There's a lot of old unfinished works on my phone, and it just occurred to me that I want them archived somewhere! Have two years of old sketches, designs, and paintings! Remember not to judge yourself just by the drawings you finish, your skill is also equally built on all those abandoned projects sitting in your gallery somewhere <3

sometimes I forget that my brother’s arc-v rewrite isn’t canon and that Yuto and Lulu aren’t friends with Yuma and his gang and that Yusei isn’t actually Yugo’s and Rin’s big brother figure

whole buncha miscellaneous arc-v Not-Lawrence/college AU notes i cant remember if i've jotted down here or not:
yuya zuzu and sylvio go to a performing arts high school. ("like in Victorious") their mascot is the hippos OF COURSE!! yuya is getting really nervous about rapidly approaching decisions he needs to make about college <3
You Show is a small local children's theater Yusho and Skip Boyle founded together (before Yusho fucked off to go do big Vegas stage shows. thats it's own kettle of fish)--yuya and zuzu work there over the summer/volunteer when theyre not busy with school work.
gong works for his dad's appliance repair business ❤
yugo's mom married yuri's dad like four years ago and now they are step-brothers and yugo and his mom get to live in yuri's house and he's being such a fucking brat about it STILL.
yugo and yuri are both college freshmen--i dont think yugo knows what he wants to do with his life other than 'drive motorcycle' but he's got time (he neeeeeeds to stop skipping class though.) rin aint got time for college, she works at the same car repair shop syrus and anna and yusei and crow work at that i REALLY NEED TO NAME SINCE IT'S BECOMING AN IMPORTANT LOCATION.
lulu is in grad school for veterinary medicine :^) i think im gonna give her pet pigeons too. she oversees the NLBA (Not-Lawrence Birding Alliance) with shay 🐦
yuri is suffering from "former gifted kid no longer smartest student in room and struggling bad" among like seven other things. he wants to get into some botany-related bio field <3 his dad is also a college professor!
declan is a college freshman too and he's got so much shit on his plate right now and his dad may have fled the country but don't even worry about it. celina is declan's cousin and im not sure what she's up to you. i think she dated anna for a while.
yuto is a game design major who recently graduated and he's so fuckign stressed about student loans but it's fine. he's chill. he's fine. he fumbled a bad bitch recently (lulu) but he's gonna be so brave about it. he fucking love ttrpgs.
dennis is a freshman theater major who's already pounced on a coveted mentorship program slot. :) his mentor is atticus :) they are THE most annoying friends in the world <3
dennis and yuri met at a fucked up conservative summer camp that was maybe actually a front for a money laundering scam and/or cult but thats a story for another time 🤸‍♂️

"an earnest unrequited love, wanting to make it bear a little happiness" reference
i have posted about my au a couple of times, it's not specific to arc v though it involves yuya and yuri so i shall take this chance to ramble
to introduce. an excerpt of a ramble about my au: "i have my focus sort of split between yuri and yuya's yanhomo weirdness pov v.s. bakura trying to not kill punch beat the shit out of worship marry johan while anzu takes an irritated drag from her cigarette pov" so it's a whole Every Yugioh Crossover and a part of the premise is everyone is at least mildly to severely out of character johan and mokuba are quite different for instance. there aren't relevant arc v characters aside from the aforementioned two but i can mention some. also little extra designs
yugo is yuya's older half brother on yoko's side (likes motorcycles per her influence), they don’t visit each other often but they do talk regularly, yugo tries supporting yuya and being a proper big brother as much as he can. yuto is yuri's estranged older brother but yuri has no memory of him because he was too young when they were separated and yuri was adopted by leo (yes reiji and reira are his siblings. the akabas continue to be the most dysfunctional family ever) yuzu and gongenzaka are yuya's best friends per usual. yuri ran away with yuya for their survival since it's no good to stay in the same spot with a billionaire ceo guy (seto kaiba) tracking them and a jail escapee (kyosuke kiryu) but also just because he wants to have yuya alone
Tumblr media
(yuzu and gongenzaka look about the same so just the yu’s and yo)
i frame my au yuri with a lot of yandere shit just because i think it's fun and he does stalk yuya + sometimes treats him like something of a boyfriend but he isn't really in love with yuya? yuri loves and admires himself above all but he sees himself in yuya. literally physically because he thinks they have similar faces and yuri has always unconsciously wanted something of a normal life and family so seeing yuya have that meant projecting on yuya became his favorite hobby. and now because of their situation they're in he uses this new forced closeness with someone for the first time to act out everything he's never experienced (a friend, a parent, a lover)
despite how much yuya might be creeped out or uncomfortable, since yuri has been the real reason he's been able to survive, he feels like he doesn't really have the right to reject yuri in any sense, by all means he's dependent on him in this situation and he can't just leave and go to anyone else unless he wants to put them in danger. also helps that he's scared shitless of him both because yuri is armed, merciless, and he would hurt yuya himself if he wanted to as he only needs yuya alive beyond that yuri doesn't really care how he is physically or mentally. the arrangement is a bit of a nightmare though coming to understand the way he thinks and acts, yuya genuinely pities yuri for the way that he is so he wants to help him be more normal and genuinely befriend him in return for everything he's done to protect him and starts to treats this as something of an obligation but yuri makes it hard to do anything nice for him
(since yuri is a solider baby and views socialization through a power hierarchy he sees these attempts of being kind and friendly as yuya acting above yuri, which he obviously doesn't take very well since he refuses to be below anyone except for leo, his dad. the only reason yuri acts the familiar way he does with yuya is because he sees them on equal footing since in his perspective yuya is essentially an extension him but he still by default treats yuya as someone below him, so yuya can't reciprocate acts of familiarity without yuri being the one to initiate them)
also the au is a future diary au. forgot to mention. yuya and yuri are two of twelve people trying to kill each other and have diaries that tell the future. it follows nothing about future diary outside of that basic premise, yuya and yuri are not the main characters.
clothes concept + notes + etc because you know. i might as well while i’m at it i doubt i’m sharing these any other time
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is test thing of a noncanon scene i had in my head there's the rest of it in script because i could not be damned

