I'm very attached to the idea of percy being like, Part Of The Sea as well as a demigod. like yes it's a godly domain that he has powers from but the sea as like, it's own separate primordial Thing that he's also connected to. his powers are so different from other demigod powers, even the other big 3 kids- like, hazel doesn't heal faster if she shovels dirt on an open wound. lightning and shadows can actively kill jason and nico if they aren't careful. none of the other kids can both telepathically AND verbally speak to animals (frank can't speak to animals even when he Is an animal, but he still gets the under water telepathy!). all the sea nymphs he comes across act like he's their baby just as much as he is poseidon's. he gets sick and irritable if he's too far away from the water for too long, and even when he's inland if poseidon is in a mood and causing storms because of it, percy's mood is also affected? whenever he's in the water, it seems like everyone in the ecosystem immediately knows it. sea creatures literally cry out to him for help and he'll sneak out in the middle of the night to go free them 🥺 like sorry I will never get over that it's so sweet 😭. I'm too tired to really articulate this right but I just love the idea that he's not so much tied to the water as he is part of it, like there's just this sort of otherness to the ocean and it's various deities and creatures that is different than all the other demigods and their parent's domains. he IS a demigod but he's also literally a sea creature in his own right and there's a whole community to it. like there's different life forms in the ocean but at the same time everything in it is One in a way. the way he's instantly soothed and calmed by the water, the way the sea always greets him with love, like whenever he's not in the water everyone feels the hole where he should be. like it's more than just being the sea god's kid- he's part of the ocean and an extension of the ocean and Is the ocean all at once. there's like a spiritual hivemind going on there. he feels who goes in and out and they weep whenever he goes out. what belongs to the sea will always return to the sea. am I making any sense here.

we need to bring back stapler x jason or something cause pjo fandom doesnt know what real crackships are anymore. i've seen people calling two characters who have met in canon a crackship. some of the things i've seen people call crackships aren't even rarepairs, they're just a totally normal ship. how quickly we forget.

the difference between the pjo show and movies is that the movies are abominable adaptations of the books that are also cunty while the show is a slightly more faithful adaptation that is allergic to serving even once

I think the thing that consistently bugs me about Heroes of Olympus is how it ended up sort of..gently demonising Percy?
Like, Percy has already learnt that he can’t always be the hero. That is the whole point of The Last Olympian. Annabeth does her badass thing fighting Kronos, and Luke kills him. Team effort a+ good job everyone. Percy plays his part, but he doesn’t dominate.
Re-hashing this in Heroes of Olympus as though Percy has been strutting around stealing everyone’s moments is disingenuous, and unfair to the character. Like, maybe you could swing him being too protective of his friends or something, but even then I believe @greenconverses pointed out that. That’s what Mark of Athena is there for. Percy puts aside his protective instincts so Annabeth can do her hero shit alone. It’s been addressed. It’s not even a glimmer of a problem anymore, but we’re still supposed to believe that Percy is some glory seeker whose big sacrifice is stepping aside for the others to kill Gaia?
It’s also…not his fault that Calypso remains on the island. He asked the gods to let her go, and there’s no real reason he should think they wouldn’t do that? More than that, it’s not some gross error on his part that he hadn’t thought about her much in the time between getting off the island, and Annabeth getting cursed (and don’t even get me started on the bullshit that is cursing ANNABETH for something that Percy supposedly did).
Percy gets taken by Hera only a few months after TLO. That’s barely enough time to breathe, let alone start to wonder if the gods whose butts they just saved were really serious about keeping their promises. Then his memory is wiped, and then he’s thrown into the middle of saving the world all over again. It might feel like a long time because it took five years for the books to come out, but the actual timeline between the end of PJO and the point where we’re told Percy is some huge asshole for not thinking about Calypso is actually pretty short, and he doesn’t have his memory for. Most of that time.
There’s also this judgment in the narration of Percy not giving a fuck about Bob before they run into him again, which…why would he? Literally I’m so confused, just because Bob is nice now doesn’t mean he wasn’t a Titan who was trying to take over the world. Bob might be nicer than the other Titans even as Iapetus, but he and Percy were still enemies. There is zero in-universe reason why Percy should have somehow tried to be friends with him after his memory was wiped. The fact that Hades and Persephone treated him as a janitor is not Percy’s fault at all, and is tbh probably kinder than what Iapetus would have done to Percy if he hadn’t become Bob.
Also with the whole Bob situation, that happened in a short story that a lot of readers probably wouldn’t have read, so there is an additional reason why it never came up in the main series until Riordan decided he wanted to use it. Like it’s technically canon, but it’s not a canon that a lot of people have read, so having Percy muse on the fate of a memory-wiped Titan would have been super jarring for a large chunk of readers. Which is probably, out-of-universe, why that didn’t occur.
Basically I’m super pressed about Percy being treated like an asshole by his own author, when his author couldn’t even go to the effort to make him act like one.

