you see the number ten every time you go to your cell, every time the warden calls on you, every time you see your name tag. you cannot take your straitjacket off. magenta flashes in the corner of your eye every time you look at yourself. you wonder if the colour has become an association of you, as the colours have become in your brain for the other murderers here. you do not know if they like the colours they have been assigned. you don't particularly care to ask. it wouldn't serve any purpose.

(you are the last prisoner, the tenth, to be extracted from. you know what to expect and yet nothing at all. you cannot remember anything but the interrogation afterwards. it unsettles you. the warden has seen your heart, and you do not know what it looked like. you have seen the colour magenta so much it bleeds into your heart's fragment. you do not know this. when the warden ordered your extraction, they labeled you as such- prisoner 010, yuzuriha kotoko. this is who you are.)

the warden agrees to work with you. you act out their will. the blood mixes with the magenta on your straitjacket. you cannot take it off. when all is finished, you wonder if the three of them flinch whenever they see magenta out of the corner of their eye. if they stiffen when they hear the number ten. do they think of you as you think of them, with colours and numbers given to them by a force you desperately seek to understand?

you have no time to wonder that. you do not interact with them. you stay away for a whole year- watching, observing. they make no effort to reach out. you are alone with the colour magenta and the number ten burnt in your brain every time you visit your cell. this is who you've become. this is who you are. you do not think about who you were previously. you don't.

you are the last prisoner. you are the tenth to be extracted once more. the warden does not understand you anymore. that's...it is fine. you are still a tool. you are prisoner 010, yuzuriha kotoko, and you sing your sins to a warden who you know has turned on you.

(magenta stains you and what you've destroyed like blood. it is the colour of your guilt. it is the colour of your lost control. your eyes are the same colour as the beast's protecting you. the same as its teeth, honed so sharp.)

Order of Attack (part 5)

You know the drill. Here first, AO3 after I do more proofreading.

Fuuta finally gets to speak. Well, I imagine it's very difficult and painful when he still has the partial thorax fracture on top of all of Mahiru's canon injuries. (I was not going to commute that to Amane. That's where I draw the line with her.)

In this chapter, all the forgiven prisoners (except Kotoko) visit him. I was going to get everyone, but this chapter got so long that I split it in half. Hooray, this fic just keeps growing.

Ooh, I'm such a bad girl. I wrote "hell". I know Fuuta doesn't really swear in the T2 voice drama, but- eh.

I guess the main thing of concern is that Fuuta repeatedly asks Shidou for an unsafe dose of painkillers in the beginning, which Shidou refuses. How do I tag that?

"No, I cannot give you any more painkillers. You are already at the maximum dosage."

"I don’t give a-" Fuuta’s complaint died to a pinch in his lungs. He tried glaring at Shidou instead, but he felt his eyes incapable of showing any emotion past the pain.

"More painkillers will not help you any further. They would be very harmful, in fact."

"Like you care about…" As Fuuta tried to force the words out, Shidou looked back with a stone-cold face. "…my brain is f… …because you…" So many words tried to escape, only for his ribs to stab them all. "…left me bleeding… why… bother… saving…"

Through the whole strained spiel, Shidou stood there quietly. Once Fuuta had been silent for several seconds, Shidou spoke up.

"I'm sorry I sent Kazui out while I was tending to Amane. I-"

"That's not…"

Shidou paused. "Or is this because I kept it from you?"

"Mmhmm."

"Kajiyama-kun, I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I'm sorry I let you find out through Shiina-kun. I failed you, and I should have told you as such from the beginning."

Fuuta stared back. After several minutes, Shidou took a seat. Fuuta stared at the ceiling as the pain continued to bite.

"Hey," Fuuta whispered. "Get me more-"

"No."

Fuuta woke up to the creaking of the cell door. He turned his gaze to the side and saw the silhouette of Shidou resting in the chair in the corner.

The lights turned on, revealing Haruka and Muu's faces.

Haruka walked over to Fuuta's bedside. "H-hi… Fuuta-kun."

"What… are you…" Fuuta rasped.

"I-I was worried about you."

"You're not… Now that she…"

"Um, Muu-san-"

"You two… always together…"

Muu spoke up. "Are you angry at us, Fuuta-kun?"

"Like hell… I…" he managed to say strongly enough for Haruka to recoil.

"S-sorry, Fuuta-kun-"

"Haruka-kun, you don't need to apologize to him. He's just-"

"Some nerve… you two… coming here…"

"Let's go, Haruka-kun."

"But he-he's talking to us."

