Late yesterday afternoon I received a call from a good friend of mine. He was calling to let me know that his son had taken his own life a few days prior. I knew his son. In fact, a couple times per year “Mike” and I would catch a movie together. He was the sweetest kid you ever met, and he was only 18 years old. Youth suicide is the #2 killer of our young people. 13 reasons why is morally disgusting.

I am part way through season 3 of this show and it's disgusting. Not one character on this show is redeemable and the writers were either drunk or suffering amnesia.

*Alex becomes besties with the man who raped his ex-girlfriend. Oh yeah sure. No doubt. What the fuck.

* Monty bashed and forcibly penetrated Taylor but we are meant to forgive him because he's a self hating closeted homosexual. Fantastic.

*Bryce Walker the multiple rapist is dead but through flashbacks we're supposed to feel bad because his life matters too you guys. And yeah he got off with no punishment but his daddy doesn't love him anymore waaaah!

*This new girl chick showed up and is included in everyone's business basically because she's incredibly nosy and rude.

*Tyler found a body and then before calling the cops photographed it and saved all the pictures, and this is the sign that we don't need to tell his parents he tried to shoot up a school? Or that needs a trained therapist to help him not the bloody school counsellor? Oh but it's ok because seeing the dead body made him not want to kill himself anymore. Problem solved guys.

*And lastly the pro feminist in this show who encourages Jess to get elected for student body president is depicted as a militant bitch who wants to PROTEST A FUNERAL. YOU KNOW LIKE THE WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH BECAUSE THATS DEF WHAT FEMINISTS WANT. TO REVEL IN THE MISERY OF OTHERS. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME.

I am only on Episode 5 and I'm fucking furious. I'm watching this and remembering how much I looked up to shows about people my age in school and what a HORRIBLY DAMAGING message this show sends to kids.

"If you have problems don't tell adults."

"If someone hurts you and they're a spoilt rich kid don't seek help or tell anyone cause they will get away with it anyway"

"Rapists are people too" (srsly fuck this)

"Judges won't believe rape victims"

"Suicide will make sure people remember you"

Oh but why am I watching it? Because I have nieces and I know they will watch no matter what I tell them and I need to know how to counter the damage this is gonna do.

If you are a young person watching this please know this show is a sick attempt to gain attention by parading serious issues as entertainment. Don't believe it.

A thirteen year old child committed suicide last week due to excessive bullying. I don’t know how far this post will go. I don’t know if I can get this to blow up, but he deserved better. He was home schooled for a few years because of the bullying and this was his first year back, eighth grade. He was so excited to go to school again. He was so full of joy and wonder and love. His first day back, he showed no indication anything went wrong after. He decided to give up. He lost his battle. He deserved so much better than what this world gave him. He couldn’t take it anymore. The family (with permission from local police) painted the high school’s spirit rock to honor his memory. They just didn’t want him to fall into the background and to make matters worse, the district painted over the rock less than 12 hours after it was finished. This is my old high school and the rock would stay untouched for months, someone made an active effort to ensure no one would see what the family did. They aren’t allowing them to fully grieve. They haven’t even brought grief counselors into the middle school, where the boy went. His name was Kaileb. He loved five nights at freddy’s and was intrigued by the titanic. He wanted to know why the unsinkable ship sank. He was just a kid. He didn’t deserve this. He doesn’t deserve this. 

His family deserves to give him a proper funeral. They are so close to their goal. If you see this, please don’t let his memory fade away. Please don’t let him become loose pictures on a page. Please spread this. Tell his story. Enough is enough. The district isn’t talking about it because they are ignorant of how suicide awareness works. They say the reason they haven’t said anything is because they don’t want other kids to feel the same way. Suicide isn’t some chain virus. Telling these children what happened won’t make everyone go home and do it to. It will allow a real conversation about how bullying truly affects people. It will show kids that words aren’t just words. Kaileb had the most wonderful and supportive family. He knew his sister was there for him. He knew that he could confide in his sister’s girlfriend. It wasn’t a lack of support or love that lead to what happened. His peers and faculty failed him. No one said anything. He didn’t even get a chance. Spread his story. Donate if you can. Please help his family give him the service he deserves.

@9news ... This Story is an Absolute Heartbreaker and Brought me too tears . Jarrad Whom was only 22 years old ... with his whole life ahead of him took his own life after learning that he had a Centrelink Debt of only $2000!!! As someone whom has struggled with Mental health issues since I was a child this makes me Angry, Sad , Mad and So Heartbroken for his Family and friends . Even in 2019 people with mental health issues are / we are treated as less than other and stigmatised by many different people in our own communities, and in society and the World in General !!! There is no shame in having these issues and this young man was on Newstart just trying to survive and obviously felt that he had no hope left !!! #mentalhealthissues are Nothing to be ashamed of !!! I call on the health minister and the social services minister to investigate this tragic incident... it won’t bring Jarrad back ... but too prevent it from NEVER happening to another young person in particular. Why Lahayna is Supporting Youth Suicide Prevention Charity PAPYRUS: An Open Letter from Matt

Dear Listener,

There have been 3 events which I look at as “before and after” moments in my life: when I emigrated to Spain at the age of 30, the birth of my daughter at 22 years old and, the first was my first real experience of death, when a close friend committed suicide. He had just turned 18 and over the year leading up to this, was trying to come to terms with the death of his mother (who had also committed suicide). Shortly after, his sister was to take her own life.  I personally spent many years trying not only to come to terms with the death of a close friend, but understand what had happened and how any one of us can get into the situation where this seems like the only option. I spent a lot of time with his father after, seeing a broken man who had lost his whole family: and I spent many years questioning the meaning of life through this context. 

Whilst suicide can happen at any time, it continues to be a “taboo” subject and I think there is a lack of understanding of how especially vulnerable we are as we face the changes at the age of “becoming an adult”:the work of a charity like PAPYRUS is fundamental for changing such attitudes.

The lyrics to the song ‘House of Cards’ were written over 10 years ago and the process was cathartic for me: as such it has never really felt like “my song” and I never felt completely comfortable with releasing it commercially. However, on reflection as the years have passed, I hope that this could be something incredibly positive: the lyrics may help anyone who is affected by a similar situation and that any financial proceeds can go towards raising awareness, providing support to those affected and prevention of something, which is very close to my heart.

This is very unsettling to me, no matter what these kids are going through we should be able to try and help them. Doesn’t matter if they are going through a LGBTQ+ issue, or the fact that they are being bullied this is not okay, we need to be supporting our youth not leaving them behind.
