with that being said though, he expects you to fawn over him a lot as well, because the man thrives on attention

will purposefully act extra pouty in front of you over the smallest things, just so you can pay him some attention, pat him on the head and ask him what's wrong

he'll then go on to complain about the smallest things, like how the barista at the cafe put 2 sugars in his drink instead of 3, or how justin ate the rest of his favourite cookies

however, despite all of his whining about these insignificant problems, zhengting does have a habit of hiding the more important issues; the ones relating to his physical and mental state

at the beginning of your relationship, he was the type to only report good news, and skip over the bad

he'd tell you that he landed a flip perfectly for a dance, but wouldn't tell you that he pulled his back in the process

he'd tell you that he had reached another follower milestone on weibo, but wouldn't tell you how hurt he was by the thousands of degrading comments under each of his posts

you had confronted him about it, and it was the first time that he had cried in front of you, telling you that he didn't want to burden you with his problems

this habit has gotten a lot better with time, though, and he feels so much more comfortable about talking to you about his hardships

all in all, your relationship with zhengting is one that others admire, full of mutual support and understanding, and i'm sure that the two of you could not be happier

note: ‘i work at a movie theatre and i’m cleaning up after the movie is over and you’re the only person left because you’re ugly crying with popcorn over your lap’ au; for @princess-megz ilysm u deserve the world

see, chan didn't particularly like his job at the local theatre's snack bar

apart from being stuck behind a cramped counter all day, he has to deal with the constant heat emanating from the popcorn machine, the constant noise of screaming children when their parents refused to buy them that bag of gummies, and explain to at least five customers per day that yes, the regular popcorn is actually $15

the pay isn't great either; nowhere near enough to cover all the needs and wants of a typical college student

but chan is chan, and chan tries to make the best out of everything, so he somehow makes it work

he doesn't see the point in being a grump to customers, especially when they're paying for overpriced tickets and overpriced food just to see a subpar movie

so he makes an effort to initiate friendly conversations with the customers, fills drinks up to the top of the cup, and occasionally sneaks cute kids a chocolate bar or two

you enter the picture on a thursday night, wearing a tired smile as you ask chan for a small popcorn, hands fumbling with a ticket to the monthly late night showing of the titanic

chan does the usual, packing the salty snack into the carton and wishing you a good time as you trudge off towards the designated cinema

during the last half hour of  his shift, cleaner minho slides over, begging chan to clean the last cinema for him because he needs to study for a test the next day

and it's been a long day for everyone, but college students help out other college students, and chan lets him go

after making sure that the movie is over, the temporary cleaner struggles his way to the cinema, dragging the heavy vacuum behind him

the credits are up on the screen, celine dion's voice drifting through the speakers, and chan gets to work

cleaning does not take long due to the minimal audience, and he speeds through the rows, hoping to get this over and done with as soon as possible

and it's when he gets to one of the middle rows that he discovers you, crumpled into one of the seats, popcorn spilled all over your jeans and the floor surrounding you

a closer peek at your face confirms that yes, you are crying, face contorted as you rack with silent sobs

chan's chest tightens involuntarily, and he squats down in front of you, popcorn pieces crunching underneath his feet as he tries to get your attention

and it isn't until he asks you what's wrong that you let out a loud wail, arms shooting forward to wrap around his neck, knocking the popcorn carton onto the floor as you bury your face into his shoulder

chan's first thought is that woah, he's got his arms full of a crying stranger, what the hell does he do now

but also, holy shit your hair smells amazing

the next ten minutes is spent with you dampening a considerable portion of chan's shirt, whilst the boy hoped that you're too much of a mess to notice that he's inhaling the scent of your hair products

once you started to calm down, chan pulled away, retrieving a crumpled napkin from his jean pocket for you to blow your nose

you manage to thank him through the round of hiccups that follow your sobfest, and apologises profusely when you see the large wet patch on the shoulder of his shirt

normally, this should be where you go your separate ways, leaving chan to finish cleaning the cinema and you to return to your dormitory

but life is anything but normal, and after a sudden burst of confidence, instead of letting your leave, chan holds onto your arm, and asks you if you wanted to get some food with him

and honestly, how could you refuse someone like him food?

