Every inch of the house in Everkynd bore their touch in some way. They’d designed it together, picked stones and woods and paint colors together, laid the cornerstones together. Callum’s intricate moons and clouds painted on the doorways, ledges Rayla had attached to the walls for Stella to climb, tiles in the kitchen they’d spent all night placing. Built-in bookshelves for books and art supplies and travel mementos, a fireplace of stones she’d gathered herself, a skylight in their bedroom so they could sleep under the moonlight.

She felt the same way in this house as she did when Callum was holding her. No restlessness, no wariness, no feeling of “just passing through”. She could let her guard down like she never had before. 

This was a place she knew she could stay forever.

Callum's thoughts in 4x01 before Ezran joined him on the balcony.

Even if she caught Viren and finished the job, would she come back? He wanted to think so, but since that night she left, he wasn’t so sure about much anymore. She promised him that they would go together, but instead she left a letter talking about how white lies were used to protect the ones people love. A letter about how much she loved him.

A letter that he kept next to his bed and read every night before going to sleep.

Dating a prince had its ups and downs, with one of the downs being that his partner’s birthday was treated as a formal event with nobles all across the continent invited.

Unfortunately for Rayla, she was dating a prince—a cute, dumb, and dorky one, but still a prince.

So instead of kicking back and enjoying the day with the people she loved, she was dragged into a ball without her consent.

The noblewoman in front of her was still going on about all the things her husband had gifted her. Rayla tried her best to remain true to royal etiquette, but her patience was wearing thin. Her dress was uncomfortable—not because of the dress itself, but the lack of movement and freedom—and the atmosphere was too pompous for her liking.

WIP Wednesday Rayllum Mini-Month: History

“Well, it’s not me so much as Rayla,” Callum began, suddenly realising there was more to his request that he needed to sort out first. “But before that, em, do you remember the moon opal pendant you gave Rayla that first time we were in the Silvergrove?”

Ethatri’s smile faltered a little, before he nodded. “I do.”

“Well, something happened to it and she doesn’t have it any more-”

“I do not begrudge Rayla having to use the stone,” Ethari squeezed Callum’s shoulder reassuringly. “Or having to sell it-”

“She didn’t!” Callum insisted. “Lose it or sell it or, well, she didn’t do anything like that.”

Ethari blinked, clearly confused once again. “Oh… well, that’s good to know-”

“But it did get destroyed.”

Taking a breath, Ethari’s confusion seemed to only deepen. “I don’t understand-”

“It was me, I broke it.” Callum said in a rush, wincing.

“Oh,” Ethari paused.

“And not accidentally. On purpose.” Callum decided to just plow on. Everything would eventually make sense.

He hoped.

“She gave it to me to remember her by because she was planning to stay behind and try and defend Zubeia against a demon army-”

“That does sound like Rayla.” Ethari sighed, taking his arm back and crossing his arms over his broad chest.

“Right?!” Callum nodded, feeling a little more confident of his whole plan. “And I told her she was acting crazy-”

It was Ethari’s turn to wince-

“Which, yeah, I know… not the greatest choice of words.” Callum waved his hand dismissively. “So we got into an argument and she ran off-”

Furrowing his brow, Ethari took a breath, perhaps to interrupt.

“And I thought, well, maybe if we knew what had happened with her parents and stuff, maybe that would make everything make sense.”

Face softening, Ethari’s shoulders dropped. “Ah.”

The moon was almost full today. It shone over the entire courtyard, giving it an ethereal look. Callum stood alone on Ezran’s balcony, leaning on the railing and staring up into the sky as sounds of celebration were heard behind him. A celebration that he should take part in instead of moping out here alone. After all, it was his birthday.

Was it really though? The surprise had been nice and made it feel like any other birthday, but it didn’t stop him from thinking about her.

Where had she been all this time? Was she still on the road looking for Viren? Or did she give up and settle someplace else, leaving him here, forgotten? Or maybe she got… No. He refused to consider that notion, even though he knew it was a possibility. The thought made him shiver despite the warm night.

“What’d you find this time, Mr. Mage? Some sort of new spellbook?” She smiled at Callum’s excited expression, his eyes wide and a grin that stretched across his face.

“Actually, no, not this time.” He stopped in front of her and pulled from his bag a thick book that looked like it would crumble to dust at the slightest gust of wind. “It’s a book with the history of the whole continent!”

Welcome to Rayllum Mini-Month!

We are pleased to offer the fandom an alternative Rayllum Month event this July. Rayllum Mini-Month will feature 4 prompts—1 per week, with a suggested posting date of Wednesday each week. (Don’t worry—we’ll be reblogging all month, in case you fall behind 😉). Use #rayllum mini-month 2025 when you post your work…and check out the tag to see everyone’s fantastic fanworks!

Fanworks of any and all kinds are encouraged as a part of this event, including mature and explicit works. We anticipate fanfic, fanart, meta, edits, playlists...or anything else you can come up with! Please be sure—as always!—to appropriately tag your works with warnings for potentially triggering content so that everyone can choose what fanworks they want to engage with.

Sorry to repeat this poll but I forgot to make it one week. To add some info‚ it will most likely be only digital (could change in the future) with money being donated to a good cause (and not very expensive since it will be digital).

With a hiatus ahead of us, and a likely 7 year timeskip in canon time, an Interlude of sorts is happening with the Rayllum fandom — therefore, may I present Rayllum Month 2025: 'Idyllic' Interlude.

Like previous Rayllum months, it covers both our favourite lovebirds' birthdays, starting on July 1st and finishing on July 31st (Rayla's birthday). Prompts are suggestions and staggered every 2 days to provide for prep, catchup, and general sanity time. Works exploring mature (nsfw) or violent themes are welcome so long as they are properly tagged / put under read mores where applicable. And as much as it would be nice to cut these two a nice, fluffy break, the 'idyllic' part is definitely a suggestion: feel free to angst it up to your heart's content.
