i love that thing Sanji does whenever Luffy wants to eat something that's not exactly what one eats on the daily, like when they try to catch Yokozuna and Luffy says he wants to goddamn eat him, Sanji's so quick to just- describe how frogs are cooked, like, he doesn't shut down Luffy's ideas of eating weird shit, even if Nami herself is against it, he's literally always on board to cook whatever his captain wants to eat

Ranking animal companions for each arc?

Yokozuna, the bull from Dresrossa, eyelashes, Karoo, the snake from Skypea.

I went for a tier list to make it easier, and it only goes down to D bc they are all such good animal buddies

In reverse order:

D- Gonbe & Eyelashes. That bunny is a troublemaker and that camel creeped me up a little but he did help a lot

C- Nola & Cerberus: Cerberus was funny and Nola was a legendary giant snake, it dont matter it ate Luffy and Nami, that snake is awsome

B- Megalo & Komachiyo: that poor poor shark. And Komachiyo is an amazing bodyguard / get away car

A- South Bird, Yokozuna & Ucy: South bird i dont think was an animal companion per say but the comedy that bird gave me, had to include it. And animal that can kick ass like that frog and bull are listing high

S- Chouchou, Karoo, Laboon and Zunesha: any animal that can make me cry, is an unofficial crew member, can make my cry x2, and can fuck shit up in such an epic way deserve the highest honor

You do have to feel sorry for Yokozuna having to witness his best friend get hit by a train, resulting in never-ending rivalry with his master’s greatest creation. That frog has a more compelling backstory than a lot of shone protagonists

Don't worry he's gonna double back to the lighthouse after the crew sails on ahead once Franky tells him to stop bothering Yokozuna because I'm not missing the chance to have Kokoro and Luffy have a 1 on 1 interaction at the start of the arc.

This took so much effort for me to go off of what the arc actually has put down! But I'm doing it! I'm doing the thing I said I was going to do!!! Luffy is leaving the Merry and going on ahead to Water-7 while the rest of the crew is talking to Kokoro. He's gonna meet Franky early (who is in disguise and leaving to go purchase the Adam Tree wood) because he's still trying to hunt down Yokozuna (because he leaves the Merry before Chimney and Kokoro can explain).

I know it's tiny and small but this took SO MUCH EFFORT ON MY PART TO ACTUALLY LET LUFFY LEAVE THE SET PATH OF THE STORY EVEN THO EVERYTHING ELSE IS FUNDAMENTALLY THE SAME

I don't know why my brain is like "No! Not this story! You cannot change anything!" I think it's because I already essentially view it as perfect. But you know what? This is an AU where Luffy can swim! Of course he would jump overboard to chase after a frog that got yeeted by a train! It's GONNA be different from the original! IT HAS TO BE!!!

This only just dawned on me but Kawamatsu’s full name is Yokozuna Kawamatsu.

His profession is a sumo wrestler. (at least according to his wiki.)

You know who else is a sumo-wrestling Yokozuna?

I think about this ho[oo]rse’s backstory a lot. Like she really waited ten years for her human. Her dumbass human, might I be so bold. Even the people were like “dude he’s dead” but the ho[oo]rse was like “nNeEEeEeiIiiIIIigGgGhhH” and waited patiently through for ten. whole. years. Took everything cruel brother nature had to throw at her. For a man who got stuck on stilts because he was afraid of heights.

and Yokozuna— My guy has been mourning for decades. To everyone who wasn’t Tom’s Workers he was just a giant, stubborn back-stroking frog that jumped in front of the sea train. Locals expected him. Tourist weren’t prepared for him. Pirates—specifically only the Straw Hats— tried to eat him. Little did they know of the inner turmoil under that luscious raven mane. That everyday he stopped the train because he was not strong enough to stop it from taking Tom.

Hello!! You once explained that the frog's name from Water 7, yokozuna, is the highest possible rank in sumo wrestling. Is Kawamatsu's title of yokozuna (chapter 948, last page) the same word, since his sword's name is also a sumo reference, and since he is called the strongest wrestler of wano?

yup, it’s the same word! 横綱/yokozuna. it’s because mythologically, kappa are considered to love and have great skill in sumo wrestling. it sounds fake but i’m not making it up.
