AM headcanon time: AM's "inner sanctum" is freezing cold. Not just average winter temps, but a chilly -40 at all times. It is kept extremely clean and dry, and before annihilation, any human that entered would have to don a cleanroom suit, alongside special winterwear designed for the conditions.

AM is... germophobic, when it comes to his heart. He will not allow a human near it, let alone inside. The survivors have gotten close, but never into it.
