Hint Hunt
One weekend, a few friends and I wanted to do something, but we weren’t sure what exactly it was we wanted to do... Ideas such as; the beach, someones house and have a day filled with movies, rock climbing, bounce, the pool had all been thrown around but we still couldn’t collectively decide on something we were all 100% enthusiastic about.
Recently, I’d heard about an escape room my friends’ cousin, my brother and some other people had gone to and thoroughly enjoyed, so we decided to look into it. We found a few escape rooms in Dubai; Escape Quest, Challenge Chambers, Brainscape Games, but we decided on HintHunt. Hint Hunt is an escape game, designed for groups of 3-5. You have an hour to whirl through a mass of puzzles and riddles in a small room (or series of increasingly smaller rooms), with an aim of getting out before your time runs out. There are two room choices; James Murdock’s Office (of which there are 3 identical rooms so it’s great for larger groups of people and creates more of an intense and competitive feeling to the situation) There is also the option of the Zen Room, which as the name suggests, has a zen-like theme to it
The next day, my friends (Clodagh, Guy, JT, Keryn, Renee, Tayla, Timmy and Victor) and I met up and then split ourselves into the following teams; Team 1; Guy, Tayla, Victor and Clodagh Team 2; JT, Renee, Keryn, Timmy and Katja (me) As soon as the timer began, we all rushed about frantically, looking under, above, in and around everything in the rooms Whenever we were really stuck, a noise would be made through the speakers and a hint would be given to us. In the end, Team 1 won (ironically) getting out with 4 minutes remaining and Team 2, we just got out by the skin of our teeth with 32 seconds to spare! Overall, it was good fun, and I’m sure we would all recommend it to anyone interested. Prices
AED110 per person prices may vary depending on team sizes and peak times visit https://booking.hinthuntunlimited.com/?siteID=7 for more info regarding costs and booking regulations

Hi! I just wanted to thank you for posting about piercings in Dubai. I've been wanting a second ear lobe piercing for quite some time but had no idea where to go for one until I stumbled upon your blog. It was painless and completely safe. I'm already planning my third. Thank you :)
Glad my blog and experiences were able to help you! Thanks so much for your feedback

Piercings
I, like a lot of people around my age like to, as my grandparents would call it “disfigure my body with holes and jewels”. Dubai, due to some new stricter laws, isn't a place where it’s too easy to get anything pierced anymore. For a few years now, i’ve been “going through this phase” and finally managed to sway my dad to let me get another piercing, so i thought it’d be straight forward and I’d just go to the same clinic I’d always been to, The Rosary Clinic, which is just in The Springs.... Apparently that was demolished a few years ago, who would’ve known? So, I looked online for other places and got a few results... (Although I ended up getting these particular piercings done on a whim in market in Turkey this summer at a dodgy stall by an old man using a prehistoric looking gun, so I didn't need any of my research)
My research came in handy though after my dad caved and agreed to me being able to get my nose pierced. So, during the winter holidays, I went to Kyra Clinic in the Gold and Diamond Park to get it done. The minute I was told I could get it done, I went and booked the first 20 minute appointment I could get, it was at 10:00am the next day. Two of my friends came along with me and we probably searched for the clinic for a good 45 minutes before finally being told we were in the wrong building. We were in Building 1, the workshop building, whereas the actual clinic was in Building 2. Once we figured this out, it was smooth sailing, we walked in, I told the receptionist I had had an appointment for 10 but had gotten a little lost, she said this “happened all the time” and took me through to the room. I had the area where and around the piercing would be sterilised, picked out which jewellery i wanted (all the jewellery is medical grade titanium or steel, so 100% hypoallergenic and nickel free and prices range from AED250 to AED450, inclusive of the actual procedure itself). The piercing was not performed with a needle, which was what I had mentally prepared myself for, and not with a gun but a sort of hybrid between the two. It didn't really hurt, though it definitely hurt more than a lobe piercing and it made my right eye water.
My main worry all throughout the process were my mum and my two friends trying to make me giggle, and me wobbling and making the piercers’ job difficult. As of yet, it’s healing nicely and I’ve experienced no issues, so I would definitely recommend Kyra clinic for anyone thinking of getting anything done. (They even provide you with the novelty ‘Certificate of Bravery’ after it’s over to make you feel extra macho)
Location: Gold & Diamond Park, Building No.2, Unit 2024, Ground Floor
Getting There: Take the metro to First Gulf Bank

