC thing where they used to know each other in college but lost touch and reconnect a few years later under interesting circumstances

Mixtapes & Milkshakes Side B - Ride or Die duo series yes I know I’ve barely written Side A where Logan listens to an album and he thinks about MC Lavinia Castillo 

TRR Yakuza/Mobster AU - made mood boards and a one shot/prologue for this already but I haven’t touched it in a year other than compiling a ridiculous amount of notes. Realized it will be a multi-crossover fic borrowing characters from other Choices books (one of which wasn’t written a few months after I started coming up with Yakuza AU *hint it’s another book I’ve been writing stuff for on my Master List*) so...haha yeah.
