I have a very big wish to meet the heartland crew in person!!! I really adore them so How could I ever possibly meet them in person???? Im from Edmonton, Kentucky, 100% real and I just adore the cast but its the greatest wish, I got to meet them!!!!!!! Im just a poor country girl and not getting many hrs at work. Please!! Thank You & God Bless. Debby Manning
Hi, there. I wish I could help grant this wish. Alas, I’m just another fan, except I happen to live in the general vicinity of where they shoot the episodes. The only time I’ve been close enough to even have a chance of meeting any of them has been at public events advertised as such through the Heartland on CBC social media accounts. As you aren’t in Alberta, such opportunities would obviously make it difficult for you to attend. But if you’re ever in the High River area during their shooting season, there’s a possibility you may see some of them at the Maggie’s Diner set. God bless, and I do hope you’re able to make your wish come true.

The sinking feeling when you notice a continuity error in a fic you completed three years ago. (Okay it was so minor it’s doubtful anyone picked up on it, but still. Gah! I can’t believe I never caught it until today. 😑)

to clarify:
watts is being charged with felony abuse of a corpse, nothing to do with abortion.
watts was 22 weeks pregnant. after pain and bleeding, she went to the hospital. they decided she needed an induction as the fetus was not viable, but allegedly debated for around 8 hours. she went home without being induced. induced delivery is not against the law and has nothing to do with abortion law.
watts had a miscarriage at home and the child ended up in her toilet. the toilet clogged with the baby, placenta, tissue, etc.. she took out some of the tissue and put it outside near her garage on the ground, repeatedly flushed and plunged the toilet, and then went to a hair appointment. the hairdresser noticed she looked unwell, so she took her to the hospital.
when at the hospital, a nurse asked where her baby's remains were, and the nurse called law enforcement, who went to watts' house to investigate.
the police had to take apart her toilet and pipes, and finally found her baby wedged in the pipes after she had flushed and plunged them down the toilet.
Tumblr media
brittany watts is not being charged for having a miscarriage, she is being charged for felony abuse of a corpse after flushing and plunging the corpse of her child down the toilet.
for reference, this is what a baby born at 22 weeks looks like. children have been born at 22 weeks and survived. she did not miscarry a small "clump of cells".
Tumblr media
and if you're wondering how completely biased the media is portraying this case, here are some headlines:

“The unborn" are a convenient group of people to advocate against. They never make demands of you; in fact they can't even speak. They can't confront your ignorance when you call them tumors or parasites. They're powerless to denounce your lethal ableism when you suggest it's better to never live than to live with disabilities, or to condemn your classism when you imply it's better to not be born than to be born poor. They can't ask you to reckon with your racism when you tout higher abortion rates for PoC as empowerment. They can't implore you to step up and support mothers who feel they have no choice. You can forget about the unborn, mute and helpless to remind you they are here. You can advocate for abortion without substantially challenging your power or privilege to have been born yourself, to get to experience life in all its pain and beauty. You can advocate for abortion without reluctance or remorse - on demand and without apology - and never have to face the humans whose lives you've deemed worthless.
The unborn are, in short, the perfect group to dehumanize with no risk to yourself. They can't. fight back. They're stuck in a small space, forced to die in silence.”

Tumblr is the new TV Guide magazine. Way back in the day, those suckers had *incredibly* lengthy episode synopses of all the TV shows every week. I didn’t have cable, but I could tell you exact what was happening on every show just by reading those publications. Man, those were the days…
tumblr is great because I know the plotline of at least fifteen different tv series without ever having seen an episode

