The “House Tour” Set List
The “house tour” is becoming one of the most requested and viewed pieces of content on the web. People are curious about how others take a space and make it their own. And it makes sense! Our homes are an extension of us and our personal style. So audiences are dying to know how to properly outfit their abodes to speak the appropriate volumes.
Here’s a quick playlist of house tours I’ve recently enjoyed.

What are your thoughts on home design? Is it meant to be more practical and functional? Or is it an outward expression like your wardrobe? (note: if you found your way to this blog, I think I know your answer :))

What’s on the Inside Matters
We all get excited to decorate a fresh new space. Then when the time comes to narrow down our ideas and make them work (harmoniously), we can get stuck sometimes.
Tumblr media
Photo: Natasha Ndlovu
For these moments, I like to open Pinterest. But even this photo-filled site can feel overwhelming, at times. In these desperate situations, I like to check out Natasha Ndlovu’s Interiors page for a more curated burst of inspiration. While the page itself is still growing, I can’t helped but be obsessed over how Natasha brings her personal style into living spaces.
Tumblr media
From what I’ve seen so far, Natasha takes a great deal of care when garnishing even the smallest of spaces. And her posts are complete with a shopping gallery of items you can click on to complete a similar look for your own home.
Trust me when I say you won’t be disappointed!

Every Cloud has a Silver-Lined, Ultra-Studded Leather Jacket
The annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was recorded last Monday, but not without a few hiccups before, during and after the show.
Tumblr media
Source: Harper’s Bazaar
Scheduled performer Katy Perry and popular model Gigi Hadid were reportedly denied visas and had to drop out of the Shanghai show last minute. During the show, model Ming Xi fell on the runway. While she recovered gracefully, it was one of the top-trending topics on China’s social networking site Weibo. Then, according to WWD, Chinese authorities broke up the festivities of the show’s after party just before midnight.
With so many things not going as planned, it’s nice to know that the Victoria’s Secret x Balmain collaboration was everything we could have imagined and more. Harper’s Bazaar reported that this was the first time the lingerie giant teamed up with a high-end designer for runway looks and a retail collection, available in-store and online starting November 29 (the day after the show airs on CBS).
The theme of the collaboration was punk including studded leather jackets, laced-up over-the-knee-boots, plaid, safety pins, spikes, and chains. Here are few of my favorite looks from the runway.

If you’re like me, you’ll be tuning in to the show on Tuesday and checking out the retail collection online to get a better look!

Stylebook: My Weekend Warrior
(This is a class assignment)
The perfect app can transform a stressful situation into a no-brainer.
Tumblr media
Friday night finally rolled around last week, and I had plans to meet up with friends to kick off the weekend. I had a vague idea of what I wanted to wear --something comfortable, warm, and trendy for the movies and a subsequent bar visit -- but I wasn’t completely sure and was in a time crunch. On top of that, I forgot to pack for the weekend getaway I was to leave for Saturday morning. But just before I began to panic, I remembered that I have Stylebook.
With Stylebook, I was able to catalog all of the pieces in my wardrobe, categorize them, create outfits, and even schedule outfits in a calendar. This app saved my weekend! I browsed through my “Movie Night” category and found the perfect outfit to carry me through the night. Done!
Next, I had to pack a carry-on bag for a 2-day stay in Palm Springs, and I had to do it fast. I remembered that earlier in the week I had created a “Packing List” on Stylebook just in case something like this happened. (Do I know myself, or what?) I brought out my suitcase, opened my packing list, and used the Checklist feature to check off each item as I packed it in my bag. And just like that, I was fully prepared and ready to tackle my weekend!
This only scratches the screen’s surface of what Stylebook is capable of. You can import images, shop some of your favorite retailers, track how often you wear a particular item, and more. Watch the demo below to learn about the app’s basic features, then experience its magic for yourself! Download the app and keep up with Stylebook upgrades and tutorials on stylebook.com.