@arcvmonth day 24: the manga
oh man oh MAN it's vj day!!!!!
Tumblr media
it's pretty funny how all my gifs are mostly yuri-centered huh
Under the cut:
revisiting my review of the manga from last year
Headcanons and fic/comic ideas
rambling about an old WIP
small playlist! (with write-ups!)
First of all, here's the 3,000 words analysis/blog thing I wrote last year when I first finished it.
One and a half years later, I still largely agree with it! There's some headcanons I wrote in there that I completely forgot about, lol, so I'm glad past me posted it somewhere for current me to relieve it again! (The rants were also kind of funny to re-read too)
***
Next, headcanons!
Lately, I found myself wondering about Yuto and Yuri's outfits; specifically-
...Why are they walking around Maiami with dramatic red/black capes?
After some time in the kitchen, I decided that when Yuya was younger, he was really into good versus evil roles when rehearsing his dueltainment lines. And who else better to serve as his practice opponents than his two brothers who aren't off busy making rounds at the stadium on a D-Wheel?
Tying his own fluffy, white towel around his shoulders, Yuya throws a nearby black blanket to Yuto. The oldest is initially a little embarrassed about the notion, but no one can ever say no to the baby of the Sakaki family, can they? (He'll just have to live the shame down from the twins later on... They barely even respect him as they are right now, anyway) In the middle of the duel, Yuri walks in onto the two of them after having finished his homework (or tweaking his deck). He raises an eyebrow at Yuto's appearance, but gets the gist of the situation when he sees their duel disks activated and Yuya standing on top of the sofa in a similar attire. As Yuto steals Yuya's schtick and becomes a tomato, Yuri pouts about being left out and quickly leaves to hunt for something that will allow him to join the fun. When the duel ends, Yuto passes the baton to Yuri. As he watches the two rattle off silly, goofy lines like, I will destroy the planet, the universe, all the worlds! and, Never! I'll stop you, fiend!, Yuto sighs in relief. At least Yuya now has Yuri to LARP with. Maybe Yugo would volunteer too, once he returned from driving practice and hears about it. Though, he'd likely ask to play the part of the hero himself. Anyway, Yuto's already almost in middle school; he's getting a little too old to play with costumes now. Then afterwards, at dinner, with an angelic smile Yuya says, "Yuuto, can we play like that again sometime? You look so cool with a cape!"
Yuri on the other hand, always had a tendency for the melodramatic, his own personal spin of the theatrics he's seen from his dad! Deep down he really loves playing the villain.
(This was meant to be a short description but I couldn't help putting some fic-like sentences in there tehe also yes that's a reference to the conversation between Yuya and G.O.D./Eve)
***
(warning: angst ahead)
Another headcanon I have that I want to write/draw something for is that in the postcanon where Reiji, Yuya, Isaac and Ren travel through space and time together, Yuya has moments where he falters to his grief.
He's used to his brothers commenting and nagging him on almost anything and everything (A midnight snack? Think about your complexion, Yuya!) and his world is suddenly a lot more quiet. In his hurt, he starts to avoid Ren, not wanting to be reminded of what he's lost (He doesn't feel good about it).
Eventually Reiji intervenes and Yuya opens up a little. He's been unable to properly let himself grief for his brothers. All he wants to say is that he misses them.
But he doesn't feel like he has the right to do so, having being the one to seal their fates by personally destroying the one method of bringing them back to life. He doesn't regret his decision of course, but he's unable to stop himself from feeling this way too.
It has a happy ending; Reiji convinces Yuya to talk to Ren. Yuya shares stories about Yugo at Ren's request, making the both of them laugh. Yuya realises that there are other methods of bringing back people to life, too, even if only momentarily.
But it is enough.
***
Misc hcs:
Yuya's charisma and attitude is a combination of his three brothers fawning over his cuteness from birth and Yuya being so star-struck with Yusho's performances he attempted to replicate the movements ever since he could walk.
Being the oldest, Yuto feels a sense of responsibility for his brothers and pledged to take care of them in place of his always-missing parents. However, he oft times finds himself not having to do much because Yugo and Yuri are so determined to win over Yuya's heart (and be proclaimed 'favourite brother') that they also make sure to set a good example for the youngest when possible. This causes Yuto a little bit of an identity crisis (/j it's just for fun) until he settles into his role as the househusband cook.
