fic idea: Izuku doesn't pick favorites... but Blackwhip does
Blackwhip doesn't have a mind of its own. Izuku knows that for certain. It undoubtedly reacts to his feelings and his heart. Still, it sometimes reacted in a way that was more instinct than not, before he could so much as have a conscious thought about something. He could control his heart, sure... but what about in the moments of pure instinct and reaction? In those moments, his subconscious reached out and he was all but powerless to stop it.
hehehe Blackwhip is an extension of Izuku's subconscious/reacts to Izuku's subconscious. Who does Izuku's subconscious love/think about more than anyone? Kacchan.
canon examples to reference (off the top of my head, there are probably more lol): uhhhh obviously when Blackwhip manifested in reaction to an insult to Katsuki, when Izuku was having a PTSD flashback of Katsuki getting stabbed during one of the anime-only Memories episodes and Blackwhip didn't stop Katsuki from literally attacking Izuku (in a spar but still), when Katsuki came back from the dead and they were doing their homotron 3000 spinny trick where Izuku slingshotted Katsuki to go save All Might and Blackwhip like wrapped around Katsuki's damaged arm to reinforce it (I hope I'm remembering the right scene, I'm not going to look it up but at some point Blackwhip wraps around Katsuki's super broken arm protectively)
Basically a fic of Blackwhip playing favorites with Kacchan hehehehehehehe
A crack fic perhaps? Crack treated seriously?
There's probably already a fic like this (probably many tbh) but I still want to write one someday perhaps
Izuku is the master of suppressing his feelings so I just think the idea of Izuku actively doing that while Blackwhip is constantly outing him is hilarious.
Also angst potential? There's no way Izuku's PTSD isn't wayyyyy worse after Katsuki dies so there could be a few examples of danger appearing and Blackwhip like instinctively protects Kacchan (maybe especially while Katsuki's still healing from his war injuries). Katsuki gets pissed off at Izuku outwardly, but it also makes him give Izuku that same look he gave him in the Memories episode (like the watchful one where he's like "you can't beat Shigaraki if you're doing all that" or something idk). Maybe he gets pissed off sometimes, when it's the more ridiculous moments (like there's very little danger but Blackwhip, aka ahem Izuku ahem, freaks out). Other times, when the danger was more serious, he's more somber and firmly reassuring (that he's okay, that Izuku needs to stop remembering that shit, etc).
Crack potential with Katsuki interacting directly with Blackwhip lmao. Like Izuku leaves it hanging out while training one time (like he did back in his vigilante days or whatever they're called) and he's talking to All Might or something. In the background, Katsuki walks up and stares at it, kicks it lightly with his shoe (thinks that it does look freaky when Izuku just leaves it out like this). Blackwhip doesn't move for a sec, then Katsuki shoves his toe at it more aggressively and then it shoots out and wraps around his ankle, yanking him off balance. He yelps and nearly falls (Izuku and All Might turn to look, Katsuki gets mad because he thinks Izuku did that shit, but Izuku has genuinely no idea what he's talking about). Blackwhip doesn't have a mind of its own, Izuku just knows Katsuki so well that even the extension of his subconscious knows Katsuki well enough to react to him (even playfully/to mess with him like in this moment).
Hehehe first kiss Blackwhip (aka Izuku's innermost desires ahem) wants that cookie so bad... they pull apart slightly and Katsuki is like "what're you doing?" and Izuku is like "huh?" and realizes Blackwhip is wrapped like possessively around Katsuki hehehehehehe and he freaks out and gets super embarrassed but Katsuki is so used to Blackwhips bullshit that he just rolls his eyes

