Love how tumblr has its own folk stories. Yeah the God of Arepo we’ve all heard the story and we all still cry about it. Yeah that one about the woman locked up for centuries finally getting free. That one about the witch who would marry anyone who could get her house key from her cat and it’s revealed she IS the cat after the narrator befriends the cat.

It had been a week since Pandora started at Ravenville High. She stuck out like a sore thumb with her void black hair and hazel eyes when compared to her peers who, on an average, had sunshine blonde hair and blue eyes. She hadn’t made many friends because of this. A lot of girls at her school mocked and taunted her, especially Ashley and Maddy. Everyone tried to avoid Pandora as much as possible. That is, until they found out about her inheritance. Ashley and Maddy quickly came up to Pandora as she was putting her books in her locker.
“Hey Pandora. I love your hair today” Maddy smiled.
“We heard about your uncle. Our condolences” Ashley hugged Pandora quickly.
“Thanks” Pandora whispered out.
“We heard that he left you his estate in the forest. Is that true?” Ashley questioned.
“Yeah. He left it for me in his will” Pandora confirmed suspiciously.
“It must be pretty big to be that deep in the woods” Maddy smiled. “How come he left it to you and not, like, your parents or something?”
Pandora smiled darkly “I shared his love for the woodland creatures”
“Well that’s...cool” Maddy replied nervously.
“You’re super lucky to have a place like that” Ashley smiled determinedly
“Well I’ve only been there two or three times. I’m actually going up there this weekend. If you guys wanted, you can come with me. We can meet outside the school Friday and drive up” Pandora offered excitedly.
“Really? That would be great!” Maddy cheered.
“Yeah! A friend getaway weekend” Ashley smiled smugly.
Soon Friday came and the three went up to the cabin. The area was absolutely beautiful. The two-story cabin was made of oak log. Different trees surrounded the cabin, offering a palette of bright colors. The reds, yellows and oranges accented the wood. The only odd thing that the girls noticed was a large old scratch on the side of the cabin.
Pandora showed Ashley and Maddie to their rooms on the first floor and soon went to unpack her stuff in her room upstairs. Pandora ensured they had everything they needed: flashlights, maps, keys, compass, etc. After some time to get settled in the trio decided to explore the area with a small hike.
They decided to go north towards a waterfall Pandora mentioned. As they walked Ashley and Maddie mostly only spoke to each other. After about an hour of walking they came across a group of trees with large gashes, similar to the one on the cabin.
“What the hell caused these?” Ashley shrieked.
“Could have been a bear or something large” Pandora replied to the girl in front of her.
“I thought you knew about these animals and stuff” Maddy snorted.
“I do” Pandora smiled.
They only took a few more steps before they saw them. The sight sent shivers down their spines. The once white and now dirt brown color nearly blending into the pile of dried blood. The remains of something, the leftover scattered bones.
“What the hell is that?” Maddy screamed.
“Do you guys want to head back?” Pandora asked the two behind her.
“Um, ya think” Ashley rolled her eyes.
They quickly went back to the cabin and relaxed. They spent the day inside until it was getting dark. Pandora convinced the pair to come out for a campfire. She brought out marshmallows and hotdogs to roast over the fire. It was dead silent around them, odd for the forest. Just as they had relaxed with their snack, they heard a scream. One of a dying animal. Maddy and Ashley froze at the sound, while Pandora just listened.
“We should go inside for the night. I can make us some popcorn and get some sodas from the kitchen. We can play some games or something” Pandora offered the two frightened girls.
“Yeah, sure” The two agreed.
Soon they were back inside. Pandora went into the kitchen area and began to get the popcorn ready. Unbeknownst to her “friends”, she was listening to their conversation in the other room.
“I can’t believe you talked me into this” Maddy whispered. ”That girl is a total freak”
“You have to admit this cabin would be awesome for a party” Ashley laughed quietly.
“It would but is it worth it to have to pretend to like that creepy dweeb?” Maddy whispered aggressively.
“Look, we have to keep her close but not too close. If we do, maybe we can convince her to let us have prom party up here” Ashley replied.
Pandora only sighed at hearing the girl’s manipulative plan and brought the popcorn into the living room. She set down the bowl on the coffee table and sat on the couch.
“Did you hear that?” Ashley looked around the room, confused.
After a moment of silence Pandora and Maddy heard it. The sound of clawing at the front door.
“Someone should check it out. What if it’s a bear or a mountain lion or something” Maddy looked nervous.
Pandora got up and looked out the window that had a clear view of the door. She brushed the curtain back some and saw it. The creature stood an estimated 7 feet tall. It had the skeletal body of a man. It’s head was a skull of a deer with large sharp teeth and antlers. It had sword long claws for hands. Where its eyes should’ve been were deep empty sockets. She watched as the creature dragged its claws down the front door slowly.
“Get back from the door” Pandora whispered. “There’s something really bad outside”.
The two girls slowly backed away with her. Just as they reached the doorway to the kitchen, the clawing stopped. Ashley and Maddy peered out a window, only to see the creature circling the cabin. It quickly jumped at the window, clawing Maddy’s arm.
“Run!” Pandora yelled.
They ran as fast as they could and locked themselves in the room that had been designated for Ashley. The creature began trying to rip the door off.
“Oh my god! What is that thing?” Maddy screamed.
“It must have caused those marks on the trees!” Ashley yelled.
“It was responsible for those bones!” Pandora whispered, shocked. “We have to get out of here before it kills us”.
“What can we use to kill it?” Maddy cried, covering her arm in a blanket.
“The knives in the kitchen?” Ashley suggested.
“We could turn the oven on and blow the place up” Pandora suggested frantically.
They quickly braced and opened the door so the creature fell in as they went out. They all would have made it if the creature hadn’t of caught Ashley’s leg. It quickly grabbed her head and snapped her neck with a rather loud crack. It began to eat her body in the room. Maddy watched in horror until Pandora pulled her away. Maddy couldn’t stop crying as she searched for a knife. She and Pandora prepared to execute their plan as the creature came out of the room, red dripping down its face.
Maddy ran at it and started trying to slash it, to no avail. The creature picked her up by her throat and snarled at her. The loud crunch of her windpipe sent chills down Pandora’s spine as she watched from the stairs. The creature strode towards her and stared. It quickly took off out the broken window and into the night, sated for the night.
Pandora silently climbed the stairs and gathered her things. She packed them into her car and began her drive back home. She blared her favorite band’s CD as she recounted everything that had happened in the past 24 hours. She was the sole survivor. No injuries luckily, just some blood specks on her cheek.
Pandora took a deep breath and smiled “That was surprisingly easy”.