"All of us... are connected by... the arc of destiny!"
Tumblr media
Reiji and Yuya are supposed to be silhouetted by their fathers, so Yuzu is meant to seem like she's looking at Yuya, but is in fact looking at Yusho. I also think VJ Yuto should be allowed to smile more!
This drawing is meant to be my love letter to the manga as a whole, and ESPECIALLY the last duel between Reiji and Yuya. I talked about it a whole ton in the review linked above already, so go check that out if you haven't!!
I was really happy with the composition when I first made this, especially with Sora/Ren/Isaac Versus the Yus mirroring their duels! (Well, okay, I know Isaac didn't duel Yuto but.... just give this to me)
Anyway I really wanted a fun and positive energy for it! Every month I think about returning to this but I get slightly demotivated when I realise I have *zero* colour references for both Ren and Isaac... Please send in your headcanons...
***
Tumblr media
Last but not least, last month I got brain worms for another animatic/hand-drawn MV for Eve's Fight Song! I'll never ever have to time to go back to it, but I wanted to take the chance to talk about other songs that make me ill when I think about them with the manga.
1. Myth & Roid - TRAGEDY:ETERNITY
Don’t give me an eternity Even if that’s all I can believe Press pause on the flow of time In the shadow of the blink of an eye I don’t wanna fall into a sleep ‘Cause now you are my remedy Now knocking on, knocking on, knocking on my brain Even for the temptation of a nightmare Fate demands a costly reparation for its fare
Translated lyrics mostly from lyrical-nonsense, but I made some changes for better rhyming and flow yahoo!! This song is what I imagine the OP would be in my dreams when it received an anime adaptation, I've always dreamed of making my own animatic to it!!
Not just the chorus, but the ENTIRE SONG (pleeeease go take a look at the lyrics) feels like it's made for the manga please please go take a look
2. MYTH & ROID - -to the future days
I cast my wishes to the future days If we can meet on the other side of eternity… I cast my wishes to the future days What should we talk about first? Sadness and even joy will, eventually Will sleep together That's the way life is If such a world could be granted Would nobody feel hurt anymore?
Yeah I like M&R quite a bit, how'd you know
If T:E was the hypothetical OP, this is my pick for the ED theme, like AAAAAAAA for me it encompasses the yu's story so so so so so so so well, though
And:
Both despair and also life come to end eventually Take this future into your hands and let it run its course Spin it ’round…… The hands on the clock spin around Like flowers, petals falling and fluttering Once we blossom, we dissipate in the moment THE BRIDGE THE BRIDGE THE LYRICS ARGHHHHHHHH This is definitely for me, the moment when the three yus start to fade during Yuya's battle with Eve, their last conversation they have with yuya..... *lies onto the ground in a pile of misery*
Rest of the lyrics HERE shoves it into your face
3. MAISONdes - Tokyo Shandy Rendezvous
It's no joke, no it's not! Tokyo Shandy Rendezvous Even when the time comes nothing will come of it Vague truths only become melancholy Come on and snatch me away now, take on me!
This is a fun one, when I watched the PV and in the chorus Lum was spinning I instantly went wow what if that was Phantom.. and then the lyrics bared their claws and sunk them into my brain and hasn't really let go since
Unlike the above two songs, not all of the lyrics are a perfect match, of course, but I adore how in general the whimsical yet lonely nature of the song feels like it fits Phantom so well!
4. Eve - Fight Song
As the night still refuses to end, let’s dream
Last but not least the song I posted the above storyboard for! CSM fans (as well as Eve fans, lol) are probably already familiar with the song, and full lyrics here, though like the song above, only parts of the song (particularly the chorus) really resonated with the vj brainworms in my head lol Even for me, y’know Let’s make a break for the future Towards the verge of death like we pray for A boy that gave his word Today, just like back then As if there’s no more future ahead
Sigh.... Yuto, Yugo, Yuri................ Just let out your voice Let’s take it easy We don’t even know common sense, so we know the world through wise eyes These overflowing feelings, behold Greet me with an applause
I love the first half a lot, I can easily imagine Yuya saying it to the other three... and of course, the latter, from him to the world! (or perhaps even G.O.D...)
As always thanks for reading GOODBYE I GOTTA GO DRAW SOME ARC-V OCS

