btw india is by my count the only country in the world to outright abolish preexisting birthright citizenship which existed till 1986, to now requiring both parents to be indian citizens or one citizen with a legal migrant. india also did so almost directly in response to the influx of refugees who were mostly bangladeshis fleeing from genocidal pakistani razakars in 1971 and sri lankan tamils fleeing from genocidal sinhalese buddhists in 1983.

the actual attempt to enforce jus sanguinis in just one state? 1.9 million people lacked proof of parental citizenship / settlement pre 1971 in assam.
