🔥🔥🔥 - about shipping, tumblr in general, and rp trends

🔥  Shipping - I prefer shipping my OC’s with other OC’s. I don’t really know if that’s an unpopular opinion? I’m not against shipping with canon characters (I have and will!), I think I just enjoy the freedom of shipping OC characters with other OC’s and I feel it’s a lot easier and less restricting? This could possibly be because I’m also very intimidated by those who write canon characters and the LAST thing I want people to feel is like I’m trying to auto ship with them because Kaaras is a genuinely nice person. The amount of times I have felt like I’m bothering canon muses because Kaaras is nice and his kind words can be mistaken as hitting on them is astounding tbh. And it’s not to do with the other mod, it’s totally me feeling like I’m pressuring people when that’s literally the last thing I’m trying to do lol. I don’t know, I just feel a lot more comfortable shipping my OC’s with other OC’s. 

🔥  Tumblr in general - I want to HOPE it’s not an unpopular opinion, but unfortunately I see it constantly floating around my dash. And it’s the hate for men on tumblr. It’s like it’s become popular to hate on men on this website, and that people who hate men are cool and “woke”. It’s not. It’s sexist. Plain and simple. Especially when they don’t consider that there are many transmen out there that are reading your posts, feeling guilty and ashamed and confused about themselves because suddenly it’s funny to hate on men non stop. Also there is literally nothing wrong with being a cis man. Just stop with the hate towards men, you’re not “woke”, you’re sexist. Yes, it’s that simple. I get the whole “not all men” of course you don’t mean that, but it’s still more damaging than you think it is, and it’s definitely not the way forward to equality. 

🔥 RP trends - Never been a fan of when people completely wash their icons out. I enjoy seeing the character I’m writing with, so I’ve never really understood why people go to the lengths to use so much contrast and lighting that it just looks like blobs of a face and you can’t actually tell what kind of faceclaim someone is using. I’m assuming it’s some kind of aesthetic thing, but I just don’t get it. Maybe it’s a visual I don’t enjoy because I’m aspie lol. I don’t know, I just don’t get it.

What are your Alex ships?

Short answer? Alex + women/nb folx. The only gender off limits for Alex is men, including transmen. I certainly have my preferences for ships, but at the end of the day, I’m a multishipper who prefers chemistry. But I’m pretty sure that’s not why you asked, so I’ll do a rundown.

Gonna preface this with a caveat that I don’t expect ships from anyone. If I ship something, and you don’t, I’m not going to push it on you. But I expect the same treatment in return.

Alex + Lena: I think these two would be fascinating to explore. They both have those pesky inadequacy issues, feeling like they’re constantly living in the shadow of their siblings, disappointing their mothers, etc. There’s a journey there that we haven’t gotten nearly enough of on the show, and I’d be stoked to write it out.

Alex + Sam: Alex wants a kid, Sam has a kid. Sam is also the evil worldkiller Reign that snapped Alex’s leg in half and there’s so much angst potential there. Gimme.

Alex + Kara: I know this one’s controversial, but I do ship it romantically and platonically. They’re foils to each other. It’s why Alex and Kara’s relationship is the most important one on the show, shipping aside. Alex is human where Kara is not, Alex is dark where Kara is light. They play off each other and support each other every step of the way. If you look at their scenes objectively, they play to a lot of tropes that are typically reserved for couples. So I ship it, but their sisterhood is also very important to me.

Alex + Sara: Yes. That’s all I have to say about that. They have fairly similar personalities and mindsets, enough in common to snark at each other, and I thoroughly enjoyed their scenes together.

Alex + Maggie: I’ve said before that this ship isn’t my favorite, but I also don’t like to discount anything. My biggest issue with this ship is how people have treated them. They were rushed and unsteady from the get go, and I’ve noticed an almost disinterest in Alex from general fandom since Maggie left the show. Like Alex is no longer interesting since she’s not attached to a ship, or since she’s not attached to Maggie specifically. If I were to write them, it would be with some heavy discussion about their characterizations and much more of a slow burn than what we saw. 

I think those are most of the ships people tend to ask about? Like I said, I don’t discount anything, so other options are Alex + Astra, Alex + Vasquez, Alex + any of the DCTV ladies, Alex + OCs, Alex + other canon characters. Ultimately, it comes down to chemistry, how I talk with a mun OOC, and how we can make our characters fit together.