@arcvmonth Day 24: Oh. My. G.O.D!
Heck yeah, manga day! One of the first ever posts I made on this blog was a redesign of manga Yuya (which id love to redraw as my art has improved heaps since then). I wanted to do something little with him and my redesign of Yuzu- which I haven't shared before.
I personally don't think a teenage boy (well, technically 4) who lives by himself would really want to cook that often. And the Maccas staff wouldn't rat you out for being on the run like your supermarket would.
Scattered thoughts on the manga under the cut:
I headcannon the cast to be a little older in the manga, Yuya and Yuzu to be around 16. I felt like I needed to give them redesigns because of how different they feel from their anime versions.
I haven't read all of the manga, but what I have read I really like. Mentally, I tend to think of them as Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, because Diamond version deals with the legendary Pokemon of Time- as manga Yuya is from the future- while Pearl Version deals with the Legendary Pokemon of Space and I feel like the anime's dimension hopping follows that theme. And also Yuzu shares her English voice actor with the Dawn, the female protagonist of those games X3c
I really like how in the manga Reiji feels more like an actual rival, hunting down Yuya. Yuya is also fantastic, still being cheerful and friendly while having an air of maturity that his anime version doesn't have. While also being Batman. And I love that he can swap out with Yuto, Yugo and Yuri whenever they need. Them being supportive older brothers who don't want him to learn the truth to not devastate him is also super bittersweet. A big reason I use their anglicized names (Hugo, Ute, Joeri) is to mentally differentiate them from their manga versions.
While I think some characters are awesome in this version, there are a couple I don't like. Yuzu feels very vain and surface level. She practically forced Yuya to be managed by her. Shes concerned about money, which can sometimes make an interesting character, but they don't really give her anything else? Like, other than judging Yuya for using Uni and Corn because they were feminine looking but swooning over his more masculine cards, which gave me a huge ick.
Another I don't like in this version is Shun. They massacred my boy. He's such a cool and complex character in the anime, but in this version he's just kinda... Boring. Being angry because you want to be the very best at a children's card game doesn't make you a cool character, it makes you a goddamn redditor.
I still haven't finished the manga (I will one day!!) That's my thoughts on what I have read. If youve somehow made it this far, you're an absolute trooper, thank you for the support. Thank you also to everyone supporting me though my slowdown in art throughout this event, it really means a lot!

