MVRCK Ep 13 | Don't Let Urban Be Cancelled Recently the Urban Dance Community following the lead of Keone Madrid put out statements that they'll stop putting urban in any of their future branding. Now this is in light of the comments Tyler, The Creator said at the Grammy's earlier this year. Everyone just CHILL. While Urban may have perceived negative connotations in the music industry, the way we use urban in the dance community DOES NOT equate. For generations, many cultures have told their stories and expressed their lived experience through dance and music. This is our modern day version. Urban, while not picked from some arbiter or tribal council, just stuck and we need to welcome and cultivate it. In doing so, also recognizing its history and connection with Hip Hop, but not mistaking that Urban dance is its own thing. This is my open letter to the Urban Dance Community that in good intentions we're trying to do what it right and noble but not pausing and not being critical in thought as to what all of this actual means in context. All of this is indicative of cancel culture and just reacting without thinking. I, for one, am going to be the conservative voice because I want to keep the traditions, the stories, and shared experience we ALL together have built over three decades of Urban Dance. Bless up. Quick Movie Review: I Still Believe -- If you want a good cry like cliche crying in the rain type movie check this film out. C'mon it has KJ Apa from Riverdale. Also Shania Twain and Lt Dan lol. But as far as Christian movies go this was good. It a solid drama and not preachy. Just a dude writing about his journey. A powerful movie to celebrate Easter. TV REVIEW | Star Trek Picard Season 1 (Spoilers) I'm in an odd position. I like but I don't like this series. I appreciate the entertainment value and production. It's fun and I like the progression of the story BUT this is not STAR TREK. There's just a lot of mischaracterizations or at least a lot of leaps in reasoning just to move the story along. Again I had a fun time because I think I've seen a lot of elements of this series reminiscent of other mediums (Avengers, Star Wars, Alter Carbon, etc.). If you can look pass all of that you can enjoy it. It's not horrible but it's not Star Trek. Storytime: There was no mass on base so my Catholic Crew needed to go on mission to be with God. In Te Confido Iesus. (Jesus, I trust in you). And on the third try we found a church with the last service of the night. Thank you Holy Spirit for guiding us. This was such a blessing to have an adventure and to have made it back safely. To share in a liturgy in another country and in another language but still be in the Lord's presence is truly amazing. One Holy Catholic Apostolic Church. TV REVIEW | Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 3 What is this Marvel? Okay, up until now I have totally enjoyed this series for its entertainment value. Season 1 & 2 was engaging, nice character arcs, world building, and just a HELL of a ride. This season is so convoluted. I get this is a comic book but I feel like they are drawing too much from Marvel and other stories that recently come out. It's a lack of imagination and bad story writing, really. With the final episode using endgame time travel to solve an end of days scenario, good grief. The only saving grace were all the Riverdale easter eggs. That was awesome. Overall, a very disappointing season. They need to trim a lot out next season. Hopefully, they do. If not go woke go broke. For those you know me should know I'm a fan of the Hunger Games series... hence the brand name Haymitchmitch. Well, a new book is coming out in May 2020 and its title has been dropped by Entertainment Weekly. Early speculations was predicting this prequel was going to be about District 4's victor Mags but apparently the book follows the young President Snow which has some folks up in arms. I'm optimistic and excited. More so because I have content to talk about. But who's down to explore more of Panem? TV REVIEW | The Man In The High Castle Season 4 (Final Season) I love alternate history science fiction. And this show did a great job building a world where the Nazi won victory in WWII. Great character arcs. Great visuals. Great opening credits. And a great way to hook you in with mystery and espionage especially in the first season. Totally a fun ride start to finish. Although the ending scene is a little perplexing, I think overall the show did a nice job wrapping everything up. Well for those who saw my facebook or instagram post, yep this movie is trash. Is it absolutely horrible? No, only a Sith deals in absolutes. Yes, there's plenty of entertainment and good fun to be had. But as someone who stays up to date on lore and has been tracking the leaks on this movie, it was rather disappointing. Sure, Abrams had a tough time to make up for the previous film but that's no excuse to throw in Beskar grade plot armor, throw out more of canon, and really just being lazy with fast pace action hoping the audience isn't going to catch on to the bad story telling. The Mandalorian Ep 1-3 (TOP 3 Things You Should Know About Mandalorians) Three episodes in and The Mandalorian is still holding up. Like I said before, it's solid like Carbonite and precious like Beskar. Great story telling, nice progression in the plot, awesome performance by Pedro Pascal (through body language and voice acting essentially), and extremely meme-able with all quotes and gifs. Negative side, 30 minute run time on these episodes. But hey, we'll take quality of quantity. Lastly, of course, the best part for me is that this show is going heavy in the Star Wars lore.