Baking & Cooking
Do it Yourself!
This wouldn’t be my first choice of activity because I personally don’t like either baking or cooking all that much… however when you’re with friends it doesn’t really matter what you’re doing, it’s the company that counts am I right..? and hey, even if you don’t love the cooking part so much, the eating part’s always good (so long as everything turns out alright..)
Like I mentioned above, I don’t enjoy cooking that much, that’s when I’m alone and doing things for myself, but when I’m with friends it’s a different story. A couple of weeks ago, two friends and I decided we were going to make a proper 3-course meal, a starter, main course and then dessert. So we looked out come recipe books, checked what was in the fridge and set to work. First we made the main course, small Chicken Mushroom and Bacon Pies
I’ll copy out the recipe here: Ingredients 3 rashers streaky bacon (cut into 2.5cm / 1 inch strips) 1 teaspoon garlic infused olive oil 125 grams chestnut mushrooms (sliced into 5mm/eighth inch pieces) 250 grams chicken thigh fillets (cut into 2.5cm/1 inch pieces) 25 grams plain flour ½ teaspoon dried thyme 1 tablespoon butter 300 ml hot chicken stock 1 tablespoon marsala 375 grams all-butter ready-rolled puff pastry sheet (23 x 40cm / 9 1/2 x 9½ inch)
Method 1. Preheat the oven to 220°C/gas mark 7/425ºF. In a heavy-based frying pan, fry the streaky bacon strips in the oil until beginning to crisp, then add the sliced mushrooms and soften them in the pan with the streaky bacon. 2. Turn the chicken strips in the flour and thyme (you could toss them about in a freezer bag), and then melt the butter in the streaky bacon-and-mushroom pan before adding the floury chicken and all the flour left in the bag. Stir around with the streaky bacon and mushrooms until the chicken begins to colour. 3. Pour in the hot stock and Marsala, stirring to form a sauce, and let this bubble away for about 5 minutes. 4. Take two 300ml / 1¼ cup pie-pots (if yours are deeper, don't worry, there will simply be more space between contents and puff pastry top) and make a pastry rim for each one - by this I mean an approx. 1cm / ½ inch strip curled around the top of each pot. Dampen the edges with a little water to make the pastry stick. 5. Cut a circle bigger than the top of each pie-pot for the lid, and then divide the chicken filling between the two pots. 6. Dampen the rim of the pastry again and then pop on the lid of each pie, sealing the edges with your fingers or the underneath of the prongs of a fork. 7. Cook the pies for about 20 minutes turning them around halfway through cooking. Once cooked, they should have puffed up magnificently. Click here for recipe and further info on this particular dish
This turned out to be a very simple and straightforward recipe with very very little room for mistakes and tasted amazing.
For a starter we made a salad; Red Leaf Lettuce, Rocket, chopped up tomatoes, bell pepper and cucumber with some balsamic vinegar mixed through it
And finally for Dessert we made a fruit salad: Peaches, plums, mango, pear, strawberries, raspberries, kiwi, loquat, grapes, fig and grapefruit.

Arts
If you like arts and crafts, are feeling creative, or are just wanting to try something new there are various places in Dubai which cater for the more creative audience. Some of which are; Café Céramique and the JamJar.
Café Céramique
Café Céramique is a great place to go out for a meal, or drink with some friends and do something other than just eat or drink. At Café Céramique you can paint your own designs onto a multitude or ceramic sculptures. Some of the ceramics include mugs, Piggy Banks, bowls and plates. After painting, the ceramic sculptures are put into a furnace to give them a shine and make the paint stick.
Contact Details 04 3447 331
Getting There Buses 8, 88, X28 and C10 all head towards Town Centre Mall and then it’s only a short walk (5-10 minutes maximum) to the mall itself.
Tumblr media
The JamJar
Unlike Café Céramique, the JamJar isn’t a café, it’s solely a creative place. The sizes of canvases and the walls filled with buckets of paint alike are endless. Obviously the price will vary depending on what scale you decide to paint. It’s a lovely place, dedicated to creativity, bring along some music and earphones if you feel like music helps you become more creative.
Opening Hours Monday-Thursday 10:00 – 20:00 Friday                     14:00 – 20:00 Closed on Sundays
Contact Details 04 3417 303 04 3417 304 [email protected]
Address RKM Properties, St. 17a Comm 368, Al Quoz 3 PO Box 27554, Dubai, UAE
Getting There Get the metro to FGB Metro Station and then either walk the rest of the way to the JamJar or take either bus 12 or the F25 and then walk a little.
Do it Yourself!
An alternative to higher costing activities is heading to a supermarket such as Carrefour, Géant or Spinneys and buying some canvases and paints and setting yourself a little art area up in your house.

