My name is an anagram of "a maple" (Pamela). Inquisitive since 1997. I do try not to make bad puns 24/7, trust me. My url is an exception. I may be 16 according to my birth certificate, however I act either 7 or 84. There is no in between. I am the female embodiment of Manuel Delgado from Modern Family. I'm a wallflower while simultaneously acquiring a vivacious personality... I think. "If you’re too generous, you’ll eventually end up with nothing. But if you’re too selfish, you’ll eventually end up with no one."

“Go into the arts. I’m not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an an enormous reward. You will have created something.”

Catching Fire Sales (Text Analysis)
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/box-office-milestone-hunger-games-668416
1) The article is titled with big, bold letters and a massive picture that both grab the reader's attention. Then they're followed by short paragraphs with basic information that's relevant to the title. Each paragraph starts with a new topic.
2) The introduction summarizes the main ideas and then goes into details in the following paragraphs. It talks about how fast it broke the box office record, other successful movies, comparing Catching Fire to the Hunger Games profits, total ticket sales of Lionsgate Productions, and then the upcoming films in 2014 and 2015. These main ideas are expressed differently right after the next in short, separate paragraphs.

Cultural Rights
I think a country's culture ties in with the rights they are given because they're based on the people's customs and traditions. Different nationalities are provided with different rights based on their way of life.

My Favorite Movie
I have decided that I have 5 all-time favorite movies. The most recent one is called Stuck In Love, starring Logan Lerman, Lily Collins, and Nat Wolff. It is basically about a family of writers pursuing their careers as novelists and poets while discovering love in their own ways.
This film really inspired me. It taught me valuable lessons about moving forward, family, and writing. I also watched it the day that I wrote my own poem for the competition and I found it very relatable. It also may have made me cry at 5 different times.

UAE Rights
From doing this project and being exposed to the concept of human rights, I've learned that not all countries have freedom of religion; a lot of countries prevent people from expressing their beliefs. I think we're very lucky to live in a country that respects that. The government allows the construction of different places of worship.

The structure is clearly organized by having the title at the top of the page and the rest of the article in a clear format with paragraphs. This helps us understand the information clearly to not have us confused about the main idea. First, a brief description of Desmond is given and then it is...

Desmond Tutu Analysis
This text's structure is simple and basic, making it easier for readers to understand. It has a bold heading citing Tutu's name, year of birth, and a title that labels him. At that point I have an idea on what the article could be about. It starts with an introduction jam-packed with information on what Tutu is best known for and a little history on his life. This summarizes his profile and gives background information to those who do not know who he is. The overview also helped the reader grasp the message of the coming information. It is then followed by short body paragraphs about his accomplishments and his missions through the years. The chronological order is straightforward and quick. It ends with a clean conclusion that wraps everything up. If it had not been formatted that way and rambled on and on about irrelevant topics, I would probably have stopped reading. Instead, it was written in a way that was very clear and understandable. The article provided me with just important facts.

PSA Journal
In doing this project I learned how Public Service Announcements work. I found out that there is a certain process in the production of these short clips. They must have a purpose and a message. There is also take a lot of thorough research involved, like collecting and analyzing information. By the end of this week, our group aims to finish the poster, and work on the brochure.

Looking into the Future (Journal)
In five years, I see myself going to the college I like studying Communications courses. As I grow older, I want to spend my time enjoying what I do. At the same time, I would be also working to supplement my education. I just want to become more independent.

Possible Writing Prompts
Would you rather go back 5 years in the past or 10 years in the future?
How do you handle criticism?
Would you rather read a book with all the good things people said about you behind your back or the bad things?
Which one do you regret more; things you did or things you didn't do? Why?
If you could give one advice to your six-year-old self what would it be?
If you were to meet yourself as someone else, would you like her?

Work It
I feel like all the human rights are connected in one way or another. The one I chose to be most significant to me, Worker's Rights, is linked to six.
I believe that everyone should be able to choose (Freedom of Choice) whatever occupation they wish to pursue and not be discriminated according to their gender, race, or religion (Right to No Discrimination and Fair Treatment). Instead, we should be assessed by our abilities.
I also think that it is only right that reasonable working hours should be implemented. We all need some time to take a break. (Right to Rest) There are some laborers like construction workers who stand under the harsh rays of the sun all day and work in the dark all night for a meager wage. Speaking of wage, we should also receive fair payment in order to sustain our everyday lives. And with the money we earned we should be able to afford necessities like food, shelter, education and medication. (Right to Social Security and Education)