Say whatever you will about the ARC-V Manga and it's ending but the scene in which Yuri, Yuto and Yugo without hesitation or even discussion use the only capsule left to save Yuya, knowing they all gonna die and while sad about it, take the end of the world in stride because they know their little brother will live and have their last words being "Happy Birthday Yuya!" Is masterfully done and atomized my heart.

Dancing With the Dragons, Chapter 5: Plans
Yuya woke up the next day in his hotel bed to the sound of quiet talking. He sat up in his bed and yawned, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. He could make out the words being spoken from just outside the door to his bedroom.
“He’s going to be so excited! Are you sure we shouldn’t just wake him up?”
“Nah, let him wake up on his own. He probably won’t be much longer anyway. He’ll wake up in time for breakfast.”
Yuya got out of bed and walked over to the bedroom door. As he opened it, he saw his brothers and father sitting together around a kotatsu table piled high with breakfast. When they saw him, they smiled and waved him over. “See, I told you!” Zarc said to Yugo.
“Yuya, we have pancakes!” Yugo said happily. Yuya lit up and hurried over to the kotatsu table and sat down to eat. Pancakes were his favorite breakfast food, and these ones had blueberries in them! Yuya squealed when he saw the blueberries, and eagerly began eating.
“Are they good?” Yuto asked, smiling at Yuya. The tomato-haired boy nodded, his mouth too full of blueberry pancakes to speak. Yuri grinned. “Are they as good as Mom’s?” Yuya thought for a moment, then gave a shrug.
Yusho chuckled, and ruffled Yuya’s tomato hair. “We’ve got the whole day planned out. After we eat breakfast we’ll head to the hotel’s pool and swim for a bit. Then we’ll head out to watch a movie at the local theater. Then we’ll have lunch at a nice restaurant, and go sightseeing. Then we’ll go play some games in the arcade, and then have dinner in the hotel’s restaurant. How does that sound?”
Yuya swallowed his mouthful of blueberry pancakes. “That sounds great!” he said excitedly. “I can’t wait!”

Yuya Sakaki/The Phantom Manga Verse Bio!
Tumblr media
Yuya Sakaki is the youngest of the four Sakaki siblings (Yuto, Yuri, Yugo, and Yuya) and was born to Yusho Sakaki and Yoko Sakaki over twenty years into the future. Prior to the World Illusion, he was an aspiring entertainment duelist, wanting to follow in the footsteps of his father. In order to hone his skills, he enrolled as a student at the Shu Zo Duel School, a successful dueling school ran by his childhood friend Yuzu Hiiragi and her father. There, he honed his craft, much to the delight of everyone. Some even said he'd make a good teacher someday.
Yuya was very close to his older brothers as well; some might even saying they were inseparable. He always supported his brothers and their interests, like cheering on Yugo during his turbo duels. He was their sunshine, their ray of hope, and always made them smile, even during the tough times.
On the day of the World Illusion, Yuya's older brothers sacrificed themselves in placing him inside the only escape pod remaining. After the pod took him to his father's secret lab below their home, his father explained to him the situation and provided him with a single mission: to find out the origins of the Genesis Omega Dragon card and in turn, destroy it. Without any more information than that, Yuya is sent back to the past, to a time before he was even born...
Tumblr media
Such travel did not come without any hiccups, as one would expect. The process of being sent back via the World Illusion had several side effects on Yuya, ones that affected him physically and mentally.
The first of which was that his memory was shattered, forgetting many important facts including his family other than his father in addition to his history with Yuzu. He only remembers he is from the future, the mission his father gave him, the relationship between his father and Reiji Akaba's father, and that Genesis Omega Dragon destroyed his era. Everything else is either foggy or suppressed.
Relating to this, the second effect the travel caused was for the spirits of his brothers, who died in the World Illusion, to be reborn inside of his body, becoming his 'personalities' and always protecting him while keeping their true identity as his brothers a secret. They didn't want to cause Yuya any more pain than he has gone through already.
The third and final big effect is the event caused a third of the Adam Factor, a power from his future self who calls himself 'Adam', to be reborn inside of his body, the power causing one of his eyes to turn green permanently. The Adam Factor is a power that doesn't give Yuya any particular abilities he can harness, but one that is needed to fully awaken Genesis Omega Dragon. The other two-thirds of the power were reborn in Reiji Akaba and Yuzu Hiiragi, making all three targets for Eve and her organization.
Tumblr media
Following his arrival in the past, Yuya became a Solid Vision hacker under the alias The Phantom in order to gather more information about Genesis Omega Dragon from various sources. As such, he is being hunted by Leo Corporation, who will do whatever they can to get their hands on him. He also, as fate would have it, reunites with Yuzu Hiiragi, despite neither remembering one another, and is roped into being a teacher for the failing Suzho Duel School.
He uses an Entermate deck focusing on Pendulum Summoning, and his ace monster is Odd-Eyes Phantom Dragon. However, due to his brothers being inside of him, they are able to take control of his body at any time, and thus, have their cards and strategies at his disposal. He is also able to manifest things related to dueling (monsters, equipment, Yugo's duel runner) physically via Solid Vision, making him a rather unpredictable but powerful individual on and off the dueling stage.