7 Velvet Pieces You Need to Crush It this Fall
Velvet has been trending for a while now. So much so, almost everything you can imagine comes in velvet during this time of year. But let’s start with a few basics you can pick up to add an element of luxe to your wardrobe, especially for the coming holiday season.
Tumblr media
Morris Floral Velvet Blazer - Urban Outfitters
Tumblr media
Embroidered Velvet Wrap Dress - TopShop
Tumblr media
Embossed Velvet Pull On Pants - Free People
Tumblr media
Croc Velvet Bomber Jacket - Revolve
Tumblr media
Nina Liddie Velvet Envelope Clutch - Lord & Taylor
Tumblr media
Ivy Park Velvet Embossed Slide Sandal - Nordstrom
Tumblr media
EDIT Boots - Steve Madden
While not all of these styles are easy to pull off, my go-to trick is to choose a stress-free item like the blazer or clutch after I’ve asked myself “what can I throw on with a t-shirt and jeans?”
So take your pick, and happy styling!

Style Staples: How to Wear Combat Boots
Combat boots may be intimidating, but they are a necessity, especially in the fall and winter months. They are comfortable and instantly add edge to any outfit you can think of. And if you think they’re too edgy for you, InStyle’s Taylor Reagan will tell you that “combat boots are for every type of gal.”
Check out these examples:
With Jeans
Tumblr media
@natalieoffduty
You can’t go wrong wearing jeans with any pair of shoes. Combat boots will just make it look like you tired more than sneakers will.
With Shorts
Tumblr media
@nanysklozet-blog
For those warmer days, follow the same criteria given about jeans and replace them with shorts. Voila!
With a Skirt
Tumblr media
@thefashionguitar
Wearing combat boots with a skirt can seem tricky. There are no rules, but if you get stuck, consider proportions. For instance, pair slim fitting skirts with slim fitting boots, and so on.
With a Dress
Tumblr media
@chiaraferragni
The juxtaposition of a feminine dress paired with combat boots creates an interesting twist that’s both girlie and relaxed.
With Fun Tights
Tumblr media
@stylescrapbook-blog
If the weather is cooler or you don’t like to go bare-legged, throw on some colored, printed, or patterned tights with your combat boots.
What’s your favorite way to wear combat boots? What’s your favorite pair of combat boots this season? Let me know!

GASP! Rih-Rih’s Post Labor Day Airport Attire
Rihanna wearing an all-white assemble to John F. Kennedy airport sparked some conversation this weekend. Ever since Rihanna’s fashion week takeover when she launched her Fenty Beauty line and presented another successful runway collection, her face frequently graces my social media feed next to a caption about a new look or public appearance.
Tumblr media
With regards to this particular instance, I wondered why it was newsworthy that Rihanna wore a white hoody with white sweatpants tucked into white boots. Is it because she was able to pull a bold look together after a busy week that featured her holiday line with Fenty Beauty and a speaking engagement at Vogues “Forces of Fashion”? Or was it because she looked more put together at the airport than any of us would attempt? (Kudos!) And then I wondered, is it because she’s wearing white after Labor Day? a strange style practice of unknown origin to myself. Whatever the reason for calling attention to Rihanna’s flight fit, I was now determined to find out how this arbitrary dress code came about.
Surprisingly, it dates back to the late 19th century. An article published by Mental Floss summarizes that high society ladies wanted to secretly set themselves apart from the newly rich, so they created a set of fashion rules that everyone in the know had to follow. A random date was chosen as to when they would all stop wearing white for the summer. Then, when Labor Day was declared a federal holiday in 1894, society eventually adopted it as the natural endpoint for summer fashion.
Well, we may not know why Rihanna’s air-wear was brought to our attention, but at least we all know why wearing white after Labor Day is said to be unacceptable. Dare to be like Rihanna and take fashion rules into your own hands!

Levi’s Denim Jacket takes on 50 Looks
Another staple that every man, woman, boy and girl should own is a denim jacket. It’s a versatile and durable piece that instantly dresses down anything and goes with almost everything in your wardrobe. And if you’re like me, you might even own more than one because they come in so many shapes, sizes, and colors. But don’t just take my word for it. On Thursday night in Los Angeles, Levi’s marked the 50th anniversary of their iconic Type III trucker jacket by revealing 50 jackets customized by 50 celebrities, designers, musicians, and influencers from around the world.
Tumblr media

“Having these adjacencies with the people at the center of culture is super important, whether they are musicians or fashion designers,” says Levi’s head of design Jonathan Cheung to Business of Fashion.