"…just had to go… who-knows-where… when I…"

"This visit isn't accomplishing anything. Fuuta-kun is just looking for someone to blame. It's not our fault we weren't in our cells during the attack."

Haruka turned his head back towards Fuuta as Muu led him to the door.

"I really am sorry, Fuuta-kun!"

Then Muu turned the lights off as they exited.

The next time Fuuta woke up, Kazui was sitting at his bedside.

"Kajiyama-kun."

"What do you… want… old man…"

"Shidou-san needed an extra set of eyes while he rests."

"Thought you were… with Amane…"

"Kashiki-chan and Shiina-chan are with her."

They sat in silence for several minutes before Fuuta spoke up again.

"Why did you… leave me to get…"

"To get Kashiki-chan and Shiina-chan? Shidou-kun said he needed more hands."

"You couldn't take five f… minutes to keep…"

"Yuzuriha-chan was out and about. We couldn't risk getting another patient."

"So I'm… disposable, huh?"

"No, that's not-"

"Get out. Leave me… again…"

"I'm afraid I can't do that while Shidou-kun is asleep."

"Make this pain… stop…"

"I really wish I could, but I can't."

"Hey, hey, Fuuta." Yuno hovered over him, and his eyes snapped open.

"Geez, you scared…"

"It's okay. Don't force it."

"Why would you…"

"I could tell you weren't asleep. I thought you could use some company while Shidou-san is resting."

"Like hell-"

"You know it's dangerous to leave a patient alone. I had a few words with Haruka and Muu when I found that they left while Shidou-san was asleep."

"What does that even-"

"Besides, some good conversation keeps the voices at bay. Though they've mostly subsided by now."

Fuuta was inclined to agree, only because the pain had gotten more intense.

"Why the h… you care?"

"Because nobody else takes the voices seriously. Not that I can say anything about the physical pain, but who am I to sit by when I know others are facing psychological torment?"

"Shut up."

"Excuse me?"

"You… pretend to care…"

"You think this is all an act?"

"You weren't there when…"

"I told you, Mahiru-san came to me that day. I wasn't going to turn her down."

"…could've stayed in…"

"Look, I'm sorry I wasn't nearby when you were attacked, but I couldn't have known that Kotoko-san was going to attack you that day. Mahiru-san wanted the comfort of her own cell, and I had no reason to object. You can't blame me for things that were out of my control."

"Then don't pity me!" For once, Fuuta managed to make the tone he meant.

"Fuuta, the only one pitying you is yourself." Yuno got up as Fuuta stared back and Shidou began to stir. She looked to the side to see that Shidou was really awake.

"I'm done here," Yuno said, heading for the door.

The only one pitying myself? Fuuta thought. That isn't true.

S/o and Yuzuriha just laugh, while Senku and the rest of the village bonk him on the head for waking everyone up.

Bro, if s/o is ever down or upset, Yuzuriha and Taiju know immediately. You can’t hide anything from them. They would have a talk with s/o and reassure and comfort them forever!!

Taiju very openly hypes s/o and Yuzuriha up.

Taiju protects tf out of both of you. No one in their right mind would lay a hand on them otherwise - well let’s not talk about that.

I feel like Yuzuriha would make matching clothes for Taiju and s/o! And bracelets!! Something cheesy like-

“As long as we have these bracelets, we’ll always be together, no matter where we are!!”

Taiju is in love with this idea. Every minute he’s checking to make sure his bracelet is still there.

Yuzuriha and s/o hype Taiju up too!! Subtly complimenting him and telling him he is amazing. Taiju may be a big oaf but he’s smart enough to know when he’s being complimented. He honestly starts crying a little.

“Yuzuriha, s/o… WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE YOU GUYS??” he pulls both of you into a bear hug and squeezes them really tight. It makes yall a bit teary too.

When Tsukasa cut Yuzurina’s hair off, s/o got so scared. Yuzuriha almost fainted when Taiju and s/o ran into her and nearly squeezed her in half.

Both of you are motivation for Taiju to keep working hard. Even when it gets tough, Yuzuriha’s smile, s/o’s laugh, keep him going.

Is there a more adorable couple than you guys? I think not.

I kinda get where the mother’s going with this, but knowing what I know…please compromise, you two.

“The handsome half” – I wasn’t sure what that meant until I saw the image…”half” meaning ha-fu, or a person who’s half Japanese half something else. It’s like calling someone gweilow in Cantonese –it’s vaguely derogatory at the very minimum.