I think it was you who mentioned HCing that Rin was stronger than Yugo. How do the other pairings fair?
Rin is for sure stronger than Yugo, she's good with the heavy lifting in the garage! As for the other parings:
Yuya and Yuzu: Yuzu is stronger than Yuya, she has the brute strength that Yuya is on the other end off when he needs a smack. Yuya is fair, he's got some muscle from action duels though. Yuya would like to pick up Yuzu when they duel to show off how strong he can be.
Yuto and Ruri: Yuto and Ruri are even in strength, although one time Ruri gets mad at Shun for being nosy and shows off some hidden strength when she throws something at her brother. Ruri can't lift Yuto though, she tries once and it was cute. Yuto can lift Ruri easily and carry her so she'll smile and laugh.
Yuri and Serena: Yuri discovered Serena's strength when she tried to smack him with her duel disk. She's strong, definitely stronger than he is. If there's any heavy lifting, Yuri doesn't feel like using his energy, he can't lift Serena that well. He tried and struggled because she bet he couldn't. Serena can easily lift Yuri like Rin can lift Yugo.

💥💥HEY HEY!!! i'm Yugo (no last name ) from Yugioh Arc-V!!! i'm looking for my brothers (Yuya, Yuto, Yuri) but... uh, especially Yuri. I remember being weirdly closer with him... probably just because Yuya and Yuto were attached at the hip. but anyway. i'm not from the manga, my canon is very divergent from both sources. i'm not exactly sure what happened, but if you remember growing up with me as your brother and zarc as your dad chances are i'm your Yugo!! but i'll talk to any versions of my brothers out there. my only other thing is that i'm 17 and don't feel comfortable with people over 25! that's all!! please interact w this post and i'll get right to ya!!
Love, Yugo!! :D

ARC V MONTH DAY 7 - Of Amores, Per the Prophecy
Tumblr media
@arcvmonth
Ruri x Sora :D I’m not great drawing romancy stuff, so instead have them in fan EGO as part of a projmoon crossover au :3
Ruri wields Maxwell’s Lammergeier. Sora wields Rabbit Born in this World.
So, at first we wanted to do something Yuya x Yuto x Yugo x Yuri because we love them so, so much... especially in the context of them learning to work together as a system post series :3 in the end, tho, we decided to draw Sora/Ruri instead, since roleplaying their dynamic is very very fun.
Let’s talk about this ship, then!
Ruri has much interest in Sora as a fusion soldier, to begin with, and quickly notes that he understands her metaphorical remarks- and more than that, he is interested in knowing what she means and responding with his own honest opinions, for once.
Ruri feels seen- truly seen, without carrying the weight of being in her brother’s protective shadow. It’s like she’s finally getting to choose something without weights pulling at her. In return, the obliqueness of their conversations gives Sora space to be a little more like himself, as much as possible when he knows his memories can be seen by Academia.
On the other hand, sometimes their conversations sound like it’s fucking Hannibal. Which is hilarious.
Shun does Not approve of this but Ruri will eat a table before letting her brother’s opinion weight on her like this.

Experiment ZARC AU where Zarc is an experiment made by Leo Akaba and his scientists.
To achieve something more than human, more than monster. The ultimate existence some would say.
... And ended up with a very happy lil dragon boi.
That Declan and Ray just basically adopt, like our sibling now. Without really knowing his true origins, why he's in the lab in the first place until its too late.
Both of them are split apart into 4 but because of Ray's protective nature in regards to Zarc, all of the bracelet girls find the Yu boys. Drawn to them, to protect them.
The bracelets letting them know when they are in danger or hurt.
Yuya and Yuzu are raised as siblings, Yushou hecked off leaving Yoko with Yuya to look after and Syuzo took in Yuzu. Both of em are close friends and co-parent.
Yugo and Rin are both from an orphanage in the commons, Yugo was always getting picked on by the older kids for his jokes and them seeing him as nothing and Rin was very quick to retaliate. And than tell him off for getting into trouble, they said quickly become inseparable, best friends.
Yuri and Selena, even with the watchful eye of Leo Akaba on them become close. He says he finds her irritating, having found her seemingly by accident and she knocks him down a few pegs. But both are lonely, and there's an unspoken protectiveness and civility in their banter.
Yuto and Ruri were friends bought together by Shun, being his best friend and little sister respectively. The two of them tease him to no end, becoming like family to each other. She even refers to him as her second annoying brother. Which made him just smile for the rest of the day.
They grow of course into their own selves, but that connection never wavers.