In case you were wondering, Levi’s will not be selling these jackets or making reproductions of them. That’s too bad, because I had my eye on CL’s custom design. Check out this LINK to a Glamour slideshow of all 50 styles. Which is your favorite?

Top 5 Wearable Fashion Week Trends
Tumblr media
There are plenty of platforms out there monitoring the street style and runway trends seen at the Spring/Summer 2018 Fashion Week shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. But with so much information and inspiration surfacing, it can be hard to figure out which trends are wearable for right now, as well as the upcoming spring and summer seasons. Not to mention translating the runway trends into wearable styles for the everyday.
So here are examples of the top 5 runway trends, their street style interpretations, and some tips on how to make them work for you.
BELT BAGS
Tumblr media
Zimmerman SS18 RTW
The fanny pack is back with a new look! While carrying your essentials, the belt bag also cinches your waist for a more flattering silhouette. And like the street style photo, it can be a simple way to add a pop of color to any look.
SUITING
Tumblr media
Monse SS18 RTW
Suits are a no-brainer. Grab a matching set and you’re good to go! Suit shorts were a trend for Fashion Week, but some tights layered underneath or the standard pant will work for fall.
HAUTE DENIM
Tumblr media
Tom Ford SS18 RTW
Denim was bejeweled, tailored, and modernized for a more polished look. But don’t worry! It’s still denim and remains just as easy to style as your go-to skinny jeans.
MIXED PRINTS
Tumblr media
Emporio Armani SS18 RTW
Mixing prints can be intimidating, but it’s all about having fun. A good rule to follow is keep to a particular color family. After that, throw on some confidence and own it!
RED-on-RED
Tumblr media
Calvin Klein SS18 RTW
If mixing prints takes too much brain power, put away your color wheel and try a head-to-toe red look. “The key is to mix soft, billowing fabrics with structured details,” states Alexis Bennett from InStyle. “And remember less is more when it comes to accessories.”
Keep these notes handy because they can be used for this fall and for the spring/summer of 2018. Happy styling!

How does a style enthusiast keep up with season trends?
Lately, I’ve had to ask myself, “When was the last time I bought a pair of shoes?” or “What was my most recent beauty purchase?” because my methods for keeping up with trends have changed for the best over the last few years.
I used to be a very active shopper; buying a new dress for every event or special occasion. Or ordering a new top because I simply couldn’t resist. But we all know it doesn’t stop there. First, it’s a top. Then, it’s new jewelry to complement its silhouette. Then, it’s the shoes to match. When does it end? And let’s be honest, the revolving door of trends can be difficult to keep up with especially since, according to HuffPost, the fashion industry exposes us to 52 micro-seasons a year instead of the perceived four.
As my responsibilities started to pile up and my wardrobe began to outgrow my storage arrangement, I realized that I needed to be more strategic when it came to my closet. And then it dawned on me; I’m probably not alone. So I thought I would create this blog to share my shopping tactics, sources of inspiration, style tips, and other things I’ve accumulated along the way.
For instance, it’s the start of Fall; the season of change and new trends. And one of the first things I ask myself before I commit to making a purchase is “Can I pair this with something I already own?” So this is where having go-to staples makes a difference. Take a peek into my Staple Series; a few examples of fashion bloggers wearing the “white tee” staple while staying on-trend:
Tumblr media
Aimee Song @songofstyle
Tumblr media
Danielle Bernstein @weworewhat
Tumblr media
Kyrzayda Rodriguez @kyrzayda_
I think we can all agree that a simple white t-shirt is effortless and easy to pair with almost anything you decide to add to your wardrobe. With this tip, you can rationalize a purchase without overindulging.
Be sure to check back soon for more excerpts in my Staples Series, style inspo, shopping strategies, and more.
Until next time…