which results in you and chan sitting across from each other in a food joint at twelve o'clock in the morning, discussing the ending of the titanic over shots of soju and a heaping plate of fried chicken

you were getting way too worked up, rambling nonstop about how stupid jack was to willingly freeze to death in the water when the plank could have fit at least another three people

and chan found you cute, even when you have sauce at the corner of your mouth and exclaiming loudly that 'jack should've just told rose to move the fuck over'

he also learns that the film wasn't the real reason as to why you were crying earlier - college was getting too overwhelming, and your friends had simply suggested that you watch a sad movie to help relieve some of the stress

the type to plan out his whole week every monday morning, promising that he’ll follow his timetable, but fucks it up an hour later by spending five minutes too long in the bathroom

works for half an hour and spends two hours scrolling through cute puppy photos

spends every lunch break with you talking, mostly asking questions about you to get to know you better

laughs a little too loudly at everything you say, and tries to deny it when chan calls him out for it

always asking chan colleagues to run errands for him, whether it’s photocopying that 150-page document or getting him a drink from the cafe down the street

is somehow always busy when something needs to be done, but is work-free when someone plans on shouting lunch for the office

complains to fellow worker minghao about how good you look in your work attire, but gets super offended when he told him to just ask you out

purposefully raises his voice near you when telling someone he’s free that afternoon, just in case you wanted to get a coffee or something

got so distracted staring at you in a meeting once that he almost got moved to another department

is generally pretty quiet, staying in his lil corner of the office doing what he needs to do

doesn’t contribute much to conversations, but once in a blue moon will say something so iconic that the whole office will still be laughing over it a week later

doesn’t make much of an effort to talk to you; quite content with just observing you from afar for the time being

did he still lowkey pressure seungcheol into backing out of a project so that he can work with you? you fucking bet

notices a lot of your little habits, and is always paying full attention to you when you’re talking

junhui

doesn’t like to sit down for extended periods of time, and is always looking for excuses to leave his desk and walk around for a bit

bounces in his seat whenever he gets stuck on a report because it ‘helps him think’

flirts with everyone in the office apart from you because he can barely look you in the face without blushing

gets so giddy whenever you laugh at something he says, and gushes about it to minghao afterward

you called him handsome once and he got so red that he had to take a 20-minute breather in the bathroom

is loud and jokes around with everyone, but is so efficient with his work that he can’t even be scolded for it

becomes so serious when something needs to be taken care of urgently, and will contribute some of the best ideas under those situations

can hold a pointless conversation with seungcheol for two hours, but gets so nervous around you that he doesn’t know what to say

still tries to be as smiley as possible around you because he wants you to think that he’s friendly (and also because he heard you telling jeonghan that you thought his smile was cute)

complimented your hair when he was drunk during an office party once and couldn’t look you in the eyes for the next week 

wonwoo

has a couple of small succulent plants on his desk, and kicked soonyoung out of his desk by the window so that they can get more sunlight

didn’t get annoyed when mingyu accidentally stepped on his brand new white shoes three times in a row, but almost punched a hole through the window when an email refused to send

sits at his desk instead of in the kitchen with the others during lunch, and reads a book whilst eating

got so excited when he saw a novel by his favourite author on your desk once and talked about it with you for a full hour

somehow holds so much authority within the office that the manager is constantly questioning their position

gets so into his work that he forgets to eat; and is secretly thankful towards mingyu for shoving food into his mouth at random intervals throughout the day

probably pays soonyoung a regular salary to buy him three coffees a day

barely talks to anyone throughout the day but would put off his work just to tell you about how his computer didn’t boot that morning

lowkey glares at anyone sitting next to you in meetings until they move, but pretends he didn’t do anything when you look at him weird

