☾ midnight comfort: Robin & gn!reader

a/n: a little something for the sweet angel @tardiiart ♡ idk why this week felt so harsh for so many people close to me, but i'm always happy to provide some comfort with words, shooing those nightmares away. also an opportunity to write Robin? -slams fist on the table- YES (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ

“Hey… hey. It’s okay, it was just a bad dream. I’m here.”

A warm hand touches your shoulder carefully, lingering there until your heart rate slows down again. Just a bad dream. It felt so very real though. You curl up into a ball, burying your face in your hands and sob quietly, unable to shake off those demons immediately; they always sat with you for a little longer, even with the lights on. Robin wraps her arms around you and pulls you close to her chest, rubbing small circles on your back, whispering your name over and over again to calm you down. The faint beat of her heart helps you find a steady breath again and you sink a bit deeper into her touch, your body and your mind heavy from those nightmares.

“It’s just… they felt so real. They always do. I’m so tired, Robin…”

You let her brush the hair out of your face, her fingertips so gentle on your skin. It wasn’t just the bad dreams. It was the terror that came with them, the unshakable fear that clenched around your heart for days and the fatigue that made your whole body so heavy, as if you tried breathing underwater.

Robin was no stranger to nightmares and it hurt her seeing you like that, your heart full of sorrow and big tears trickling away in the linen sheets. She knew better than anyone else how those demons could plague you and rob you of your sleep, making the days that followed as if you’re walking on shards. She kisses the top of your head and looks at you so full of love, your two silhouettes being dipped into the warm light of the nightstand lamp.

“Let’s grab some of that nighttime tea, shall we? Moving a bit always helps me get those bad dreams out of my system.” 

You rub your eyes and nod, letting her help you out of bed. She throws the blanket over you like a big cape, an armor against the outside world, and kisses your lips gently before she takes your hand into hers as you both make your way towards the kitchen. Robin helps you on the kitchen counter from where you watch her preparing two cups and boiling some water. Soon the faint smell of lavender and lemon balm fills the room and your heart already feels a little lighter with every kiss Robin places on the corner of your mouth, your cheeks and your temples with a softness that almost made you cry.

You make your way back to bed, sinking into the sheets after letting some fresh air in, the cold wind clearing your thoughts a bit more and making you crave the warmth of Robin’s arms even more. She chuckles softly as you both get comfortable, holding the big mugs of tea in your hands as you listen to her talking, something about the books she wants to buy once you’re back on an island and the things she was studying currently, knowing you’re always curious and eager to learn, too. Both her voice and the tea do their magic, warming you up from the inside and soon you snuggle closer to her, resting your head against her shoulder. 

“Can you read me a bedtime story, Robin? Please?”, you ask softly as you place your empty mug on the nightstand and lean in for another kiss. She takes your face into her hands, her thumbs brushing over your cheeks gently as you lose yourself in her eyes, a tiny little universe, galaxies colliding in between it. When she pats her lap you smile and kiss her one more time before you rest your head on her legs, curling up beside her. Her hand rests on top of your head, gently petting you while she reaches for the book on the bedside table. 

Soon her gentle and low voice fills the room as she starts reading out loud to you; it was like a tender little lullaby from heaven. You can feel your body relaxing under her touch, your heart sighing in relief as you finally allow yourself to rest your tired eyes again, knowing you are safe whenever she is around. These nightmares might be cruel, but they too would pass. What will stay is the sweet reality that you called your own, with Robin and you side by side, hand in hand, dancing on clouds into the faint night sky, a love written in the stars.
