Inky Reunion

He ran his inky finger down the pale yellow wall, then he dragged his finger to the left, then up. Conducting to another line he pulled back and stepped away get a full view of the drawing he had just finished. The inky drawing contains to men sitting at a table talking and having a beer. Two men…him and his old boss and lover, Joey Drew. Henry hadn’t seen him in decades. Ever since he woken up in this world…this cartoon dimension. The man he loved was the same man that trapped him in this hell.

He met Joey the first time at a bar one night. He had just moved to town after a couple years in college then realizing it wasn’t for him, when a well dressed taller man sat beside him and introduced himself to him. When Henry locked eyes with him a few seats down, he instantly got the butterflies in his stomach. Joey was handsome and charming. He noticed and bought Henry a drink. Before he knew it, they were chatting together about their goals, dreams and family. They came up on the conversation of art. Both finding out they’d enjoyed and respected the arts. Henry even showed him a few of his drawings while Joey shares his progress of his company. Before the night ended, Joey had offered him a job there. Henry having no other plans for a certain job here took the offer. He figured he’d see how it would go and he could get another if it didn’t go well. The following week they met at the studio.

Safe to say, he loved working there….because he was now stuck here. Tricked by the one he fell for.

He sighed and sat down on the floor, leaning back on the wall. He hasn’t seen Joey in decades. In fact he doesn’t even know if he still alive. He knows Joey doesn’t own the pocket dimension anymore. That old creepy guy, Wilson, does. Since then he and so many others has been locked up in the pit. Sammy Lawrence in the one to his right. Where was Joey?..?

He often wondered this for hours every day and imagining different scenarios of where he is and what he would do. Even though he despised Joey for doing this to them all, Henry still vary much loved him.

His thoughts were interrupted by the door bursting open in the hallway of the pit. Like the other creatures that were locked up here, Henry went to the window to see what was going on. His mind couldn’t comprehend what his eyes were saying. Wilson’s goons were dragging Joey Drew into the pit. He looked old, dirty and defeated. Clearly he had lost his control of the dimension.

The two goons dragged Joey passed his cell , down the hallway. Joey looked beat up and Joey couldn’t help but feel sorry for but especially as the two locked eyes with each other. Henry could see the look in his eye. The shock of seeing Henry and a bit of fear of what would happen to him. He knew everyone hated him after what he did to them.

Henry watched as they threw him in the cell next to him but didn’t say anything to him.

It wasn’t Intel the 3rd day before he got the nerve to talk to Joey. He stepped up to the corner they shared. “Joey…..hey are you ok?”

It took a moment before he replied back. “Henry?….is that you?”

“Yes…yes it’s me, Joey” Henry replied as he sat down.

His It was silence between them for a good while that Henry almost gave up on it before he heard it. “I’m sorry, Henry…”

He couldn’t even believe what he was hearing. Joey was sorry…? He never was sorry before…? Was this a trick?… Henry sighed in relief and leaned on the wall In thought.

“I know Joey …” he whispered after another moment.

Henry couldn’t sleep that night. Not because of what Joey had said. But because of what he was doing. He sound like he was passing back and forth. After what felt like an hour Henry rolls his eyes and headed to the corner* Joey. What are you doing?” He hissed. “The walls are paper thin”

“Henry? Oh I’m sorry I didn’t mean to keep you up…” he said after a moment. “I’m just worried about Audrey” he mentioned. “She’s out there alone fighting Wilson. We need to help her…”

Henry was surprised by Joey and how he actually wanted to help her. But he was right. Could he be acting nice to get help out?…. Maybe, but at th this point why act? “You really wanna help her?….”

“I do….” Came Joey’s voice though the wall. “I know I done terrible things… and I regret it. I want to make things right….better for you all….for my daughter…”

Henry nodded. “Alright ….but how are we going to get out of here?”

Just then they he heard a knock on the window next to him. There he found bendy, smiling up at him and gives him a wave. “Bendy….of course. He’s the way out” Henry mumbled then knelt down. “Hey Bendy. Can you help us out?”

Bendy nodded and opened both of their doors. When Henry saw Joey he felt hopeful now. Joey smiled at him and waved him over. “Let’s go. We have to help her and I got a plan”. Then he and Joey went off.

Susie: keep them outside the recording booth and you’re good

Allison: oh, are these your dogs, Wally? there sure are. a Lot of them

Thomas: acts like he’s annoyed by their presence but slips them treats when no one’s looking

What happens to Joey in the family AU?

After Henry and some of the employees escape, they destroy the machine and Joey’s story. They let Joey live, leaving him alone with his guilt as they leave to return to their lives. He’s left to be a miserable old man, essentially. He probably doesn’t live much longer after that.

okay, so I don't have a detailed description for the appearance but here are some of my ideas:

- average height; chubby/maybe overweight?? (similar to bertrum, i guess)

- bowler hat

- (thick?) mustache

- monocle

For personality i have this:

- egoistic

- reserved

- pretentious

- smart

- manipulative

- basically acts like he's interested in you but doesn't care at all actually (is there a word for it?)

Henry's been missing three years? That's a long time. How will his transition back into the real world go? How badly traumatized is he? Has Linda found someone else?

Henry didn’t even know it was three years so it’s as jarring as you’d expect. 