Arc-V 7th Anniversary
Alright fellas here it is! It’s been 7 years since Yugioh Arc-V first graced our lives, and I thought I’d celebrate this by going over my personal Top 5 Duels in the series! This list is just my opinion, and you don’t have to agree/disagree or whatever, it’s just for fun. Let’s get to it!
#5: Yuya vs Barret, Synchro Arc
Tumblr media
This duel is probably the one that no one expected to be on this list, but it’s actually a critical moment to Yuya’s growth as a character (I know some might have expected the 227 duel here but that one serves more towards narrative parallels and foreshadowing rather than actual character growth). This duel is here for one important reason: It’s the moment where Yuya truly let go of Yusho’s ideals. The Dimensional War had only began to get more chaotic as time passed, with Academia sending no shortage of goons after them, but this is the duel where Yuya is forced to choose: Yuzu’s (and his friends) life, or Smile World (the representation of his father’s ideals). Ultimately, Yuya does choose Yuzu, but this duel is also one of the most agonized we see Yuya after because Yuzu was still kidnapped anyways. To him, he threw away both of them by being forced to choose. However, it’s also what does encourage him to finally take that first step he needed, the buildup to the entire Synchro arc of finding his own words, and challenges Jack for their last rematch
#4: Tsukikage and Sora vs Obelisk Force, Synchro Arc
Tumblr media
Ok THIS ONE is the one that no one actually expected, but I really do like it since it’s a good bit of character building for both Sora and Tsukikage (also I didn’t want this list to just be Yuya duels). Tsukikage was a surprising dark horse in Arc V because of how much he actually was developed. His design wasn’t anything special and he was legitimately just hired help by Reiji. However, in this duel we see a ton of incredible character defining moments for him: His grudge against Sora and Academia for what happened to his brother, his commitment not just to Reiji but to the Lancers, his trust in Reira but also his concern, and the tag team with Sora where he makes clear that he never intends to forgive Sora for his involvement with Academia, but he thanks him regardless. This is also the duel that firmly cements Sora as a good guy after about 50+ episodes of him being a villain from his initial heel face turn, where he finally decides that the friends he made in Standard Dimension are too important for him to turn his back on despite Academia being a literal child military. Speaking of…
#3: Shun vs Sora, Maiami Championship
Tumblr media
The granddaddy of all tone setting duels in this series, this duel has a lot going for it, but it is phenomenal for one reason alone: how absolutely brutal it is. Yugioh has always gone out of its way to forgive all the cartoon violence in duels as just monsters looking cool, but this duel kicks it up a notch by showcasing just how brutal the Dimensional War between the Fusion and XYZ dimensions was. And mind you, at this point in the series, it was only slightly hinted, and we later see it in more brutal detail in Shun vs Dennis (Friendship Cup) and the duels in the XYZ Dimension, but this duel has another point to its favor: Sora’s heel face turn. At this point, all we knew was that Shun was going around attacking random duelists for no reason. However, it’s when Sora breaks out his own Evil Face™ that we really see the dynamic at play here: Sora is the spy sent to lower everyone’s guards, while Shun is the compassionate avenger that’s trying to prevent another dimension from falling the way his did. No other duel Shun has ever had as much impact as this one with the exception of his duel with Dennis in Synchro, but when put side by side, this is the duel that stands out because it’s when the series truly begins to take its darker turn.
#2: Yuya vs Jack, End of Synchro Arc
Tumblr media
This one I feel is a little controversial, but I absolutely cannot understate just how important this duel is for Yuya’s character. The Synchro arc as a whole was considered a drag by many, and while there certainly are parts that it feels as such, it is undeniable that it provides very critical development for Yuya. This entire time, Yuya has thought that he could simply parrot his father’s ideals as a way to cope with his own insecurities (shirou emiya much? Lmao). However, Jack sees right through his game and completely humiliates him in their first encounter, telling Yuya that he isn’t worthy to stand against him unless Yuya can find his own words instead of the words he borrowed. After this encounter, Yuya tries to force his ideals again, but realizes that he needs to find another way to convey the message and ideals of Duels with Smiles that he wants. His duel with Shinji, Duel Chaser 227 and Crow all had Yuya learn different ways of expressing himself and further evolving his duel, up until this final confrontation. Deciding that instead of letting Academia and The Tops having their way, Yuya squares up and challenges Jack on his own terms for a final rematch. Throughout the duel, we see Yuya apply everything he’s learned so far, but Jack still tells him that he’s holding back and using borrowed words instead of his own, until Yuya finally hits his breakthrough: Pendulum was something he didn’t borrow from anyone, and it’s HIS OWN WORDS to convey his message. With that breakthrough, Jack has finally found an opponent worthy to test himself against once more, because he’s grown so strong that no one in Synchro Dimension was able to challenge him and his drive for self-improvement. Jack in general was such a clutch character to bring back because he’s the exact type of impetus that Yuya needed: A mentor who wasn’t afraid to tell him that he’s simply hiding behind what was given to him, and rather pushed him to achieve greater heights than Yuya himself thought he was capable of.
Alright before the #1 duel, let me list some honorable mentions bc while these didn’t make my top 5, I do still believe they are important and are all fantastic duels in their own right.