In The Morning, I'll Be Seeing You (bkdk fantasy AU fic): Map/Terminology/Additional Notes
[SPOILER VERSION, contains spoilers from ch 1-7]
AO3 link for the fic:
https://archiveofourown.org/works/62228020/chapters/159191482
World Map:
Lore in greater detail:
(My extensive explanation that no one asked for but I'm including anyways because it was fun for me to think through. Anything in [brackets] is a real-world example of the vibe of the term or an elaboration on the fic's usage. You don't have to read it if you just want to skim through.)
“____ country” (ex. river country): general area of land characterized by its defining biome
towns/cities/kingdoms can be within one country or span between them (ex. Todoroki Kingdom spans through parts of plain and forest country)
Each country has a general border
It’s a geographical/social way of classifying things, not a political one
Since each country has peoples that share commonalities in lifestyle, features, etc, often people from the same reason are grouped together.
[Ex. irl, if you’re not from the USA, you might generalize someone as being “American” vs. when speaking to each other, Americans will specify which state or region they’re from, etc.]
[So: Katsuki is from one specific town and people in mountain country, but since this takes place in the southern region, people usually refer to him generally because he’s a foreigner. They’ll generalize him by his country (mountainfolk) or his race (dragonkind) or even generally as northerner.]
[You’ll notice that river and mountain country are mostly mentioned very generally while all the cities and towns in the southern region are referred to by name. This is the same sort of thing. Southerners are generalizing the northern region based off vague knowledge but obviously know more about the area they’re from and live in. In the fic, Izuku does this too. Which is obviously sad because Izuku is a northerner but doesn’t remember it. Despite his vague river country accent, he talks like he’s unfamiliar with the north and generalizes it in the same way everyone else from the southern region does.]
“_____folk” (ex. mountainfolk): people from that country/region
This is more like ethnicity than race. It has to do with shared culture, history, language, etc.
[Ex. irl, sort of like saying someone is Eastern European or West African. Very general way of referring to someone, but a bit more specific than European or African.]
[Though also, sort of like with saying someone is from “the South” or “the Northeast/New England” of the USA, sometimes this terminology is used to distinguish regions right next to each other. So, Izuku and Katsuki might get grouped together as “northerners” or someone might say they’re both from mountain country, but Izuku (with his memory) would clarify that he’s from river country. There’s a bit of pride/loyalty to where you’re from because of tradition/culture.]
[Basically, it can be used to generalize or specify depending on the context and who’s speaking.]
“_____kind” (ex. dragonkind): race
Everyone is a human-like person, with humankind being basically normal, irl humans.
The different races differ in terms of physical traits and, in some cases, types of magic.
They’re all the same species (human), just different races. This world has other species, even of human-like beings like centaurs and sirens, etc. Anyone with “kind” after their species is human.
It’s not super important to the story, but thought I’d mention. Race in this world does have to do with shared characteristics, but skin color isn’t really a huge factor. For example, Izuku guesses that Katsuki is from the north in part because he’s very pale, but also royalty or nobility of southern countries are sometimes pale. Basically, it’s not a major defining factor in all cases. This is partially because the canon characters are obviously all Japanese, but also because skin color is affected by other factors like magic.
Clarification:
Sometimes different terms are used to refer to the same person or there’s overlap between terms. Hopefully this isn’t too confusing. In my brain, I was just trying to replicate how things are in real life.
Ex. Katsuki is referred to as a northerner or mountainfolk or dragonkind. He’s technically all of those: Northerner: he’s from the north Mountainfolk: more specifically, he’s from mountain country Dragonkind: his race is dragonkind
Another example is Izuku. He's a northerner, riverfolk (from river country), and is both treekind and dragonkind.
In the specific case of dragonkind, it's usually assumed that they're from mountain country. This is just because historically dragonkind has lived up in the mountains (because that's where the dragons themselves live). Sometimes the terms mountainfolk and dragonkind are treated synonymously by characters in the fic, but they're not the exact same thing. This gets mentioned in the fic, I just wanted to clear it up here too.
So for example, since Katsuki is dragonkind people assume he's from mountain country, but this is a generalization. Though it's uncommon, being dragonkind doesn't necessarily mean they're from mountain country and vice versa. Sometimes people who are dragonkind live elsewhere or people who are mixed race. People who live in mountain country are majority dragonkind by a longshot, but again there are some people who are not and who are mixed race.
This is the only real case of one specific race being generalized with a specific country that's mentioned in the fic, so I just wanted to point it out in case it's confusing.
More Notes:
(These are the end notes from chapter 7 of the fic, just basically copy and pasted.)
Some other things I thought of when worldbuilding but didn't explicitly write anywhere:
Katsuki dresses like a foreigner/outsider on purpose. Despite how he is gawked at/ridiculed/ostracised because he is so clearly not from there, he makes no attempt to blend in at all over the years. While he has several contributing reasons for this (not wanting to change, wanting to stay connected to his people despite not being there, etc), the main reason is to purposely draw attention to himself. As mentioned in chapter 6, Katsuki gives Izuku the stealth cloak to try and keep him hidden because they have a lot of enemies from their youth and Izuku is vulnerable. Katsuki drawing attention to himself is another layer of that. If someone comes looking for them to try and cause them harm, Katsuki wants them to find him first, not Izuku.
Izuku's previous cloak also had a stealth spell, he just didn't know it (and of course, he doesn't know his new one does either). He talks about how people don't notice him and he tends to blend in very well with the crowd, and that's in part because he is cloaked in a protection spell he doesn't even know he's wearing.
Izuku doesn't keep a notebook because he's too smart. He gets too close to figuring things out and connects too many dots. So he always ended up "losing" them (Katsuki would get rid of them). Eventually, he stopped trying to keep a written record of things despite how he struggles with his memory.
The flower that turns red one day a year is known as "akamine" but what the rest of the world doesn't know is that it's the same flower as the green flower "midoriya." The flower grows all over the mountain, but only turns red one day a year, up towards the top of the mountain. Down the mountain and in the valleys, it stays green always. The kanji for Midoriya is 緑谷. 緑 means green and 谷 sometimes means valley. So in a literal sense, his name can be read as "green valley." The kanji for Akamine is 赤峰. 赤 means red and 峰 means peak/summit. In a literal sense, it can be read as "red summit." Of course these are both general interpretations, but I wanted to include the kanji I chose for Akamine for anyone who knows/reads Japanese because I know that Akamine can be spelled with different kanji. Also, I know these are both family names/surnames, but in the backstory I wrote out* it goes more into the flower and why Izuku's name is what it is and everything.
*I actually wrote out a lot of their backstory/Izuku's memories with the intent to include them, but it was getting long and was sort of a story all on its own. I thought about just adding another chapter but in the end it's really just sort of it's own fic. It tells a different story, different themes, all that. I'll post it as a separate fic at some point.
This is fic has an open ending. Originally, I didn't even include the plot point of Katsuki looking for a way to break the curse but I added it in later. I like to think he figured it out and broke the curse and they lived happily ever after, but maybe he didn't and maybe it doesn't matter because this is mainly a tale about devotion and the cruelty of life and the perserverence of love in spite of it all. So whichever way you want to imagine it, go for it.