Fitness Day
Do it Yourself!
If you’re running low on cash, an fun and healthy activity would be holding a fitness day. Living in Dubai, I’m sure at least one of your friends lives within a compound with pools, parks and other facilities. Dubai is a place with so much to do, and lots costs money, so people sometimes forget to just use what’s readily around them and better yet, free!
Round up a few friends and head over to one of their houses, bring your trainers, swimming things, and some clothes you don’t mind getting sweaty. Then plan a bunch of physical activities you could do around the compound. An idea would be: Since compounds tend to have multiple swimming pools (I know in The Lakes, there are over 10), set off running or jogging to the first pool, once there hop into the pool, swim some lengths (or just mess about), then put your clothes back on and head off to the next pool. Make use of the things around you, use benches for step-ups, tricep dips, modified pushups, squat thrusts, lunges, v-sit and anything else you can think of.

This is a great way of keeping fit and having fun ☺

Paintball
PAINTBALL Dubai – PURSUIT GAMES
Pursuit Games Paintball is an outdoors paintball arena. When it originally opened in 1996, it was situated indoors, however soon after opening it was realised that in order to create the best and most adrenaline pumping experience for the public, an outdoor arena would be better.
This paintball arena is probably the most well known in Dubai and is a great day out and change from the mall-run Dubai.

Camping
Something different from doing costly and organised activities would be to go camping. I’d recommend going with friends because well, camping isn’t as much fun if it’s just you, alone, in the middle of nowhere… I love being outdoors and have been going camping for as long as I can remember. I think it’s something that we, as people living in Dubai, don’t do enough of and there’s plenty desert to offer right on our doorstep for a last minute, low cost, fun, back to nature getaway. All you’ll need is; - Some way of getting to where you want to camp - People to camp with - A tent - Roll mats or carpets - Some light source is always good - Some food and drinks - Matches or a lighter are usually useful
If you don’t fancy sleeping in a tent and would rather just sleep out in the open under the stars, something like a big carpet is good enough just to avoid lying on the sand because at night it can get pretty cold, also it helps avoid getting sand absolutely everywhere. I think it’s necessary and good to get away from the extremely modernised place we live in sometimes, so this is why camping is such a good activity.
Where: Just past the Al Quadra end of the cycle track It’s only about 10 minutes from Arabian Ranches so for all it will feel like you’re in the middle of no where it’s actually quite close and well within mobile range should you need to call help. Getting There: Unfortunately, one of the best and closest camping locations is not accessible by public transport other than taxi; so my best suggestion for getting there is to rope in a parent to drop you and your camping kit off or jump in a taxi and split the fare with your friends.
Tumblr media
(looking at this map, drive till the second roundabout along Al Qudra Rd and go to the right)
There’s as many places to camp as you’d like to find, all the way along the cycle path, up towards some lakes, all the way to Bab Al Shams and if you want to go even further afield and swap the sand dunes for mountains, Hatta is only an hour and a half away, yes a bus does go there but of course, with all camping trips, its best to be able to go with your own transport. The E16 bus from Dubai Intercontinental Hotel (Festival City) takes approximately 2 hours costing anywhere from AED5 to AED7.50 and will take you all the way to Hatta. However, from there you’ll either need to hike to your chosen camping destination or flag a taxi to take you.

Set Goals
Do it Yourself!
Something I like to do during summers, especially if I haven’t got any set plans about where I’ll be, is setting myself goals I’d like to achieve by the end of this summer (and hopefully be able to maintain afterwards). I think doing this just sort of gives you a purpose over the summer months.
These goals could be anything, this summer I set myself a few, though I’ve still got to follow up on some of them… here are some of the goals I set and have completed as of now; 1) Be able to tie a cherry stem in a knot with my tongue 2) Be able to do box splits fully again 3) Get some of my schoolwork done  4) Finish at least one book
If you can't think of any goals to set for yourself or have managed to already achieve all these goals, here are some ideas of what you could possibly do; - Go running every day - Swim 50 lengths a day - Teach yourself an instrument (maybe just a couple of songs) - Learn how to cook or make something new

