The End of an Era

🎉🎉Happy Holidays everyone! We hope you're all having a good start to 2024! 🎉🎉

Unfortunately, we have a sad announcement to make. As much as we've loved running the YGO Big Bang these last 6 years, we've decided that we won't be running the event going forward.

We hope everyone else has had as much fun as we have over these last few years!

We'll be changing all social media to ygobigbang-archive so that if anyone wants to start up their own YGO Big Bang then the usernames will be available. Feel free to reach out to myself (Admin Tachi) or Admin Francie if you'd like any advice and Francie is more than happy to stay on as an assistant mod!

Thank you again to everyone who's taken part at any time during the last six years! We could never have had an event without our amazing participants

A Place To Call Home by @cloudsmachinations

Had the absolute pleasure of working on this piece for Cloudmachinations for the @ygobigbang this year, had my little heart doing flips. I hope you have been enjoying the fic, chapter 6 is out today and I absolutely had to draw this scene after I read it.

Since today is Thanksgiving and all that, I'm thankful for the conversation I had with my sister yesterday that led to me figuring out a lot of stuff for my Stormshipping Cinderella au so I can start writing it a lot sooner than I thought I would because I'm slow as shit. Comfort foods: i love staffordshire oatcakes, they’re like a pancake made of oats and i always used to eat them at my grandma’s house :) i’ve never seen them outside of mid/northern england but i’m sure they have equivalents in other cultures. they are so good. I’m hungry now

Do you collect anything: i actually collect my little ponies! (modern and vintage). I also really like dolls and anime figures, and cool rocks/minerals/fossils :D

Ryoken’s Little Ponies by @merryfortune​ via @ygobigbang

Dr Kogami is certain of the actuality that there are other worlds. Other dimensions.

An artefact in his possession allures the curiosity of his young son, Ryoken. Using it, Ryoken was able to cross from the Human World into a bright, colourful world of Unicorns and Pegasi and talking horses. There, he makes friends with a small group of colts (and one filly) and cherishes the few hours he was able to spend with them but when he returns home, he finds that his father is on the brink of death. The cause unapparent and at just eight years old, Ryoken's life changes. As he gets older, he becomes more certain that those memories were just dreams and the mundane guess that the paramedics made regarding his father's comatose stasis must be true.

Or at least true enough.

That is, until, he hears a voice call out for him and beg that he return to the magical realm of the Pony World: his friends need him as there is a horrible monster assailing their beloved city, stealing the magic from Ponies. They need him and his Rainbow of Divinity to help them, they're sure of it but Ryoken doesn't know what to think as he tries to return to that magical world again.

I love getting a chance to work with magical girl and my little pony and @merryfortune​ gave me an opportunity for both aaa. I also did some background illustration of King Bohman’s fancy home in chapter 5!

I absolutely loved working on this project and I encourage everyone to check out the tag and the @ygobigbang page to see all the lovely work that has come out of this talented group! It may have been my first year in it, but I am so thankful to have been a part of such a big community! Much love!

Changes to YGOBB for 2023

Hi everyone! 

As we see the start of 2023, we’re starting to tidy up and get things ready for another year of Big Bang! 

First of all, we have a few changes we’re implementing. 

1 - While we won’t be making it a rule that you MUST join the discord, we will only be contacting people via discord or email in 2023! 

It takes a lot of the mods time to chase people up across multiple platforms and we would rather put that energy into running things smoothly and running fun mini events for our participants! 

2 - While writers MUST have an AO3, artists haven’t had the same rule in place for BB. Going forward we’d like to change that. Artists must now have some form of social media to post the full version of their art on! 

This can be made and used just for Big Bang - it can even be AO3 as it can be used for art! But we would like for all participants to have some sort of social media for posting their own work.

3 - Something else we haven’t ever been strict on is checking in on time. While we ask participants to fill forms in within 24 hours - this is only something we take note of but haven’t necessarily acted on. 

Next year, the time to check in will be longer - 1 week - but unless we’ve been informed beforehand you’ll be late or have a reasonable reason afterwards - we will remove participants after 2 late check-ins. 

4 - Probably our biggest change this year is to do with rough drafts. We heard from some artists that they didn’t receive anything from their writer for most of the drawing period.

Rough drafts have been finished and handed in by this point and all it’s doing is giving your artist less time. Therefore, when handing in your rough draft - this will be handed over to the artist after the first checkpoint if they’ve been given nothing to work with.

5 - We’ve added a couple of new mods to the team so our twitter will be making a comeback this year! So please go ahead and follow us if you use twitter - https://twitter.com/ygobigbang 

(as we hope it doesn’t implode during the event!)

6 - A list of some smaller things we’ve changed:

Writers you MUST credit your artist! Failure to do so after a message to remind you will have you banned from next year's Big Bang. 

A google calendar for all the check-ins

Your fic should ONLY be entered for YGO Big Bang

Using AirTable to display fic summaries that can be claimed

Posting snippets of fic leading up to artist claims

Standardized file name template
