While the book starts on a possible murder, the victim is actually revealed much later towards the end, along with the killer (if you haven't binged watched the show already) but believe me when I say you won't be bored. Big Little Lies talks about women. Their relationships- the marriages, the children, the friendships and even the rivalries. It's a book celebrating the resilience of women, without glorifying them or making them perfect. What I found best about the book was how each character is shown to be flawed in their own way and while you might not always agree with them, you will relate most of the time. " ~ @nicolayoon I didn't really expect much from this book except a simple teenage love story, which it successfully delivers. Natasha is about to be deported out of the States the next day and Daniel doesn't want to sit for an interview, which his parents definitely want him to attend. They both meet on this particular day all thanks to a series of incidents pushed forward by their destiny. The entire book is based on this fateful one day they spend together while Natasha tries to stop the deportation and Daniel tries to make her fall in love with him over the span of the day. Does she get deported? Does she fall in love? " In love we find out who we want to be, in war we find out who we are. " ~ @kristinhannahauthor This is probably my most favorite war book that I've read till date. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters: Vianne and Isabelle who both suffer immensely throughout the war and have complete contrasting journeys. What I loved about this book was that while the atrocities carried out in the war are being told, the kindness showed by the common people and their resilience towards the occupation of their homes by the German army is also highlighted. Out of both the sisters, Vianne is my favorite because all throughout the book we get to see all the variant shades of a woman, starting from a loving housewife up to a fierce surviver. If you love war stories (as much as I do) you should definitely pick this one up, I know you wouldn't be dissapointed. P.S. "How do I get out of this labyrinth?" ~ @johngreenwritesbooks Anyone who knows me closely would know how much I had loved this book when I read it, and even years later I still find myself rereading sections from it. Although some would label this as a 'coming of age young adult' book (not that it's not) but this book for me was an introduction to how depression weaved into young lives. Alaska was an enigma to read, but she was also heavily depressed. I spent half of the book concerned for her, and the rest contemplating and deconstructing what happened 'after'. This book was the start to my very long journey in realizing that we don't always feel okay, and that's okay too, but what's important is to learn that it's necessary to help ourselves when we don't.