In The Morning, I'll Be Seeing You (bkdk fantasy AU fic): Map/Terminology
[SPOILER-FREE VERSION]
AO3 link to fic:
World Map:

Basic Terminology:
"_____ country"
ex. river country
general area of land characterized by it's defining landform
[Note: These aren't political terms. Cities/nations/kingdoms move borders and locations over time and have no effect on these. These countries refer only to areas of landforms/specific biomes, not to governed countries.]
"_____folk"
ex. mountainfolk
people from that area (ex. forestfolk are people from forest country)
[Note: This is like an ethnicity rather than a political citizenship. It has to do with shared culture, history, and language. Peoples who live in the same country, and thus share similar types of land, tend to have similar lifestyles.]
"_____kind"
ex. dragonkind
a race of people
all are human, the races differ simply in terms of physical traits and types of magic that they have an affinity for
[Note: Race doesn't tell you for certain where someone is from, only something of their biological composition. Though some races are associated with certain areas, it isn't the same as ethnicity. For example, someone who is treekind may live in river country or forest country or wherever.]
"northerner/southerner"
fairly self-explanatory
generalized way of refering to someone from either the northern or southern region
Clarification:
Hopefully, I can clear this up preemptively. Sometimes, different terms are used to refer to the same person. I hope this isn't too confusing. I think my brain was just instinctively trying to replicate how things work in real life. Here's an in-the-fic example:
Katsuki is referred to at different points as northerner, mountainfolk, and dragonkind. These are all accurate and just depend on context/preference for why someone chose one over another. northerner: he's from the northern region mountainfolk: (more specifically) he's from mountain country dragonkind: his race
In the specific case of dragonkind, it's usually assumed that they're from mountain country. This is just because historically dragonkind has lived up in the mountains (because that's where the dragons themselves live). Sometimes the terms mountainfolk and dragonkind are treated synonymously by characters in the fic, but they're not the same thing.
This is the only real case of one specific race being generalized with a specific country that's mentioned in the fic, so I just wanted to point it out in case it's confusing.
I know this story isn't very long and maybe I shouldn't have made this so elaborate but it just sort of happened when I was picturing this in my mind. I don't know why my brain needed to flesh this out so much while writing but here we are. I hope that since the terminology is quite straightforward that it won't be too much effort to comprehend. Mainly, I hope it won't impact the ease of readability of the fic.
[Disclaimer: I came up with all this on the spot at like 3am while the insomnia was hitting. I didn't realize there was a canon MHA fantasy map from the season 2 ending until the next day, so I'd already come up with the general names and a vague map in my head the night before. If the names/landforms don't look like they go with the map, that's why. Also if none of the names or anything seem particularly complex or inspired, that's your reason for that as well. They're not. They're just the product of my 3am brain.]