sends the whole department a cute little email every monday, hoping that everyone has a good week

such a kind person - helps chan edit his reports; fills up soonyoung’s mug when it’s empty; tells jeonghan bad jokes to make his laugh after a rough day

is so good at listening to people’s problems that the office has actually created a booking list for him on google spreadsheets

you have somewhat of a special relationship with him, because you’re one of the few people who actually asks seokmin about his troubles

probably has a stash of cucumbers in the fridge, and munches on them as a snack

multi-tasks so well; is able to rant to hansol about his weekend and reply to complicated emails at the same time

nags at chan every morning for not tying his tie properly

took a bite out of minghao’s cucumber once out of pure curiosity, then proceeded to eat six slices of pizza for lunch to ‘combat the healthiness’

the marketing department has been begging asking him to transfer over since forever because of how good he is at talking

seungkwan’s answer is always ‘no’ though, because he wants to continue working with the guys

has so many good ideas, but doesn’t voice them unless he’s tipsy

you enter the picture a few weeks before christmas in the form of a homeless cat shelter worker, desperate to find a home for the remaining 24 cats under your care

however, as christmas neared, the number of furred friends in the shelter seemed to not decrease by one bit, and you spent your days sitting in the play area surrounded by them, worrying about their not-so-bright futures

you would very willingly adopt all of them into your own home, but since you already spent minimal time in your apartment, you knew that it was impossible for you to be a good companion for the cats

which is why on the 15th of december, you walked out of the local mart carrying an entire box of cat treats at 6 o’clock sharp, your wallet sadly deflated in your back pocket

to say that yongguk was shocked to find the entire shelf of expensive cat treats empty later that morning is an understatement

to his knowledge, the snacks that he buys for lucy are always in stock, since most customers prefer cheaper alternatives

slightly thrown off, he could do nothing but return home emptyhanded, feeling guiltier towards his cat than he should’ve been

needless to say, lucy was not pleased at the piece of spam offered her in consolation at the lack of gourmet organic chicken bites, and didn’t bat an eye at yongguk for the rest of the day

walking into the mart the next morning, yongguk was determined to get his cat her chicken bites, but yet again, found the entire shelf devoid of anything

a quick ask around the mart told him that every morning, a woman comes in at the crack of dawn to purchase nothing but a huge pile of cat treats, and that was when yongguk decided that enough was enough

waking up at the earliest time he has ever woken up the next day, yongguk speed walks to the mart, only to find you already at the cat treat shelf, piling the last packets of lucy’s chicken bites into your basket

walking up to you, he takes a deep breath before asking you quietly if you could spare him a packet for his cat to eat before she eats him, thinking that you would most likely be kind enough to offer him at least one bag

which explains the blatant surprise on his face when you apologised, breathing out a ‘i need all of this today’ before briskly walking off towards the cashier, hoping to get to your cats as soon as possible

leaving yongguk frozen for a few minutes in the middle of the cat food aisle, mind blank at the blunt nature of your words

that night, he stares a disinterested lucy in the face, eyes set in determination as he promises that she’s going to get her treats tomorrow, no matter what

you walk into the mart the next morning, mentally prepared to spend another couple dozen dollars on cat food

however, nothing would’ve prepared you for the emptiness that was the cat treat shelf, the colourful packets replaced with nothing but what appeared to be a small piece of paper

picking it up, your eyes immediately narrowed at the familiar message scrawled onto the page in lazy handwriting

‘sorry. i need all of this today.’

