Signal Box “On the Inside” Two-track Single Release Date - September 14, 2024 Cover Art - Karen Versoza Guitar - Signal Box (aka Robin Anthony Coe) Voice - Karen Versoza Remix additional instruments and mixing - Songs of the Sea (aka Blair Dean) Remix Mastering - Martin Cantwell “On the Inside” was originally used by a butoh dancer to close out a mixed-media show in Tokyo in April, 2024. Signal Box then shared the track with Songs of the Sea, who reimagined it, adding beats, instruments, and sound design. Have fun listening to the simplicity of the guitar/voice original, followed by the experimental and musically adventurous remix. That is Low-Velocity Society’s modus operandi, and with the spoken song “Night”, we have the crystal-clear chaos of Dean’s lap steel combining beautifully with a Japanese poem by artist Mayumi Ishida. He was moved by her series of paintings entitled “Kopf in den Händen” (“Head in Hands”). Using just a baritone guitar, Signal box created a track both forbidding and hopeful. The poems were originally part of the art show Ablutions, held in Tokyo in August, 2023. Now, Versoza and tokiochouetsu team up to bring the words to life musically.
