Essential Guide For Future Filmmakers And Storytellers — Zeke Zelker [FULL INTERVIEW] via FilmCourage.com.
Film Courage: Zeke what is the American Dream all about for you?
Zeke Zelker, Writer/Director/Producer of the transmedia project BILLBOARD: Wow! That’s a great question. I feel the American Dream is doing what you love to do. I feel that it’s really not necessarily a constant pursuit but being happy. Thankfully I am pursuing my happiness and I live my life that way. It’s been a challenge to get to this point. But I’ve got to say that the American Dream to me is literally striving for something, achieving and then sharing that with others.
Film Courage: Has the concept of the American Dream changed for you over the years?
Zeke: Absolutely. It changed as when I was younger all I wanted to do was be rich. I have a very different upbringing where my family started an amusement park. I literally was raised in an amusement park. I was the closest one to my grandfather who built the park with his two hands. We would go around and do safety checks and so I was in the bowels of the amusement park. But the interesting thing about it…(Watch the video interview on Youtube here).

Friday Releases for April 5
Friday is the busiest day of the week for new releases, so we’ve decided to collect them all in one place. Friday Releases for April 5 include Shazam!, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Warrior, and more.
Shazam!
Shazam!, the new movie from David F. Sandberg, is out today.
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
Pet Sematary
Pet Sematary, the new movie from Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer, is out today.
Based on the seminal horror novel by Stephen King, Pet Sematary follows Dr. Louis Creed (Jason Clarke), who, after relocating with his wife Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his unusual neighbor, Jud Crandall (John Lithgow), setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unfathomable evil with horrific consequences.
The Best of Enemies
The Best of Enemies, the new movie from Robin Bissell, is out today.
Based on a true story, THE BEST OF ENEMIES centers on the unlikely relationship between Ann Atwater (Henson), an outspoken civil rights activist, and C.P. Ellis (Rockwell), a local Ku Klux Klan leader who reluctantly co-chaired a community summit, battling over the desegregation of schools in Durham, North Carolina during the racially-charged summer of 1971. The incredible events that unfolded would change Durham and the lives of Atwater and Ellis forever.
Peterloo
Peterloo, the new movie from Mike Leigh, is out today.
Internationally acclaimed and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Mike Leigh portrays one of the bloodiest episodes in British history, the infamous Peterloo Massacre of 1819, where government-backed cavalry charged into a peaceful crowd of 80,000 that gathered in Manchester, England to demand democratic reform.
Billboard
Billboard, the new movie from Zeke Zelker, is out today.
Casey Lindeweiler inherits the only independent radio station left in town, WTYT 960, from his father. His grand plan to pull the station out of the ratings basement is to host a billboard sitting contest where four people will on a billboard to out survive the other. Whoever lives on the billboard the longest will win a mobile home and “nine-sixty” thousand dollars. Unprepared for the spotlight, Casey attempts to rise to the challenge of running a business as he has to worry about his contestants, the competition, the local authorities, the media’s interpretation of his contest, and mother nature.
High Life
High Life, the new movie from Claire Denis, is out today.
Deep space outside the solar system. Monte and his daughter Willow live together aboard a spacecraft, in complete isolation. A man whose strict self-discipline is a shield against desire, Monte fathered her against his will. His sperm was used to inseminate the young woman who gave birth to her. They were members of a crew of prisoners - death row inmates. Guinea pigs sent on a mission. Now only Monte and Willow remain. Through his daughter, he experiences the birth of an all-powerful love. Together, father and daughter approach their destination - the black hole in which time and space cease to exist.
The Wind
The Wind, the new movie from Emma Tammi, is out today.
An unseen evil haunts the homestead in this chilling, folkloric tale of madness, paranoia, and otherworldly terror. Lizzy (Caitlin Gerard) is a tough, resourceful frontierswoman settling a remote stretch of land on the 19th-century American frontier. Isolated from civilization in a desolate wilderness where the wind never stops howling, she begins to sense a sinister presence that seems to be borne of the land itself, an overwhelming dread that her husband (Ashley Zukerman) dismisses as superstition. When a newlywed couple arrives on a nearby homestead, their presence amplifies Lizzy’s fears, setting into motion a shocking chain of events.