crack fic idea: katsuki decides to come out (everyone already knew)
after a lot of thought, katsuki decides to come out (as gay or whatever your headcanon desires)
he starts to tell his friends and gets a variety of reactions
some people think he's doing a bit (as in, they already knew and thought that bkg was messing with them)
other people are just like?? uh, obviously??
katsuki's love interest (vague because I know people ship him with lots of people, so...) is like "I thought we were dating already?"
I saw this article a long time ago that was like "what not to say to your friend when they come out to you" or something?? it would be funny to include those. I can't find the article rn though :(
maybe after he comes out his friends do a bit of making sure to bring up the fact that he's gay all the time/call themselves "allies of the LGBTQ+ community" at every possible opportunity or something lmao
basically poking fun at him for it :)

fanfic idea: izuku falls in love easily. katsuki does not.
Basically the concept is that Izuku gets attached to people quickly and is one of those people that can't always easily tell the difference between platonic/romantic love. So he ends up in all these relationships/going on dates, unsure what he's looking for.
Katsuki is one of those people who can very definitely tell the difference between platonic and romantic love, and doesn't fall in love very easily. He's in love with Izuku (so jealousy, pining, etc).
Katsuki finally decides he has to move on and go on dates or something (which is annoying because he has very little patience for it), but maybe thinks he feels a spark with someone. Izuku finds out and his dumbass gets upset and realizes that he's in love with Katsuki.
Much drama and chaos and miscommunication could ensue here. But basically, in the end they figure their shit out and get together :)

fanfic idea: quirkless katsuki and izuku
(bkg=bakugou, dk=deku, obviously lol)
bkg and dk both grow up quirkless
bkg generally very angry/out to prove something/bitter about his place in society (he's a proud guy with an inferiority complex, he would hate being placed in a less than ideal group in society)
dk wants to be a hero, still impressed by bkg because of his fearlessness/confidence (so they're still friends)
bkdk get in a fight and bkg tells dk he'll never be a hero (he's angry and projecting; "don't you get it dk??")
dk tells him he's going to do it and prove him wrong
goes on to still inherit OFA
bkg joins support course, is unbelievably mad that dk has a quirk
dk tries to get bkg to talk to him, doesn't go well
maybe they make up because dk keeps getting injured and bkg builds his support gear??? idk but eventually they become friends again
could be romantic or platonic idk
I feel like the overall theme would differ on how it's written. Like it could be a commentary on how quirkless people are treated and how different bkdk react to it. Or it could showcase how bkg comes to accept himself and then helps dk accept himself. Idk, so many ways to write it honestly!

Fanfic ideas
I decided that I'm going to start posting my fanfic ideas on here (and maybe twitter?) because I usually just put them on a google doc but who knows if I'll get around to all of them ever. This way others can use them if they want or I can hopefully remember to come back to them. Or if people like one idea they can remind me to go write it lol

poetaster (noun)
for my first official post on tumblr, I thought I might as well use it to explain my username. poetaster is a derogatory word used for bad poets that was first coined in like the 1500s. I thought it was a funny username for me, seeing as I go by aster and I'm known for being very long-winded in both the spoken and written word.
I love writing and poetry, but I don't have much formal training on poetry specifically. thus I thought I'd poke fun at myself for never going to school for writing despite it being my favorite thing to do :) no aster, get the pre med degree. you'll love it.
anyways I'm not an official or learned poet, but I love to write more than anything. so not much I write has a whole lot of rhyme or reason outside the joy it brings me to create it. I'm not versed in the rules of poets, I just tend to spin words until I feel they've made something almost beautiful and connected. it makes me feel like a poet sometimes, but I doubt it makes me one in the eyes of academics. thus I feel the name poetaster is fitting.