Scavenger Hunt
Do it Yourself!
This section is called; “Do It Yourself”, it’s more or less things that cost very little to no money, just sort of creative things rather than going to a specific place to do a specific thing.
A couple of days ago some friends came over and we decided we wanted to do something different, so we put together a list of 43 items/events/things to find on our scavenger hunt. We made sure the items weren’t things too unrealistic or difficult to find within residential areas and between the perimeters of The Lakes and The Meadows. So we filled 3 bottles of water, pumped up our bike tyres, hosed down our bikes and brought a camera along to take pictures of the things we found.
Out of the 43 items, we managed to find all of them except; someone drinking, writing on a wall, broken glass and someone wearing sunglasses… so we found 39 out of 43 items ☺
I feel this is a good activity, and you can make it take as long, or as short a period of time as you want. To add a different spin on this,  especially if you have more friends to do this with, you could split up into teams and all agree on a certain time for the hunt to be over, then by the end of the scavenger hunt, all meet back at the chosen spot at the set time and see which team managed to find the most items.

Go Karting
Go-karting is something that people of all ages can enjoy. I’ve been going go-karting in Dubai since I moved here when I was 7, I’ve always been someone who enjoyed things with a sort of “thrill-factor”, so go-karting certainly fits that description. I would say it’s a lot more fun if you’re with friends or people you know because even if you aren’t the type who’s really into this sort of thing you can just goof around. There are plenty of places to Go-Kart here, some more well known than others, they are…

Horse Riding
How many people think of Dubai and horse riding or pony trekking? Yes, we know that Dubai has a love affair with horses so we’ve got amazing facilities such as Meydan Racecourse, where the spectacular, colourful and money-magnetising racing world cup is held.. but that’s not catering for me, just fancying going for a plod around on a horse. For all I’m small, I’m probably already too heavy to be a jockey, I certainly don’t have the dedication, the drive or the absolute passion for horses to become a jockey either! However, unless you’re a “horseaphobic”… who doesn’t enjoy wandering around on a horse? Enjoying the sunrise, the full moon, the desert breeze, the warm scent of horses, being out in nature are some of the things that attracted me to trying out a trek at Mushrif Park. Added to that, because it was the summer, there were deals that I couldn’t help but take advantage of. I’ll attach a price list later on.
Focusing on something other than the international arenas of equine sport, Mushrif Park has an equestrian activities for everybody (okay, so it has got a polo club as well) The rides during summer are either early in the morning or in the evenings into the nights once the sun has set and the atmosphere has cooled a little, making it a more comfortable and nice environment for the horses. You had better make sure you’re there on time, and on time means early (at least 15 minutes before your ride is due to leave) as there are the obligatory safety briefings, horse allocation, getting kitted up etc to be taken care of. If you’re late, they will leave without you. Anyway, I had a ball and would highly recommend it and what’s more, the earlier you get there, the longer you have to chat to the horses. BONUS!
Prices (including summer prices up to 30/09/15)
Tumblr media
for any information you can’t see on the price list, I highly recommend you call because I found them incredibly helpful and happy to answer questions.
Opening Hours Open 7 days a week Lessons (everyday except Mondays)                06:00-10:00  or  16:00-22:00 Desert Rides                06:00 and 08:00  or  16:00 and 17:30
Contact Details 04 257 12 56 or 050 103 0243 [email protected] https://www.facebook.com/MushrifEC?fref=ts www.mushrifec.com
Getting There Take the 11A bus in the direction going to Awir However, I’d say that the easiest way to get there is by car or taxi especially as the riding hours are early in the morning or late at night.
While you’re at Mushrif Park, if you’ve had an early start on the horses, you could plan to spend the rest of the day enjoying the 124hectares of parkland, stocking up on some food at one of the restaurants, swimming, cycling, even sneaking a peak at one of the more surprising exhibits which is the international village with its scaled down models of houses from different parts of the world, which is very nice but a bit whacky…

It’s a good place to go all year round to have fun with your friends, racing down the slopes and spraying each other with snow, it’s also a good place to go by yourself if you want to maybe perfect any tricks or jumps. All gear; Ski jacket and trousers, ski boots, snowboarding boots, skis, snowboard, ski poles, helmets, and a pair of socks (although I would recommend you bring and wear a few pairs), are provided.