I’m an “edit-as-I-go writer”, almost to a fault. It’s the only way I know how to do it. Perhaps because I generally have a very good idea in my brain of how my story will run before I sit down and type anything, I don’t need a rough outline: It’s already all there in my head in some form or fashion. I can have full chunks of dialogue and scenes occupying precious mental RAM for months and months while I puzzle out a story sometimes. The arduous (but very satisfying) part is getting it all down. Refining along the way (multiple times until I’m satisfied everything flows) is the main reason my updates tend to be slow when I post something.
📖 On editing as you write
I've seen a lot of "don't edit as you write" and "just get it all down on the page as fast as you can and keep going" writing advice online. While this totally works for some people and some projects, especially if you're writing with an outline and/or are very momentum-driven, I'd like to offer a different perspective.
Editing as you go, reworking the same scene or chapter a few times before you move on, and focusing on small details in early drafts can be super helpful for some writers.
I usually discovery write these days, so doing a deep dive into most scenes as I go along is amazing at helping me understand the story as it develops and it gives me a clearer insight into the characters and their motivations. Zooming through a zero draft or first draft wouldn't serve the same function for me.
Yes, there are definitely scenes and chapters that I fly through and just get the words out, knowing those sections are purely functional for now and I'll come back to them later. Those tend to be the more plotty and actiony parts for me, where what I need to make progress is this-happens-then-that-happens information.
But obsessively fiddling with individual words and sentence structure when it feels right enables me to really dig into my story. It doesn't prevent me from moving forward. It helps me move forward in the right direction. It lets me build the foundation I need and it gives me a cleaner draft to work from when it comes time to revise.
So if you feel like you're Doing It Wrong™ because you prefer to edit as you go, you aren't. You're just doing it differently from how some other people do it, and that's OK. We all have our own processes. Sometimes different projects, or different stages of the same project, call for different approaches.
If it's working for you, it's working. Keep going 💜

More Plot Hole Heartland...
Don't get me wrong. I've actually loved a lot of Season 17 of Heartland. But they get themselves into trouble, it seems, with their dead characters. This time around, it's Lyndy (Sr.). Granted, even I didn't quite pick up on this one right when it dropped, but on further reflection, I now know why the "Jack has rift with Jess" plot line struck an odd note with me.
SPOILER ALERT. Read no further to avoid stuff.
Jess took the bold move of shooting a candid photo of Jack. She had all this flowery language about the lighting, the vulnerability of this tough cowboy standing at a gravesite, blah, blah, blah... And Jack was justifiably upset to have had an intimate moment caught on film and put on display in a public gallery showing...
Tumblr media
The intimate moment at the gravesite in question is where the potential trouble comes in.
Why?
The headstone is apparently Lyndy's (Jack's late wife).
A headstone we've never seen before.
A headstone that should not exist, because Jack told Lisa way back in Season 1 that he spread Lyndy's ashes at the riverbank near the fishing cabin.
Granted, Jack could also have interred some of Lyndy's ashes at the Heartland cemetery, but all this time we never knew of a Lyndy headstone.
The conflict between Jack and Jess was weak, and even unnecessary, in my opinion (apologies to the writer[s] who pitched that idea). In my opinion, it would have worked better had it been June's headstone, or even Marion's headstone, because then there wouldn't have been any ret-conning of events for it to work. But I digress.

We caught only a snippet of this song during Ep. 1708 of Heartland during the very beginning of the gallery scene, but for some reason it grabbed my attention. The end credits were irritatingly no help, so I'm grateful for the AHA music/song finder extension that identified it with only a few short bars of music available. It's called Could Not Be Another One by:
Thomas Kenneth Varrall/Rupert Thomas Oldnall Morgan/Jonathan Joseph Hodari
Album: Cali Soul
Release Date: 2020-09-01

Favourite JISA Scenes?
With 16 seasons (and 112 episodes Lisa's appeared in) to draw from, what are your favourite Jack and Lisa scenes? Drop them all here; the more the merrier! They could be well-known, or they could be obscure. I might have a couple projects brewing in the background, and your comments might come in handy.

I agree about Lisa!! Do you know why she is never included in the promos?
Your guess is as good as mine. I doubt we'll ever receive a decent or satisfactory answer about this.

Of course I had to take a few shots of the screen during the S17 trailer during the brief JISA scenes.

Because Lisa needs to be in the Season 17 poster, that's why. (Just when we thought things were improving on that front with Season 16's offering, they take a step backwards with the Season 17 Official Poster Art. Sigh)
Including Lisa in this fan-art is made for entertainment purposes, only. Yes, it looks terrible because matching light and angles is by no means my forte.