ten minutes away in yongguk’s apartment, whilst lucy was enjoying an entire package of her beloved chicken bites, her owner was staring at his now-empty wallet in disdain, the only bit of satisfaction stemming from the fact that he had actually beat you to the snacks

ever since that silent declaration of war, both you and yongguk’s mornings have been absolute chaos

you would both rush to wake up in the morning, with you sometimes not even bothering to smooth out your hair before heading out the door, and with yongguk surprising lucy at the speed he’s been moving throughout the house 

it would, on most occasions, result in you arriving at the mart first, and even though yongguk always looks somewhat disgruntled whenever he sees you standing at the cashier before him with a triumphant grin, he’s began to secretly thank you, because his wallet has suffered more in those few bulk purchases than it has in his entire life

however, curiosity eventually started to build up in yongguk’s system, and by the end of another week, he was lowkey dying to find out what you did with all those packets of treats

which led to him trailing after you out the mart after another success on your side, taking care to keep his distance so that you didn’t notice him

as you weaved through the streets, yongguk started to go through the possible scenarios he would face a few minutes later

were you perhaps just an attractive cat lady with 30 cats, and they didn’t eat anything other than treats?

did you plan on reselling the treats at a higher price for profit?

oh, for the love of god, he really hoped that you weren’t one of those people who were obssessed with cat food and treated them like meatballs

however, all of his thoughts were proved wrong when he looked up at the small building you entered, eyes widening at the brightly coloured sign that read ‘the lost cats’ home’ hanging above the doorway

walking up to the entrance, taking in the small setup of your workplace before his eyes landed on your kneeling figure, a bright smile on your face as you opened up packets of the treats to feed the mass of cats that surrounded you, purring appreciatively

and for once in his life, yongguk’s eyes were not settled on the furry creatures, but on your face, softer than usual as you cooed at your small companions 

thinking back, purchasing that amount of cat food everyday must’ve cost you quite a lot, and to think that you were willing to sacrifice so much of your money for something that wasn’t even part of your job,,,

you were selfless, you were undeniably cute, and you loved cats?

yongguk was only broken out of his reverie when you turned around, eyebrows raised when you spotted the last person you would have expected

‘what are you doing here?’ you asked, standing up to face him, ‘looking to adopt a cat?’

feeling more flustered than he has ever felt in his entire life, yongguk’s gaze fell from your face to the creatures that surrounded your feet, asking to be petted by nudging their heads against your ankles

‘shouldn’t you be on christmas break already?’ he asked back instead, despite somewhat having an idea of what your reason would be

he did not, however, foresee how down you became at his question, squatting down to scratch the head of a particular black cat with striking blue eyes

‘i can’t just leave them there,’ you replied after a sigh, ‘my coworkers are willing to feed them, but i didn’t want them to be left alone for christmas, which is why i’m spending it with them.’

yongguk found the frown on your face a little too hard to look at, seeing as you were willing to basically give your life for the felines

feeling an overwhelming need to somehow make you smile again, his mouth opened on its own accord, and blurted out the first thing that came to his mind

‘i-i’ll adopt one.’ 

and for him, seeing the light return to your eyes at his statement was worth every dollar that he spent later that day on pet registration

walking back home with a cardboard box in his hands, yongguk was still left in some sort of daze, his mind thinking back to the bright smile on your face as you waved him off from the shelter

and now, with a new pet in hand, your number scribbled onto a piece of paper in his back pocket and maybe a date scheduled for next tuesday, yongguk was the happiest man in the world

all you had done after catching the teary eyes of the child was to give her a smile

upon the ceasing of her cries, the other passengers averted their glares, and seungcheol was beyond thankful

‘thank you’, he said sincerely, tucking a strand of his daughter’s hair behind her ear, ‘she had been crying for almost an hour already, and i still don’t know why. she usually isn’t like this’

‘she seems like a great kid,’ you responded, giving him a small smile, and seungcheol froze, immediately understanding why his daughter was so in awe earlier

there was something about your features that just drew him in, whether it be the genuine kindness shining in your eyes or the gentle curve of your lips, and for a second, it almost felt like he was falling in love for the first time

however, habits die hard, and he abruptly broke away from his thoughts, reminding himself firmly that he already had enough in his life to take care of, and was about to turn away from you when his daughter spoke up

your eyes widened at the innocent question, briefly meeting seungcheol’s own flustered gaze before leaning down to face her own determined features, ‘why?’
