It's interesting to stop from time to time and realise how much of the discourse (or debate points) on this webbed site are US-centric

Like:

No one can take your organs even if you're dead and don't need them anymore - my country is an organ transplant opt-out, so unless you write a formal letter to the government (or your relatives strongly protest), any of your organs can be automatically passed on to someone else after you die

Criminals should be able to vote - in my country voting is considered a democratic right of every citizen, and there are committees that go to places with people with difficulty reaching the voting room (such as hospitals, prisons or nursing homes)

People under 18 are (not) basically children - we split the upper teen milestones to sexual consent (15yo), driving car with a certified chaperone (17yo) and voting/driving/drinking (18yo), which makes the 18th birthday less of a clear-cut line.

It's always morally correct to ... - until coming to tumblr, I had never been led to consider the morality of anything apart from thought experiments, I'm still baffled at what made you be aware of this at all times

I spent my birthday at the hospital. Some of the darkest days of my life. Ti-rads 4 giant goiter that needed to be removed, awake intubation. Blessedly, my biopsy was benign, and I don't remember anything from the surgery. anesthesiologists said my airways almost collapsed. In some medical debt. But I am so happy I am alive. On a battalion of meds. I only just now started being able to move around as normal. I need all the help I can get from community. I had no income the two months I was sick. My mother is unable to move independently. My father has kidney failure, and my sister is pretty much my kid. She is autistic with a very low frustration threshold. I am the only person in my family who works, and I have three jobs, but all of which are unstable. I need to take thyroid h*rm*ne replacement for the rest of my life as maintenance medicine; as all of the funds I received from my gofundme was poured into surgeon fees. I'm penniless with a calcium deficiency, legit nothing to eat with a family of four to take care of ): please help me recover, help me buy calcium supplements and my thyroid maintenance medicine as I am essentially someone with hypothyroidism, and meds to treat my diabetes (sitaglipin and metformin). I only have around 6 days left of medicine before I run out. I am so grateful to still be alive, and I owe it all to you guys, and I am hoping everyone can still be generous to help me rebuild what is my new life as someone disabled with no support system irl. great question. while a lot of these gofundmes started to fund evacuations, since the border will not open they have shifted to covering the costs of daily survival in gaza

the cost of food alone in gaza right now has been reported by journalists on the ground (including @siraj2024) to be 20 times the normal price.

and it varies based on location. the north is currently being starved by the IOF so food prices are higher

and there is a lot of evidence on tumblr that proves that these fundraisers do help

@ma7moudgaza2 was able to buy a tent for his family and is currently trying to pay for a solar panel

@siraj2024 was able to secure rent for a (bombed out, but still) apartment for his family over the winter

@mohdiwais was able to fund medical care for his sister after she was shot by the IOF using funds he raised on tumblr

a gaza-based charity called care for gaza has also been directly assisting families with funds used from their gofundme. they even post videos of themselves giving out food

and those are just a few examples. hope this helped!

I am Amal from Gaza. A mother of 4 girls ( Judy 8y in 2nd grade at school, Mariam 7y grade 1 in school, Rasha 5y in KG1 And Misk 3y).

I have been displaced from our home with my daughters without my husband. It's now more than 11 months since my daughters and I didn't see him. Every day my daughters ask me about their father with tears, they miss him so much.

We are now live in a tent. We lost our home which we had recently rebuilt before the war, it cost us more than 20k$ to rebuild. It has been completely destroyed. We are now homeless and my husband also lost his job due to the war. With this bad situation, not enough food, and no clean water my daughters got sick every single week. Also, my eldest daughter suffers from permanent amoebiasis in the intestines, there is no treatment available.

I am asking you , my friends , to keep supporting my family who is full of hope and wishes that things could be better with you.

Hello I am Mohammad Tayseer, 34 years old, Palestinian living in Gaza. I am married to Basma Ramez, and we have two children: Jude, who is 4 years old, and yazan, who is 2 and a half years old.

Our life was normal and full of optimism, and we had big ambitions.I worked in smartphone programming at City Phone. I was happy with my job, and our dreams were focused on building a bright and beautiful future for our children. We had a large, beautiful home that sheltered us, full of many wonderful memories.

But suddenly, without any warning, war destroyed everything beautiful in our lives. Our home was demolished by a missile, leaving nothing behind, and my company was also damaged. I lost my job, and we became homeless and without income.

We tried to flee more than five times to safer areas in search of security, but safety in Gaza has become nearly impossible. Death and destruction are everywhere, and our children live in a constant nightmare. Opportunities for education and entertainment have vanished, and basic necessities are scarce. We are now seeking a chance to live in a safe place outside of Gaza. However, our only hope now is to escape this ongoing hell and find a safe haven for our family. This requires significant financial costs, as border crossing fees amount to $5,000 per adult and $2,500 per child, a sum I cannot afford on my own.

Every donation, no matter the amount, whether $10 or $20, will have a significant impact on our lives. Your contributions will help cover the costs of travel and living in a safe country.