Passion (Journal)
pas·sion
noun \ˈpa-shən\
a strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for something or about doing something
My heart lies in things like books, music, fashion and a few sports. I just love how books can take you to a totally different world and how music can implant a certain emotion in you or tell a story just through words and indescribable sounds. (As superficial as it sounds) I really enjoy shopping. Sometimes I feel like it's a different form of art, pairing clothing, patterns, and textures together. I like how some sports like basketball causes my adrenaline to flow and make me competitive.
Having a passion for something gives you a drive and motivation to exert your 100% effort in it mainly because you love it.
My biggest role model is Jennifer Lawrence. She has a passion for acting. She is an impeccable and versatile actress, as seen on her performances in The Hunger Games, Silver Linings Playbook and X-Men. I admire how modest and genuine she is even as she stands under the spotlight.

I also feel strongly for equal rights for men and women alike. Sure, the society might be cruel on the females but sometimes we, as women, forget that men aren't exactly treated like kings either.
First of all, society respond very harshly when men make choices (whether it be big or simple) choices that resemble to that of women's. Like for example, when guys wear pink or choose to be a fashion designer as a career people think they have a different gender orientation. Can't men have the freedom as well?
Secondly, society expects men to make these gestures like offering to pay for a meal, opening doors or offering their seat in buses to women. And when they don't do these it is considered "disrespect" or "selfishness".
Another example is that some people say "real men don't cry." Males have feelings too. I don't see how it's unacceptable for them to show their emotion.
I may have gone a little overboard by disagreeing with just one point of Sara's post and writing 4 paragraphs about it, but those were my opinions and I wanted to share them. All I'm saying is nowadays people treat Feminism as an excuse to favor women, without considering the rights of men. I find it unjust and strange that there isn't a case supporting men.
- Pamela
Feminism is something I would strongly fight for. I firmly believe that men and women were created equally. Both men and women should have the same rights and privileges. Whether its political, economical, or social rights women should have them too! Unfortunately, it is hard to change the fact...

Just Don't Do It (An Injustice I Would Fight For)
The economy in most Asian countries aren't as successful as the western countries so their population tend to be really poor. The poverty can be so intense that these people would go lengths just to get money. They work multiple, small under-paying jobs or engage in illegal activity in order for them to survive everyday life. One of the feats these people take on is hard labor jobs which big companies offer. Now we could look at the positive (poor people being employed) but the overwhelming downside is that the people are underpaid and most of the workers are minors.
A few years ago Nike admitted to using child labor in the production of their apparel. The sports company hired children along the age of 9 from Cambodia, Vietnam, Pakistan, Indonesia and China to manufacture their products.
It is beyond unfair that these kids work long hours in a factory for a meager income instead of playing or going to school, while the companies profit from their work. However, the blame does not lie on Nike alone. Corrupt government officials are also responsible for the economic status of these third world countries. They exploit their power to deny citizens the right to live a comfortable life. It is unjust that while the poor people do virtually anything to survive, politicians live in the luxury of their mansions.

Peer Response
The Tumblr posts allowed us to be more expressive, as opposed to presenting them orally, so it was more effective and persuasive. We were also able to elaborate about our ideas.
I like working with other people because I get to hear different ideas and get inspired to think of my own. What I don't like is when my group-mates don't share opinions and just sit back. I could be more serious in groups because usually we don't think too much of it then we end up being unproductive. I think I did especially well in getting involved in the Justice play by writing some of the script and by playing my part in the skit.

Self Reflection
Over the course of this unit I realized how significant social media is in our daily lives. Before, I thought social media was just used to communicate with your friends and family, but as I saw the different examples made by my classmates I realized that it can also be used in business and spreading news.
Whenever we discuss collaboratively, I try to contribute as much ideas as I can to the group. When we were paired up my group-mates are usually reluctant to share or just fooling around. To avoid awkward silences and unproductive discussions, I start the conversation to encourage other people to pitch in.
Tumblr aided me in my writing because it allowed me to express my opinions freely and I was able to be as creative as I could be -- through articles, pictures or songs. It was also very enjoyable for me to scroll through others' posts because it was quick and accessible. Kind of like news in social media, I didn't have to look for them, they found me.
I think I did well in some of the tumblr tasks, mostly the ones about the reputation because that's the topic I feel most strongly about among the others. I also think my group did a decent job with our Justice play because the class seem to have enjoyed it as they laughed and were engaged in the presentation. I think I could have improved with my Book vs. Movie analysis in class. I struggled to identify the difference in the way the theme was presented in The Crucible and The Devil Wears Prada.
