I was wondering if when you asked for their discord or when you exchanged discords, they were also verified? Cherp rules are kinda confusing and contradictory in certain parts like when it says you can’t move off site unless all are verified, but then the next rule says no discord exchanges or any social media exchanges. So then how would we move off site? Is it even okay if all are verified, but then you can’t even drop your discord handle without being banned?

lmao thank you for reminding me abt all that shit with Cherp it's been so long since i checked up on it. For the record it's still the only place (online or irl) I've ever been permanently banned and I think it's a really funny example of how you can take an active IP with a built in user base and still manage to fuck it up by being so deeply unprofessional and toxic that you're not worth putting up with. Twitter wishes it could blow up like Cherp.

If you think the rules are confusing and contradictory now you should have seen them back in the day, Throughout Cherubplay's entire existence there was never a ban on off-site promotion or exchanges and Cherp's rules about when/how interaction are acceptable have been showing up piecemeal ever since. At the time i was permanently banned the website had recently updated their rules stating that exchanging information was liable for a week suspension. Another user and I (who told me they regularly requested discord usernames with no issues and was not suspended when I was) exchange discords, I log in the next morning, my account has been permanently removed.

I join their discord group and learn that in the discord they decided the rules are changing now and all information exchanges are a permaban, if you weren't in the offsite discord to know that then tough shit, you're still gone.

I went through most of the important people on the mod team trying to discuss this, most seemed pissed that I dare question their supreme judgement Reddit mod style. I'm not exactly surprised the types of personalities who ran and ruined old-school RP forums still exist in lots of nerd spaces. I remember specifically bringing up that at the time the rule I'd been perma'd for still showed up on the website as a max 1 week suspension, the response was "we can decide to ban you for any reason, go away."

Like yeah! You sure can do that! It also just makes you a raging asshole and the last person that should have a customer facing position in your team.

One day someone's gonna do a YouTube essay deep dive on all the random bullshit that happened with their donations/ID verification/etc. but my brief experience with the whole team made me feel like they were the last people you should trust your personal information with. Also I'm not saying I'm a cyber crimes expert but either the problems the site faced w the FBI were unique (in which case, what the fuck) or they were trumped up to cover their asses when they faced public pushback (in which case, what the fuck).

idk dude all i can say is that i hope one day the nerds get the roleplay site they deserve

Because people are asking I've decided this post is my "BEWARE YE WHO ENTER" sign before I close out this weird chapter of my internet life.

I wanna start by saying that I've been here a while, I spent years of my life on Cherubplay with zero issue and the site closing really felt like the end of an era. I made a Cherp account almost as soon as the original site went live but due to IRL reasons stopped using it. Close to a year later I was missing the good ol' days and thought I'd give Cherp 2 a shot.

I made prompts, responded to chats, and had no problems. Up until someone connected to a prompt of mine asking to use Discord instead. At the time I saw no issue, my memory was that recruiting for Discords in the directory was against the rules and that was it.

About a week later I log in and see that I've been permabanned. No message, no previous rule breaks, banned for life. I go into the Discord to ask about it and that's where I'm told that requesting OR giving out Discords is an immediate permaban, but the only way to know this was to be a regular user in their Discord because at the time staff still hadn't actually updated their site rules before they started enforcing the change.

A mod asks me to DM them, I explain the situation, that it was an honest mistake and that someone else had requested my Discord, my ban is repealed and I go on with my life.

A few days later my repealed ban is reinstated. I go to a different mod to ask about it and am informed that my repeal was a mistake. I'm confused because at the time of my ban, the rules still said that Discord requests were a MAX 7 day ban. According to the mod the only reason I know this is because I purposefully chose to break the rules intending to just eat a 7 day ban, which, news to me. Additionally, I'm told they can choose to make a ban more severe for any reason.

I wonder what could possibly be less of a reason than "I'd forgotten that was a rule and someone else asked for my Discord, glad I learned my lesson after my temp ban."

I'd also just like to throw in that all but one of the mods I talked to were openly rude from the get-go. You're wrong, they're right, shut up. So if you don't mind hearing that constantly my biggest piece of advice is to join the Discord, because if you don't they'll change the rules then ban you for not knowing it.

That's why when I brought this up to one of the mods I was unbanned for a few days, they went back and rebanned me later because they'd decided that someone else asking for your discord was an offense that deserved a permaban

Omegle is pretty shit but there might be an active HS community there, just set "homestuck rp" as an interest and see who you run into. roleplayfinder on tumblr has a really nice community and super sweet mod and you can post and browse requests sorta like cherp. Bonus that roleplayfinder at least doesn't allow pedos to send in requests for cp roleplay lmao. or honestly just search the "homestuck rp/roleplay" tags on tumblr and you can usually find partners that way

I was unbanned by a mod after I explained the situation then got rebanned today for a violation that happened when the site rules still had punishment as a week but yeah I’m the problem lol

And yeah its tough bc I’d hoped they’d ironed out the moderation problems by now and that’s why I got back on the site :/
