Meine Oma hat mit Weihnachten "das Nuddelding" mitgegeben und nun habe ich im Handumdrehen ein paar schöne Woll-Eier aus meinen noch übrigen Strängen Cheeky Merino Joy von Rosy Green Wool gewickelt. Ich wickel gerne selbst und hab dabei richtig Flow ( Hallo Frau Birkenbihl). Zwei hatte ich vorher schon mühsam über dem Stuhl verwurstet, aber ganz ehrlich: Ohne Haspel ist das nix. Wie ist so eure Wickelmoral? Selbstwickeln oder Wollwickler? Stuhl, Knie, Partner oder Haspel? --- My grandma has lent me her yarn swift when I was home for Christmas, and now I have managed to make some beautiful "yarn eggs" of my last skeins of Rosy Green Wool's Cheeky Merino Joy in no time. Gammalt möter nytt i min mean, lean nysting-machine: en garnvinda av ekorrhjulsmodell (fyndad på @myrorna för många år sedan) med fastskruvad nystmaskin. Beautifully turned and carved maple and oak table mount and mechanisms of a yarn swift. Missing the spokes, etc. that holds the yarn. The concave top is where the ball of yarn is held.19th century. No swift, no problem. 😝 I started thinking about how simple a drop spindle is and thought, "huh, a yarn swift is just something to hold the yarn and something to spin" And this office chair I've had since high school is perfect. Once I actually upgrade to a better chair, I'll decorate this and make permanent pins (pens/markers) for the holes where the wheels go. Two newest additions to my tools, antique yarn swifts. They're super compact (slightly bigger than a can of soda) and they do the job well. The metal one was made in England. The wooden one was made in France. I needed swifts that folded down and packed well to save space in my apartment, and came across these beauties. The French swift (dévidoir) came in its original box, and is missing the base but that's an easy fix. I try to purchase vintage tools and supplies first before I give up and just get something new. Trying to reduce waste and be environmentally friendlier when I can.