I can think of so many reasons why son of neptune is a top 5 pjo book but a big one is just that the stakes are so fucking high for the entire trio. ALL of them have good reason to believe they won't survive the quest. percy just lost his achilles curse and ella's prophecy foretells that a son of neptune will drown. iris personally told frank that he'll die holding his firewood and then the quest demands that he burns it in order to melt thanatos' ice chains (+he's worried that thanatos will take his life regardless because of his firewood). hazel isn't even supposed to be alive in the first place and the main conceit of the quest asks her to fight to free the god whose very purpose is to kill her. son of neptune is a story about death and the terror of its inevitability. the gang was in a state of highly personalized abject mortal peril for most of that book and there is a very feasible alternate universe in which the quest to alaska "succeeds" and not a single one of them makes it back alive

Everyone talking about how they are the most excited to see Grover in a wedding dress (if/when) we get a second season of the Percy Jackson series. And I understand the excitement for all the giddy moments that are to come from that, as the book is adapted episode per episode :,D. BUT BUT !! I myself am actually more excited to see that one emotional conversation that Percy has with Tyson at the very end of The Sea of Monsters :,). That conversation is so precious to me, and I hope it makes it Final Cut of the series. I want the scene to be brought to life beautifully and accurately.
I want to see Percy go and apologize to Tyson for feeling ashamed and annoyed of having him as a half cyclops brother at the beginning of the book; only for Tyson to tell him that he had asked Poseidon for him.
“You asked Poseidon for… me?”
"For a friend, young cyclopes grow up alone on the streets, learns to make things out of scraps. Learn to survive … Makes us appreciate blessings, not be greedy and mean and fat like Polyphemus …. I prayed to Daddy for help. Soon the people at Meriwether found me. Mey you. Biggest blessing ever. Sorry I said Poseidon was mean. He sent me a brother. ”

no cus i truly believe that if ethan had lived he and percy would become really good friends after the events of the giant war. he notices percy is no longer spewing "but the gods are the good guys!!" rhetoric bs, which makes him much more pleasant to be around to ethan

i was just thinking about how much i LOVE the journey that percy had to go through when tyson went from being his kinda "weird" friend at school that he was completely down for protecting because that was The Right Thing To Do but it became a whole different ball game temporarily at camp
because like. he was then dealing with the opinions of people whose opinions he CARED ABOUT! because it's one thing to say fuck the haters when they're people you don't like, but it's another thing to figure out how to say fuck the haters when the haters are your best friends who you want to fit in with. and then of course there was the additional layer of It's One Thing When It's Your Friend Who's Like Partially A Charity Case That You Know Is Less Cool Than You And You Being Nice Makes You Feel Like A Good Person and a whole different thing once that person becomes your brother. because suddenly it's not a You Being Nice Makes You A Good Person thing, it becomes an obligation. and obligations paired with the relationship difficulties this is causing with your friends that you want to like you and think you are cool are now not even seeing you as Nice Person Helping Charity Case but GUY WITH CHARITY CASE FOR A BROTHER!
and i dunno. i still think that this is one of the most effective relationships that rr has ever written. because it is SO accurate to kids whose only disability is something like ADHD or dyslexia. because yeah, sure, it's still disabling. it makes you Different from your neurotypical peers. and it's generally easier to standup for people with More Obvious And Disabling Disabilities against the people that already view YOU as the weirdo than with your friends, who are Similar Disabled To You but still Ableist Toward The People Who Are More Disabled Than Us. it's a dynamic that i lived as a kid who was A Little Off and it's a dynamic that i've seen a lot as an educator too.
and the fact that percy embraces tyson fully is so important! that's the stuff that kids need to see. Cool Hero Character That We Also Relate To being willing to maybe lose social status with his friends that he wants to like him for his brother with less of it is an important thing to show to middle grade readers. we are kin. we are ALL disabled and we shouldn't leave anyone out