#1: Zarc vs Lancers, Academia Arc
Tumblr media
By and far what I consider to be the pinnacle of all duels across the ENTIRE Yugioh series (even beating out Yusei vs Z-ONE), this is less of a duel and more of an all-out war, the culmination of 130+ episodes of masterful foreshadowing and incredible build-up that results in what I consider the best final boss reveal in the series. Arc V is a master of foreshadowing across the series, and kept giving us hints that something BIG was coming, that The Professor and Academia weren’t actually the endgame villains of the series, and after the cast barely manages to eek out a victory against Yuri, it’s ultimately a failure as all the pieces are in place for Yuya to finish his IMA KOSO HITOTSU NI fusion with all his dimensional counterparts. Every single character, good guys, bad guys, and everyone in-between watch as reality falls apart, and births the monster made by their own hands, that is Zarc. I need to reiterate here that the greatest strength of Arc-V is foreshadowing because throughout this duel, we see the application of the ideals that Yuya had developed on his own, as “his own words” are what reaches to the extended cast. It was Yuya’s duty to raise them up as the Pioneer of Pendulum, now it was their job to drag Yuya back from what he has been reduced to. And all throughout, we see how Zarc was made, how he was so similar to Yuya in almost every regard, and we are reminded of all the times Yuya failed but had his friends to help him up, and how Zarc was just a Yuya who had no one to help him when he failed. Zarc who hurt people because it was demanded of him, and ultimately embraced his role as a violent villain as his ultimate act of revenge, because his audience asked for it. And yet, we also see Zarc have his absolute ass dragged by SAWATARI of all characters, and we see just how much of a coward Zarc really was. The entire duel just has so much going for it: Jack-Gongenzaka tag team, Ray and Reiji calling out to Zarc and Yuya, Zarc’s continued insistence that he’s just a monster, It’s So Damn Good. I tell people to watch Yugioh anyways because Yugioh is a great series, but this duel is so good that I would unironically tell people to watch Arc V just so they can watch this duel (outside of the many reasons I recommend arc v). It’s so good, Zarc is such a fun villain, it’s the climax of Yuya’s entire character arc, and I hold it in high regard as the best duel in Arc-V.
Thanks for taking the time to look through this little retrospective on one of my all-time favorite series, here’s to Arc-V’s 7th anniversary!

day 24 and 25: I unfortunately never got into the cards so I don’t own any.
Buuuut I mainly got into the ships, and I have alot of ships.
So I’ve watched the dub of DM and I was a peachshipper and revolutionshipper growing up. They stuck with me the most as a child. Seeing the deleted scenes of Téa trying to figure out her feelings for Yugi and Yami really infuriated me. I still do not understand why 4KIDS was deathly afraid of building characterization for these characters. When I revisited this series through YGOTAS, thiefshipping is intriguing. Personally I see Yami and Yugi more as brothers rather than a pairing, but I felt a similar with Prideshipping but now it grew on me.I will admit that some of the puzzleshipping art is really cute. Encourageshipping was a ship I never knew I was apart of until I found the name for it about a year or so ago lmao.
I haven’t watched GX but Spirit/soulshipping looks really cute, and I’m a sucker for Fiancéshipping ngl.
I’m currently binging 5ds and I am an absolute SAP for Faithshipping. The tension in season one from these two was the reason I fell in love with these two. The sheer fact that he not only helped her, he told her that he needed her. (Martha did embarrass him in front of Aki’s father because even she knew that he fell hard for her). That’s what really sold it for me. Aki’s arc of getting her D-wheel license, y’know.. the roller skating scene. I justed want more. I’m dissapointed how she was casted aside after the dark signers arc. It felt like unresolved tension between these two. Jack and Carly was also a pairing I fell in love with, he practically confesses to her at the end of their duel! I really hate how they treated Carly’s character development at the end of the dark signers arc.
Zexal, there wasn’t a lot that I remember but I really did like Skyshipping! I know it feels clichéd and forced at times, but the last episode she did confess and well he didn’t give any indication of rejection. Keyshipping feels alot like puzzleshipping, but keyshippers do make good arguments with the screencaps and meanings portrayed in the show.
I haven’t watched alot of ARC-V but I’m a sucker for fruitshipping, and their counterparts being shipped together. Rin and Yugo? Absolute cuties. Yuto and ruri? Blushy dorks, I love them. Serena and Yuri? Power-hungry couple that (fights on the same side) together stays together.
I haven’t watched VRAINS or Sevens, so I can’t say!