To be real with you, the first resource I consulted to start thinking about the LGBTIQ+ spectrum (outside gender-bending fiction) was a book about an FtM person, so I guess I’m the most used to that sort of thing.

My thoughts on Dr. Stone’s S02E11 (“Prologue of Dr. Stone”)

(Safe to read for anime-only folks.)

My thoughts after watching Season Two, Episode Eleven:

01. (CHROME.) It was nice of Chrome to call Ishigami Village to give the old people an update! And he’s Tsukasa’s second choice if he had to go to space... he’d like that!

02. (HOMURA.) Homura’s happy to be with Hyoga, even if they ARE in different prison cells!

03. (HYOGA.) It’s interesting that Hyoga called Kohaku brain-dead and was trying to teach her something (how to run a kingdom) even though he’s a prisoner. And speaking of prisoners, he and Homura are getting a lot of meat despite being prisoners! Having a lot more hunters now is definitely an advantage!

04. (GEN.) Gen was the one who brought up the lack of anesthesia, but he was still pretty scared when Tsukasa said he could handle it... maybe it was the lack of fear from Senku and Tsukasa that did Gen in? And later on, after Senku said that he would have to kill Tsukasa with his own hands, Gen walked into the path of the sun and made the room darker, mirroring the dark turn the conversation had taken! Great detail!

05. (MIRAI.) Mirai wanted to know what was going on, and she... got what she wanted...!

06. (NIKKI.) Nikki knows that when your side has meat roasting over campfires and the other side has tanks, it’s not the other side who’s primitive...

07. (KINGDOM OF SCIENCE.) It's cool that Ishigami Village used to be the less advanced community, but now it's those villagers who are working to build advanced technology for the kingdom of science! Plus, Chrome and Kaseki talking about scientific things, Kinro and Ginro talking about glasses and ramen... and they revived Mangaka-kun! (Or Mangaka-san?) The old people were so happy to hear that there were no casualties!

08. (KOHAKU.) I love how it now seems to be tradition that Kohaku and Senku have a moment alone together to talk during Dr. Stone's season finales! (This also happened in Season One!) Kohaku is so confident when she talks about Senku to Hyoga, and Mirai, and... pretty much everybody, if we’re counting all the times from both seasons. She has so much faith in him! It makes perfect sense that she was comforting Mirai - if anybody knows how Senku can use science to save a dying sibling, it’s Kohaku! Not only that, but she also knew exactly why Senku and Tsukasa needed to talk alone during Tsukasa’s final moments...

09. (SENKU.) Senku's spear training with Kinro helped him (probably mostly mentally) prepare for the impact Hyoga's spear made! It’s too bad we didn’t get proper roadmaps for the fridge or for the wound-sealing superglue, but it makes sense since they didn’t take a lot of screentime to make. Even before the petrification, Senku was so clear from the very beginning that anybody dying was unacceptable, so even though there’s a logical reason for the cold sleep, the situation must be extremely difficult for him, even before you factor in his friendship with Tsukasa... For a while there, after Tsukasa’s eyes had closed, Senku was talking to somebody who... couldn’t answer back...

10. (TAIJU.) Taiju’s the perfect person to gather the pieces of broken stone statues! And he was Tsukasa’s first pick for a space mission!

11. (TSUKASA.) Tsukasa remembers every life he took... I know it’s his only option if he wants to live, but he still took the idea of painful surgery while awake pretty well! (I think that was a new Lillian Weinberg song that we heard while Tsukasa was being frozen?) Tsukasa’s last words to Senku about the past being fun was just like Shamil’s last words to Byakuya about the ramen being delicious...!

12. (UKYO.) Ukyo was distraught by the destruction of the statues, but by being Tsukasa’s scribe, he’s helping in his own way, to compile the information needed to gather them!

13. (YUZURIHA.) Yuzuriha’s crafts club experience is coming in handy, even though she probably never thought she’d be in a cave, performing surgery by sewing up a dying person with no anesthesia or anything...

14. (ENDING THEME.) I LOVE that they played the ending theme over the last scene of this episode... season finales seem even more epic when that happens! It’s too bad this is the last episode for it, but this season’s ending song is still so intriguing and inspiring and beautiful!

15. (FINAL THOUGHTS.) This season was so interesting to watch, AND it was so faithful to the manga! Season Three, if we get it, will be full of fun and adventure... a ship, a crew, and Taiju and Yuzuriha finally get to go overseas! There’s also that new character shown in the final few seconds of this finale! As Kohaku said, we’ll be following along the roadmap for humanity’s future! The people who worked on this season did an excellent job! Season Two was AMAZING!