He’s pretty emotionally stunted from the loops and has become unsure of himself and his own thoughts and emotions, causing some pretty bad bouts of disassociation, but he’s got people to support him and people to support. Also seeing colour again is rather nice

As for Linda, she actually isn’t really part of the story due to developing it before we really knew who she was. I never had much ideas for her as we barely got anything but a tape reel from 30 years ago and then one mentioning her on the JDS youtube which is technically recent but I really couldn’t get a feel for her cuz she wasn’t mentioned by current in-game Henry at all otherwise. So honestly the only thing I had for her is maybe she passed away before Henry came back to the studio, or they split

What do you think of the ship Susie x Sammy?

I’m a fan of Susie/Sammy! It’s a pretty cute ship, and there’s a lot of skilled people making good content for it. I don’t tend to ship it in many of my AUs, since I trend towards having Sammy be just gay, but I do enjoy it a lot!

That being said - super adorable? There’s a lot of really cute pre-ink Samsie content out there, and I’m always a sucker for having grouchy-pants meanman Sammy Lawrence act all grumpy but actually really care for someone. Let him have little a soft spot, as a treat. (And then let Jack and Norman tease him over it.)

Also leads to some very fun angstier content after the ink, between the Prophet and Alice. Be that due to misunderstandings, Sammy’s ink-crazed actions, memory loss, the ink deliberately causing issues... there’s lots of interesting ways to spin it!

(Likewise I’m also pretty interested in Sammy/Susie content with one or both of the two using the other as a cover for being Real Gay Actually. Be it either mlm-wlw solidarity, or one of them being misled and hurt over that, leading to tensions... It’s an interesting dynamic to read!)

Anyway, because of my usual headcanons I don’t have the two as a romantic pair in much of my content, but I love their dynamics in general, be it romantic or platonic! And now I’m just going to link to inkdemonapologist’s Sammy x Susie tag because everything in this tag is good content.

I also can’t not mention the potential OT3 content with these two included, either. While my personal versions of Sammy tend to be gay, I’m also a fan of bisexual Sammy headcanons, and having Susie in a ship mix adds fun dynamics in general!

Anyway I’m too low on energy to yell about more thoughts, but here’s some shoutouts and links to good content by other people:

I love inkdemonapologist’s thoughts on Sammy/Wally/Susie here, as a part of getting Sammy/Wally to balance out nicely. (The rest of the post is also v. good.)

It doesn’t have an actual proper OT3 (or a happy ending) and it’s more Sammy/Jack and Sammy/Susie than Sammy/Susie/Jack, but I really love youllallriseintheink’s fic Lasting Melodies (and chapter 2) for how it handles a potential OT3 not working out. (Also it’s real good in general.)

I don't take art requests, but as to headcanons regarding Henry x Joey x Sammy, my actual canon-based answer is that I don't think Linda should have to deal with either of these assholes xD BUT THAT SAID,

I do really like .... I think it was youllallriseintheink’s observation? that the three of them in a relationship together has a lot more potential to actually be a healthy and supportive dynamic than any individual pairing of these characters, if for no other reason than Joey would have to behave himself if Henry and Sammy were looking out for each other. Joey’s vision and initiative plus Henry’s stubbornness and creativity plus Sammy’s brilliance and lack of patience for bullshit would make them a VERY powerful team.

Then again, that’s how the studio probably started out, isn’t it? Joey’s vision and initiative, Henry & Sammy’s talent -- with the two of them trying to rein Joey in when he takes them for granted or makes terrible choices. Unfortunately, we’ve seen that under untenable stress, their reactions are opposite -- Henry bails, while Sammy becomes desperate to prove himself more capable. Henry left the studio early and was replaced with a slew of animators, while Sammy watched his workload continue to increase, complained that he was going to have an actual mental break under Joey's terrible management, and then continued working as THE PERSON IN CHARGE OF ALL THE AUDIO AND ALSO THE STUDIO’S ONLY COMPOSER for over a decade. And when publicly asked about the workload, Sammy put on a front of finding it perfectly manageable, ridiculing the “useless sheep” who couldn’t keep up.

So I suspect Sammy wouldn’t actually have Henry’s back on this. If Joey was unkind to his partners, Henry would eventually have enough.... but Sammy might count it a point of pride that he can deal with it, and decide Henry's a flake for backing out. Joey takes things so personally that it's not hard to imagine him trying to make Henry jealous by lavishing affection on Sammy for his loyalty... until Henry is gone, and Joey's frustration manifests in sudden unreasonable expectations for his remaining partner. Ultimately, unless Joey can learn to be better, I think it'd end the same way the studio did -- Henry leaves, and Sammy sticks it out long after the relationship has stopped making him happy.

I just realized that the reason why Alice knew exactly who Henry was was probably because Joey couldn't keep himself from blabbing about him (while they were dating/while he was pretending to like her as a manipulation tactic/some combination thereof. Your headcanon here, it all works).

Yes. Everyone who escapes recovers their memories once Henry frees them from the Cycle. Getting them out reverts them back to humans, freeing them of the ink, so they get their old memories back.

I rarely see the wholesome kind of Sammy x Joey stuff, but I do like it. I can see Joey giving Sammy extra time to finish the songs, so he doesn’t get too pressured. I can also see Sammy not having a stick up his ass and being a little less grouchy.

This is the stuff I’m used to seeing. Joey literally beating up Sammy and making him join a weird-ass cult. Not gonna lie though, angst fics are pretty good. But that’s basically the only reason why I like it and how it got a “C.” The angst fics. Yeah. Sue me.