The Head Hunter
The Head Hunter, the new movie from Jordan Downey, is out today.
A medieval warrior’s gruesome collection of heads is missing only one - the monster that killed his daughter years ago.
Unicorn Store
Unicorn Store, the new movie from Brie Larson, is out today.
A woman named Kit receives a mysterious invitation that would fulfill her childhood dreams.
The Public
The Public, the new movie from Emilio Estevez, is out today.
In The Public, an unusually bitter Arctic blast has made its way to downtown Cincinnati and the front doors of the public library where the action of the film takes place. The story revolves around the library patrons, many of whom are homeless, mentally ill and marginalized, as well as an exhausted and overwhelmed staff of librarians who often build emotional connections and a sense of obligation to care for those regular patrons. At odds with library officials over how to handle the extreme weather event, the patrons turn the building into a homeless shelter for the night by staging an “Occupy” sit in. What begins as an act of civil disobedience becomes a stand off with police and a rush-to-judgment media constantly speculating about what’s really happening. This David versus Goliath story tackles some of our nation’s most challenging issues, homelessness and mental illness and sets the drama inside one of the last bastions of democracy-in-action: your public library.
Acres and Acres
Acres and Acres, the new movie from Niall Johnson, is out today.
Based on the best-selling novel by St. John Greene, the film is a heartwarming story of a woman, with cancer, who makes a list of memories to help her husband raise their sons, after she is gone.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina S2
The second season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, the TV series from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, is out today.
It’s a wicked world out there, and Sabrina is brewing up trouble. After signing her name in the Book of the Beast, Sabrina struggles to find the balance between her place in the mortal world and her new darker side. New challenges await Sabrina in Part 2, including having to choose between the familiar mortal Harvey Kinkle, and the sexy warlock Nicholas Scratch. She may have signed her name to the Dark Lord, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t willing to raise a little hell.
Quicksand
Quicksand, the new TV series from Camilla Ahlgren, is out today.
Based on the Swedish novel “Störst av allt” by Malin Persson Giolito. After a school shooting in Stockholm’s wealthiest suburb, Danderyd, the seemingly normal 18 years old girl Maja is accused of murder. But during the trial details of her relationship with five other students, parents and a teacher are revealed. Is she really the murderer or just another victim?
Warrior
Warrior, the new TV series from Jonathan Tropper, is out today.
These are dangerous times.
Based on the writings of Bruce Lee, from Jonathan Tropper co-creator of Banshee and Justin Lin director of Fast & Furious comes a new Cinemax original series.
The Tick S2
The second season of The Tick, the TV series from Ben Edlund, is out today.
Tick and Arthur have freed the City from The Terror — now they must defend it from new villains and old enemies. That is if they can convince AEGIS, the government agency in charge of superhero regulation, that they deserve the job. But now that the City is ‘safe enough to protect’ Tick and Arthur begin to see they’ve got competition…
Persona
Persona, the new TV series from Im Pil-Sung, Lee Kyung-Mi, Kim Jong-Kwan, and Jeon Go-Woon, is out today.

How To Find Sponsorship Money For A Movie by Zeke Zelker via FilmCourage.com.
Film Courage: Can you take us through the sponsorship process?
Zeke Zelker, Writer/Director/Producer of the transmedia project BILLBOARD: Sure.
Film Courage: I’m sure each one was different. You said you have 6 sponsors?
Zeke: No, 6 revenue streams. We have at least 9 sponsors. Okay, so sponsorship is different than product placement.
With product placement you basically want to have company X in your your film and so you have to clear it to be able to have their IP, their trademark, their logo in your film.
But if you’re good at it you can get a lot of free stuff out of it. I’ve had directors that I’ve worked with in the past challenge me. Can you get me this? Can you get me that? And generally oftentimes I can get them crazy stuff but it’s a matter of knowing how to do it. You have to know what you’re asking for and you need to give them a reason why you’re asking for it and you need to make sure you have your contracts buttoned up…(Watch the video interview on Youtube here).
