Happy Friday! This day of the week is most often paired with the goddess Freyja, whose associations include magic, war, love, gold, and cats! Meet one of our Temperance cats, Oktober— the very cat who inspired our logo! She is a 2 year old tuxedo-wearing momma with the spirit of the Lady in her heart. Quick reminder: Our shop carries nail trimmings and loose fur collected from our cats for use in all sorts of spellcraft! DM Temperance for more info.

Ouija boards, spirit boards, communication boards, or what you may call them, are boards with the alphabet, numbers 0-9, and typically the words “yes”, “no”, and “goodbye”. They are used to talk to spirits.
Most people know these boards from horror movies in which communication are made with demons, the devil, or dark spirits. This has given ouija boards a bad reputation, and has made most people afraid to even be in the same house as them.
But it’s important to know, that once again, the media has lied to you.
Spirit/Ouija Boards are simply devices that are used to talk to spirits that are close by. The Ouija board that we know and recognize today was released in 1890, but the technology has been around since 1100 AD.
It is important to note that if you do not know what you’re doing, the use of a Ouija or Spirit Board can be dangerous, but the use of one of these boards is not inherently dangerous. It is important to know the basic rules (Say goodbye, be polite, don’t ask to speak to a dead loved one), and to only use a ouija board with people you trust.

Many believe that black animals, especially cats, are bad luck or bad omens. This couldn’t be further from the truth, and this belief harms innocent animals. This old misconception comes from old witch hunts, in which witches were found to own black animals; people believed this was one of their connections to the devil, and that this animal fed off of them. In reality, the color black is the color of protection and warding. And animals can help guide in different practices. Black animals are a sign of good luck and of protection, when you see one crossing your path, don’t brace yourself for a bad day, instead watch for small blessings or better luck.
